  1. We get our first WWF match of the set and it's a very good one. Does feel like WWF probably left a lot of potential good PPV matches off the cards. One of the better Powers of Pain matches I've seen. Normally in the WWF with the size differences you think Rockers would be big underdogs. But they do really well agains the bigger team with all their tag moves. Marty takes a beating for a while and then when he can make the tag he goes to neutral corners instead. I figure that's it for them but he finally makes tag to Michaels. Shawn ends up getting clipped by Fuji on the outside and takes the pin. Felt like the Rockers were going to win this one after the tag to Michaels but the heels need to cheat to squeak out the victory.
  2. Interesting to see Misawa at this stage as he hasn't become the guy yet. He's at the mercy of Tenryu at times with getting his masked ripped but Jumbo keeps coming to his aid which is something in itself. Cool finish with Tenryu doing in his own partner by mistake which he is in a submission. Both Tenyru and Misawa enter the ring and Tenryu lays him out with a lariat. I like how Tenryu is all baffled about what happened and then just takes off on his tag partner.
  3. Way to go fans getting the Rumble on Viewers Choice. Your voices have been heard. Couldn't have done it without you. Call your local cable company to order now. I can remember having to do that back in the day. Now you click a couple buttons your remote.
  4. Sullivan on commentary mentions how he and Cactus like to discuss art and Picasso. Ross asks if he is the guy who lost his ear. No, that would be van Gogh but maybe Ross was really referring to the future of one Cactus Jack. Sullivan is a big fan of the way Cactus delivers additional pain to his opponent.
  5. Cornette thinks a Flair/Sting match won't be all that legit since they are friends now and Luger would be a better opponent. Woman, who is looking good, comes out and makes an offer to Flair and the Horsemen. Flair politely declines but thinks woman is awesome baby. Cornette, with sweaty brow, sleazes it up after making his own offer to Woman.
  6. Ahhh, this was fun and everyone involved seemed to have enjoy that it was part of the show. I can only imagine the litigation this day in age for hurting some kid in the audience feelings. I love Lawler running down the live audience.
  7. Champion's hair is ghastly. He should do his promos with a laser background like those awful yearbook photos. Austin is hard up for cash and bails on the match when getting bought off by King Cobra for his spot. Cobra is awkward on the mic. Lawler goes all "ax you" on him. Lawler takes a shot at Dundee size at the end.
  8. Two Saved by the Bell references on disc 1 already! This was a lot of fun with Lawler having these phone conversations with some celebrities. Dave Brown does a good job of playing along through the whole thing. Lawler is champion again and is in no rush to defend the title until the end of 30 days. Soultaker, Dirty White Boy and Girl come out as they are going to be tag partners of Lawler. DWB does his promo with his back to the camera. Lawler feels like Dutch has some hygiene issues.
  9. Travis is not much of a singer but he does really get into the whole dancing and moving of the gimmick.
  10. Ross refers to Muta as "Oriental Guy" and whether there are "any good looking Orientals". Wait, is this part of the Jim Ross drink a shot game? I feel out of place with this yearbook so far because the 90's sets were around each other but just forgetting all about the 80's and that Arn had just recently left WWF. The crowd seem happy have him back as their are solidly behind him. Muta with the Cattle Mutilation! Arn wins the TV title in a good match. No Horsemen got involved to back him up which was kind of surprising.
  11. Yeah, I like the presentation of them dressed up really nice and trying to have a civil conversation with each other. I would not have thought of Funk having his own interview segment. It's not Hearbreak Hotel but he does have some fancy neon lights. Match list seems to indicate more of these to come which is good. Sullivan does try to push buttons a bit with taking shots at Dory. Terry shows some restraint but ends the segment before things go further.
  12. Excellent match with both guys equally delivering the goods. At one point Eaton is on the apron and Flair hits him with a stiff chop. Eaton just drops right off the apron to the floor. No bracing himself or anything. The backdrop later in the match was pretty crazy too. Loved the finish where Lane comes out to help Cornette distract the ref while Flair has the figure four on. Cornette tries to sneak in the ring and Flair was totally ready for it. Flair had to be like "You're going to try that stuff on me of all people". Flair as a face really worked here.
