If you aren't on Twitter you might not have heard that the much raved about, mostly by Dylan, Scenic City Invitational has been released on VOD today: https://vimeo.com/ondemand/sceniccity2015 I'm only halfway through Night 1 but unless these shows fall off a cliff then this may be the best bargain in indie wrestling this year. Whoo Wrestling going this Vimeo route is tremendous because they take it a step further than most other promotions on the site have. Not only can you buy both shows for $11 (or if you buy this weekend use the code LABORDAY to save 10%) but you can also buy individual matches. While I went for the whole thing, if you are really strapped for cash and need to see Rave vs. Henry then that is a tremendous value. It feels like the south has been so far behind compared to other independent wrestling regions in the States that Whoo going above and beyond the vast majority of the promotions in regards to delivering these shows is amazing to see. The wrestling is good, it is MORE than affordable and the customer can choose the way they buy into the shows. All those aspects I believe are worth supporting in a world where PWG's BOLA will run you $50 before S&H. I think anyone on this board especially who doesn't buy this tournament is out of their mind.

http://www.spreaker.com/user/fourcornersradio/wasimcast-18-bola-was-alright-w-robviper This week on the WasimCast we are joined by RobViper (@RobViper) to discuss PWG's Battle of Los Angeles (you know, BOLA). We also touch on CMLL's 82nd Anniversary Show, the Diva Revolution and more. Tanner continues to impress with his complete and under inability to do anything that is related to wrestling. Sam forgets to bring up the twenty wrestling news stories that occured this week. FOLLOW: @4CRADIO @Tanner1495 @WasimCast

Will vote for him based on his WSX work. Same for Jack Evans.

I think I can call Joe vs. Kobashi my Bayley vs. Sasha. I can't de-emotionally invest from the match. And I will mark for it accordingly.
-
I know, you were getting worried. BUT THE WASIMCAST(Now known as the WhosimCast IS BACK FOR YOUR LISTENING PLEASURE! https://t.co/DQTBtgpMo2 Fray is back with the boys and they are talking not a lot of pro wrestling. You can look forward to some solid banter on Doctor Who, Summerslam, NXT Takeover and that's about it. And mostly for Takeover we talk about Sasha Banks vs. Bayley being five stars. Or is it? I don't know. We don't know. No one really knows. FOLLOW: @TheFrayMovement @Tanner1495 @4CRADIO @WasimCast

W2BTD, I can not wait to see your list. I genuinely mean that cause I expect some real corkers in there that you might not expect from this sorta list.
-
I see myself being conceivably higher on a few of the more modern candidates. My list is far from put together but by merely being on my list, Matt Hardy, Matt Sydal, Christian and Sheamus maybe. Also, Casas has as good a shot as anyone as being my #1 so there's that.

BACK AT IT AGAIN! If you are interested in learning about a promotion that is delivering some of the most uniquely produced wrestling promotions in the country, despite being a smaller indie, I would recommend you give this show a listen. http://www.spreaker.com/user/fourcornersradio/wasimcast-16-chicken This week we are joined by Mark (@MaxwellRBR) where we discuss Freelance Wrestling (@FreelanceWres) and their upcoming card this weekend. We also talk about the indie scene as a a whole. There is an attempt to look at SummerSlam, NXT, and ROH as well. Who cares though really? Tanner is confirmed scum. Tweet all inquiries to be the new co-host to @WasimCast. FOLLOW: @Tanner1495 @4CRADIO

Should we be talking about this a bit more or is it a non-issue to most? NXT came to Albany, about a two hour drive. I wasn't busy but I decided I would rather stay home than watch that. Keep in mind I have drove farther for shows headlined by Jim Duggan so it doesn't take a ton to get me out the door. I care so little about promos and build so that is probably a bigger hit to NXT. If I don't care about the match at the end of the line I don't care about seeing how we get there. Ring of Honor I think has better chances to have good stand alone shows. They have far more talents I want to see like Strong, Castle, Briscoes, Moose, ACH, Matt Sydal, and War Machine. They of course of the occasional Styles and Young Bucks which is a plus. NXT has...I have no idea who on that roster I'd be interested in watching. Sasha and Becky? And unless they are paired together that is a tough sell. Balor, Owens, Breeze, and Corbin aren't people I want to go see. They just don't draw me in. Admittedly Corbin is probably a lousy pick but Joe seems like someone who NXT doesn't want to focus on as a draw or it just comes across like that for someone who is not really paying attention to the product all too much.

