Mid-South Wrestling Revolution

Ladd gives Duggan & Super Destroyer a chance to end their feud in New Orleans, either Super D loses his mask or Duggan leaves Louisiana.

Dibiase tries to pull a fast one but Ladd was a step ahead.

Either Williams or Vader will be the referee for the big title match. But Woman isn't worried either way. No comment on Chicago though.

Eddie's looking a little jealous after Rick retains.

Roberts & Ellering knock it out of the park again.

And it wouldn't be an episode of Mid-South if it didn't end in a pier-six brawl. And nobody spices up a Brawl like Stan Hansen!

A stacked card for New Orleans.

The matches at the Lakefront Arena are must see. Top notch card that has been well built towards.

Before all the knowledge of Jake Roberts "habits", I was a huge fan. While he wasn't big and muscular or even very well built, he could strike with that DDT out of nowhere and end a match just like that. He didn't need the snake in a bag as a prop as he was the deadly serpent that could strike at any time. He was the deadly predator. You have captured that well here.

The funny thing about DiBiase's shenanigans, he was such a good wrestler that he didn't even need to do any of that but I guess as the heel, he really needs to do something heelish and that fits the bill rather than just being the overly cocky/confident being.

Stan Hansen showing up before the a big show is a treat. Will he make an appearance and/or play an important part in it?

Mid South is on fire!

I love how you have two money making headline feuds going on. Luger vs. Reed, and Dibiase vs. Jake have been built to perfection. I also like the supporting cast involved. Williams and Vader going at it to determine who the Ref will be adds a lot of intrigue. Not to mention, what's going on between Reed and Woman, hmmmmm. Then you have big players involved in the Jake/Dibiase feud. JYD, Murdoch, Rotunda, Barbarians and now STAN HANSEN! The Lakefront Arena is in for a wild night.

Add to that, the Hot Stuff Inc. storyline. Everybody is wondering where Rick Steiner stands. And to top it off he's got to meet his brother in a tag match. What a story.

And, oh yea, we have Super D and Duggan. Everything is on the line in their huge upcoming match. These guys are going to brawl! This has been a gem.

LOL, the pictures of Dibiase and Adnan would have been the highlight for me this week, until Stan Hansen showed up and stole the show.

So much going on and I'm loving every minute of it.

LAKEFRONT ARENA

APRIL 1

The Grappler defeats Rocky Duke in his Mid-South debut with the Big Running Knee Lift.

JYD defeats Wahoo McDaniel in a violent brawl with the Big Thump Powerslam.  This turns out to be Wahoo’s last match in Mid-South.

Mask vs Contract Match

Hacksaw Jim Duggan defeats The Super Destroyer as he blocked a Superplex and shoved Super D off the top rope and then caught him with a diving shoulder block from the top rope.  The problem came when the ref ordered Super D to take off his mask but Super D caught him with a big headbutt.  When Hacksaw tried to get involved Super D caught him with a lowblow and he simply walked away with his mask still on.

New Orleans Street Fight

The Barbarians with Sheik Adnan Al Kassie vs “Captain Redneck” Dick Murdoch & Stan Hansen ended in a No Contest as Murdoch and Hansen attacked before the bell ever rang.  While there are no real rules in a street fight, the ref said the match was not official as it never started.  This didn’t seem to matter to anyone as the 4 men brawled and brawled until they were all a bloody mess.

Winner is the Special Guest Referee for tonight's Mid-South Title Match

Dr. Death defeats Vader with Woman in a power-move filled bout that saw each man do some serious damage to the other.  In this war of attrition, Woman accidently hit Vader which distracted him enough to allow Dr. Death to catch Vader with the Oklahoma Stampede.  Dr. Death will now go to the locker room to get his stripped shirt to ref the Mid-South Title Match between Lex Luger and Hacksaw Butch Reed.

Mid-South Tag Team Title Match

Scott Steiner & Hercules Hernandez © defeats Eddie Gilbert & Rick Steiner with Missy Hyatt after Steiner caught Eddie Gilbert with a face first slam from a Full Nelson slam.  A few interesting notes here include that the Steiner brothers did not hold back at all against each other as they both rattled each other pretty good.  Also, after the match, it appeared that Missy Hyatt was not pleased at Rick Steiner for the outcome of the bout.

LOUISIANA TITLE MATCH

Ted Dibiase with Sheik Adnan Al Kassie defeats Jake “The Snake” Roberts with a simple cover in a strange match that saw Jake attacked from behind by some huge savage-looking beast on his way to the ring.  The beast manhandled Jake and tossed him all around the outside of the ring and left him in a heap.  When Dibiase walked to the ring, the beastleft.  Dibiase simply rolled Snake into the ring and demanded that the ref call for the bell.  Dibiase then simple put his foot on Snake’s chest for the three count.  Dibiase received a chorus of boos and dodged debris the entire walk back to the locker room.

Mid-South Title Match with Dr. Death as Special Guest Referee

Hacksaw Butch Reed defeats Lex Luger © with Woman by DQ as Hacksaw Butch Reed was attacked by a huge black man who came out of the first row of seats.  Later he was identified as The Snowman, a tremendous wrestler most known for his time in the AWA.  Reed was in control of about 75% of the match as Dr. Death refused to allow Woman or Luger to get away with any of their questionable tactics.  The end saw Luger getting reprimanded for an open hand when this huge black man attacked Reed with a shattering head shot with a steel chair.  Dr. Death turned around to see Reed out and Snowman daring anyone to come after him.  Dr. Death called for the bell awarding Reed the match but Luger was happy that he left with his Mid-South title.  Dr. Death goes to Reed to protect him and make sure the Snowman doesn’t inflict anymore damage to his buddy.

Another huge card at Lakefront Arena is concluded and it leaves us with more questions than answers.  Tune in next Saturday night on Superstation 17 as Gordon Solie and Ernie Ladd try to get to the bottom of all the chaos.

The Grappler arrives with a win. He's a guy I can see thriving in Mid-South.

JYD sends Wahoo out the hard way.

Super D loses the match but doesn't keep his end of the stipulation.

You know things get crazy when a street fight ends in a no contest.

I'm kinda cracking up picturing Dr Death in a refs shirt.

The Steiner Bros finally collide. The champs retain leaving Rick in the dog house.

Who or what attacked Roberts?

