The Jinder title win is getting all the focus but I want to point out just how fucking terrible that debut match for Nakamura was. If the idea was to have a "great match" in his debut then it was a failure. If the idea was to make him come across as special it was a COLOSSAL failure because he spent the match pretty much being dominated by Dolph, having Dolph avoid/counter his moves, barely being able to kickout of Dolph's shitty Zig Zag and then having the briefest of comebacks at the end to win. If Dolph called that match himself he should have immediately been fired. Or shot.

Ring Ka King was awesome and all of your posts in this thread have been bad. A little bit of both I think. I wouldn't go so far as to say Jinder is REALLY good but there's no denying his match with Orton was better than either of Bray's PPV matches with Randy. I thought he was also way better at working holds and focusing on an injured body part than Kevin Owens was when going after AJ's knee in their match.

Let's stop blaming all the issues with Seth Rollins as a face on booking when he has no idea what babyface selling is supposed to look like and sells this submission like a heel desperately trying to get to the ropes instead of coming off as sympathetic in any way

I'm not sure if he even showed up for that tournament. The turn was the last time he worked on Continental TV as he left to go to Mid-South. There are the most complete results you'll probably find http://sportsandwrestling.mywowbb.com/forum2/40346-2.html

That's actually the only time I'd seen them do that move, I'm more familiar with them as babyfaces where their finisher was one hitting a Tombstone and the other following up with a top rope leg drop.

Actually if they had rehired Festus instead of Gallows that would have been fine. That gimmick could have maybe hidden how completely broken down he seems to be now.

I wouldn't say Barrett sucked but he got really over rated because people wanted to believe their bullshit narrative about how Cena ruined the next top guy. But you can't say anything about Edge being "fragile" or "injury prone" and spare Barrett the same criticism. I would rather watch a Barrett match than an Edge match though because Edge was fucking garbage.

I'd say that he and Adrian Street probably sold some tickets in their feud in Continental in 1986 where Rip beat up Miss Linda.
-
Rip Rogers didn't even write that it was sent to him by someone else at which point Rip just posted it to twitter. So please direct your "old and of touch!!!" comments to the 24 year old wrestler who actually wrote it.

I can't imagine Billy would have shelled out extra money to buy the footage without a desire to keep, if not upgrade, the current OnDemand site.

He is apparently about to have a hip replacement surgery that he was holding it off until he knew he was totally retired. So I would say yea, he's done.

I love that people are still mad about WWE calling itself "sports entertainment" especially when they act like it's something new and the reason that ratings are down. Somehow it was WRESTLING in the Attitude Era and only after that it became sports entertainment when they were using that term during and before the Attitude Era. I think Vince coining the term "sports entertainment" to con sponsors and TV execs into thinking he was somehow promoting something different from all those other wrestling companies is one of the smartest and greatest carny things ever in wrestling. Wrestlers have never sounded "natural" in so far as talking like average people. I don't think a whole lot of people in the 80s were going around calling everyone "Daddy" or "Jack" or "Baby" other than wrestlers. Or the rampant use of "Let me tell ya something"

I think in the early Continental episodes they were struggling to figure out how to make the switch from a studio show to the arena. They were doing insanely long 8-9 minute squash matches I guess to try and make the people in the arena not feel like they were getting ripped off but it didn't make for great TV and it cut into how much time they would have for other stuff so you'd wind up with guys doing color commentary during the match to cut promos. That doesn't seem to last that long as I know by January of 1986 they'd kind of settled into their normal set up and cut back on the super long squash matches. Tommy Rich grabbing the house mic to start a Fired Up chant during one of his matches is probably the greatest thing I've seen in the early Continental period.

Not seeing how it could be called terrible cosplay seeing as how Sami has felt very genuine and real in those backstage segments.
-
From all accounts that is pretty close to how he is backstage when planning a match so they've just used the old "be yourself and turn the volume up" strategy for him.

South African Boomer Lynch was really kind of a departure from their usual booking tropes. I mean they'd use evil foreign heels like the Sheepherders and Boris Zhukov but having someone be an outright racist is something I didn't see them do before or after that character. And just being "foreign" didn't automatically make you a bad guy there since Jacque Rougeau was always a babyface in the territory. They were a surprisingly progressive promotion at other times like running a men vs. women tag match in 1981 and spending a lot of time on TV building it up as a legitimate contest and turning Adrian Street into a babyface. Of course Fuller did also bring in the Nazi flag toting Storm Trooper character in USA Championship in 1988 so it could be a real mixed bag.

They seemed to be setting up a feud between the two. I would rather see Harper doing something better than that but if they are going to have a feud you kind of have to make Rowan win the first match.

The PPV that Braun is supposed to wrestle Brock on isn't until July 9th so it's still possible they do that match there if he is only out 4-8 weeks which is the timetable I've seen thrown around.

A lot. It's only 1 mouse click away to see what all there is.

Every bit of Southeastern & Continental I have is now up on my youtube page youtube.com/c/ArmstrongAlley and can easily be watched in order using the playlists that I made. If you're looking for a starting point, start in 1985 right after the change over from Southeastern to Continental. Video quality sucks for the first 3 episodes but after that the VQ gets really good thru the rest of 85 and almost all of 86.

WWE really needs to have a match where Roman puts his hair on the line. The women who cheer for him would be way more invested in him possibly losing his hair than winning or losing a belt.
-
Yes there is 88 out there but I gotta do a lot of work with it and 89 was a lot easier to just quickly put up because fellow PWO poster WrestlingPower had already done the work of piecing that year together and putting it in order so all I had to do was simply convert the DVDs I got from him and put them on youtube. To get all the rest of this stuff onto youtube I had to sort through all 86 of my Southeastern/Continental DVDs and put things in order, edit episodes together that were in clip form on various different DVDs or edit in better VQ versions of certain clips into full episodes. It was definitely not just an easy "stick a DVD in my computer and let HandBrake do all the work" type of job.
