  1. Went to 2CW tonight and it was nothing like the event from a couple weeks ago. Meaning, IT WAS REALLY FUN! A real variety show of quality pro wrestling. The Young Bucks were supposed to be on the card but weren't able to make it because of travel issues. I don't think that held the card back at all since they were going against Richards/Strong so there was probably a limit to that. But even that match that I wasn't looking forward to delivered with Team Tremendous vs No Remorse Corp. Davey was rocking a faux-Davey act and it was just fun. Loved Davey doing his SHOOT BACK-HANDSPRING KICK(I don't know) and then Bill Carr lariating the piss out of him. They had a scramble for the belt with 6 grapplers who all delivered the fun. Dalton Castle did a delay GERMAN SUPLEX on Dick Justice which was utter insanity. Should note that for plenty of matches the crowd was piss poor. Wouldn't get into anything. Which I didn't understand one bit cause then they'd do a nice chant afterwards as a show of appreciation. Why not just do that during the damn match? Whatever. Mickie James vs Cherry Bomb continues to make me think that James is leagues better than she'll ever get credit for. Wrestlers that make headlocks interesting get my seal of approval. Cherry can be a p good shit talker too. They main evented with Fox vs. Delaney which was fun live but I don't see that match holding up to ANY sort of tape scrutiny. Sucks to see Fox do 15 floaty enzurguries and then land like 3 stiff bicycle kicks. GIVE ME THE STIFF! Oh, and 2 Cold Scorpio showed up! Helluva surprise. He went up against Cheech and CJ Parker and it was hot stuff. 2 Cold is just so good. One of the best moments going to live shows was this. Didn't realize how good CJP's punches were. They were *FIRE EMOJI*. Oh, and Mike Bennett and Matt Taven kicked after working essentially a comedy match.
  2. Really don't mind intergender wrestling. Nor do I go out of my way to seek it out. That would be going against the entire spirit of what it is to me. When an independent promotion is booking these matches I like to believe they have good intentions and the matches are made to create interesting matches based on the talent regardless of gender. Granted that is more often than not probably not the case but that is how I like to view it. I also like the field overall and enjoy Heidi Lovelace among the females in the group. They are also running a Girls Night Out event the same weekend so they're making the most of the better talent. I say "better" in the perceived sense since Athena hasn't really been my bag over someone like a Mia Yim or Lovelace or Jordynn Grace. ALSO, AIW just announced Doug Gilbert for JLIT. What a weird and beautiful lineup.
  3. I am dying to know the detail that matters and that is which way the money is flowing. And how much.
  4. Was debating about suggesting a GME poll to follow this poll/go along with but I dug up the sentiment on that one from the "Are you interested" opening thread. And while I know plenty of people would find that list as useful or more useful later on, I'm aware that for many people taking part in this project, they've discussed the best matches for various decades for various regions for a long time now. So my question is, what are the best matches you've come across in research for this project? Would love to know with the wide variety of ways people are going about their research what matches have stuck out.
  5. Hulk Hogan's Twitter game. LITERALLY never disappoints.
  6. Weird of FIP to run that showcase. Or is it? I don't know but seems outta place. Assume there will be a North Cackalacky van coming down to Florida. Everytime I see Nick Richards I wish he was somewhere else where he could embrace being a scumbag brawler. Sick to my stomach that Gabe didn't find a way to get Scoot on his shows to wrestle Thatcher. It is like, why even book wrestling if you can't put that together? For Troy, what is Wildkat putting out these days? Awhile back I was running through their youtube videos and they had some fun stuff but it was all 6 minute matches and the ones going longer were filled with NOT GREAT talent. Though, find it hilarious for some reason that they have a feud with ROW.
  7. Truthfully don't know much about them. Wanna believe they have a connection to WCWC up in Portland since there is some crossover in the roster that you don't see everywhere like Ethan HD, Hammerstone, Caleb Konley, and Gangrel. Weird grouping. I think it is safe at this point to not assume a TV deal from one of these indies is as good as they make it sound i.e. pay to play programming.
  8. -Bloody lucha brawls -Heel kicking unholy amounts of ass and then doing a two-step -Necro Butcher punching dudes in the taint -HOT 6-MAN TAG ACTION! -Exile on Badstreet -That barbedwire, exploding gimmick between Onita and Sasuke in MPro '94. -Quality presentation! -Fatties being Fatties.