The Snowman with a dramatic debut as he costs Reed the Mid-South title.

Big win for JYD over Wahoo. It has to be a big card when this is the second match and you did not disappoint with some really good stuff here.

Was wondering how you were going to handle the Duggan/Super Destroyer. Head butting a referee has to have some repercussions to it on top of getting the mask. In any case, this is far from over which imo is a good thing.

I could imagine that Street Fight being a bloody stiff affair.

Can't believe that Vader is all that happy with Woman right about now.

I am sure a lot of people were pissed at Dibiase winning in that fashion. Looking forward to this "new player" introduced. Jake is sure not to let this go.

Always great to see The Grappler.

After a classic Mid South type feud, JYD puts an end to Wahoo. You did a good job with heel Wahoo. Gave him something big to do at the tail end of his career.

Super D loses the match and still leaves with his mask. I wonder how Ladd will handle this one?

Even though the match was never official, the fans still got their money's worth on the street fight.

Dr. Death takes advantage of Woman's mistake and beats Vader. We have our Ref.

Not sure why Missy was mad at Rick. Looks like he held his own and Eddie took the fall. Can't wait for their next TV interview.

I can't believe it, Dibiase does it again! I wonder who attacked Jake? Once again, Dibiase's money is well spent.

Being put in the main event angle is one heck of a way to debut. Big things are in store for Snowman. Looks like Reed will have his hands full with Snowman, so maybe Williams gets his chance at Luger.

Great job extending the storylines.

Every single match has something to make it special.... very Mid Southian of you... and its a fun way to present things. Butch Reed vs Luger is a fun concept. Luger with Woman is still something I am excited about and how well that could have worked. Dibiase is continuing to be paramount when it comes to heel work and he's setting the stage higher and higher. I want to know if Dr. Death had sleeves on his Ref shirt?

Mid-South Wrestling 1988:  Episode #14:  April 8, 1988

Gordon Solie:  Thank you so very, very much indeed for turning into another episode of Mid-South Wrestling.  I’m Gordon Solie and it is my pleasure to be coming to you today from the Memorial Coliseum in Shreveport, Louisiana.  Before we get to today’s show, we need to update you on a few major happenings from our last supercard at Lakefront Arena.  First, Hacksaw Jim Duggan pulled out a huge victory against Super Destroyer in the mask vs contract match.  The problem was that Super Destroyer refused to take off his mask, assaulted both the referee and Duggan before hightailing it out of the arena.  Duggan did his best to pursue Super Destroyer.  Last thing anyone in Mid-South saw was Duggan in a high speed care chase with Super Destroyer, both heading east on Interstate 10.  As of now, nobody has heard from either of the two and we are unsure if they will be back in Mid-South Wrestling.  Fans, that was just one of the wild situations we had last Monday at the Lakefront Arena and you will be hearing much more of what happened there throughout the hour tonight.  As for tonight, we have a great card in-store for you.  Jake “The Snake” Roberts will be taking on Killer Brooks.  The Barbarians will be in action against Irish McGhee and The Italian Stallion.  Hacksaw Butch Reed will be taking on the Masked Mauler.  Stan Hansen and Dick Murdoch will be taking on the Assassins and in our main event, it will be Rick Steiner taking on Junkyard Dog with his Mid-South TV Title on the line.  Let’s get to the ring for our first match.

MATCH #1

Jake “The Snake” Roberts with Paul Ellering defeats Killer Brooks with a DDT

After the bout, Roberts and Ellering are with Gordon Solie.

Gordon Solie:  Jake, another nice win tonight but I think we need to go back to Monday night when you were attacked by some savage beast before your Louisiana Heavyweight title match against Ted Dibiase.  Do you have any idea who that was?

Jake Roberts:  Gordon, every question has a multitude of answers.  It is all up to how that question is interpreted.  If you are asking what was the name of that monster that attacked me… then the answer is no.  If you are asking me who that man was… the simple answer is that he was the latest henchmen from Ted Dibiase who got paid a hefty sum of cash to prevent me from defeating Dibiase and taking the Louisiana Heavyweight Title.

Gordon Solie:  Jake, while that very well may be the case, do you have any proof to your accusation.

Paul Ellering:  Are the Barbarians not proof enough.  Is scandalous Sheik Adnan Al Kassie not proof enough.  Is the notorious black glove not proof enough.  Ted Dibiase is nothing if he is not criminally sneaky.  The only problem for Mr. Dibiase is that he is the hunted.  We are the hunters.  In order for the Snake to survive he must eat.  We will continue to hunt you until you are no more.  If we must first destroy the beast you have put in front of us, all it will do is delay your demise but in the end the story has been written and you will soon fall prey to the Snake.

Gordon Solie:  Fair enough.  Let’s head to break.

COMMERCIAL BREAK -PROMO FOR RIVERSIDE CENTROPLEX IN BATON ROUGE

When we come out of break, Woman, Lex Luger, and Vader are at the podium.

Gordon Solie: Fans, again, I must go back to Monday night at Lakefront Arena.  This time the chaos involved the Mid-South Title match between Lex Luger and Hacksaw Butch Reed.  Let’s take a look at what happened.

VTR:  The video shows Woman arguing with special guest referee “Dr. Death” Steve Williams when suddenly a very well-built black man jumps in the ring and attacks Hacksaw Butch Reed with a steel chair.  When Dr. Death sees this, he quickly calls for the bell.

Gordon Solie:  Well Fans, we do know that the man who attacked Butch Reed was the Snowman, a professional wrestler most known for his time in the AWA.  Lex, what do you too have to say about what we just saw?

Woman:  Gordon, baaaby, there is nothing left to say.  Hacksaw Butch Reed obviously knew the only way he could defeat Lex Luger was by disqualification, so he hired one of his old buddies from the hood to attack the Perfect Package.

Gordon Solie:  Uh huh…

Lex Luger:  Gordon, look at me.  I am the perfect athlete.  I have been born and breed to be a champion.  Hacksaw Butch Reed was good in his day but his day has come and gone.  Whoever that guy was that attacked him at Lakefront Arena did him a favor.  All that was going to happen if there was not outside interference was that Reed was going to suffer.  Suffer a defeat that he may never have been able to recover from.

Ernie Ladd comes out…

Lex Luger:  Oh, here we go again… What’s next Ladd.

