Did this take place at Arena Nacuplan? It sure looked like it. I likedl this more than you guys I think. Weird seeing Genki with a full head of hear. Dragon Kid looked green but had a lot of potential. Didn't really notice Arai that much. Panther/Santo was the highlight for me. Santo's dive over the barracade was nuts. I mean I know that usually happens every sure but it's different seeing Santo do it. Even though the finish was botched, it was still impressive. Fun match.

I'm not sure what to think of this. So much was going on that it wasn't boring as they were going into the crowd without barriers. It was a typical 2000 WWF hardcore title type match. Rukkus looked impressive and stood out. The other guys looked indie as hell. It's a good snapshot of 2000 indies but It's not a good match.

[2000-01-08-NWA Wildside-TV] Jorge Estrada vs K-Krush
Tim Evans replied to Loss's topic in January 2000
Man Krush has not aged much at all in 17 years. It's ridiculous. Nice to see some old school NWA Wildside here. Jorge Estrada would go on to become a flying Elvis in TNA. Good tv match to get Krush over as champ. He must have left shortly after this cause he would be in Memphis a couple weeks later. Jeff G Bailey is hilarious on commentary just ripping Steve Martin/Chase Williams.- 8 replies

[2000-01-08-CZW-Bloodbath 2000] Low Ki vs Ric Blade
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in January 2000
Low Ki vs the King of the botches Ric Blade. Blade makes Sabu look like Mr. Wrestling II. If I saw this in 2000, I would have probably loved it as it was just a go go go style and they did hit some spectacular moves. The Ki Krusher through the table that only resulted in a 2 count was funny. Not as funny as Blade missing the dive through a table and having to do it again. Ki looked like a 5 year vet here and he'd only get better. Good performance from him but I didn't care for the match. -
This felt like an FCW match where it's two young guys trying out new stuff in front of a crowd that doesn't know who they are but they impress at the end. Punk playing the spunky babyface is a sight to be seen. So is his haircut which should be a crime. Cabana was fine as the heel. I had to laugh at the announcers saying this show is main event by mae Young and Jake the milkman millman. I want to see that match.

Technically, this was fine wrestling. Both guys looked good and the match wasn't a overbooked mess. However, I just couldn't get into it. Both guys seemed like heels with both using a loaded glove/fist gimmick. It felt very 80's and by 2000 that was just played out. Especially compared to the Memphis stuff at the time. Did OVW really have a heel ref gimmick at the time? Oy vey

[2000-01-29-ECW-Orlando, FL] Mike Awesome vs Little Guido
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in January 2000
Man, I remember this show. I was around 14 at the time and wanted to go so bad but I think it was an 18+ show so I couldn't. Anyways, this match wasn't much but it's interesting to see Guido in a title match. Awesome doing the Spike Dudley throwing into the crowd gimmick was cool. Finish was the usual Mike Awesome finish. -
This is one chapter in one of the biggest feuds in 21st century Puerto Rican wrestling. I mean even to this day they are still feuding in WWC. Carly is very green but still hits basic moves well. Gonzalez is one of the all time greats so he holds this together well. Crowd goes nuts for the basic things like a roll up or Carly hitting the figure four. The finish was typical Puerto Rico with Ray bringing in a SHOVEL to attack Carly and it backfiring. The most interesting thing for me in this match is the crowd. I know IWA was less than a year old around this time but I thought WWC was way down around this time. The crowd was big and going crazy throwing trash. When did that stop? These days, they don't throw much trash and crowds are pretty small except for big shows.

[2000-01-01-TWA-Total Impact TV] American Dragon vs Spanky
Tim Evans replied to Loss's topic in January 2000
First time seeing HBK's TWA. I get a KAW vibe without the weapons and music. I'm surprised how better Spanky was than Dragon here. He had great charisma and seems to hit his moves better. Lots of flying from Spank and Dragon tries to ground him. Funny to hear HBK call the Guillotine a tarantula. Shawn sounded stoned out of his mind on commentary. One of my favorite unknown guys Shooter Shultz runs in for the DQ. Good tv match. These guys would have a better match on MCW tv about 6 months later. -
This is so unlike anything i'm used to watching in CMLL since they are so anti blood these days. Tarzan boy got shit on a lot as a tecnico around this time. so much so that he had to turn heel. I'm not the biggest fan of singles Bucanero but he can go when motivated. This was a good brawl. Bucanero was just relentless in the first fall going after the cut and Satanico was a good second at ringside. Second fall went nuts with Bucanero hitting a gusher and Tarzan getting his heat back. Finish is classic rudo lucha so I'm used to it. Looking forward to seeing more of this feud as I remember it being really good.

Also like Grimmas and Benj, this was around the time I started watching Lucha so I'm familiar with all these guys. Fun low card type match with some good highspots and some awkward stuff too. The first fall featured Violencia and Zumbido trying to out bump each other. Zumbido looked like 1995 Psicosis with the bumps he was taking. It's wild to see Violencia like this compared to how he was just a couple years later with Pierroth. Mr. Mexico is a favorite of mine just for his facials and his look. It's textbook rudo. He's not the best wrestler but he doesn't have to be. Reminds me of Rick rude a lot. Tecnicos were fine with Antifaz looking the best. He's so much smaller here than he was in Monterrey. Good match.