  9. So, two tournaments have been booked for the weekend of May 22nd with JLIT and now PWG's DDT4. PWG DDT4 AIW's JLIT 2015 For what is considered the ultimate indy fed in North America, I'm not so sure they are putting on a more interesting lineup with their annual tag tournament. Actually think PWG stealing Gargano and Ethan Page for the 22nd increases my anticipation for this bad boy. I made this point on Twitter but I'm not sure if there are 3 wrestlers in the entire DDT4 (Gulak, Busick, and Sydal) that I'd consider clearly better than Little Guido in 2015. And not more than 4(Hero) on that entire card. While I think the percentage of interesting talent for AIW is bound to go down, I still think they have a good shot at surpassing DDT4 on overall, on paper quality and at the very least surpass that card in the intrigue factor.
  10. "The return is really not what you think it is" would mean it ISN'T pretty much more of the same with a more official FMW stamp. There are plenty of fans on the Twitter gimmick though that see this as something to get excited about despite it most likely not meaning diddly squat. And when I say "sleazy" I'm being less ambitious with the term. If people all being thrown around into barbed wire or there are massive explosions or the stipulation has 3 or more words in it then I'd probably throw it into the category.
  11. With the announced return of FMW I have been confronted once again by my lack of knowledge about anything in wrestling. I know practically nothing. Tell me about FMW? Not quite excited about the return since it seems the spirit has been living with Onita for awhile. What is memorable from that crazy, whacky promotion? Oh, and any other sleazy Japanese wrestling from that period to check out?
  12. Listened to this on the trip to Watertown and this is now the second podcast in my "favorited" section on Podcast Addict. I knew nothing going in and while contextually I'm rough around the edges, I feel like I know SO much more than I did at the beginning of the show. Enlightening and engaging. Really, all I want out of my podcasts.
  13. I second the "old school" wrestling being put in a subforum so the hot topics of the day can exist in the front.
  14. NOPE! Worked the marks with an angle to set up the tag. EDIT: The crowd they drew really didn't give a lick as long as they got Joe to be honest. Match was fine. Joe looked good in his short bursts.
  15. THOUGHTS ON LAST NIGHT'S 2CW SHOW: Not too good. Joe was too hurt too work singles so it ended up being a tag match between him & AR Fox vs. JT Dunn & Cheech. Disappointing is an understatement.
  16. AIW out of Cleveland is running their annual JT Lightning Invitational Tournament on May 22nd & 23rd this year and have announced the first 3 entrants: -Little Guido -Nick Gage -Athena Like the entrants or not, it'll be hard not to have a more diverse 3 American talents on the indie scene. Based on some info last night(not to do with the tournament) I'm going to be making a strong effort to be there.
  17. I know absolutely nothing about UWF other than I can not make it profitable in a TEW10 mod I have. Running weekly with a costly roster? Outrageous. Really looking forward to listening to this. Have a trip to Watertown,NY so I'll be saving this. Sure it'll be a helluva listen.

  19. Why is everyone seemingly taking the locking of megathreads as knock to the board and a "slap in the face of the community". I don't think the goal is to create an environment where everyone will want to post to the board is as large a priority as it used to be where it seemed to try and make tweaks to be appealing to all BUT I think this change makes it easier for the newcomer to hop onto PWO and not look at the megathreads and see an almost daunting amount of stuff. As someone who doesn't post as regularly as many and rarely ever bothered with the two threads cause it was so dense and even if there was interesting stuff it was either easy to miss or hard to string together the discussion. I wouldn't blame the mods if the sole reason was, "Well, it is a lot of damn work to separate the 6 pages of discussion across 12 pages that appeals to x amount of people." There are still megathreads, just more niche than before so those who don't want to talk about 90% of stuff that takes place within them can more than likely get to the meat. Also, with Twitter, I know there are a lot of us on there. I know there have been complaints of questions that take up space and don't generate conversation. Why post them on a discussion board? If I have random dumb comments, I'll make them to my Twittah followers. And trust me, I have many. Twitter, terrible place to develop ideas and have conversations on wrestling but works well for that stuff. HERE, works great for talking about wrestling in a slightly more meaningful way. Dylan might post his "Political hit of Roman Reigns" theory on Twitter but I know that I don't get the full scope of his conspiracy theory without a post or something or other. IF you really want the random stuff you can McGuivar a way to get it. And last but not least, you know Pro Wrestling Only is scripted right? (Some real well built feuds tbh)
