in fairness, billy gunn seems to be one of the most respected trainers and he's not a heck of a lot more accomplished. worse in the ring, too. much more important than demott's wrestling career are his abuse of trainees and apparent failure to develop raw talent. Oh I agree with you Demott should be held accountable for his actions and his victims should receive compensation from the WWE. However that does not explain how Demott got the job as trainer , when they were much better choices availble to the WWE. I

Demott is a journeyman . He can teach raw talent the basics . The fact is he never drew money and is not a main event talent.

Wrestling was a joke long before Vince was on the scene. I love the stuff, but realistically, that's true. I'll nominate Michael Hayes. A good ol' boy racist who thinks he's not, and has probably damaged multiple careers thus. Wrestling was not a joke to me or alot of other people before McMahon took over the WWF. People in the South loved wrestling , it was part of our lives . . Nobody was dropping their pants on TV and having other adults kiss their ass. or committing their wife to an insane aslyum Wresting was presented as a sport , not as The WWF/ E is the joke , not pro wrestling.

Not really on topic. NXT has guys like Feral Deviit, El Generico , Kevin Steen , Kenta and PAC under contract. These guys have about 60 years experience with NJPW , NOAH , ROH and DG . How much training do they need ?
-
Bill DeMott is a nut job who should be fired . All of his victims should sue this clown and the WWE. Why is DeMott even a trainer to begin with ? He the Laughing Man and Crash for god's sake. This guy never drew a dime , yet he is supposed to train future main eventers . I guess Ricky Steamboat was not available.

This one is easy it is Vince MaMahon. This clown has ruined wrestling. He destroyed the territories and turned wrestling into a joke. He gave us Black Saturday , bought Don Owens TV out of under him . turned the wresters into comic book characters , hired Kevin Dunn , hired comedy and soap writers to book wrestling , threats the talent like trash , the Owen Hart tragedy and could go on for days listing his sins.. He is the father of sports entertainment that fact alone makes him the winner.. Also is sick and twisted storylines are just of the bottom of the barrel. If it wasn't for NJPW , NOAH and ROH and would quit watching wrestling. I know a lot of people enjoy his product , but I think it is trash. Any talent that goes to work for that man is trading their self respect for money .Just my feelings.

ROH 13th Anniversary Show... Live as it happens
Memphis Mark replied to goodhelmet's topic in Pro Wrestling
Sydal and Delirious are boys , they both started in St . Louis together. I guess Sydal's role will be whatever he wants since the booker is his best friend and he is somewhat of a draw . I really think he just wants to work and have good matches at this stage of his carreer. Sydal has been out for a couple of years with a foot injury , he is just starting to return to form. -
Is Gabe really upset that Trent signed with NJPW ? Which also means stateside ROH bookings for Trent . I cannot believe that Gabe would get upset about any talent leaving WWNLive for ROH or NJPW . I wonder if he really thinks that his company can compete with Sinclair Broadcasting ? Sometimes I think these indy wrestling owners leave in a dream world. A days work for a days pay is all anyone can for in the real world.

ROH 13th Anniversary Show... Live as it happens

In all fairness Ciampa substained a rib injury during the main event . No word on how bad it is or how long Ciampa will be out of action. Ciampa inabilty to finish the match may have led to the screwed up finish . However I do agree the main event was over booked. -
Jerry Lawler - Any Outside of the Ring Shadiness?
Memphis Mark replied to Smack2k's topic in Pro Wrestling
Easy . He did it all while he was on the clock. Tate was a patrolman . His beat was a crime ridden area . Things develop over time. They are are arresting Memphis cops on a rountine basis .. The Memphis IA department stays busy . Also he did not run the strip clun , he just used the club's strippers as " escorts ". -
No way . Jeff is the typical promoter son . An 18 year kid pushed to the moon by his father . Jerry Jarrett , like a lot of dad's , was blinded by love for his son . As some who live in Memphis I can tell you Jeff Jarrett never drew a dime. It was all Lawler , Dundee , Mantell , Buddy Landall , Tommy Rich and Austin Idol during the late 80's. The fans knew that Jeff did not earn his spot , it was given to him by his daddy . It was amazing to watch Jerry Jarrett fall into the same trap as Nick Gulas . That said Jeff did vastly improve and found his niche as a tag wrestler / secondary single title holder in the WWF . Jeff being the headliner in WCW and TNA was just a little beyond his abilities . Works hard but solid midcarder at best

Jerry Lawler - Any Outside of the Ring Shadiness?
Memphis Mark replied to Smack2k's topic in Pro Wrestling
Lawler was a regular at Memphis strip clubs . The King bragged to a dancer tha he had $ 250,000 ihidden in his jukebox. The dancer was a girl friend / employee of a man named Tate . Mister Tate ran a criminal empire in a North memphis slum called Nutbush . Tate main business was vice. He would run hookers to the Northern Miss casinos . Tate was going to break in Lawler's home and steal the $ 250 k . Somebody squealed on Tate , . He was arrested and got 14 years. Tate was an officer on the Memphis Police Department . His father , Jerry Tate , was the long time anchorman on the local CBS station. Jerry Tate left Memphis in disgrace and retired to Florida. Jerry Lawler denies every telling anyone there was $ 250 , 000 in the jukebox. . Is this consider shady ? -
Wrestler whom found footage would excite you the most
Memphis Mark replied to thebrainfollower's topic in Pro Wrestling
I would love to have more Southeastern footage. I am refering to Ron Fuller 's promotion , not other companies using the Southeastern name. I have some footage from the early in mid 80 ;s. However there is almost no footage from 74 to 80. This run included talent like Bob Armstrong , The Monogolian Stomper, Jimmy Golden, Stan Lane, . Brad Armstrong , Ron Bass, Mr, Saito , Jerry Stubbs a.k.a. Mr. Olympia , Arn Anderson , The Sheepherders , Ron Garvin , Bob Roop , Jacques Rougeau , Joe LeDuc, Paul Orndorff, Ken Lucas The Fuller Brothers and Midnight Express, INc. and many others. The Southeastern Midnight Express members were Dennis Condry , Randy Rose , Norvell Austin , Wayne Farris and Ron Starr . Plus The Stomper and Ric Harris were in Midnight Express , Inc. There is a handful of shows fron 80 to 84 that were saved , alot of 85 to 89 were taped by fans, however this was arter the glory years.I think Ron Fuller taped over everything , so most of the territory is lost to time . -
I understood that the fans at first few tapings were actually extras not wrestling fans. You pick ed up on their phoney reactions The recent shows appear to have real fans in attendance.

