This is about difficult as 2020 was the year when I watched the least wrestling in years, probably since I started watching wrestling in 2009 I just didn't care about anything even the promotions I actually like and would normally watch (AJPW, NOAH, BJW). I think I watched 3 matches from June to the end of the year. Those being the cc final, Kenoh Vs kiyomiya and shiozaki Vs nakajima from the same show. All three of which got a lot of praise both of which I thought were *shrug*. That is the same way I have thought about all wrestling apart from one match since march. That match being shiozaki Vs fujita from march, if you have watched that match you know if you don't know anything about it it really helps going in blind.

That was a very long and roundabout way of saying Moty: fujita Vs shiozaki for actually entertaining me despite the lack of crowd. They did something with it that would be impossible to do with a crowd.

There were some I remember with crowds, kiyomiya Vs shiozaki January and suwama Vs kento march I both remember being great but they feel like from a different world.

As for wrestler and promotion, I guess NOAH and go shiozaki pretty much by default.

Haven't watched anything this year yet, I honestly don't know if I will for a good while yet. I still read about wrestling but in terms of watching anything there is no drive for me to care to. Is anyone else in the same boat as me where they haven't watch much at all?

Dragon Gate -- no MOTYCs in my eyes, but good and sometimes great wrestling on every meaningful show, along with the best booking in the world this year make this an easy pick.  First time in a decade I won't vote NJPW, but Dragon Gate did a fantastic job setting the table for the next 5-10 years of the company between the rookies and their booking along with reintroducing Shun Skywalker at the top of the card.

The Bayley & Sasha Banks team/split/feud.  They weren't just the only entertaining part of WWE TV for much of the year, they were actually great in all facets from promos to angles to matches on TV and PPV.  A shame it was rushed into a split this fall but that doesn't knock what they did all year.

If we're talking "Most Outstanding" the top of my list would include Go Shiozaki, Kazuchika Okada, Kota Ibushi, Shingo Takagi and Minoru Suzki in some order.

What was the best weekly TV Show?

SmackDown. It had some odd moments, but it produced some quality matches and angles such as the Intercontinental title tournament, the Roman Reigns heel turn and the Sasha Banks and Bayley run and feud.

Who was the wrestler of the year?

Daniel Bryan. He was incredible in the first half of the year with great matches against Sami Zayn, Drew Gulak, AJ Styles and he was also involved in several good multiman matches. He returned later on in the year and he was involved in the really good series of matches against Jey Uso and also in many multiman matches.

I asked the questions might as well answer-

Match of the Year-

Walter vs Dragunov

Strong Contenders-

Ibushi vs Okada at the Dome

Villano III Jr vs Aereo for the Masks

Young Bucks vs Omega/Page

Promotion of the Year-

New Japan with AEW being the runner up. New Japan consistently gets on base. For me, AEW either hits it out of the park or strikes out swinging for the fences, they are the Bryce Harper of wrestling.

Best Promo/angle-

Everything building to Kingston vs Moxley.

Best Weekly TV Show-

NXT UK with Dynamite a close runner up. NXT UK was just more consistent in ring.

Wrestler of the Year-

Daniel Bryan- so fucking good, he continues to shine every week in the face of bad booking and bad promotion.

Strong Contenders-

Walter

Villano III Jr - not a lot of his stuff made tape, but the little that did consisted of 4 1/2 star plus matches and rudo gaga that nearly caused a riot.

Go Shiozaki-  his title reign if full of little seen gems

Kenny Omega- multiple 4 1/2 star matches and a great heel turn

Show of the Year-

Wrestle Kingdom Night 1, AEW Revolution a close second.

Is that Villano III Jr. match the one that lasts 45+ minutes? I watched it on +Lucha when it dropped and oof, that was brutal to sit through. I mean, I get why folks loved it as they did a lot of crazy big spots and such, but it was and felt long.

That's the one.  I was intimidated by the runtime when I saw it and barely felt like half that much by the end.