Ernie Ladd:  Lex, I’m glad you asked.  While the event at Lakefront Arena was another huge success, it did leave a lot of questions.  First, and most important, is the integrity of our Mid-South Title.  While you may have no idea who that man was that attacked Hacksaw Reed, I do know that the title match was comprised.  As a result of that, I am ordering a rematch between Lex Luger and Hacksaw Butch Reed for Saturday, May 6th back at the Lakefront Arena.  Also, Mr. Dibiase, I know you are listening and if I find out that you had anything to do with the attack on Jake “The Snake” Roberts” by that savage beast, then you will be immediately stripped of your title and suspended from Mid-South Wrestling.

Gordon Sole:  Thank you Mr. Ladd, it seems like May 6th is already shaping up to be a huge event.  Also, I would be willing to bet that Dibiase was behind the attack on Jake Roberts.  Now we just need to find the proof.  Let’s go to the ring.

MATCH #2

The Barbarians with Sheik Adnan Al Kassie defeat Irish McGhee & Italian Stallion with a top rope shoulder block by Konga

After the match, Ted Dibiase joins Sheik Adnan Al Kassie and the Barbarians at the podium.

Gordon Solie:  Mr. Dibiase, it seems that a lot of people have some suspicion…

Ted Dibiase:  Gordon… I’ve respected you for a long time, but I’m giving you this warning out of courtesy.  Don’t ever get in my business again.  I heard you out here saying you’d bet I was behind the attack on Roberts…. Again… Don’t get in my business.  My reputation is on the line.  My title is on the line…. And more importantly… your health is on the line.

The Barbarians seem to close in on Solie and start jostling him a bit as they basically push him back and forth between themselves.  Gordon seems severely frightened and stutters us to a commercial break.

Match #3

Hacksaw Butch Reed defeats The Masked Mauler with the Military Press Slam

After the bout, Reed joins Gordon.

Gordon Solie:  Hacksaw, I must ask you about that attack from the Snowman last Monday night at the Lakefront Arena.  I mean the last anybody had heard from him, he was a member of the Brusie Brothers tag team up north in the AWA.

Butch Reed:  I got no idea what that guy’s problem is, but he cost me the Mid-South Championship and he’s going to pay.

Suddenly, Snowman comes out…

Solie:  Gentlemen… this isn’t the time nor the place.  Let’s keep our composure.

Snowman:  Composure… Composure?  I’ve been watching Mid-South Wrestling for a while now and been trying to get a job here and that Uncle Tom president of yours, Ernie Ladd has refused to give me a job and then I got to watch Butch Reed show up just a few months ago and now this Uncle Tom get’s a Mid-South Title shot.  I guess it’s not how good you are but how high you jump when the master says so.

Ernie Ladd comes rushing out…

Ernie Ladd:  Now Snowman… I’ve heard about enough from you.  Calling myself and Hacksaw Butch Reed Uncle Tom’s is just uncalled for.  Now this is the second time in a week you have shown up at a Mid-South Wrestling event and just walked out like you own the place.  I could have you arrested for trespassing but instead I’ve given you more than enough space.  Now, you know as well as I do, that I have agreed to give you matches here in Mid-South but that you would have to work your way up from the bottom.

Snowman:  Come on man… I know you work for Master Turner over there at the Superstation but you can’t be serious.  Like I said, I aint starting at the bottom and if Uncle Tom Reed got himself a title match, then I deserve one also.

Ernie Ladd has seen enough and calls in security to escort him out.  As security struggles with Snowman, Snowman is heard promising to be at Lakefront Arena on May 6th and there is nothing any Uncle Tom can do about.  Hacksaw Reed seems a bit unnerved by all this and he appears to be concerned that his next title shot will also be compromised.

COMMERCIAL BREAK -PROMO FOR RIVERSIDE CENTROPLEX IN BATON ROUGE

When we come out of break, Dick Murdoch and Stan Hansen are at the podium

Gordon Solie:  Gentlemen, I must admit that was some brawl between you at the Barbarians last Saturday night.

Dick Murdoch:  Let me tell you something, a while back, me and another guy from West Texas used to run from town to town brawling every night against anybody who dared get in the ring.  That guy was the American Dream Dusty Rhodes and we were the Texas Outlaws.  Now this guy standing next to me is every bit as tough as Dusty was.  Every bit as mean as I was and every bit a West Texas as the both of us.   Barbarians… if you every want to try it again, The New Texas Outlaws are willing and ready!

Stan Hansen (screaming and stomping his way around the promo in such a way that he makes Murdoch look calm) I don’t care if it’s the Barbarians… I don’t care if its Eddie Gilbert …. Heck I don’t care if its Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan…Dick Murdoch called me up about two weeks ago and said things down here in Louisiana have gotten pretty rough and we need to clean this up …Texas Style.  When I heard that, I got my trusty cow bell and came running.  Nothing makes a Texas Outlaw happier than a good ol’ brawl.

Gordon Solie:  Fair enough gentlemen.  I think they are waiting for you in the ring.

Match #4

The Texas Outlaws (Dick Murdoch & Stan Hansen) destroy The Storm Troopers as Hansen hit the Lariat on  #1

COMMERCIAL BREAK -PROMO FOR RIVERSIDE CENTROPLEX IN BATON ROUGE

 Match #5

Main Event :  Mid-South Title Match

Rick Steiner © with Missy Hyatt vs Junkyard Dog

This match ends up going the distance as we get a 10-minute draw but that is not what will be remembered from this bout.  After the ref called for the bell, both Steiner and JYD laid on the mat exhausted.  Missy Hyatt comes into the ring, basically laughing at JYD and then goes to help up her man Rick Steiner.  Steiner is not very pleased at how Missy treated JYD and lets her know.  Missy seems to understand and backs away for a second.  Steiner goes to help JYD to his feet….

WHAM… Missy sprays Steiner in the eyes with the hair spray.  He is writhing in pain…

Gordon Solie:  Fans… look at this… Here comes Eddie Gilbert.  He is stomping away on both JYD and Rick Steiner.  There goes Missy Hyatt with the hairspray.  This time she gets JYD right between the eyes.  Gilbert has Steiner up…. Hot Shot.  Steiner is in trouble.  Gilbert is up on the top rope…. Flying Elbow to the neck on Steiner.  Here comes the calvary.  Yes…. It’s Scott Steiner and Hercules Hernandez.