Not to get in rating semantics argument, but I would imagine how high you rate it has a lot to do with how much stock you put into feel-good stories and characters. I maybe in the minority, but I more invested in Daniel Bryan the character than I am Daniel Bryan as a wrestler. I thought this was one of the better character-driven matches in WWE history. I can see the ****1/2 rating if the feel good ending does not tip the scales for you. As for the matches listed, I have never seen the Jericho Last Man Standing and I really ought to. The Ladder match is great, but I think it is below the Street Fight. Yeah, Taker WM 27 does not do it for me. What about The Rock Iron Man match? Another match I have never seen, but need to. Have you watched Danielson ROH title run ? If not you need to check it .
-
You should watch more of his ROH stuff. Watch the entire Briscoe Bros. vs, Generico / Steen program and the Steen vs. Generico feud . Also his singles match with Claudio Castagnoli form Race to the Top N2 is great.
-
After reading the responses about the WWN Live and ROH relationship it is clear that they should work together and run a inter -promotional angle. It work for ROH when Gabe booked the CZW war. Hell Jerry Jarrett ran the inter promotional feud angle 5 times, it is a proven money maker. Memphis vs. Florida, World Class , Global , Smoky Mountain and ECW . ROH and WWN Live could run cards with their contracted talent facing off in a series of matches. The Briscoes , Jay Lethal , Adam Cole , ReDRragon , Elgin, etc vs. Johnny y Gargano , Chuck Taylor , Ricochet , Trent Barrett , Drew Galloway , etc. should really draw for both companies. ROH and WWN should know that all ships sail with the high tide. I guess both companies would prefer for PWG to continue to book matches with their talent. PWG has really had a good run capitalizing off the ROH - Gabe rift. PWG has had to be eating in to both companies DVDand/or IPPPV sales. Really smart business move by PWG. Now Tommy Dreamer going down the same road with ROH , WWN and TNA talent. I sure they will ROH and WWN will both continue their own little Cold War ., too bad.
-
I see that ROH does not try to block Roderick Strong from the WWN events. I know that Strong is a free agent but ROH is his number source of bookings . I wonder why Gabe does not let his top guys take ROH booking ? WWN only runs a few shows so his guys have lots of open dates . Is Saposky still bitter about being fired ? I know his main goal was to put ROH out of business . Is their still bad blood between ROH and WWN or have things settled down ? Anyone have any insight .

The Breaking Point: What would cause you to stop watching current WWE?
Memphis Mark replied to Fantastic's topic in WWE
I watch the WWE during the Moinday Night Wars , mainly because all of the territories had been driven out of buisness. I stopped watching on a regular basic in 2001. The invasion storyline drove me away . I came back in 2005 for the ECw relaunch , only to release I had played for a fool after I watched the first episode of the new ECW TV show. I have not watched in WWE TV for 10 years. I have plenty of other wrestling choices , I don't need to watch wrestle crap every week. I just stick with ROH , NJPW , NOAH and classic footage. Plus I have a intense dislike for Vince and his business tactics. . I have disliked that man every since Black Saturday . -
My understanding is that NJPW has purchased Pro Wrestling Noah . New Japan is still operating NOAH as a seperate promotion . I guess it is similar to when Jim Crockett bought the UWF and ran it for about a year before closing the old Watts promotion down for good.down for good. So in reality NJPW/ NOAH are one large promotion .

Memphis would run shows in Eastern Arkansas or Northern Missisissippi on Sauturdays night. The main crew would go to Nashville , while a secondary crew would go to Jonesboro ,Blythville , etc. That was one reason the Rock N' Express was created by Lawler. The Fabs would always, go to Nashviile , so another team that could draw money was needed for the smaller market Saturday show. Jonesboro meet Ricky and Robert. They would also run Jackson , TN on a regular basic . Jackson was a town of 50 , 000 people . They had one TV station , which had wrestling. I would watch the Jackson show at 11.00 P.M. It came on right after Hee Haw . The building in jackson seat around 7 to 8 ,000 people. So they would gets fans from all over rural West Tennesssee. They drew pretty well because a lot of the rural fans were afraid to come to big city Memphis . The Jackson program was the arena match program . So i would get both the shows on the same day . I would put reynolds wrap on my rabbit ears and moved the TV around until I got the Jackson station . Jackson would run on either Thursday or Saturday , I cannot recall the exact night .

Oh did I mentioin that I cannot stand Brian Christopher laugh . It is like fingernails on a chalk board.
-
The scenario like to see is for the WWE to close down. Then wrestling could go back to having 20 to 25 local territories again . No more creative teams, just a head booker. I can only dream.