Been continuing my Memphis Championship Wrestling watch from 2000. Up to July 2000 and it truly has turned into WWF developmental. The highlights include the great Reckless Youth vs Steve Regal series. They had 3 matches and all 3 were really good. Saw Regal mention the matches on Twitter recently. Other highlights include a young masked wrestler named the American Dragon and the Fabulous Rocker's "big" brother Spanky. The lead heels of the promotion are K Krush(who is on his way up to the WWF) and the Mean Street Posse. Joey Abs wasn't that bad of a wrestler and Rodney got better than he was in WWF.

1. Focus on the 80's sets and yearbooks. 2. Go to the SCI and attend more shows in South Florida. 3. Cut out wrestling that doesn't interest me( Pretty much stopped watching Puro and AAA. I'm watching less and less of Raw these days. Smackdown/205/Talking Smack is good enough for me). 4. Watch more indies on the Highspots network( Got into AAW and PWX because of the network. Might start watching WXW)

It has to do with the area they ran which is called Michinoku.

2016 to me is the year I branched out in my wrestling viewing. For years I was just a WWE only fan with an admiration for Lucha. This year, I've become a bigger fan of the indies thanks to in most part, the Highspots network. I got into AAW, PWX, PWG and even WXW. For the first time ever, I traveled out of state to see wrestling in Chattanooga for the SCI and Atlanta for AWE. Became fans of guys I saw there and watched matches from other feds with them. Dylan is correct in saying this was the year of the indies. I'm still a fan of NXT and I watch smackdown but my WWE enjoyment viewing seems to be going farther and farther down the older I get. I've also really got into indie lucha with CMLL and AAA having down years. Big fan of caralucha and the other indies. I have hope for powerbomb.tv and they can bring more indie lucha to the masses. Of course, my first love right now in wrestling is Puerto Rico. WWC had a hell of a year with guys like Rey Jr and Jeff Hardy coming in. The puerto rican indie scene is growing too. I have high hopes for 2017.

[1993-08-09-USWA-Mid-South Coliseum] Jerry Lawler vs Mr Perfect
Tim Evans replied to Loss's topic in August 1993
Papa Shango held the unified title in May of 1993, Owen held it in June 1993. Also, Tatanka held it in 1993 too. Now granted, these were only 1-3 week title reigns. Ahmed Johnson and Razor Ramon held the unified title in 1995 for a month each but that was when they weren't running Monday's. -
Live Wrestling: What are you watching, what are you going to watch?
Tim Evans replied to Grimmas's topic in Pro Wrestling
Went to the 2.0 show tonight. It was actually really fun as the card changed completely from what was originally booked. It featured two fun matches in Aaron Epic/Jason cade vs Snoop Strikes/Martin Stone and Joey Ryan/Tessa Blanchard vs Rachel ellering/Darby Allin. First match had some good comedy and wrestling. Stone is just the best and Cade is fine too. Strikes is a student of 2.0 and he's going to be really good in a couple years. I'm not a big fan of Joey ryan or intergender wrestling but this match worked for me. It was legit funny and I dug the blow pop spot. Rest of the show ranged from not bad(Callihan vs Shane Strickland in a 15-minute time limit draw) to really bad(the student matches). This promotion usually does the indie "stars" matches first and then the student matches after the intermission. They are running again on 12/27 so I'll see at least one more show before the end of the year. -
Might be too early to say but what about Cedric Alexander losing to Kota Ibushi as a career making loss? I mean it's one of the reasons he got signed in the first place.
-
How were Enzo and cass not ready to be called up? They are very over on Raw right now. Might be even more over than the New Day. They did all they could do in NXT except win the tag titles. Good show but not in the same league as the past couple. Tag team match was an all timer though. Can't wait to see the Revival on the main roster vs Alpha. I never want to see a Joe vs Nakamura match again much like Cena vs Orton.

Live Wrestling: What are you watching, what are you going to watch?
Tim Evans replied to Grimmas's topic in Pro Wrestling
Last show I went to was Pro Wrestling 2.0 in Winter Park last Tuesday. 2.0 is a wrestling school run by Alex Pourteau and features his students and some local indies guys like Jason Cade, Martin Stone, Santana Garrett,Su Yung and the champ Sami Callihan. Sami faced Aaron epic with Billy Gunn as the ref. It was a good comedy match based on ass man spots. Lots of women wrestling on the show too. Some good, some really awful too. Next show I'll go to is the final NXT tapings of the year on 11/30 at Full sail. Not sure if FIP is running again this year or not. Also, the final 2.0 is the first Tuesday of December so I'll probably go to that. -
At least in Orlando, the Florida Evolve crowds would be better if they stayed in one place and advertised more. Hopefully, the FloSlam money will improve this. I might get Floslam next year but Powerbomb.tv sounds more interesting than this at the moment.

Charlotte has improved a lot on the main roster and is really one of the only true heels in the company. I was one of the biggest Sasha fans around last year when she was finishing up in NXT as she had her character down and was still having good matches. Her babyface run so far has been weak but she is still bringing it in the ring. If I had to choose right now, I'm still picking Sasha. Charlotte's promos are awful and I've still yet to see her have a really great match without Sasha. Sasha's bumps are hard to watch sometimes but I think that's the only way she knows how to work. I remember going to NXT house shows and she was taking crazy bumps vs Bayley and the others. Wish they would turn her heel and maybe they will when Bayley wins at Mania.