  20. I do NOT need this right now.
  21. Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar A match that is appallingly built to, to the point that the only option seems to be to keep the belt on the wrestler the WWE has just locked down but will only wrestle a few times a year. The thing is, I forgot one key element of wrestling and that is despite some of the rockiest stories it can attempt to tell, when wrestlers step in the ring they can transcend the story. Roman Reigns is a fine wrestler and when Brock Lesnar is put in position to do so, he is one of the best on the planet. I was expecting a good match. Though I also expected it to mean the end of any chance Roman Reigns has of being the top WWE guy that has seemed inevitable for a while now. Via one match, Reigns has gotten a new lease on life…or a new lease on the opportunity to be that top face. The match is the greatest WrestleMania main event that I have ever seen. Both wrestlers brought a level of stiffness that I don’t see being matched until maybe the next time these two meet in the ring. Whereas the Cena matches are Cena matches that are awe inspiring because of the incredible beating he takes, Cena does not quite dish it out as well as he takes it. Reigns does not get a great deal of opportunities to bring the heat but when he does it is scorching hot. He throws his forearms with force that would make you fear for his opponent’s safety except that he is throwing him them against Brock Lesnar. Reigns also throws nasty kicks to Lesnar’s chest and delivers a knee that brings a tear to Wanderlei Silva’s eye. The match as far as I’m concerned is a near masterpiece and I could see myself removing “near” from that description sooner than later. Lesnar is suplexing Reigns but when it is clear there is something in Reigns tank; he’s fighting it until he is on his back. The cut that Lesnar gets early on reminds you that this monster of a man is still a man. And almost as a reminder to who he is, he delivers the F5. Lesnar doesn’t go for the pin. It is too early for that. Now is solely the time for punishment. Reigns, a 250+ pounder, attempts to run through Lesnar with a series of clothesline but Lesnar not only takes it but wants more before putting him away with another German suplex. The facial expressions in this match are off the charts. Reigns smiling amidst his decimation is fantastic. Clearly something that could come off extremely cheesy, is plugged into the match at various moments that perfectly fit. Lesnar’s facial expressions though are some all-time elite level stuff. You literally can not teach the intensity in his eyes. The slight smirk he has after the F5 kickout is just too perfect. A great warrior who has finally found someone who may test him. There is no doubt in his mind that he’ll win but he may have to work for it. The gloves literally come off. It is subtle. Not much in wrestling is yet they’ve laid the ground so perfectly that that does not really matter. Lesnar smacks the taste out of Reigns’ mouth but that goes to elicit a blood-soaked smile that almost can only exist from someone who is in great pain but does care. It feels pulled almost directly from Fight Club. Reigns is destroyed for what feels like an uncomfortable amount of time and then he finds an ounce of strength on the outside to push Brock Lesnar headfirst into the steal post. What followed introduced an element to the match that took it from a great match to an all-time spectacle, and that is blood. Try as you might to say that the color red does add to the match, this match is distinct proof that in 2015 you are still incorrect. In real time there was a split second where Brock was standing there dazed with blood covering more and more of his face that I wasn’t sure if he was going to get back into the ring. A man can only but feel his mortality as sees the fluid that pumps through his heart. The small cut showed a chink in his position as invincible but the blood tripping from his head was the ultimate sign of vulnerability. In the ring, almost solely on adrenaline, Roman Reigns starts going to his Superman Punch. The way Reigns would hit the punch and keep himself standing on the ropes was perfect. The way Lesnar sold the punches was perfect. Lesnar not staying down after the punches or even the first Spear was perfect. It felt like it fit directly into a Rocky movie in the best way possible. For this match you must mention the ending. For some it was a match killer or at least a match hinderer. I can not say the same. Felt that Seth Rollins’ involvement did not boost the match, an extremely difficult task, but was so in tune with his character as well as doing a great job of teasing his possible loss worked for me. Even Reigns stopping the F5 felt logical in the scheme of the match where a war has taken place and he has his blinders on. An incredible spectacle. A masterful match. The perfect WrestleMania match in a way. from https://matchoftheyear.wordpress.com/2015/03/29/brock-lesnar-vs-roman-reigns-vs-seth-rollins-from-wwe-wrestlemania-3292015/
  22. I'm going to watch the piss out of Corey Graves trying food ALL OVER THE WORLD! As someone who genuinely enjoy's No Reservations, this show could fill that niche with some wrestling bits mixed in. Not sure if it'll be mini-segments or full-on shows though if it is the latter then I already am not having high expectations for decent new content that doesn't involve lazily approaching decade old pop culture people. Also, any news on what stuff they're going to do for Rivalries? I know they'll have new episodes was just interested in what since I'm pulling for non-WWE ones.
  23. Was just going to post links in the 2015 MOTY thread but figure that would probably get bothersome. So, if anyone thinks it'd be better to post it over there too, lemme know. The blog is something me and TJ Hawke are working on. It is the DEFINITIVE guide to the MOTYCs in 2015. Okay, maybe not. But we pool recommendations to post on and will be doing so more regularly in the coming weeks. Right now, the latest post is on Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar from WrestleMania. https://matchoftheyear.wordpress.com/
  24. LEMME TELL YOU...I rated it ****1/4 and I'm right there with you as fare as it being PRETTY DARN GREAT! Wrote about it in my review for the show on PWPonderings.
  25. It is more wrestling vault than an OTT streaming service with varied content.
