Best HHH match ever

Best match of the weekend

Randomly picked this match to honor Johnny V, and oh boy I'm glad I did. Where to begin? Well, Johnny Valiant takes an epic ass kicking from Bob, a shine that goes on for 14 MINUTES AND VALIANT DOESN'T REMOVE HIS RING JACKET THE WHOLE TIME! Next, the transition to Valiant on offense is Bob screwing up a hold and accidently knocking himself silly on the ropes. Yes, Valiant doesn't even initiate the transition. I don't think I've ever seen that before. Then we get a decent beatdown on Bob before the All American Boy rallies for the win. Great stooging heel performance by Valiant. RIP "Macho" (as it says on the back of his tights)

Update from the playlist I posted on page 1: Blassie vs Rikidozen from 1962 LA is awesome for those interested. Also, Bockwinkel and Whalen's post match interaction is gold

I kinda feel the same way, or at least I did as the show was going on and immediately after. I mean, it was obviously a great show with multiple great matches, yet I felt kinda underwhelmed after it was over. I've liked other Takeovers more for sure. Thinking about it today I really liked the show and feel more strongly about the matches. The Roddy turn didn't make any sense imo and the ladder and main suffered from excess, but that's the wrestling world we live in today. Maybe I'm burning out a bit on NXT

Oh Missy... Yep, totally love that poster. I remember it being in a copy of WCW magazine I had

Main card could be great, but after being burned two years in a row, I'm avoiding the pre-show this time. Instead, my pal Sean (Shrike02) and I are going to watch a playlist of old school stuff I've put together this morning before the main card starts. Feel free to join in https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV6RCTo_Cd0CxLuBAFyRpGlyK-7DE3oYg Last match is Backlund vs the late Johnny Valiant from The Spectrum

Great show as usual. What a run NXT has been on

Awesome squash match alert: Crusher Blackwell vs Frankie Williams with Vince at his best as well, also from 9/23/78
-
Good match alert: Larry Z and his wonderful moustache vs Stan Stasiak 9/23/78

HUGE card tonight, perhaps the most stacked Takeover yet. Gargano vs Ciampa should be great, Almas vs Black should deliver, ladder match will have crazy heat and could be a ridiculous spotfest clustermess of a match, and tag and women's match should also be good. Can't wait!

They taped a few weeks of TV from the Steel Pier in Atlantic City in the summer of 79. Not sure if it was for a local Atlantic City TV show or if it aired everywhere in the territory. The matches were comnentated by Monsoon years before he became a regular commentator. Cawthon's site also has Bruno commentating solo for one of the tapings. The matches I've seen from the tapings are interesting, with no jobber matches, just matches between pushed guys, plus a midget tag. I remember DiBiase vs Valentine being good. For fans of the late Titans of Wrestling podcast, DiBiase and Andre vs Scicluna and Jerry Valiant was a legendary controversial match, with Parv calling it a classic, Johnny and Pete hating it, and me being in the middle

WWE TV 2nd - 8th April 2018 (Wrestlemania Go Home Shows)

Strategically placed announcement obviously, and perhaps the final piece of the boo Lesnar, cheer Roman puzzle. History may repeat itself 14 years later for Lesnar -

Conrad's new gimmick of saying something away from the mic multiple times per ep is as annoying as hell -
Yeah, TSN broadcast the ESPN show. Not sure about the Winnipeg footage, that was before my time, but I think there was some kind of TSN exclusive wrestling show? Khawk would know
-
I think the announcing was live. Matysik was there in Winnipeg, said he was at ringside, and appeared in the ring after the match

World Cast: A WCCW Review

Episode 30 https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-30 October 2, 1982 (WCCW 41) As the leaves begin to change color and fall off the trees in 1982, the boys find plenty from this episode to discuss, including several new faces in town... -THE Checkmate: Masked and mysterious and possessing a, shall we say, unique offense -The Samoan: A Samoan wrestler from Samoa -John Renesto: By-the-book NWA referee from LA, possibly corrupt In addition, we have a pretty kick ass 6-man tag featuring all the Von Erich boys together, Bugsy in shorts meant for a 10 year old boy, Al Madril easing into the "Dom" role, and Gary Hart taking a shot of wayward Kabuki mist in the eyes World Cast: Remember to show your gratitude for all the hours of podcast goodness by purchasing Pete a beer in New Orleans during Mania weekend! -
The idea behind announcing the next month's card was mostly to entice fans to buy tickets before they left the show. AFAIK, the box office would be opened after Finkel's announcement. It's also the main reason the main event was always mid-show, because then they could announce the main event for next month's card without giving away the finish

At one point in the 70s and early 80s their main TV slot in the New York area was midnight on a Saturday. I think this proves that if you have a hot product with a lot of top talent, the timeslot is irrelevant, the fans will follow

She was married to promoter Billy Wolfe who controlled women's wrestling before. She gained control after divorcing him. Wolfe was not exactly a peach of a person. So he had engendered no loyalty. Moolah wasnt married to Billy Wolfe, that was Mildred Burke. Im hazy on how exactly Moolah conquered the womens circuit. But Moolah was married to Buddy Lee who went on to be a bit of a mogul in country music. Meltzer explains a lot of this in the latest Observer. Basically after Burke and Wolfe split, there was disorder and an opening for a power grab, which Moolah and Buddy Lee did. Eventually, Moolah and Buddy Lee split, he went into country music, leaving Moolah with a pretty good grip on women's wrestling

I usually always go with the Japanese commentary but took the easy route this time. Never again
