This has become my favorite wrestling podcasts to listen to. Glad there's a new one up. You guys do a great job. Favorite part of last podcast: Parv: "Big Daddy Dink was introduced and the fans could not have given LESS of a shit." LOL

He actually had a legit sports broadcasting resume. He worked as a White Sox announcer in the 70s, I believe. He was a professional. I didn't dislike him. Sort of have a nostalgic regard for him though, much the same as Bruno and Gorilla.

I watch a lot of baseball during the summer. I'm lucky if I can watch 30 minutes a night, tops, of wrestling. Generally maybe one or two shows a week at the most on disc. Kudos to the guy that's watched all of the WCW PPVs through 1990 in the past two months. Wow.
-
Oddly, I don't make an effort much to watch current stuff, but I'll sit through every single episode of season sets that I buy from the 80s. I'll rewind and watch matches over if I feel I wasn't invested in it or paying enough attention.
-
Oh fuck, and you didn't even mention the best line of the night. " No, I don't have any issues. No ego. Just a lot of pride. Let's go, Ricky" Jim Ross: "OH MY GOD WHAT A CLOTHESLINE BY LUGER. LEX LUGER WITH A CLOTHESLINE!!!!"

The one belt I didn't see on the wall was Hogan's 85 belt (the black version similar to the red NWA tv belt).
-
It really was, to the point of making me re-think my mixed feelings. Seeing all the belts in Triple H's office was cool too, especially the NWA belt Flair gave him. Yep, that was the best part. Warrior was interested in it too. Did you catch it when he said, "show me some of your stuff." HHH wanted to talk business, Warrior wanted to talk collectibles. It was pretty touching and perhaps cute.

You could NOT care less. Could NOT. Somewhat makes it hard to take the rest of your statement seriously. -
I'm blanking....which Clash did Dusty face Windham? Clash 1: Windham teamed with Luger Clash 2: Dusty and Sting v. Brain Busters Clash 3: Windham v. Sting Clash 4: Flair and Windham vs. MX Dusty was gone after that. Are you thinking of Bash 88?

Nailed it. Overblown, bland, showing off needlessly with the vocabulary, but still masking it with humility at the end. Perfect! Don't forget the needless sports metaphor But forgot to plug the bbq sauce and rub, which goes great on fish and veggies because, you know, JR is eating healthy now. -
No shit? What is Coach doing? And they've got that other cat from WWE....what was his name?

I LOVE the "stomp" buildup for the sweet chin music in that match. HBK just takes it slowly and methodically, and the crowd gets into it where almost everyone in the camera view is clapping along with the stomp, and stomping themselves, to the point that hard camera begins to shake right before HBK hits the kick on Nash. Just a great, great match with an awesome ending. I love that match.

Um, what? That was an utterly ridiculous post in general, but this line is especially absurd and probably offensive to people here. The 'gay rights' movement encompasses all age groups and has been going for decades, making a great deal of important and positive change. It isn't just a load of hipsters wandering around in rainbow wristbands. Just a quick thought on what this. I'm not necessarily agreeing with the quoted post, but the Gay Pride Parade held every year in Chicago has become more of a party/drinking fiasco with high school and college aged kids, much like St. Patrick's Day, than actually celebrating or recognizing the reason for the Parade in the first place. There is some merit, somewhere, in what he was perhaps trying to say. -
Just unbelievable. I saw the match live on closed circuit, and it blew me away at age 14. I watched it a month ago and still loved it.

JR mentioned the libations going down in the first two minutes that he was at the podium. He seemed a bit "slow" during the debacle, rather than "buzzed" or "slurring". I dont doubt he was drinking.

Fantastic. I had no idea Wade is only a year older than me. I caught him on Mike Tenay's Saturday Night radio show in early 1993 and ordered a subscription from the Torch around King of the Ring '93. I kept that subscription until late '97. I was 22, Wade was 23 at the time. Funny that Wade's mom was probably the one putting the mailing labels on the Torches and stapling them before they arrived at my house. Great piece. Really enjoyed the history of the Torch. I talked with Wade quite a bit in '95 when the internet was starting to take off, back when Scherer was trying to get into the business and Meltzer was strong. Those were fun times. BTW- I had no idea that Wade had a partner. It doesn't matter, but I just found that interesting. Good for him for adopting.

120 hrs a week would be, essentially, 7am until midnight, every single day. Perhaps a *bit* of an exaggeration? I hope so, at least. Isn't the dude married with kids now?

I would love to see this dvd some time. Now, this was around the same time that they were running the cage-match turkey battle royals, where the "loser" was the last guy to escape the cage. This particular card was scheduled to be that, but the state athletic commission came down on them for some reason, and they ended up having all of the participants work a gauntlet style match instead. I might be confusing stories though. Someone back me up on this or straighten my ass out

Everyone had fucked up hair in the 70s. That's not really playing fair to try to hold that against him.
-
I came into this thread thinking I had somehow missed a Vince Russo era, circa 2000, match with David Arquette defending the WCW belt against Michael Buffer.
-
I'm with Pat. Fuck Knoxville.
-
Did I see that correctly? Orton vs. Bautista next week on Raw, a week before Mania? Why would they give away the Mania main event a week before the show?
-
Regal vs. Fit Finley WCW circa '95 or early '96.

How is the Network going to affect WWE Home Video?

Hey Blazer, not sure where you live in the Chicagoland area, but I checked out the FYE by my house at Chicago Ridge Mall today. They still had quite a few of the Anthology sets for $10. I only picked up the Summer Slam volume 2 anthology as I had the other big four volume 1 sets already. Was hoping they had the Royal Rumble volume 2, but they only had volume 1. They have a ton of other older stuff brand new for under $10. Cool. I'm on the NW Side of Chicago, so I don't get down to Chicago Ridge often, but I'll try to make an effort to get down there or maybe to one of their other stores. Did they have Vol 3 and 4 of Mania? Sounds like they still had Vol 1 of RR and SS. Did you see a Vol 2 for Survivor Series? -
Am I totally out of line if I bump this? I am late to the party, no pun intended. Just finished AWA podcast 13 today. I was frustrated that you guys didn't know how to pronounce Despina Montegas' name . One note about Bock and Hennig. Within the context of the era, that was the first time, AFAIK, two guys had wrestled a full hour on tv uninterrupted. Flair/Windham from Worldwide happened I believe in the same month or two timespan, and Flair/Stemboat of course was still a couple of years away. The match probably loses a little gusto over time when you don't consider how rare and surprising it was. Of course, it's really difficult to enjoy now due to the commentary by Trongard who completely foreshadowed/telegraphed the time limit draw in the first 15 minutes of the match.
