I got the Crockett History thing with Jim Cornette yesterday. I'm only about 20 minutes in but so far it's interesting. He gets to play the historian and talk about stuff he likes so there's minimal ranting thus far. My biggest complaint is you can't fucking hear the guy asking him questions at all.

I liked the shoot quite a bit but he was full of shit when he was insisting that the booking was fine. All of the shit he said was a big problem but the booking was just as much a part of the problem as backstage stuff that didn't effect the on air product. The faux MMA shit, refusing to turn Steen face, not putting the belt on Elgin when he had a ton of momentum and not using Rhino. His view on comedy talent is also insanely off base.

I've seen maybe 15ish matches of his. Really good. The only problem I've seen with him is I've never seen him go out there and carry someone to a great match. But as far as style goes, I've seen him do a very fast paced aerial match with Rocca, I've seen him do an all over the arena brawl with Abby and I've seen him work a technical match with Dory Funk Jr, He was great at getting in there with guys and working to their strengths while still making sure to show off his strength and agility to wow the crowd. I don't know if I would compare him to Vader but I think DLJ is a very unique wrestler.

Well, guess I'm going to have to find some 1979 television and move forward.
-
I don't think it can personally. Look at the nWo angle which started the last boom. That angle was so outside the box of anything that had come before that it grabbed people's attention. I've been rewatching that 1996/1997 era of WCW and even my non-fan wife has been grabbed by how different those video packages were. She even asked me at one point why no one has figured out how to repeat that formula. I think what it really needs is for an outsider to come in and get significant creative force with the WWE or maybe Jarrett's new company and just go completely out of the box with some big angle.

Is all of 79 available or is it missing some stuff?

Does anyone still watch wrestling on videotapes?
Mad Dog replied to BigBadMick's topic in Pro Wrestling
I converted a lot to DVD in 2005 when I got a DVD recorder. And in all honesty, buying stuff on DVD from other people has gotten so cheap that I just threw all my VHS away and started buying it over again on DVD. I might have a VCR buried in the basement somewhere. -
Main questions here are what year is a good year to jump into if I wanted to with Memphis television? Is picking up when the USWA starts a good place or will I be missing out on some good years of television if I do that?

Bluetista is very upset about the Bluetista thing. What a humorless ass.

http://instagram.com/chuckietea This covers the 24/7 Hardcore Title. It's a bunch of indy wrestlers fucking around in short little videos. A lot of them are entertaining.
-
He's pretty open about being a Reckless Youth hanger on in that era of his career. I think there's a difference working an indy where you show up, do your thing and leave vs. having to travel with that. Plus they were in their early 20s at the time and it was when Reckless Youth was pretty hot. It could be bullshit but I don't think it's totally unbelievable either.
-
No, you have to take it with a grain of salt but that seems really consistent with his lifestyle.
-
I'm not so sure of this. Mike Quackenbush said they had interest in Reckless Youth and himself but they declined joining ECW because of the drug culture in the back. A lot of those newer indy guys might have passed on working there for similar reasons.

I'm kind of unsure how I feel about the Flood stable. That's really become a crutch for Chikara.
-
Sabu... just Sabu...
-
Chikara drew somewhere between 1000-1500 people for their return last night.

He's kind of just static to me. He's not good but he's not so terrible that he detracts from the product.
-
Rose kind of got screwed. He got like 6 weeks to figure that gimmick out before they threw him on WWE tv.
-
I kind of want them to job DB to Kane at Mania and go through with the Orton/Batista match just to see the fans riot.
-
Yeah, that's the error I'm getting. My laptop and tablet work fine but no go on my XBox.
-
Has anyone been able to get on via XBox yet?

I wouldn't say either of these 2 were that good. The only memorable Tenzan match I can recall is that one with Kawada years ago and I'm not even sure that holds up that well upon a re-watch. Chono moreseo than Tenzan. I would place Tenzan as average for most of his career and then he kind of peaked and became what I would call good in the early 2000s. Chono has been in great matches with a variety of opponents. He's good in tags and singles matches. Sure, they were usually against the guys I would call great but he did have that 2003 carry job against a totally broken down Hogan.
