It fits with his gimmick sort of since he brings a pirate flag to the ring. I couldn't figure out why they didn't have TJP do commentary or at least come out to confront the winner after the match.

Wasn't the deal with Hall and Nash's contracts that they were guaranteed to be the highest paid people? I remember at the time Hall was trying to encourage guys to get the biggest contracts they could because he knew it would benefit him too.

Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard
sek69 replied to Lust Hogan's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Judging by the people @'ing Dave on Twitter, Bruce made the claim on his show that Dave's brief time consulting for the WWE was a quid pro quo for positive coverage in the Observer. Dave dismissed it as nonsense, but I wonder if that's what Vince was looking to get out of the deal since Vince would go pretty hard at them at the time (1987). -
The main event was pretty bad, but this CMLL legends show reminds me that Negro Navarro is kind of underrated in the category of "old lucha dudes who can still go".

Also it seems that the WON HOF is fast becoming like the Football HOF where there's becoming an embarrassing backlog in some positions due to the limits of how many can enter at at time. Maybe it's time for some sort of Veteran's Committee to review candidates after a certain time rather than expecting voters to select guys who's careers get farther in the rear view mirror.
-
Yeah, I hate how every discussion of promoters seems to end with "well in the end he went out of business, so he isn't HOF worthy" when that was literally the fate of everyone who wasn't Vince. It seems to be nearly forgotten how huge that early period was for JCP.
-
I can just see the conspiracy theorists now seeing this as Dave putting another roadblock in the path of UK guys getting in the HOF.
-
It is a pretty amazing sociology experiment to see how many people believe nonsense about Dave even when he presents them direct evidence stating otherwise.

TNA was jerking TJP around, unmasking him as Manik then deciding he should go back to being masked when he just wanted to be himself again. He ended up getting his release, and when he announced it on his Twitter Josh had to do a run in all "JUST GO AWAY BRO" to come off like an internet tough guy. It was just a bad look for the company's lead PBP guy and unprofessional as hell.

I'm not super wild about the design for the belt, but it wasn't just another palette swap of the world title so I'm just glad for that. I really dig Metallik and I hope they don't neuter him like they do every other lucha guy, he could be a star if they don't handcuff him. Having said that, I like that TJP won. He deserved a better fate than being stuck as a generic character from a TNA video game. Plus he was treated so shitty on the way out of the company with that toad faced shit Josh Matthews having to get his shots in on Twitter, it was great to see him get his moment.

Shane pulling a power play and ganking the cruisers from Raw would be a great storyline. Also would ally my fears that they'd just be built up to be cannon fodder for Brock on Raw.

New Japan never seems to do much with the guys CMLL sends them. They end up being used as tournament filler and second match guys.

Bryan comes off as a guy incapable of not telling the truth when asked, and people keep asking him if he wants to return so I could see that aspect, It does make the WWE come off looking like complete dickbags to keep a guy who clearly wants to wrestle again in a featured role with a guy calling him a coward for not wrestling again, so who knows what the end game is. Surely they don't put him back in the ring even in a Bret Hart post-stroke capacity with all the head injury litigation, and having him come back just to have a proxy fight for him seems like a letdown based on how they are building.

I figured Mankind sucking up to Vince was just the payoff to all those Uncle Eric promos in ECW.
-
I just watched the "Cane Dewey" promo for the first time in years, and Jesus Christ it's hard to believe that guy is the same Christmas obsessed cornball who's the GM of Raw in 2016.

Didn't see a thread for this week, so here you go. Raw was okay this week, main event match/angle was really great IMO. Has the evil foreign menace ever got such a huge pop for beating up the supposed babyface like Rusev got? I keep going back and forth between feeling bad for Roman and feeling schadenfreude for WWE. He deserves a better fate but the company was so stubborn it's hard to not just say they fucking deserve to have this blow up in their faces. Also Rusev is the greatest.

Here's the difference between Rey and literally everyone else they've tried to make the "next Rey" latino superstar: They let Rey do the moves and style that made him famous, and everyone else from a lucha background has been forced to stop doing what got them over and work a different style. Alberto actually is probably the guy who's had the most success since they've started doing that.

It's not going completely unmentioned, but it really should have more attention how completely ridiculous the Ohio commission comes off here. There wasn't even any pretense of them pretending to care about fighter safety by letting a guy who's previous experience was basically fantasy camping with the Gracies to compete in a professional fight. Sure Mickey Gall wasn't Frank Mir but he at least knew what the fuck he was doing. I'm not mad at Punk, dude wanted to fight and he did and got paid. I'm not even mad at UFC, they wanted some hype for what would have been a dud of a PPV without his name and got some buzz out of it. I know state commissions are historically corrupt, but it seems to set what could be a dangerous precedent to allow weekend warrior types to fight professionally just because they're rich and/or have a name.

I get he wanted to prove a point or something but it's kind of a no win for him. Either he loses and it's "LOLPUNK" everywhere or he wins and it's "well he beat a specially chosen tomato can". Plus any value he might have had popping a buyrate probably went away since he was off injured for so long.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eu6pvS_jSD0 This is a great show building up to WM 3. Not only do we get the build up promos showing Hulk was supposed to team with Andre before the turn we get the original Demolition with Randy Colley, and a six man with Blackjack Mulligan teaming with the US Express (who I thought were gone by this time).

Watching TripleMania XV on AAA's YouTube channel today, and the whole Team Trump deal with Johnny Mundo coming out to "Born in the USA" with video of Trump speeches on the big screen is such a great old school heat seeking gimmick I half expected Lance Russell to be calling the match.

I don't think ZSJ has been awful as much as there's been a lot of guys I've been more impressed with in the tournament. He just comes off as a guy transported from World of Sport, which doesn't seem to fit in a group like this. Plus, yes, Jack Gallagher is basically the same guy with all the Sports Entertainment aspects WWE would want someone to have.
-
He's popular but not nearly as over as he was before. You could argue it's either from people seeing him be less than successful in WWE or CMLL not booking him strongly like they were before when he was Cena-like in his unbeatability levels.
-
I don't see how it's bizarre, none of his matches in the CWC have been setting the world on fire, and not everyone follows Evolve.

I just hope 2K finally gets their shit together when it comes to the community creations. Their servers got crushed the first year they had the rights and now they put a 20 download limit per day on created content. On the Xbox One version of 2K16 you have to try multiple times to get downloads to work properly.
