Jmare007
It seems AEW decided to stop the Buy 1 Get 1 free ticket deals and heavy discounts in the week leading up to shows, so TV tapings are struggling like a motherfucker to sell. Tonight's Dynamite is at 1,8k tickets. They are truly becoming a PPV-only promotion (Revolution sold out (15k tickets) 3 months in advance and they could probably get 20k sold if they decided to run a small stage/entrance). Also, TK is making Copeland vs Suzuki commercial free.
MoS
Joe will get weekly attendances up if we give him a few weeks to cook
KawadaSmile
I think their business strategy of lowering prices to get attendance up backfired. Like, I would imagine early buyers got fucking pissed because some would get similarly good seats at a way lower price just by virtue of waiting a bit. Timbo Slice
They also ran larger arenas because of their post-pandemic peak and that’s causing a big backfire too because they thought that was sustainable.
NintendoLogic
It may seem counterintuitive, but lowering ticket prices to boost attendance frequently has the opposite effect. In fact, Zane Bresloff turned house show business around for WCW by raising the price of tickets. The idea is that making an event more expensive makes it seem more major league. By the same token, raising the price of IYH PPVs was what returned the WWF to profitability in the mid-90s. The Veblen effect in action. Jmare007
Yeah, re-educating their audience is gonna take time and some hard pills to swallow. I know there's at least a couple of Canada shows that have had very promising advances (3-5k already sold) but others are looking just as grim as the rest of the U.S shows. They probably need Revolution to be an incredible PPV with new big signings showing up and building some buzz once again. They are gonna have Ospreay and for their business sake, they gotta get at least Mercedes. Not sure Okada would make much of a difference, though I've heard Meltzer say he's sold some late tickets when announced for AEW TV.
KawadaSmile
They are running a show on the same city hosting the goddamn SuperBowl THE DAY BEFORE the goddamn SuperBowl. It's a rough patch for sure. I blame Max's reign
NintendoLogic
Being pro wrestling world champion should be like being president of the United States. You're only eligible if you're 35 or older. Those are the two most important offices in the world, so it stands to reason they should have similar eligibility requirements. Coffey
Honestly this has been a great show so far.. until this Red Velvet//Thunder Rosa match.
Coffey
Samoa Joe started the show as a badass champion. Hook got some heat back after his loss. Hardy/Swerve, Hangman/Penta & Wardlow/Trent were all entertaining. I liked the Deonna\Toni segment & even the Moxley promo. So yeah, I am quite happy so far. KawadaSmile
Damn, they did 80k in London not even a year ago and are struggling to get to 4k... Funny how things change!!!! ()
sek69
Wow, Suzuki sure didn't coast in that match.... god damn. Him and Copeland beat the piss out of each other.
strobogo
You have to book arenas many months in advance, if you have a downturn in sales, it isn't something you can just jump back to smaller venues right away.
Tetsujin
Edge/MiSu rocked. Best Suzuki AEW match ever alongside the Darby one. Edge has better forearms than 95% of NJPW and AEW rosters combined.
Embrodak
The Bucks are pretty bad at promos and acting. Also, that Hook segment was just so amateurishly done. Dude comes out in fucking sweats, sounds unconvincing and unconvincingly tough cutting the shortest promo possible, then Joe calls security and the three fakest looking security guys in a while come in the ring to get suplexed. Setting aside that they blew their wad on attacking security guards on a goofy comedy angle with Wardlow a while back, since when does the champ have the right to call in security guards to clear the ring? Why would a supposed babyface (even a badass, dark and brooding Sasuke-style babyface) attack three guys just doing their job when they barely did anything to provoke him? Is there no ambition amongst the young guys and backstage producers to try and make Tony’s half-baked deployment of wrestling tropes come across as somewhat credible? (Also the Hook signal is kinda lame, why does the camera pan up and zoom in on it every time?)
Jmare007
The final sequence of Nagata blocking one of Danielson's kicks, leading to Dragon having to use some faints to knock Yuji down and then hit his finisher was fucking dope. Damn good match as expected.
The Man in Blak
Finally caught up on DVR for Collision and that was the best episode they've put together since everything blew up with Punk. I don't know if it was the hot crowd or a sense that people might be a little more willing to check out AEW with the recent Vince revelations or what, but everybody brought it up and down the card. (Okay, maybe Willie Mack brought it a little *too* much on that botched standing moonsault, but it ended up working out well within the story of the match.) The joy of Danielson working with Nagata was also very much evident. Gotta love that during his last year an a full-time wrestler, Danielson's main program thus far has been Eddie Kingston. Gotta get him at Arena Mexico for that Blue Panther match.
Stiva
I haven’t been commenting on specific shows but I will say that 2024 AEW is the most I’ve enjoyed it for quite a while. I’m enjoying pretty much everything and while I wish they would try and find a balance between some more creative angles and great matches as they did at their peak, it feels like TK has got his ducks in a row in a way that he hasn’t for a long while. I do think they need a couple of big signings to counteract the perception that a lot of workers are wanting to jump back to WWE and I’m not really sure anything they’re going to do will lead to increased ticket sales but eh, I’m enjoying it. I just hope they stick the landing with Swerve down the line

Part of me thinks Tony warming up with CMLL in the last few months is just so they are cool with Bryan getting his Blue Panther match, which I'm completely okay with.
