  1. Shrike02 and I started the afternoon watching Bruno vs Superstar matches from 77 and then stupidly left the past behind for 3 plus hours. Great main event though
  2. Cesaro destroying the beach ball was a refreshing bit of individuality on a soulless show
  3. Here we are in 2017, where the major WWE shows are more bloated than a mid-70s Yes album. Last night's Takeover was the punk rock alternative, five matches in less than 2 1/2 hours. That's a sensible length. To say the least, I haven't been a fan of the super long shows of the last few years. Looking at the card, a few matches should be very good, and the main should be great. But is the damage to the soul worth it to get there? Anyway, I'm watching with a buddy and have plenty of beer in the fridge, with a back up plan of watching old school wrestling on youtube if we lose interest. I'll be tuning in for the main and Jinder vs Nak at the very least
  4. Great show! Three awesome matches and two very good ones. Main event was probably the least of the five, but the post-match angle was cool. Both the wrestling and storytelling were strong throughout. They did a great job of (presumably) ending a few NXT runs (I'm thinking there will be a call up of talent post-Summerslam--AOP, Roode, maybe Moon and Itami) and launching an ROH invasion of new stars to take their place. Great, hot crowd too. Asuka vs Moon was match of the night for me. ****1/2
  5. Yeah, I was wondering why Bell would be so limited when my friend has the Network through either Telus or Shaw (we live in BC) and he has full access to the on demand footage online
  6. I think the whole idea is to get people to subscribe and realize they can't live without the service once the free period ends. Which enough people do to make it a worthwhile promotion
  7. This is real and not an Onion article? Dear Lord
  8. I have a VPN, get the US Network and watch on a Roku. I got it before it was available in Canada. My wife and I cut the chord around that time and I'm not going to go back just to be able to get the Network. It costs me a few dollars more per month having to pay in USD, but it's worth it for the convenience
  9. I do agree that the TNA thread can probably be closed finally
  10. He was scheduled to wrestle Landel in Philly just before he died in 92
  11. Buddy teamed with Snuka in Philly against Albano and Ray Stevens 11/25/82 and was shockingly good considering he was I believe 62 years old. It's on youtube, or was the last time I checked
  12. Everyone should watch Bruno vs Graham from 8/1/77 MSG, a glorious bloodbath with Monsoon as ref. Maybe it will dispel some negative stereotypes about both men, for those unenlightened
  13. Harts vs Killer Bees is the only thing close for me. Gotta be Strike Force vs Islanders
  14. I understand being skeptical, I was myself when this project was announced considring the less satisfying aspects of the GWE. But the analysis on these pods, including the pod blasts, has been top notch. Really, a good archive of opinion that you won't find elsewhere
  15. 3/4 Titans reunion on the latest For Your Consideration, baby! http://placetobenation.com/for-your-consideration-8-the-clash-of-the-titans/
  16. Hogan coming out to Eye of the Tiger is always awesome
  17. Yeah it's an all-time classic NWA title match
  18. Great match. Nothing mind blowing, but this is presumably the first of multiple encounters in the next year or so between them, so things will only get more epic. That said, I really liked this match. I thought it had a good flow with nothing wasted. The closing stretch was well done and the crowd was fully invested. No tricks, just an old fashioned "scientific match" with a clean as a sheet finish. The bump at the end was nasty and could've been disastrous. Instead, it added a dose of "real" to the match, the unplanned kind, and fortunately for everyone involved served to make things feel more epic and not tragic. Excited to see what these guys will do against each other in the future. ***1/2
  19. I think they're just playing on the rumours out there and wouldn't read too much into it.
  20. I have no opinion of the E and C show because I only caught a tiny bit of it, but I have to say I'm totally fine with Network belt-tightening in regards to original content as long as it means more uploads of cost-free old school footage
  21. Are we sure this is from Jan 1, 1980? Hogan was working for WWF at that time and actually wrestled a TV taping in Allentown on that date. I think this may actually be from late 1981
  22. Party like it's 1999!