  13. Count me as a big Macho King and Queen Sherri fan. I like when Sherri stands on the wrong side of Okerlund by mistake, Macho waves the scepter at her to get out of the way.
  14. Sting is excited to be a member of the Horsemen. He's happy to hear all these compliments from Flair but not sure why he's getting them. Hmmm. He already doesn't seem to fit in with the group.
  15. Lame stream PWI being biased towards WCW! I demand a recount. Well I'm pretty sure Flair probably deserved his award. He does well by putting over the award as being just being the World Championship as was voted by the fans.
  16. Everyone is dressed down wearing just their wrestling gear and tshirts. They are happy to announce Sting as new member of the Horsemen. WCW from 90 is new to me so we will see how this goes.
  17. Nitron looked pretty weak getting knocked down so easy. Sullivan pounds away on Norman and rubs the painting all over his face. Nice touch there which Norman's face being all red. I liked Lance at the end.
  18. And I was under the assumption that Lawler was always a face in Memphis until later on. Great story with some really funny moments. King Cobra's name and the Outhouse were both great but I like the Korea War one too. I am very much looking forward to more Lawler.
  19. Oh, Dustin said funky. Thought it was something else. Lawler, in studio, was really talking down Dustin here. Pretending to be falling asleep. Gary's haircare takes away some of my attention at first but he delivers a good promo.
  20. Fantastic to see all of this bunch together on stage. Everyone brags about their wrestler winning the Rumble. Really playing up the everyman for himself aspect. I think The Brain has the best argument as he has the Tag Champs and Rick Rude. Heenan suggest Sherri get some face makeup. Well that was just mean Bobby.
  21. Rick Martel is dressed up as Inspector Gadget for Halloween but it's January and that's really his model fashion sense. He mouths off to Beefcake who joins up at the stage where Rick has already taken off his trenchcoat. Didn't realize these guys feuded. Anyways Beefcake cuts up poor Rick's coat and stomps on his hat. Too bad Martel didn't have Go Go Gadget Arrogance to even the odds.
  22. Completely didn't recognize Hokuto here as missed the introductions at the beginning. The crowd was the first thing I noticed here as they are very vocal and it is mostly young females screaming and chanting. A difference compared to the other matches so far where crowds were quiet in my opinion. Really slow to get into this one. Not a whole lot of flash but I can agree the effectiveness of the sleeper/choke as it becomes a battle between the two teams to see who can put away the other with it. Yamada and Mita seemed overmatched at times but showed a lot of spirit.
  23. Yet to see the 80's AJPW set so went into this cold. Still really enjoyed this match though. Fantastics did a bunch of tag team moves. Kawada goes for a suplex at one point but one Fantastic saves the other and they hit Kawada with a well timed double drop kick. Rogers climbs to the top rope at one point and it almost seems like Fulton distracted him as he loses his balance off the top and does a hopeless somersault into the ring. The crowd's response to this is probably their most vocal moment. Later though Fulton and Rogers combine for a rocket launcher type splash where Rogers gets some pretty good distance. Fulton got a really good looking/sounding punch in on Kawada. We get some use of chairs and the increase in aggression favors Kawada & Fuyuki towards the end of match.
  24. We get to see the underneath of the ring which seems to be built like a fortress. Guess there wasn't enough left in the budget for the ring skirt. This was below the previous match from set. Guerreros do some double team moves in the first fall to get a pin and submission. Ref goes with it so why not. I haven't seen much of Mando but think I enjoy him more as a face. Late in the match Mando puts on a Santo mask and attacks Blue Demon. Guerrero bails and Demon isn't too pleased with he sees the real Santo in the ring. Not sure how often this trickery is done in Lucha but I liked it.
  25. Thought everyone matched up well early in the bout. Casas looking really clean with the short hair. Asai fit in pretty well though with only one minor mess up. Crowd seemed quiet to me but it could have been how they were mic'd. Guerrera is such a nice guy with his mid match handshakes and hugs. Got a bit confused when everyone was in the ring arguing with the refs as thought match was over. Pretty good start to things.
