  1. Episode #3 http://placetobenation.com/world-cast-a-wccw-review-episode-3/ February 6, 1982 People complain about the Mae Young Classic having bad commentary. Please. It's nothing compared to the nightmare team of Gene Goodson and Armand Hussian from this episode. This is BAD commentary, folks. Pete, Johnny, and Kelly try to ignore it long enough to analyze the action, which features Richard Blood (not one of the great Richard Blood's, but he's alright), Jose Lothario, Big Daddy Bundy, Bugsy McGraw vs. Al Madril in an American title match, Larry Higgins (?), Tony Torrez (???) and El Negro Assassin (?!?!?!?). Sit back and enjoy another waltz across Texas with the boys!
  2. Haha...yeah, any time here or in the past when I forget to properly break for ads I try to find a natural moment to insert them. If you thought this was good, wait until the next show for an almost perfect unplanned ad break
  3. Really enjoyed the first four eps. Sure, not every match was a winner and not every wrestler is a future star, but I was impressed with a lot of the talent and really look forward to the rest of the tourney. JR and Lita were fine. Lita clearly cares a lot about this and I'm fine with a more subdued JR who isn't shouting all the time
  4. Episode #2 http://placetobenation.com/world-cast-a-wccw-review-episode-2/ January 9, 1982 Papa Fritz is Here! The master of the Iron Claw invades the commentary booth and poor Gene Goodson wishes he was back doing ads for North Central Ford in Richardson, TX. Tonight's big main event is Kerry Von Erich vs. The Great Kabuki, and in addition to that Pete, Kelly and Johnny talk about Fritz, Bill Irwin, Armand Hussian, Jose Lothario, Killer Tim Brooks and Captain Frank Dusek. Sit back and enjoy another fun episode of World Cast!
  5. Don't be so sure. Ellsworth interference could lead to Carmella cashing in her briefcase and becoming the first female world champion. Think of the headlines!
  6. I remember Test being as fun to watch as paint dry most of the time, but I haven't seen any of his run since I watched in real time
  7. I was going to comment on the fact that I'm not sure how far back I trust my opinion on favourite/best matches, but the last comment above caught my attention too. Ricky, was it a conscious decision to avoid rewatching stuff? I agonize with myself over whether I should do less rewatching and more brand new to me stuff all the time... Just not enough time to rewatch. Between work, life, new wrestling and other interests, I have to prioritize
  8. Basically, the only time I watch my fave matches is if I'm showing them to someone who hasn't seen them before or I happen to watch one for a podcast I'm watching footage for. Otherwise I'm all about watching stuff I haven't seen before

    NXT talk

Nothing that hasn't been stated before, but NXT is the antithesis of main roster WWE. One hour of TV a week and five big shows well spaced out throughout the year, no bloated nonsense like Mania and Summerslam, titles mean something, wins and loses matter, the roster continually changes so nobody gets stale...in short it's like an old territory and I love it. I'm interested to see where they go with the new additions. I'm sad to see Asuka's run end, and also Roode's, but they have Black, Gargano, Ohno, Strong, Nikki, McIntyre, Lorcan, the ROH faction, plus hopefully more of the UK crew and women from the Mae Young classic. I'm totally looking forward to the rest of the year
  10. I agree that TNA had a bunch of great moments in the early years, but things really, REALLY, fall off a cliff after 2007. I mean 2007 wasn't spectacular but the subsequent years from what I remember are at times as bad as it gets for a national promotion. Where the "Oh, it's TNA" attitude really comes from is the 2008 to 2011 or so period
  11. Episode #1 http://placetobenation.com/world-cast-a-wccw-review-episode-1/ Pete, Kelly and Johnny are back in action with this all-new podcast devoted to a chronological look at WCCW's World Class TV show, as found on the WWE Network. First up is January 2, 1982. There is a different host and different theme music. "Big Daddy" Bundy is wearing jeans and a rope belt, and Kevin Von Erich is wearing wrestling boots. Yes, this isn't the World Class everyone knows and loves quite yet! Sit back and enjoy this journey through a bygone era with the boys, it's going to be a blast!
  12. The match was bad, definitely one of Cena's worst on a big show, and deserves to be dismissed without much thought
  13. Not watching Raw, but it sounds like Cass may have suffered a bad injury during his match with Enzo
  14. Has there been an actual date announced for the "India trip" or is it still just a vague rumor?
  15. Shrike02 and I started the afternoon watching Bruno vs Superstar matches from 77 and then stupidly left the past behind for 3 plus hours. Great main event though
  16. Cesaro destroying the beach ball was a refreshing bit of individuality on a soulless show
  17. Here we are in 2017, where the major WWE shows are more bloated than a mid-70s Yes album. Last night's Takeover was the punk rock alternative, five matches in less than 2 1/2 hours. That's a sensible length. To say the least, I haven't been a fan of the super long shows of the last few years. Looking at the card, a few matches should be very good, and the main should be great. But is the damage to the soul worth it to get there? Anyway, I'm watching with a buddy and have plenty of beer in the fridge, with a back up plan of watching old school wrestling on youtube if we lose interest. I'll be tuning in for the main and Jinder vs Nak at the very least
  18. Great show! Three awesome matches and two very good ones. Main event was probably the least of the five, but the post-match angle was cool. Both the wrestling and storytelling were strong throughout. They did a great job of (presumably) ending a few NXT runs (I'm thinking there will be a call up of talent post-Summerslam--AOP, Roode, maybe Moon and Itami) and launching an ROH invasion of new stars to take their place. Great, hot crowd too. Asuka vs Moon was match of the night for me. ****1/2
  19. Yeah, I was wondering why Bell would be so limited when my friend has the Network through either Telus or Shaw (we live in BC) and he has full access to the on demand footage online
  20. I think the whole idea is to get people to subscribe and realize they can't live without the service once the free period ends. Which enough people do to make it a worthwhile promotion
  21. This is real and not an Onion article? Dear Lord
  22. I have a VPN, get the US Network and watch on a Roku. I got it before it was available in Canada. My wife and I cut the chord around that time and I'm not going to go back just to be able to get the Network. It costs me a few dollars more per month having to pay in USD, but it's worth it for the convenience
  23. I do agree that the TNA thread can probably be closed finally
