  1. Don't misunderstand me - Bryan is winning and winning clean. But I'm not convinced it will be a convincing win, and more to the point I'm not sure a 30-minute HHH wankfest is in the best interest of Bryan or fits the angle. The injury component makes it fit more, but I have real skepticism about the WWE booking a perpetual underdog like Bryan, as opposed to a an ace disguised as an "underdog" like Cena.
  2. RE: Loss 1. I expect that Bray v. Cena will be really good, and can't imagine why people would think otherwise. 2. While I think it is likely that the scenario you outline with Bryan will occur, I can't see them hooking me into the match and HHH was able to kill dead Brock and Punk at periods when it was hard to do both. I do think the match is likely to be "good," but I'm not sure that is right for the angle.

I assume they are building to Brie Bella (Brie Bryan?) beating her ass. If not it will be a major let down.

Literally laughed my ass off at them announcing the tag title match for the pre-show. It's the only match on the card I am even mildly excited about, and it's placement on the 2-hour pre-show virtually assures that HHH v. Bryan will be a thirty plus minute HHH strokefest, the battle royal will be needlessly long and boring, divas will take up a scary chunk of time, et. At this point ten dollars is starting to feel like a rip off.
  6. I'm looking at this more from a kayfabe/how things have been presented on tv perspective. I'm not sure Rybaxel have ever won a match. The Rhodes Brothers beat the Real Americans twice in a week on t.v., and one of those matches was referred to as a number one contenders match. Rybaxel just lost to Los Matadores on tv clean as a whistle. In principle I don't disagree with your argument, and have no problem with Ryback and Axel getting the spot/pay day.....except it makes no fucking sense based on how the teams in question have been booked
  7. I like Ryback and Axel as a team, but I can't think of any reason why they are in that match and not the Rhodes Brothers. I assume Cesaro turns on the show, as I think The Shield split is being held off.
  8. It is Karl Anderson. I thought this match sucked, but I wouldn't lay that at the feet of Tanahashi as Anderson is one of my least favorite guys in wrestling. The only good match I remember seeing him in last year was against Tenzan of all people. If you want to see a Tanahashi match where he is good playing the ace watch the second of his matches with Ishii from last year. It's the only great Tanahashi performance I've ever seen, and the only time I felt that he played that role.
  9. I had almost the exact opposite view of Kevin in that I thought the first two falls were pretty good, but the third fall came across as real over kill to me. I understand its a high stakes match, but "your turn, my turn" without any sense of organic momentum swings is almost never my cup of tea. Zavala was really good in this, but there area ton of CMLL matches I preferred from last year.
  10. One of the only "great" NJPW matches from last year that I actually thought was great. I could give a shit what Nakamura looks like, and I thought this built and built to a violent finish. Matches like this that have a real feeling of escalation and an "anything can end it vibe" are always going to get over with me.
  11. I liked this fine as a mindless spotfest, but it's not something I would ever watch again
  12. I loved this match when it aired, and can't imagine I would feel any different now. In fact this match actually had me buying ADR as a babyface, which is something I was completely opposed to on principle at the time. I thought his selling and the build to the finish was excellent, I loved Big Show in this, and the finish was actual a cool spin on the standard table spot
  13. I echo Loss on this one. This was a great slugfest of a match, between two guys who have really developed together. I am hesitant to say they have "created" a style to fit their skill sets, but I do think both guys really stand out as unique in CMLL in large part because of shared traits (charisma, facial expressions, dramatic and impactful strikes, great "damage" selling, et.) Rush had a hell of a year, but with no payoff to the Casas feud in 2013, this was really his best singles match (and arguably match of any kind) of the year.
  14. I actually don't remember much about this match, and I'm too lazy to cross reference my thoughts from WKO now, but I do want to note that I think the Bucks are VASTLY better as heels, so if Loss things they are bad heels, I'd shudder to think of how he would view them as faces.
