Swagger with Zeb may generate "more" coverage. But it will be negative coverage that doesn't add a dime to the show's bottom line. Henry is the hottest, freshest heel on the roster and a better fit vs. ADR than even Punk would be at this point.

Funk vs. Flair, GAB '89.

The GOAT show and '96 Yearbook discussion were probably 2 of my favorites. Would love some more that are similarly broad.

Great call on Hall. Never really shined at all in WCW as I'm not sure you could point to more than few above average outings, much less anything truly memorable in the ring.

[1992-02-01-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler, Austin Idol and the Moondogs
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in February 1992
The Moondogs attack Lawler in the studio which brings out Jarrett, Fuller and eventually Austin Idol in his sunglasses and with a suitcase, which is of course one of the weapons used here. Idol's promo afterwards talks about the dogs messing with his plane and accusing them of premeditated, attempted murder. Somehow this doesn't feel as absurd here as it would in just about any other promotion.- 10 replies

I don't think I could ever grow tired of Embry promos. What a piece of work. -

The Moondogs destroy a couple jobbers and Richard Lee is sporting a nasty scar from the fireball. More awesome Memphis.- 10 replies

[1992-02-01-WWF-Superstars] Funeral Parlor: Sensational Sherri
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in February 1992
Sherri's makeup is ridiculous and you can't accuse her of not putting her all into the role. 12 year old me would probably pay $1.99 a minute for this. -
[1992-02-01-WWF-Superstars] Papa Shango vignette
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in February 1992
Man it would've been something to see Butch Reed try and make this work. This felt like the trailer for a really, really bad Tarantino movie. -
Love the layout with the champ center stage and the top 5 contenders seated across two tables. I wouldn't mind this kind of old school set up more often. We're probably well past it but its got more of a BCS / March Madness feel to it than something out of a comic. It also puts over the Mania title match as a big deal. The highlights after Flair & crew walked out were Sid's faces when he wasn't named top contender and Savage's over the top hand motions / gestures as he spoke. Just classic.

[1992-01-31-WWF-MSG, NY] Bret Hart vs The Undertaker
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
The following month I'd be at MSG for my first wrestling show. I was looking forward to seeing the LOD, Flair, Hogan, Savage, etc. Ended up with a big battle royal and no LOD. Before the show, I overheard some people talking about how the LOD dropped the tag titles to the Natural Disasters but it wasn't on tv yet. I may have been 11 but I wasn't about to just move on from that. I ask where this info came from and the guy shows me his copy of the Torch, which lead to a subscription there, which eventually lead to the WON, then online, and here we are about 21 years later. Good times. Interesting to see Bret work with this version of UT, and he did a damn good job of making this passable given Taker's gimmick at the time. You saw flashes of what Taker could pull of here but they weren't ready for him to work that way just yet. **1/2- 13 replies

Cien Caras is a dead ringer for Mark Cuban. Its remarkable. He's also got great presence and performs admirably in his role as Fuerza's second, even if Konnan isn't up to the task. Liked the submissions, liked the crazy plancha in the 3rd fall. Would've liked a finish but fun lucha nonetheless. *** 1/2

[1992-01-28-AJPW-New Year's Giant Series] Jumbo Tsuruta vs Stan Hansen
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
I'd completely forgotten this was a title change and thus popped pretty big for the finish. It may not be at the level of TC matches that would follow during Misawa's reign, but this was still Jumbo & Hansen doing their thing and that is always good. Hansen sold Jumbo's work on the lariat arm very well while withstanding all of Jumbo's textbook offense. Jumbo gets to kick out of one lariat before the second puts him away. ***3/4- 12 replies

Villano's matwork and submissions early looked nice. Great finish with the missed senton and work on the back leading to the stoppage. ***1/4

Hot opening with Kobashi & Kikuchi jumping Jumbo & Taue. Kikuchi really lived up to his punching bag role in this one, taking a ton of abuse including some stiff kicks & knees from Jumbo. They even let him kick out of a power bomb before dropping the fall to a back suplex. Run of the mill **** effort from AJ.

[1992-01-25-WCW-Saturday Night] Arn Anderson vs Dustin Rhodes
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
Not as good as their match at the beginning of the year but that's asking a lot. Loved Arn faking the knee injury to set up a DDT when the time was right. One spot you don't see often enough that I love -- Dustin going to the top, Arn was out of the way and rather than forcing something awkward, Dustin changes his strategy, comes down and applies a sleeper. The explanation about Windham not being ringside to guard against DA interference made sense, but promoting an Omni show on a national telecast like it was a PPV did not. At this time, I kind of assumed the Omni was a big deal like MSG and took for granted that it'd be promoted nationwide. That's obviously not the case and comes off really minor league. ***- 9 replies

[1992-01-25-USWA-TV] Strap battle royal / Interview: Eric Embry
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
Loved the spot with Embry pulling the strap down, then thinking better of it and pulling it back up. Clips of the match are followed by an Embry promo. He's such a natural and terrific heel who you can't help but hate. Just an utter slimeball. -
[1992-01-25-USWA-TV] Jeff Jarrett & Jerry Lawler vs The Moondogs
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
This is Memphis running up the score as it seals the deal for most entertaining promotion in January 1992. All out craziness with tons of weapons and brawling including on top of a stiff looking table. Juicing everywhere, chairs everywhere, and a Lawler fireball at Richard Lee as well. Love it. Its just too bad this is all we have of it.- 13 replies

Standard, stellar 6 min from the best in the world. Pretty neat to see Misawa sell and work as FIP for such an extended run. For some reason I didn't think Taue debuted the nodowa until May, but he clearly used it here after a power bomb to finish off Kobashi. Rewatching much of AJ from this era its crazy how much I overlooked Taue. Much of my first run through these matches was influenced by what I read in the WON and elsewhere so I naturally looked for what Misawa/Kawada/Kobashi were putting out there, but Taue was so different and great in his own right that his stuff feels fresher this time around. ****

Sting and Steamer showed great chemistry here as a babyface team. The heat for Rude is just off the charts, which is typical for him at the time but it seems to have been forgotten a bit. The post-match beatdown on Steamboat was awesome. ***

Awful. You can put up with a lot of trash from CT over the years because it would be well produced and look professional. That is not the case here, so instead of going along with the show you're sitting there thinking about terrible something is and it completely takes you out of the show. Why even bother?
