…who the hell comes up with these names, man?

I can at least understand the Monroe part, since that's a throwback '50s reference to Marilyn Monroe and callback to her association with "Timeless" Toni Storm. But Blake? I guess that's supposed to reference Blake Lively? Otherwise, I got nothing. They should call her "The Modern Throwback."

Update: She picked Blake because of her niece. Awww! :)

Mariah May is so much a better name than that, what was the reason she couldn’t just be Mariah May? AEW copyrighting names now? She could have even went Mariah Monroe and kept the alliteration

Same as it always was, they want to own their talent's IP. It seems after a bunch of people got to keep their name (Cargill, Spears, Ethan Page, Penta, Fénix, MCMG), they are back to giving people WWE name.

I've seen the vignette. 100% lifted off Timeless Toni (complete with double entendres), only a few decades later, which basically makes her Scarlet Bordeaux (remember when she had hype because she was a fun worker years ago ? I guess being paid to only be an animatronic intro isn't too bad)

It's fascinating how WWE wants to be a monopoly despite the fact it's obvious that they actually benefit from not being one. AEW has been around long enough now that there are actually a whole lot "ex-AEW" workers in WWE now. They are slowly drying up TNA from their best/most over talent, and we'll see what it means in two years from now. The fact they are now after Mike Santana too is hilarious for so many reasons.

That’s what I mean. They’ve let workers come in and keep their names and they’re changing Mariah’s? Just seems strange. Especially considering she’s the one coming in with a ton of buzz following the Toni feud

I dunno either. Cargill was the first "big" (yeah, in retrospect, lulz) jump after Cody. Shawn Spears & MCMG are veterans. Ethan Page is probably the last one that kept his name I believe, apart from Penta & Fénix, whose luchador status may have played a part in letting them keep their name (considering these were AAA trademarks to boot I believe). It seems lately the thing is changing everybody's name again.

Now I doubt they will change Joe Hendry's... Now THAT would be fucking hilarious.

(also, Blake Monroe really hasn't done anything worthwile before she got to NXT. Google her name, you'll see. She's a star because she's in NXT and nothing else. The glamour image and retro-star gimmick is also totally a credit to NXT's genius creative minds)

Also, wanna some fun fact ? It's been a year since Hikuleo has worked his final match in NJPW. One full year. Talk about ridiculous.

Hukuleo apparently finally made his debut before SmackDown went on the air tonight. I guess the match will probably air on Main Event or something. I assume he will be showing up on SmackDown next week when Solo and Jacob Fatu have their big face-to-face confrontation.

So after watching Seth on Raw and Trick Williams on NXT, it's making me wonder why is WWE having heels retain their babyface theme music that encourages crowd participation? Especially in Seth's case when he's supposed to be leading a faction that wants to take over Raw and crush anyone who gets in their way, yet he still has the whole arena singing his song every night.

Because WWE has always treated their audience like pavlovian dogs, dating back to the Attitude Era.

(which is why the Hurt Syndicate theme in AEW is a mistake when they are supposed to be heels)

Oh it dates back long before then, they'd actually show kids dancing to Jive Soul Bro back in the late 80s/early 90s (though it was so funky it's kind of hard not to dance), despite Slick and his guys being heels.

Yeah as great of a song it is, it was completely wrong as a heel theme. You can't boo  that kind of funk.

I'm at the point where I'm kinda relived that Punk doesn't take shit so seriously and personally anymore, lol.

Cena's promo on Smackdown was a fun callback to the Pipebomb -much more tongue in cheek and "fun", of course- and I'm sure that Punk was more than ok with the segment in itself. But him being laid out there for 7 minutes looking old and having to sell for so long while Cena kept going on, calling him Mr. TKO, a millionaire and a capitalist and basically making Punk -the babyface- look like complete shit, legit surprised me. That's the kind of thing Punk would've probably tried to change not that long ago and would've made a big fuss about not getting his way, causing backstage problems.

Now he seems ok with just going with it even though this angle clearly seems like WWE/HHH making him look pretty bad.

Yeah, I saw all this and my first thought was “Hunter is choosing now to try and get his own back on Punk” Jesus, the dude is taking L after L in this shit. And it’s not like Punk is beating him

I also thought the promo was pretty fun when I caught it today on Reddit.

My only assumption is that this is setting up a Punk promo on Monday where he'll essentially be given the opportunity to speak to "John Cena" but actually be talking to all the fans that have been dunking on him ever since it was announced he'd be going to Saudi Arabia?

In terms of building a wrestling match, I think its silly and a bit too "inside baseball" because here is much more history between the two and more of a story to tell that is completely separate from CM Punk going back on his criticisms of the Saudi government years ago.

But if this leads to a 10-minute CM Punk mea culpa promo where we get to see him squirm and try to defend himself to "the IWC," which is just such a useless endeavor anyway, I'm making popcorn because this is the type of surreal, absurd shit I really enjoy.

It would be even funnier because just as the 2011 promo, even though there were shoot-y elements on it to get a reaction, Cena's promo was mainly about being the GOAT and Punk being a fake "best in the world". Just as Punk's promo a decade ago was more about him winning the belt and leaving the company with it.

If anything Punk should cut a fiery promo about why he's still the best and shrug off the rest.

I'm sure Punk got an ungodly amount of money when he came back, since WWE wanted to stick it to AEW so he probably doesn't care about looking bad at this point.

Pretty sure I just watched Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton do nothing for half-an-hour. In my defence, it was half-time of Botafogo and Palmeiras.

I did see Punk apologising to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in my Reddit feed, and it was beautiful.

I usually hate Nia Jax, but I really liked the Last Man Standing with Tiffany Stratton. I was originally going to skip it, but I saw a couple highlights (Tiffy jumping from the apron to run into the steps Jax was holding, and Jax splashing off the apron onto Tiffy through the table on the floor) that made me go back and watch the whole match. I think it was probably Tiffy's selling which makes me want to watch her matches more closely from now on. It's kind of silly that she won, but she seems like she is good at getting destroyed by a bigger woman.