Eddie Gilbert and Missy Hyatt run out of the ring and head to the locker room before the tag champs can catch them.  The biggest ovation of the night followed as Scott Steiner helps his brother up.  The two embrace and then the Steiner brothers, JYD and Hercules embrace and it seems like the good guys have added another member as Rick seems on the outs with Hot Stuff Inc.

Gordon Solie:   So long from the Pelican State.

Roberts & Ellering are (understandably) convinced that Dibiase hired the Beast that attacked Roberts. Dibiase says he didn't but Ladd says if he lying, he loses his title!

Meanwhile Snowman seems to let Woman off the hook by saying he just wants a job. Ladd getting called a Uncle Tom shouldn't have been that funny.

The Texas Outlaws are back & meaner than ever with Stan Hansen.

After weeks of buildup, Rick finally gets the boot from Hot Stuff Inc. Thankfully his brother is there to help him up.

I have to say, if Duggan and Super D are no longer in Mid South, that was one of the most creative ways to write them out. Great stuff!

Jake and Paul have menacing words for Dibiase. Whoever attacked Jake made a big mistake.

LOL, loved Woman's and Luger's side of things of what went down with Reed. The good news is we get a rematch.

Dibiase takes it out on Gordon and to top it off, the Barbarians give him a scare. Poor Gordon.

Snowman gets major heat right off the bat. I mean it's his first time on Mid South TV and he's going at it with Redd, Ladd and Security. What a great story!

Hansen and Murdoch are some rugged old school tough guys. Can't wait for more brawls with the Barbarians.

One of the best endings ever as the Steiners embrace! You did a great job slow burning this moment. It was well worth it.

Every story has main event heat!

I could never take Tim Brooks seriously because of that huge belly. He looked as if he could be pushed over and be unable to get back to his feet.

Snowman is nothing more than a minor distraction for Butch Reed. Once Reed is done with him, Lex is next.

Murdoch and Hansen are a perfect match for each other and that is not necessarily a good thing for the Barbarians or anyone else in the tag division.

As much as I like Eddie Gilbert and 88 Missy, I am thinking he bit off more than he can chew with stabbing Steiner in the back. Throw JYD into the mix and it does not look good for Eddie.

Mid-South Wrestling 1988:  Episode #15:  April 15, 1988

Gordon Solie:  Thank you so very, very much indeed for turning into another episode of Mid-South Wrestling.  I’m Gordon Solie and it is my pleasure to be coming to you today from the Riverside Centroplex in Baton Rouge.  Before we get to tonight’s action, I want to bring you back to last week where we saw Missy Hyatt and Eddie Gilbert attack Hot Stuff Inc. member Rick Steiner.

VTR:

After Steiner’s draw and successful TV title defense against JYD, Missy Hyatt, after showing up JYD, Steiner seemed upset at Hyatt and her treatment of the Dog.  Missy proceeded to spray perfume in both the eyes of Steiner and JYD and Eddie Gilbert rushed out and attacked his tag team partner, Rick Steiner.  After nailing him with a couple of Hot Shots, Gilbert and Hyatt rushed to safety as Scott Steiner and Hercules Hernandez rushed out to help Rick and JYD.

Gordon Solie:  BRO-ther, that was some incident last week.  We will be hearing from both Eddie Gilbert and Rick Steiner in today’s show to see if the two have found a way to make amends.  Also on today’s show, we will see Ted Dibiase taking on Cougar Jay.  Manny Fernandez will be making his return to Mid-South Wrestling and will be taking on Killer Brooks.  The Mid-South Tag Team Champions, Hercules Hernandez & Scott Steiner will square off against The Assassins.  Dr. Death squares off against The Red Shadow and in the Main Event, it will be Rick Steiner putting his Mid-South Television Title on the line against the big bull Vader!  It looks like we are ready for our first bout.  Let’s get to the ring.

MATCH #1:

Louisiana Title Match

Ted Dibiase with Sheik Adnan Al Kassie defeats Cougar Jay by submission with the Figure Four

As Dibiase and The Sheik head to the podium, they are joined by Mid-South President Ernie Ladd.

Ernie Ladd:  Perfect timing.  Just the duo I want to see.  Sheik Adnan, do you want to here the good news or the bad news first.

Sheik Adnan:  Here we go again Ladd.  We don’t have time for your games.  You pick.

Ernie Ladd:  Okay, let’s do the good news for you.  Your tag team, the Barbarians has been named the #1 contenders for the Mid-South tag team titles and they will face Scott Steiner and Hercules Hernandez at the next big card at the Lakefront Arena on May 6th.

Sheik Adnan:  Finally, Mr. Ladd, you and your cronies have seen the forest through the trees.  The Barbarians are an unstoppable force and soon they will be champions.

Ernie Ladd:  And now for your bad news and my fun news.  Last week, I said that if there was any evidence that the beast who attacked Jake Roberts two weeks ago in Lakefront Arena had any previous relationship with you or any member of the Million Dollar Corporation, that you would be stripped of the Louisiana Title.

Ted Dibiase:  What are you getting at Ladd?

Ernie Ladd:  After your last scheme Dibiase, we had cameras put into the locker room and this is what we saw after your last match against Jake Roberts.

VTR:

We see Ted Dibiase shaking hands with the savage beast who had attacked Jake Roberts prior to the Louisiana Title Match.  Next, Dibiase hands the Wildman a large paper bag full of money.

Ernie Ladd:  Not sure words can get you out of this one Dibiase but go ahead and try.  I think we have you caught red handed.

Ted Dibiase:  First of all Ladd… cameras in the locker room.  A new low, even for you.  Also, an invasion of privacy I believe.  My lawyer, Rufus Buckley, will be hearing about this.  Now as for the money you think I illegally paid of Alofa with.

Gordon Solie:  Alofa?

Ted Dibiase:  Yes Mr. Puppet.  Alofa.  After what I saw Alofa do to Jake Roberts, I realized that he was exactly the type of man I needed in the Million Dollar Corporation.  I mean Jake Roberts has repeatedly used an illegal move, the DDT, on me … on the concrete no less.  So to protect me against that lunatic, Jake Roberts, I hired Alofa as my new personal security guard.

Ernie Ladd:  Come on Dibiase.  You expect me to believe this nonsense.  So, if he is your new personal security guard, where is he now.