I live in Upstate NY too and I say screw nice weather. But really I have found myself using YouTube more and more to do the rabbit hole method. I have watched enough stuff where the algorithms are already somewhat working so I throw on something that looks real interesting, some theme I want to hit on that night and go through recommended matches for a couple hours. Leads to some neat discoveries of matches I never knew existed. Maybe not the most efficient way to hit things I "should" watch but a great way to sample a style or person.

This week's show has already been called "Podcast of the Year", "An Instant Classic", and "The WasimCast's Masterpiece". Listen to see if they are full of malarky. http://www.spreaker.com/user/fourcornersradio/wasimcast-15-our-triplemania We are joined by Brad Ward (@BradWardFight) and Brandon Asahina (@BrandonAsahina). My goodness. Where do we begin? The banter? Wild. The Triplemania review? Something to behold. Evolve preview? Not a burial. It may very well be the BOLDEST WasimCast yet. Every WasimCast is a trainwreck. Listen to it unfold. It is also might be the most story driven piece of content we have yet to produce. This also might be our end. Introduction to the Board as a wrestling fan
concrete1992 replied to soup23's topic in Forums Feedback
Another TRUE New Yorker on PWO. Helluva time to be alive. -
I have looked at this question multiple times and still not exactly sure where I stand. In 2015 I find myself leaning more towards SMALL but that might just be because there is more stuff worked well in the SMALL department and less wrestlers "playing to the cheap seats". Like Thatcher right now is a hot fella on the message boards. He works small I dig it because while some say he is simply working a hold for 10 minutes, to me he is actually doing work in that time period versus some random Japanese juniors match that could do lots of STUFF that is BIG but it takes longer to set up and "sell" than it does to perform in a meaningful manner. At the same time you have someone like Dragon Lee who I think works BIG. His ability to bump like a mad man, to the point anyone could see he might die out there, is as enjoyable to watch, there just doesn't seem to be as much of that stuff done well right now. Cena vs. Owens comes off as something I would consider "big" but at the same time not stellar yet gets wildly praised. If that is what we have for the upper echelon of BIG wrestling than maybe it is just not as hot these days. Or I'm looking the in wrong places. The question is which do you prefer? I don't really think I prefer either one. If you are being wildly expressive, that's great. If you are angling for a hold for a good 5 minutes in an interesting manner, that's equally great. They aren't mutually exclusive ideas obviously either. I don't know where I was going with any of this tbh.

This match feels must watch.
-
I think he's probably has a complete handful under his belt! I also think he has seen enough to form his opinion. I ALSO think "Ugh, no" is silly.
-
After a week break we are BACK! Yeah, you don't really care. We even read a PWO thread on the air! http://www.spreaker.com/user/fourcornersradio/wasimcast-14-tanner-please-stop Tanner(@Tanner1495) and Sam(@WasimCast) are back with Case Lowe(@_InYourCase) sitting in our third chair. This episode goes off the rails early and never really looks back. Tanner says some unforgivable things. Case talks about Dragon Gate, which is also unforgivable. Sam is tired. We bury. We actually go back to Ibushi vs. Tanahashi because COME ON! Things were probably praised too. I don't remember much. Incredible banter. #DG4Lyfe

I think for BOLA it is a bit different. At least it'll be the set of shows with the most amount of fans flying in.
-
This+Politics are most likely the case. Which I get. No problem with that I guess. I could be dead wrong but I'm guessing if we don't get the styles clashes in round one then we might not see many of them at all. After the G1 pumping out a rather SAFE line-up I was hoping that these matches would blow me outta the god damn water. They didn't. Now after round one a lot of dreams are off the table. This tournament had potential for more dream matches than you can shake a stick at from the INDIE DREAM MATCH PROMOTION! Instead we got matches that have or could happen in the near future in other promotions. Start playing for the guys who will be there later on in the semis and finals, something that I could see happening, but doesn't give a lot of room for truly intriguing matches.

