The Thread Killer
I wondered about that after seeing the episode. The crowd seemed pretty loud for the Takeshita/Tony Nese match, but aside from that and the aforementioned Six Man, they seemed pretty subdued. They really need to do their own tapings. Flyin' Brian
I really wish AEW would make a bigger deal out of these Battle for the Belts shows or just stop doing them. At first it was sold like it would be an updated Clash of The Champions, now it’s becoming like an episode of Rampage just all the matches are for a title but there’s no chance of a title change. Tonight’s show on paper looks like a skip for me.

Does anybody think there is an even a 0.1% chance of them winning? Or even that it would be a good match? What’s the point? Then again, I am still totally baffled at the fact that they have saddled Hobbs with Marshall to begin with.
RocknWrestling
I also agree that it'd be nice if AEW made Battle of the Belts a bigger deal. Those shows actually feel like an even lesser deal than Rampage, despite having titles defended in each match. Hobbs and QT Marshall being linked up doesn't make sense to me; it already feels like they've derailed Hobbs' push with this nonsense. I have actually seen some people trying to defend it, saying that it is “long term storytelling” because of some angle they started with Marshall and Hobbs months ago. Who cares. It doesn’t change the fact that pretty much since the day AEW started, QT Marshall has been presented as a joke/enhancement talent at best. I’m sorry, but from where I sit the guy is just not that good. He might be a decent trainer sure, but that doesn’t make him a compelling talent to watch. You don’t stick him with a guy who is supposed to be one of your biggest up and comers. It does not elevate Marshall…it devalues Hobbs. Those gawd awful QTV segments just prove that. I don’t really see how this helps anybody.
Johnny Sorrow
The continued fucking up of Powerhouse Hobbs is baffling.

It's difficult to make Battle for the Belts seem all that special when Dynamite this week already had two title matches ahead of it (three, if you count the FTW belt (I don't)). Yeah, maybe save a big match like FTR/Gunns for it or have a match/tournament for a title shot to at least build up a storyline. The matches are just random and out of nowhere. Yeah Hobbs beat the Lucha Bros in back to back weeks and I guess this is their opportunity to get their win back but we all know QT is taking the fall. Hobbs definitely deserves better and so do the Lucha Bros. On one hand Hobbs/QT is long term storytelling, but on the other hand Hobbs is definitely at a point where QT drags Hobbs down to his level and that’s not good. RocknWrestling
They already had a great story in place with Powerhouse Hobbs growing up hard in the streets of Oakland (I thought he was from East Palo Alto, but okay) and writing new chapters in the Book of Hobbs. He was starting to look like a remorseless killer type until getting mixed up with QT Marshall. Hobbs doesn't need to be a lackey for this jabroni. He needs to be using the TNT title to cut a path of destruction through AEW.
El-P
I have no issue with Hobbs hooking up with QT and the crew. For the simple reason that we already have had 3 TNT champ of the exact same type in Miro, Wardlow and Samoa Joe. Hobbs would have been the exact same mold. A big monster guy destroying people, oh well, we've seen that already a whole lot, give me something else. The more heelish, cheating act gives the entire thing a different dynamic, it's a nice change of presentation and doesn't take anything away from Hobbs. Plus, I always enjoy QT anyway, PWO hate notwithstanding (see also... oh, nevermind). Super solid worker, good promo, the vignettes are actually effective in establishing the character of the whole group (and Harley Cameron seems like a good get too). I absolutely enjoy the whole thing thus far. You wanna talk about something that has been a mess ? Well, here you go, the Swerve Strickland single push. First he comes with some tatooed dudes, one of which being an NXT 2.0 reject. Then one dude disappears without explanations nor angle, barely even named and never working, then Boudreaux shows how *not fucking ready at all* he is (and maybe he's just a case of not having potential nor the will to improve, who knows) then apparently disappears too, then Swerves hooks up with the lamest ROH people in the Embassy (well, I do enjoy Brian Cage's work to some degree, but the other two, especially Kaun, are the definition of meh). Meanwhile, no match against Keith Lee in the horizon, so the guy is wandering from crappy entourage to lame alliance. Jeez, just give him a cool female sidekick or something a-la Zelina & Andrade in NXT, and off you go with a big push. Oh, and I've seen people POINTING AT FUCKING SIGNS ! That can't happen in AEW, I won't tolerate that kind of WWE-lite shit there. Stop it now, please. But overall, I'm quite enjoying what the company is doing (coming off maybe their greatest PPV too, and an excellent ROH one), thank you very much. That plus the ROH show has delivered some really cool as hell stuff (and I mean, Shibata is a champ, that enough should make people go batshit insane)
NotJayTabb
People have rightly pointed out that Hit Row desperately miss Swerve in WWE, but the attempts at giving him his own heel stables in AEW have shown just how much they also suited his presentation too. Actually, I'd argue the complete opposite (as far as him needing a stable I mean). Because he was in a stable in WWE, now they seem to think he got to have a stable in AEW, which is again kinda lazy thinking on their part. In fact, he doesn't need anyone, really. He's charismatic as hell, he's a terrific worker, he's an excellent promo, he can fly solo. You know the only thing Swerve really "needs" ? Get him this music back, let him do his thing without anyone ridding on his coattails, and fly Swerve to the top.
The Thread Killer
I agree. Swerve is fine the way he is. He really doesn’t need to be part of a stable or group or whatever. Just push the hell out of the guy, he’s awesome.
KawadaSmile
I think Swerve, while great, is better served with a stable, or someone to have some dynamics with him. Now, that Hit Row would be the best fit both companies could give him, that was something else. It's a matter of chemistry, to be honest. Bigger than the sum of their parts.