Ted Dibiase:  A little slow Mr. Ladd.  Try and pay attention.  I told you, he is to protect me from Jake Roberts.  I also was told that neither Mr. Roberts and Mr. Ellering are in the building tonight.  Correct.

Ernie Ladd:  Correct.

Ted Dibiase:  So why then would Alofa be here.

Ernie Ladd:  You are on thin ice Dibiase.  Thin Ice.  Next week, it will be you and Jake Roberts right here on TV with your title on the line.  And if The Shiek, the Barbarians, Mike Rotundo, or “Alofa” interfere in the slightest, say good bye to your title.

Ted Dibiase:  How about we just say goodbye to you.

COMMERCIAL BREAK -PROMO FOR RAPIDES PARISH COLISEUM IN ALEXANDRIA, LOUISIANA

When we come out of break, Eddie Gilbert and Missy Hyatt are with Gordon Solie.

Gordon Solie:  Eddie, I’ve got to ask… What happened last week between you and Rick Steiner.

Eddie Gilbert:  I’ll tell ya what happened.  Missy and myself stopped carrying that ingrate Rick Steiner.  I mean everything we did for him.  We trained him.  We nurtured him.  We became his family and then he has the nerve to not do the simple things.  We asked him to put the Mid-South tag team titles ahead of himself.  I mean I put my career… the career of the Hot Stuff Eddie Gilbert, on hold to help this snot-nose kid… but no… all he cared about was himself.  Well after he gave half an effort in our title match against Hercules Hernandez and Scott Steiner… Missy and I had seen enough.

Missy Hyatt:  Then, last week, he goes and puts Junkyard Dog ahead of me.  You all saw it… on national TV, he tells me what to do.  Who does he think he is.  After all we did for him… He got exactly what he deserved.  And let me tell you… this is just the beginning.

Eddie Gilbert:  Or maybe Missy.. this is the beginning of the end… for Rick Steiner!

Gordon Solie:  Fair enough.  Let’s get back to the action.

MATCH #2

“The Ragging Bull” Manny Fernendez defeats Killer Brooks with Flying Bodypress

Post-match interview with Manny Fernadez

Gordon Solie:  Congratulations Manny on your first win here in Mid-South Wrestling.  What brings you to the area.

Manny Fernandez:  Gordon, What brings me to Mid-South Wrestling is simple.  Every time I turned on the Superstation I saw this is where the big boys play.  I mean every match here is like a back-alley brawl and that’s just the way the Raggin Bull likes it.  I grew up fighting in the streets of El Paso, Texas and now can’t wait to do some fighting in the ring all across Louisiana.

Gordon Solie:  Fair enough Manny.  We look forward to seeing more of you in the ring.

COMMERCIAL BREAK -PROMO FOR RAPIDES PARISH COLISEUM IN ALEXANDRIA, LOUISIANA

Prior to our next match, Hacksaw Butch Reed is at the podium.

Gordon Solie:  Hacksaw, your recent run-ins with the Snowman has taken everyone here by surprise.  I mean I for one had no idea why he attacked you in your title match with Lex Luger.

Hacksaw Reed:  Gordon, to tell you the truth, I might not know Snowman if I bumped into him on the street.  We have never wrestled each other.  We have never been tag team partners.  I don’t even think we were ever in the same territory at the same time.  We he singled me out… We he called both Ernie Ladd and myself Uncle Tom’s… I got no Idea.  The only thing I can think of is jealousy.  He wishes he was the first black man to hold the NWA title.  He wishes he was the first black man to hold the UWF title.  And if he interferes in my next Mid-South Title Match at Lakefront Arena, he is going to wish he never stepped foot in Louisiana.

Gordon Solie:  Very strong words from Hacksaw Butch Reed.  We will just have to wait and see as Snowman has vowed to be at Lakefront Arena on May, 6.  Let’s get back to the ring.

MATCH #3

Mid-South Tag Team Title Match

Hercules Hernandez & Scott Steiner defeat the Assassins in a tough battle that saw Hercules Hernandez finally connect with a devastating clothesline on Assassin #1

The post-match interview began by focusing on the upcoming Mid-South Tag Team Title match in a couple of weeks where the champs will face the Barbarians.  In the middle of the segment, Rick Steiner comes out and we get a rather emotional Rick Steiner asking Scott for forgiveness.  Scott quickly reminded Rick that he was never angry with Rick and he kept telling everyone that Rick would need to see for himself what type of lowlife Eddie Gilbert was.  The two embraced and walked off with Hercules Hernandez.

COMMERCIAL BREAK -PROMO FOR LAKEFRONT ARENA

When we come out of break, Woman and Lex Luger are at the podium

Gordon Solie: Lex… many say that you got lucky in your last match against Hacksaw Butch Reed.  Many saw that Snowman saved your title.

Lex Luger:  This is all getting a bit ridiculous.  I mean how many times do I have to beat Butch Reed.  The last three times him and I got in the ring together, I came out just as I went into the match… As the champion.  Guess what… the exactly same thing is going to happen on March 6th.  Reed, it’s not only that I got your number…. I am just clearly the future of professional wrestling and you are nothing more than the past.

Woman:  Gordon, baaaby, you always want to put my man down.  You want to talk about how lucky he was.  I think you are leaving a few things out.  First of all, Vader let us down when he lost to Dr. Death allowing that overgrown guerrilla to be the referee for the title match.

Gordon Solie: Speaking if Vader where is he?

Woman:  Gordon, baaaby, I don’t ask where your wife is when you sit here week after week staring at me so I am confused at why you always want to get involved in my business.  (Gordon seems to be turning red)  But if you must know, Vader is in the back getting ready for his Television Tag match against Rick Steiner.  Now don’t try and change the subject.  Lex is the Total Package.  The best there is in professional wrestling.  Dr. Death can’t change that.  Hacksaw Reed can’t change that.  In fact, there is not a man alive that can change that.  On May 6th, we will AGAIN prove that!

MATCH #4

Dr. Death Steve Williams defeats The Red Shadow with the Oklahoma Stampede

A quick post-match promo has Dr. Death angry at Woman about calling his win against Vader luck and that he is ready for Lex Luger if Luger somehow survives his match with Hacksaw in Lakefront Arena then Dr. Death will be ready to take that Mid-South title.

