  1. I'm not the biggest fan of joshi (and maybe that plays into this) but I really liked this match.
  2. The cane shot to the back of Tommy's head was pretty good.
  3. I do believe he's being genuine, but I can't hear McMahon being gracious without thinking he's being condescending.
  4. From the 10/31/94 WON: "It was no secret going in that after Hogan beat Flair, the company's No. 1 priority would be the post-match angle to establish John Tenta, now called Avalanche, as the new monster heel threat to be fed to Hogan. There would be no time to give Flair the send-off that he deserves." He even mentioned the plan was for Flair to return in March to team with Hogan, so he didn't I don't think anyone in the business bought Flair retiring in the slightest, so why bother giving him a big send-off? Yes, it would have made it look authentic, but they had to bow to whatever Hogan wanted.
  5. I also got Piper vibes from him during this ECW run.
  6. Between the facepaint and the druggy behaviour, Sherri is giving me serious Jeff Hardy vibes here.
  7. I think Landell was still around at this point, but they had lost a "loser must split up" match to the Moondogs.
  8. From the WON write-up of it, it sounds like they convinced Corluzzo that it would just be a regional angle and he should just strip him of the title and then they could give the belt to Benoit like they always wanted to.
  9. His back is just tore apart. It's funny when people say "It sounds/looks bad but it doesn't really hurt." Looks like it hurt to me. And again, Woman is great here. This feud makes me want to watch some old Florida with her in it.
  10. I watched this the first time around 97 I think and I remember not being too impressed with it, but I just rewatched it and it wasn't too bad, given the restrictions (ie: no blood) they had at the time. The commentary was minimal which was probably for the best
  11. Seeing matches like this reminds me of how good Nash could be when he wanted to. Yes, he got lazy later in his career, but why wouldn't he? I think it's more important that when he was young and still in good shape and about to receive a big push, he tried really hard to do his best.
  12. It's funny how they reprimanded the crowd for throwing the chairs (as they should have) but then they showed that footage every chance they got. It's a wonder it wasn't repeated more often by copycats.
  13. Luger is so good at the "will he turn/won't he turn" angles he's done about a million of them over the years. The Tatanka stuff is a good added bonus though. I didn't see it coming as a kid. Not sure if that says more about my naivety or what though lol
  14. He mentioned Gorgeous George as a former NWA champion so CLEARLY he's done his homework.
  15. This is classic WCW because the plaques are pretty nice. But then, I guess The Assassin didn't show his plaque because they accidentally made 2 Harley Race ones and he didn't get one made for him.
  16. I remember Meltzer saying that Tenta wasn't crazy about the idea of this match, due to his legit past. That may be why they gave him the win.
  17. Pretty good "street fight" clothes from a bunch of guys who always dress like they're in a street fight.
  18. I just read in the 2/14/94 issue that Elizabeth did commentary on ESPN speedboat racing.
  19. Also, I mean...he leaves the contract with Rude and walks off. Rude could have ripped it up and be done with it. There's got to be an easier way to make a match.
  20. If Brock was coming back to work 200 shows a year, then yes this was unquestionably one of the worst decisions ever. But the guy's already gone again for an indefinite amount of time. I really think WWE is just hedging their bets with Lesnar. They want to use his name to bring some more eyeballs to their product, they don't want to hand him the keys to the company by letting him work twice a year, destroying their top guys. That doesn't help anyone, except Brock who is already walking away with $5 million, so why should he care? We all already know that Brock could "really" beat Cena...or Sheamus...or Bryan or whoever. They need to establish an air of unpredictably to the Brock character that maybe he won't win every match. This is especially important if they really are planning on building Wrestlemania around him. If he beats Cena and 1 or 2 other top guys between now and then, who gives a fuck about who he would wrestle (bar, maybe the Undertaker)? And besides all that, there's the elephant in the room that this is a guy who will flake out on you in half a second. His wife probably doesn't love the business, she's had well-documented problems with you in the past, they've got several children...numerous reasons for him to not want to be there for too long.
  21. I love this match. I'm a sucker for good intentional (ok...and occasionally unintentional) comedy in a match and when it's enveloped by good work, it's even better.