  15. Escorpion is one of the best bases in wrestling and had a tremendous year last year - except he never really had a singles match that came close to what he was doing in trios. This wasn't anywhere near as bad as the abortion of a singles match he had with Maximo late in the year, and in fact there was a lot of cool stuff in this, but I third the view that it wasn't much as a complete match.
  16. Since I'm probably the only person who has actually watched all of these matches (and damn near everything from 2013) I'm going to try and play along. I have reviews written for a ton of these matches, but for now I'm going just going to post general thoughts based on what I remember of the matches. Like a lot of Titan matches this won me over as it went along. The guy is a deeply flawed wrestler, but he absolutely has some of the elements that you want out of a modern lucha "star." It's not really my thing, but for a match of this sort, I thought this was well worked. I do think people who enjoyed this should watch the 12/1 match v. Averno because it is a substantially better match, with many of the same traits that make this work pretty well.
  17. I'm trying to use euphemisms here, but this is kind of an odd match for a "project" like this. I didn't oppose it, and I enjoyed it when I first saw it for what it was, but I'm a mark for Callihan and this was not really a Callihan match at all.
  18. Rewatched this given that Childs and Loss seem to have enjoyed it on some level. Also I did like at least one, if not two of their matches from last year at least a bit. If anything I thought this was worse on second viewing. Unbelievably tedious match. Probably the most bored I've been watching a match in some time actually, which is saying something since I came in with the intent to watch it more carefully. Felt almost HHH-ish at times in it's dullness, and while there were a couple of really nice spots, absolutely nothing was engaging on any level. I wouldn't call it "bad" in the traditional sense, but I'd be hard pressed to name a match that I think is less interesting.
  19. Eric Young is actually a good wrestler. You would not know it from watching him in TNA, but I have seen him in enough indie matches to know he can work.
  20. I think the important question here is - were the Moondogs anarcho-primtivists?
  21. Kane is more a Tea Party "libertarian" rather than a deeply philosophical libertarian. Not dissimilar to where a lot of people who were typically GOP ran to during/after the Bush years and "Republican" made some of them a bit uneasy. This isn't really true. Jacobs is a believer in Austrian economics, very familiar with Mises, Rothbard, et. It is true that he is somewhat wedded to the Ron/Rand Paul political strategy, but I know for a fact he is more deeply philosophical than a lot of people who are actually in the LP Oh, I know his stuff about Austrian economics. But having read his framing of it relative to Keynes, it tends to come across much more as Tea Party / Paulian view of Austrian econ than truly deep philosophical and thinking. The argument relative to Keynes literally goes back to Hayek v. Keynes. Before the Tea Party even existed, there were libertarian writers pointing to Keynes as the evil other acting as a trojan horse toward state socialism decades ago. I don't really know any Tea Partiers I would regard as seriously engaged with Austrian economics, unless you want to argue that a knowledge of what the Road to Serfdom contains qualifies, and I am someone who has covered them and dealt with them on a daily basis far more often than the average person. Matt Kibbe who was with FreedomWorks and others their certainly have interest in Mises, but they are the exception so far as I can tell, and Jacobs is much more of an orthodox Austrian based on his writings, affiliations, and personal conversations he's had with people I know. The idea that Rockwell is a Tea Party type is completely bizarre. I literally know of no one familiar with Lew as a fan, critic, bitter enemy, et. who sees him as Jim Demitt or Mike Lee type. I don't really think PWO is the place to discuss paleolibertarianism as a political strategy and/or the poor branding decisions of Rockwell (or Rothbard) over the years, but I don't think there is a great deal of evidence to support the argument that the writings, academic career, public profile, et. of Rockwell is that of a social conservative who wishes to use the power of the state to impose his will on others.
  22. It is going to be interesting reading your thoughts going forward Loss, as so far I seem to have disagreed with you on every match

Segment would have been good if the crowd hadn't been awful.
  25. Other than Virus, I can't think of any other modern wrestler or wrestling you have strong praise for. Maybe Tanahashi. Still I'd be more surprised if you liked The Shield.