COMMERCIAL BREAK -PROMO FOR LAKEFRONT ARENA

Main Event Match

Mid-South TV Title Match

Rick Steiner (without Missy Hyatt) vs Vader with Woman

For the second time in two weeks, we get a huge TV title match to end the show.  The big difference is that Rick Steiner in now a fan favorite as he has gone his separate ways from Hot Stuff Incorporated.  Though as much as things change, they stay the same as for the second week in a row, we get a 10-minute draw.  This match was full of devastating power moves and both men looked to be on the verge of victory multiple times during the match.  Again, just the same as last week, Eddie Gilbert rushes the ring and tries to take advantage of a worn out Steiner but this time Rick is ready for him and catches him with the German Suplex.  Missy Hyatt was a frantic mess after this and dragged her man to safety.  As the show ends, Steiner is getting some serious love from the crowd but Women seems upset that her man is not leaving as the new Mid-South TV champion.

Gordon Solie:   Folks, we are just three weeks away from the next big show in Lakefront Arena and things are really getting pretty wild around here.  Make sure to join us next week were the main event will be the huge Louisiana Heavyweight Title match between Ted Dibiase and Jake “The Snake” Roberts.  So long from the Pelican State.

Dark Matches included:

1.       The Texas Outlaws (Dick Murdoch & Stan Hansen) crushing two jobbers.

2.      Shaun Simpson is an exciting, high flying debut victory over Trent Knight

3.      The Mongolian Stomper in his Mid-South debut using the sleeper to knockout Verlon Biggs

Ladd seems to have Dibiase cornered but the Million Dollar Man slithers out by say he only hired Alofa AFTER he attacked Roberts. But Dibiase is walking a fine line.

Speaking of Million Dollar Inc, The Barbarians finally get their tag title shot but Hercules & Steiner are ready to fight.

Fernandez is exactly the kinda guy you'd expect to see in Mid-South.

Reed issues a stern warning to the Snowman.

Williams keeps his momentum up.

Rick survives Vader and even managed to fight off Gilbert. The TV champ is looking strong.

Have to hand it to Ted DiBiase for thinking quickly on his feet. He had an answer for Ernie Ladd that is hard to argue. As for why no Alofa today, I guess Jake and Ellering got a different memo about not being in the building today.

Nice debut for Manny Fernandez. The Raging Bull came to the right place to face a whole host of tough guys. He'll fit in very well.

Preach it Brother Reed. The Snowman is going to find he's on a one way path to his destruction.

The Assassins?!?!? Wait a second ...

Eddie Gilbert better be careful because his actions might have pissed off Vader and the last thing he wants to do is make more enemies.

The bantering between Ladd and Dibiase gets better every week. It's hard to argue Dibiase's points LOL. I will say, as a fan, Ladd is the man. Dibiase vs. Jake on free TV. YES!

Well, Hot Stuff Inc. gives their side of the story and I don't think many are buying it.

Mid South is exactly where Manny needs to be. he'll be involved in something big, I'm sure.

Reed has some serious words for Snowman. I have a feeling this might distract Reed in his quest for the title. I'm sure Luger and Woman don't mind.

Steiners are reunited and it feels so good. I like the dynamics of Scott holding the tag titles with Herc while Rick is holding the TV title. They're reunited but not yet a team. You've got a good story going on.

HAHAHA, Woman loves flirting with Gordon. I will say, she's loyal to her champ Luger.

Dr. Death is in a good place. If Snowman gets Reed out of the title picture, Dr. Death steps up.

Rick and Vader give the fans 10 hard hitting minutes. Woman isn't too keen on Vader these days. Not sure if Hot Stuff Inc wants both Steiner and Vader as enemies.

It still amazes me that you can write up two totally different territories. If I just popped on here, I would think Mid South and Memphis were written by two different people. Amazing job!

Agreed, totally crazy.

Awesome job that you can split your roster and run two totally independent entities of each other with both territories feeling very different from one another rather than feeling like a rehash of the same thing with just different people plugged in. Cudos to you.

I have to think that eventually, it will catch up to you but in the mean time, let me say that your Memphis is spot on and one of my favorite reads here. Keep up the great work.

Mid-South Wrestling 1988:  Episode #16:  April 22 & April 29, 1988

To be honest, I’ve had a bit of writer’s block with my Mid-South show but wanted to keep on heading into my next big event at Lakefront Arena in New Orleans on May 6.  So, I just decided to give a summary of the next two shows before New Orleans.

Angle #1:  Ted Dibiase and Jake “The Snake” Roberts

Jake was to wrestle Ted Dibiase on television on April 22 in the main event in the Rapides Parish Coliseum.  Ernie Ladd had laid down the law on the previous show and said that if The Barbarians, Alofa, Mike Rotundo or Sheik Adnan Al Kassie interfered in the match, the title would automatically be handed to Jake Roberts.  As the show progressed on April 22, Jake Roberts had yet to be seen in the locker room.  Just as his match was to start, a bloodied Snake is being led to the podium by Paul Ellering.  Ellering is screaming that he found Roberts laying in the parking lot and that it was obvious that he was attacked by one of Dibiase’s minions.  Dibiase came out and promised he had nothing to do with it and was frustrated because he just wants to beat Jake Roberts one more time and put all this nonsense behind him.  It was obvious that Snake was in no shape to wrestler as Dibiase snickered about his misfortune.  Ernie Ladd came out and promised that the cameras would be checked and that Dibiase better be right that he had nothing to do with.

Not wanting to upset the fans, Ernie Ladd informed the Louisiana Heavyweight Champion that he would still have to defend his title tonight and that Jake Robert’s replacement would be Junkyard Dog.  Dibiase went berserk but there was nothing he could do about it.

As for the Dibiase-JYD match, it went right down to the last seconds of the tv show and as we were running out of time,  JYD catches Dibiase with the Thump (powerslam) but before he could make the pin on Dibiase, Alofa and The Barbarians made the save.?   Gordon Solie ends the show thinking that due to Dibiase’s stipulations for his match tonight with Jake Roberts, that JYD will be the Louisiana Heavyweight Champion even though he won the match by DQ but we will have to get word from Ernie Ladd on next week’s show.

