Even Brock sold the fear of Taker at Mania. Shane-O did not. Also recall that he basically beat himself by diving off the cell. After he pitched winning the match but got shot down by Taker. The only thing Shane has going for him is Vince being smarter than Nick Gulas.
sek69
The way the Rumble is usually booked is you're told when you are entering and who you're supposed to eliminated. From what it sounds like, the reason this year's was so bad is everyone had their entry spots moved around so much they weren't sure wtf they were supposed to be doing. Hopefully now everyone sees he is the worst McMahon by some distance Wonder how much of that was through the lenses of legit hate of all things Levesque, and the idea that backing Shane, The Prodigal Son if you will, was hoping for an IRL version of Shane’s return promo, where he promised to wrest control of the company’s future from Vince’s “idiot daughter and doofus son-in-law,” as CM Punk once put it (and speaking of a legit Trips hater there). Shane's return came when WWE was still in full out fight-the-fans mode, and Shane for better or worse at least promised something different. Plus it was also a surprise no one saw coming and that's always going to get a pop.

Shane returning on Raw has to be up there, and it was up there as much for him and who he was as for the fact it was just an absolute surprise that no one expected. Not one of those debuts where a bunch of the crowd have signs for the person because they at least expect the possibility of it. Nice to see I have been bitching about the same shit here for at least 6 years now: Also: Time is truly a flat circle hahaha, this might as well have been said this week. I had also forgotten that Shane came back the day Hunter totally sandbagged Roman and made him look like shit, right when Roman was at his hottest and most popular as a babyface. Everything ties back together lol

He definitely was considered the good McMahon, and I have never really understood why, because as I have said before, his 2000 push was as obnoxious as you can imagine. It has to be partly cuz the wrestlers hated Hunter and thus Shane was by default the good one, as you said. Funny how both of them seem to have lost significant power in 2022. Strummer
Maybe it's because I've just completely tapped out on the product but I don't know if there is a "good" McMahon now. I mean my judgment is clouded but I can't stand really any of them anymore
Ricky Jackson
Other than the feud with Austin (and even that went on way past the point of being entertaining TV), once "McMahon" became more than just the name of one of the announcers, and the family was constantly on TV in greater to lesser degrees (and expanded to include HHH), it has been an ongoing struggle for "quality" to emerge from a WWE that mostly caters to the whims of the boss. And this has gotten really bad in the last 4-5 years imo, to the point of WWE being completely devoid of anything redeeming (sorry bubba, even the Big Dog doesn't do it for me)
KawadaSmile
Acknowledge the Big Dog NOW! Nah, it's all good. Right now the best booked show in WWE is NXT 2.0 lol

Flyin' Brian
The rumor mill says that the Shane rumors are supposedly to stop him from going to AEW. Which can't possibly be real, can it? They are saying that Shane helped book the Royal Rumble the last two years with no problems and his reputation is to be pretty easy going. It's possible he saw the fall of Triple H as a chance to claim a higher position in the company and was mad when things didn't turn out that way, or possibly as someone said if the company is to be sold soon this might be his last chance to have a run as an active performer and he wanted to take that. Who knows, but the behind the scenes stuff for the most part is more interesting than most of the stuff they are putting on tv.

Any recommendations, bubba? Is Dragunov's reign going well so far? I watched both of his more recent matches and he looked like the biggest wrestler in the planet, but like you mentioned, NXT UK gets nearly zero press, so I have no idea how things are going. Reel
Dragunov's reign has been so-so. Just had an empty arena match with Jordan Devlin, which was very weird because fans only came back like a month ago, but they did a good job of explaining why the match was happening. Meiko Satomura and Blair Davenport had a good match on 1/13 and a rematch today that ended in what seemed like a shoot injury. Walter had his farewell match against Nathan Frazer, who was 'can't-miss no-brainer superstar Ben Carter' until he signed with WWE. Good stuff. Noam Dar is my guy, though. Not the best wrestler on the show, but the best character and still a very good wrestler. He had a British Rounds match with Wolfgang last year that was really good. Like MOTYC stuff. sek69
The idea that Shane saw his chance to get back in power makes sense on paper, but it really goes against everything we've ever heard about him. The rap on him was Vince liked Stephanie better (in terms of who he wanted to run things after him) because she had that same Vince killer instinct that Shane didn't. He was always pitching wacky ideas back when he was still thought of as the Heir Apparent like getting rid of the ring, and it always seemed like he was just never seen as someone cut out to run a place like WWE.