BOLA has good matches on it. I think for almost any fan of modern indie wrestling you'll find at least a couple matches that you'd be hyped for. GRAPPLEFRICK: -Chris Hero vs. Timothy Thatcher: They've had good matches before and I don't see that stopping. -Drew Gulak vs. Tommy End: Could be reminiscent of End vs. Thatcher which was real good. Gulak might be able to bring some even more rugged offense. AAA LUCHA-SPOTFESTS -Jack Evans vs. Angelico: Partners probably going to go ballz to the wall. -Pentagon Jr. vs. Drago: This will probably be real good. Assume they'll work a super spotty match but this might be one of the more grounded matches of the ilk in this thing. -Matt Sydal vs. Fenix: Is this a DG spotfest? A AAA spotfest? Doesn't really matter. Looks like a highlight to me. YOUR INDIE MATCHES -Ricochet vs. Zack Sabre Jr.: Two indie darlings going at it in front of a hot crowd. -Andrew Everett vs. Biff Busick: I dig both of them and if this was another setting(NOT BOLA) I'd be a bit more hyped. Then there's other stuff like Mike Bailey vs. Drew Galloway. Drew just looks like a wildcard being different than so many of these people. Agree with Bill that the booking seems lazy. AAA against AAA, EVOLVE against EVOLVE, and no real big styles clashes outside of the Bailey vs. Galloway match maybe. So much talent with opportunities to put together matches we might not see until years down the line when stars align. Sadly we have to wait until R2 to see if we get anything like that. EDIT: In the end it feels like a compilation show over "YOU CAN ONLY SEE IT HERE" sorta card.
-
How about a dozen or so WoS workers? Consistently present RIGHT NOW. I mean, you could put James Mason or a Dean Allmark on the list but if you value high peaks or the style ZSJ is bringing, a modern take on some older stuff, there you go. EDIT: Or replace "RIGHT NOW" with "within the past 5-10 years".
-
As a positive post, I can totally see Sabre being a guy who could make a ballot based on a more personal pick. Not sure how many people have been as good and somewhat consistently present than ZSJ over in the UK.

I'm going to need to see a ton more of Satanico before the deadline since he is a non-factor in my wrestling watching for so damn long. Luckily YouTube exists with more than enough of his stuff. Two matches I peaked at with him was a wicked fun 8-man match from AJPW in '99 which he wasn't a major factor but he was good when he was in there. At the very least it gave me a look at a lot of peeps that I might wanna dig deeper into. I probably should have just started a thread for GWE watching. We are here there and can't stop, won't stop, ya dig? Him and Casas had a good mat sequence early and since I know so little about Satanico it reminded me I need to give him a gander. This led to me watching him vs. Ultimo Guerrero from '01 I believe and that match is RUGGED! Both men battering each other for about the entire duration. Satanico takes a beating like a son of gun and evokes that sympathy. Satanico has one of those faces I suppose. When of those faces that you can see years of punishment coming through with every hit he takes. Satanico loves me though and hits a wicked senton in the third just to remind me that I'm going to love him on top and underneath. They did a great job playing with the finishes from the first and second which i'll mark for. The best part of this match though might be that from everything I know about him, this isn't close to his peak YET here he is putting in this fantastic performance.

Bless YouTube. Been bouncing around the past few days on that gimmick and watching matches I hadn't seen and 90% of the time didn't even know about. At the very least people don't talk about a ton. My lack of wrestling knowledge is some staggering stuff, ESPECIALLY before the 2000s but I want to get in as much stuff as I can. In the spree, I hit up some Vader matches and his ability to work bigger and smaller is one of my favorite capabilities for a wrestler to possess. Vader can give you 5 minutes or 20+ minutes and I'll be losing my shit for the entire duration regardless. Watched a random match against Dustin from '94 that went like 8 minutes and it was awesome. Dustin takes right to Vader, and Harley Race, and Vader bounces around. In the opening moments Dustin delivers two big slams before getting SQUASHED with Vader's bootylicious behind. Vader is just a bastard so he'll bat Dustin's head around. Obviously both wrestlers are great so Dustin makes everything look great but goodness. Great graps even if the ending is a bit shite. For what it is worth, I really liked what Vader was doing in Japan in 2000. Even afterwards though while he might not have been great he was a fella who would still have an aura about him. Maybe a little less now though him working Heath Slater for a squash a couple years back did get me tingling.