Fast forward to the April 29 tv show in The Cajundome in Lafayette where some very interesting developments occur.  First, Ernie Ladd informs us that since JYD was a last-minute replacement for the injured Jake “The Snake” Roberts, they only had time to use a very basic contract and that there were no stipulations allowing the title to change hands on a disqualification.  JYD, the fans and even Gordon Solie were very upset with this decision, but Ernie Ladd said there was nothing he could do about it.  Ladd did say that he had some other information that might make everybody a little happier.  He said that he was able to do a little research of the attack on Jake Roberts last week in the parking lot of the Rapides Parish Coliseum and that, without a shadow of a doubt, the person who attacked Jake Robert’s was Mike Rotundo.  Gordon asks if Jake Roberts was the new Louisiana Heavyweight Champion as it was stipulated that any outside interference, Dibiase would have to turn his title over to Jake “The Snake” Roberts.  Ladd replied that Dibiase was still the champion as the attack did not occur during the match, but that Mike Rotundo has been indefinitely suspended effective immediately.  The fans seem happy Rotundo is gone but aren’t happy that Dibiase is still the champion.

Last bit of information on this angle is that Jake “the Snake” Roberts will be getting another show at the Louisiana Heavyweight Title on May 6th in the Lakefront Arena… this time… in a STEEL CAGE!

MID-SOUTH TELEVISION TITLE

Ever since Rick Steiner won the TV title, Eddie Gilbert and Missy Hyatt have been very jealous.  So jealous in fact that they attacked him and kicked him out of Hot Stuff Inc.  On April 22, Eddie and Missy interrupted an interview after Rick’s successful title defense against The Grappler and demanded that Eddie get a TV title match.  Steiner is so sick of both Eddie and Missy that he wanted the match that day and headed to the ring.  Eddie looked a little nervous at how hyped-up Steiner was that he hesitated and then Missy grabbed the microphone and said that Eddie already had a busy schedule and has not prepared for the title match but that he would be ready on March 6th at the Lakefront Arena.  Steiner laughed and gladly accepted.

MID-SOUTH TAG TEAM TITLE:

The title match between the champs, Hercules Hernandez and Scott Steiner and The Barbarians managed by Sheik Adnan Al-Kassie has been set for Lakefront Arena now for a few weeks.  All we get on the April 22nd and the April 29th shows are a few heated promos and one big stare down where the champions dared the Barbarians to enter the ring, but Sheik decided to let them stew for another week.  Whichever team wins this match, is sure to have survived a war.

Mid-South Title Match:

While any match between Lex Luger © and Hacksaw Butch Reed is headlines enough, the big story here might be the Snowman.  While he surprised everyone last month at the Lakefront Arena when he attacked Hacksaw in his title match against Luger, he now has everyone expecting the worse.  He confronted Reed a few weeks ago on TV and was real angry at Reed and Ladd.  He said they were both Uncle Tom’s to Ted Turner and that he would not allow someone like Reed to win the Mid-South title.  It is obvious to all that he is just angry and not getting the wrestling job he wanted here in Mid-South, but he has everyone on their toes as he has vowed to be at Lakefront Arena on May 6th.   Hacksaw better have eyes in the back of his head.

The Ragging Bull Issue:

Manny Fernandez has only been in Mid-South a few weeks but seems set on making Vader’s life miserable.  Two weeks ago, he did a little history lesson on Vader and reminded everyone that just last year, he was known as The Bull, Leon White where he won a few matches and lost a few matches.  Manny reminded everyone that he left for about 6 months and returned with Kevin Sullivan and Woman and these two lunatics want everyone to believe that they changed Leon White into some unbeatable monster.  Fernandez lets everyone know that there is only one Bull in Mid-South and that’s him and he wants Vader in the ring.

Woman came out with Vader and confronted Manny and laughed at his idea that he could’nt even last 5 minutes in the ring with Vader.  Manny accepted that challenge and headed to the ring.  Unfortunately for the Ragging Bull, Vader Pearl Harbored Manny and gave him a pretty good beat down.  Last week, Manny, recovered from the attack, demanded Ernie Ladd to sign a match between Vader and himself, and Ladd gladly added it to the May 6th event in the Lakefront Arena.

OTHER MATCHES SIGNED FOR MAY 6th AT LAKEFRONT ARENA

Alofa with Sheik Adnan Al Kassie vs Mighty Goliath

I don't mind these summaries because you always manage to convey the important information that we need to know.

The Battle of the Bulls is gonna rock the Lakefront Arena.

Missy's mouth just wrote a check that Gilbert's ass might not be able to cash.

Roberts gets Dibiase in a cage, nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. How does the Million Dollar Man get out of this?

This is easily the most important Snowman has ever been.

No need to beat yourself up over it. The summery was very good and did what it was supposed to do - get you closer to that next big show while catching us up on "what down before". Very effective way of doing things .

Also, if facing writers block, this at least keeps you involved with the territory rather than trying to write yourself out of it and/or take weeks off, eventually losing interest and losing your readers.

Big curveball if JYD was awarded the title, leaving Jake Roberts on the outside looking in.

As things are in the personal side of things between them, Rick Steiner/Eddie Gilbert will be a hot one. I agree with AD, Missy might have done Gilbert in.

Despite coming to Midsouth recently, I am enjoying the Manny Fernandez story. It is a good and juicy one to throw him into against Vader and dying in Sullivan and Woman.

The show in the 6th is going to be a good one.

I'm with the others, the summaries work well. They do a great job of keeping things moving.

The Dibiase/Jake story has been one of the best in the game. I love all the side bits with Ladd, Rotunda and JYD. This story is red hot. Now, it all comes down to the cage. This match guarantees a sell out crowd.

Another great build has been Hot Stuff Inc and Steiner. That's another hot match we'll see at the Lakefront Coliseum. If Steiner wins, the fans will blow the roof off the place.

Herc and Scotty vs. The Barbarians is going to be brutal and hard hitting.

Luger vs. Reed is a huge match, add in the Snowman angle and this is going to be must see.

I knew Manny would get into something big and he did just that by antagonizing Vader. We'll find out who the real Bull is.

The card is stacked! With everything going down in the big matches, we're also going to see big names like the Texas Outlaws and JYD in action. Can't wait!

LAKEFRONT ARENA

MAY 6

Snowman is in the crowd and has a seat near the front row.

Brad Rheingans defeats Shaun Simpson in a rare Mid-South babyface vs babyface match as he was able to stifle Simpson’s aerial tactics and countered it with a technical ground game and got the win after a big gutwrench suplex.

