Oh ok cheers goc. Hope they don't bait and switch me on the Rollins statue.
-
Can you explain what this is about?
-
Rollins looked so much better in white. Had a HBK vibe going on. Like a proper star. I enjoyed Summerslam quite a bit although I was fatigued by the end of the Rollins/Cena match. The tag title match was the best thing all weekend (I need to rewatch Sasha/Bayley). It seems the screwy finishes didn't bother me half as much as some here but I guess that's down to my lack of investment in the product right now.

Simon Gotch is fucking awesome.

Three great choices and the same picks that I'll put at the head of the joshi pack. I'll possibly rate them above the All Japan guys too now I think about it.

Ambrose and Yumi Ikeshita are two favourites with just enough great performances to make a bottom 10 spot. Dean Allmark will probably be amongst them due to sentimental reasons and Britishness. Mocho Cota will be sky high if I enjoy his nineties work like his 80s. Chigusa Nagayo is top 12 bound. Hokuto's got the top 5 locked up. Anyone else see Vader in their top ten? I thought I'd be the high voter on Shawn but Redman put that to bed.

Ziggler is a guy that gets better reactions when he's on the chase, up against the odds. We saw this with his recent Int title run and even his world title run where he got nowhere near the same reaction not working as an underdog. After doing so well with him for so long they monumentally Fucked Up Reigns at the rumble. At the same time I've no doubt his cooling off was brought on by fans continuing to cry about his push. I love Ambrose but my gut tells me he's a guy that performs to his push. A company willing to take risks would have pulled the trigger on him last year when he was hot. It's a cheap way out but I really think a heel turn could do wonders for him. The company clearly see something in him and its laughable to suggest he's dead. The thing that hurts all this guys is ideas. Creative struggles to come up with them let alone come up with good ones. I'm certain Ryback, Regins, Ambrose etc could still be legit stars with enough effort and (as Loss has mentioned) self canonization. The way they utilize the part time guys is another thing that has hurt the roster in the long run. Actually, fuck 'em. Just give me a steady Titus push to the toppermost.

Not much of interest on this card for me. I predict Cesaro beats Owens and (fingers crossed) Ambrose heel turn. Grumpy old men and Raw rematch no.5932 I couldn't give a shit about.

Johnny calling Baba awful makes me sad.

That's a bit harsh. Rollins is overexposed and overrated but he's a perfectly good sniveling heel prick given the right setting/editing. Del Rio has always been like watching paint dry.

Often forgotten periods of a wrestlers career...

Cowboy Bret Hart! Wasn't that . . . awkward. He generally sucked then. The February 82 match with Tiger Mask is one of the most boring matches I've seen. -
I love the bubblegum trash of Sherri's version as well but nothing touches HBK. Shawn's favourite subject is Shawn so hand the cocky bastard a mic and leave him to it. There's no one better for the job. And that voice . . So conceited, macho, bombastic - it's perfect foil for the chugging boogie sleaze of the music. Such a vital piece to the overall act. That gruffness, that swagger. THAT guitar solo . . . Fucking love it.

Miz has been on good form since he returned with the Hollywood heel gimmick. I think the Sandow stunt double act got people so excited that the Miz's work went under the radar.

Welcome to wrestling. Enjoy the ride, it goes deep.

Why were two ugly ass hicks like the RNR's so over with teenage girls? Selling. It's another tool to build a connection.

Far as I'm aware WWE never push HBK as an all time great in terms of star power but more as an all time great performer.

Admittedly I usually skip Stardust, but that was one of the best Cody interviews I've seen. Even when he went a bit American dweeeem it didn't sound ridiculous. Although I can see why some would hate the 'in our business' stuff.

Don't usually follow NXT. But because I'm a soppy git at heart I had to tune in to see the Bayley fan interaction. Heart warming, organic little moments like that are sorely missed in jaded old wrestling. Full Sail is full of pillocks. NXT would be such a better show with more kid Bayley fans. The match with Charlotte was fine. Liked the counter sequence into the first Bayley-to-back suplex. She should cut out them running elbows to the corner, they look terrible. I don't get Mojo Rawley. What is he supposed to be, a coked up frat boy? What's there to like about this idiot? Putting him in a tag team was a good idea. I might be the only person to say this anywhere ever but Scott Dawson is really good. He was surrounded by shit so I might be overestimating but he was the glue that held the Mojo/Ryder tag match together. He's like some little Arn/Tully hybrid. Seems like he could be a really useful hand for NXT. Several of the problems in the 'whats wrong with WWE' thread were addressed in this show. I really liked the Owens empty arena interview where he stressed the importance of regaining the belt for his bank balance. This was fucking great and a highlight of tv this week. One of the most genuinely funny things I've seen from WWE in a long time.

Damn, I misread this as being a re-up of their match from earlier in the year. This felt like by the numbers Satomura which is to say it was decent but nothing to get excited over. Hojo strikes me as a typical modern joshi worker in that she's pretty, fairly bland and inoffensive. She played her part by bringing the crowd into it and hitting some nice double handed chops. That first spinning back hand chop she hit was a thing of beauty. There was a lot of sloppiness from her though, especially with the roll ups. To be fair it looked like Meiko knocked her loopy with them nasty unprotected kicks towards the end. I loved Satomura getting pissed and running after Hojo back through the crowd only to kick herself into the post. The ending was cool but it felt like it deflated the crowd. It's been years since I've seen such a strong looking attendance for a joshi show. I know sod all about Stardom booking but it felt like the wrong move in this instance. As for Satomura, she can still go but she doesn't have the charisma of some of the other working vets (Ozaki, Shimoda, Nagashima etc.) to keep me interested in her working lesser opponents. She does seem to turn up a couple of times a year in awesome matches though. I'm still on the fence.

It's better than Uhaa Nation.

Agree with Inoki, Chigusa and Hokuto who I madly forgot about. I'm softer on Inoki than most because of his innate charisma. His chin alone is a Big Event. Chigusa was superb at playing to the rafters and beyond. The atmosphere she generated felt less like a battle between rivals and more like a match as existential threat. Hokuto Is God.

Awesome. Watching after work.