Alofa (Ted Dibiase's 400 pound bodyguard) with Sheik Adnan Al Kassie defeats Mighty Goliath in a battle of the big man as Alofa got some help from Sheik and then connected with a middle rope Giant Splash for the win.

The Texas Outlaws (Dick Murdick & Stan Hansen) defeated The Assassin & The Cuban Assassin in a nasty brawl that saw Murdoch hit the brainbuster on the Cuban Assassin.

JYD defeated Moondog Moretti with the Big Thump

“Ragging Bull” Manny Fernandez defeated Vader with Woman when Woman accidently hit him with a chair as she was swinging at Fernandez.  Fernandez was then able to hit the Flying Burrito on Vader.

Mid-South TV Title Match

Rick Steiner © defeated Eddie Gilbert vs Missy Hyatt by DQ as Steiner was attacked by two blonde men who had not been seen in the Mid-South before.  The match had been controlled for the most part by Steiner but due to the nonsense of Missy Hyatt, Gilbert did have his moments wrestling from the top.  The two newcomers attacked as Steiner looked like he was getting ready to put Gilbert away.  The 3-1, or 4-1 if you include Missy Hyatt and her nails and purse, was just too much for Rick.  The crowd exploded as Scott Steiner rushed to his brother’s aid.  While Scott did help to balance the numbers, eventually he takes a pretty good beating as Hot Stuff Inc leave the ring with smiles on their faces while two Steiner’s are down in the ring.

Mid-South Tag Team Title Match

Hercules Hernandez & Scott Steiner © vs The Barbarians (Konga & Nord) with Sheik Adnan Al Kassie

The problem here is that in a match with such tough, strong men, everyone needs to be at their best or there is going to be a problem.  With Scott Steiner just taking a beating from Hot Stuff Inc. he was not ready to face the Barbarians.  While Hercules tried to make up for it and Scott gave everything he had, not being at 100%, cost the champs in the end as Nord hit the face first suplex on Scott and Konga made sure Hercules couldn’t make the save.  For the first time in 6 months, we have New Tag Team Champions!

Mid-South Title Match

“The Total Package Lex Luger © with Woman vs Hacksaw Butch Reed

While everyone is on the edge of their seats for this one, most still have one eye on Snowman.  He continues to make a ruckus throughout the match especially when Hacksaw is wrestling from the top.  At the later stages of the match, Hacksaw is in control and connects with big move after big move.  While he can’t quite get the pin, he seems to be getting closer.  In fact it was 2 ¾ count after he connected with the diving shoulder block.  Reed is upset by the count and slams the mat.  Snowman is up and screaming at Reed.  He is so loud that Reed notices.  Snowman starts coming over the steel divider that separates the fans from the ring floor.  Security rush him.  He is knocking them down one by one and heading to the ring.  Finally, he is grabbed by about 8 men but they are still struggling.  After a long struggle, it looks like his momentum has been stopped and he is being dragged backwards towards the exit.  Reed seems to refocus…

WHAM… To late!  Running lariat by Lex Luger.

1…2…3!!

Snowman for the second straight month at Lakefront Arena has stopped Reed from winning the Mid-South Title!

STEEL CAGE MATCH

LOUISIANA HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH

Ted Dibiase © with Sheik Adnan Al Kassie vs Jake “The Snake” Roberts with Paul Ellering

The rules in this No-DQ cage match are simple… you can win by pinfall, submission or escaping from the cage and reaching the arena floor.  As for the match, this one has it all but let’s first give credit to the cage as it does its job.  Alofa did accompany Dibiase to the ring but no matter how many times he tried to get into the cage to help his boss, the 400-pounder was kept at bay.  The same thing can be said for both Sheik and Paul Ellering.

As for the actual match, almost anything you can think of happened.  We saw each wrestler showing a lot of color as they were tossed into the cage, had their faces grinded against the cage and were simple abused by the cage.  We also saw some false finishes as Dibiase somehow powered out after a DDT and the Snake was able to reverse a nasty Figure 4 that left him hobbling for a few minutes.  The Snake seemed on the verge of victory after a top rope elbow drop but Dibiase moved at the last moment and Snake was hurting.  Dibiase then headed for the easy victory going through the door.  Somehow Roberts grabbed caught Dibiase and the two struggled.  Eventually, Roberts was able to slam the cage door off of Dibiase’s head.

The ending was crazy as we saw a nasty double clothesline where both men struggled to get to their feet.  Roberts was up first and went for the heroic path to victory as he tried to climb over the top of the cage and to the floor for the victory.  Once again Dibiase caught the Snake and the two battled on the top rope.  Eventually Snake won this segment and sent Dibiase crashing to the floor after he followed an eye rake with a knee to the gut.

Snake continues with his climb to the top of the cage but you can tell by his slow pace, exactly how tired he is.  Dibiase begins to stir on the floor and sees his only chance to save his title is to escape through the door.  He begins his long crawl as the doorkeeper unlocks the cage.

Snake is over the cage and begins his decent down the stage.  Dibiase still has ½ of ring to get across…

They each continue towards victory…

Snake leaps from the cage towards the floor…. He is about to be the new champ….

WAIT… Alofa has caught Jake Roberts and is holding him from the floor.  Snake is struggling to break free.  Here comes Paul Ellering.  He takes out the knees of Alofa but he still holds Snake.

Dibiase rolls out the door to the floor…. Snake is dropped by Alofa and hits the floor…

Depending on where you were sitting, you have a different opinion of who won the match.  We need to wait for the ref’s decision.

THE WINNER AND STILL LOUISIANA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION…. TED DIBIASE

I loved the contrast between the first and second match.

Can anybody beat the Outlaws in a brawl?

JYD shows Moretti why he's Mid South's big dog.

Oh man, Woman screws up badly and costs Vader his match with Manny.

Looks like Hot Stuff Inc is rebuilding as both Steiners take a beating.

Scott's previous beating takes a toll as we now have new champs! I enjoyed Herc and Scott's run, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to a wild and crazy Barbarians run.

Snowman causes quite the scene that it costs Reed the title yet again. I can't wait to hear Ladd's solution to this problem. I wonder if Williams is next in line for Luger?

Oh man, Dibiase and Jake had their working boots on tonight as they gave the fans their money's worth. Dibiase's money pays off as Alofa saves the day. What a thrilling ending. This was great because it sets up another blow off. Superb storytelling.
