I’m more excited about this year’s entrants than I have been in a few years. I’m not a big fan of Moxley but he should serve well to change things up. Interested to see how well Cobb hangs in a setting like this, as well.
-
The only reason they’ve sold tickets at all over the past few years was the Bucks, Kenny, etc. They sold out MSG on the assumption that those guys and other top NJPW talent would be there. No one’s buying a ticket to see Jay Lethal.
-
Yeah, sadly, for a lot of these guys, the most they will get talked about is people saying how dumb their new names are. It’s too bad AEW didn’t happen a year earlier.
-
They also air sporting events and stuff, not all PPV. Dan Patrick’s show is on there every day, as well. Turner owns them.

Wrestling in unusual contexts

The F1 race yesterday had a Dusty Finish. -
Has anyone heard what ticket prices are going to be for All Out?
-
Yeah, I couldn’t think of a more perfect logo.

I only watched the Juice/Moxley match and thought it was quite good. Certainly better than any singles match Moxley had in WWE.
-
Yeah, that one was just awesome.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4
Zoo Enthusiast replied to TravJ1979's topic in Pro Wrestling
It’s very similar. SNL has been almost completely unwatchable for several years, and especially in the past three. Unless you’re a boomer making six figures and watch 8 hours of MSNBC a day, there’s not a lot there for you. -
This show has been really good. Love being able to hear from someone like Ku in a long interview.

WWE TV 5/27-6/2 RAW IS WILL VINCE RESIST TAKING SHOTS AT AEW
Zoo Enthusiast replied to sek69's topic in WWE
One of the most underreported terrible things WWE has done is ruining the UK/European scene. It’s easy to lose sight of that because of how terrible the main roster shows are, or regular NXT going off a cliff, or doing Saudi shows, etc., but it definitely happened. A couple years ago, there were several folks here watching and raving about stuff like wXw, PROGRESS, etc. and they have all just run out of steam now because everyone is under a WWE contract. It was fine when they all had a “working relationship” with WWE but once the contracts and NXT UK stuff came, it took away all of the appeal of those shows. They might as well be EVOLVE. -
I didn’t see it but yes.

We Don't Know Wrestling SUPERTHREAD!

Been really enjoying the shows on the new feed. Especially that there was a mention of Street Fight Radio on the most recent one, which is my absolute favorite show. -
Also, every show I get to that point where I see how much time is left for the main event and I see 45-50 minutes and audibly groan. The shows would be better if they stuck to a tighter 2 hours. I have also seen enough ladder matches to last a lifetime at this point.

Thought it was definitely a lower-tier Takeover but I really liked Breeze/Dream & Riddle/Strong.

Yeah, especially considering how good Asuka was during this time. -

The Toronto one in late 2016 was pretty trash, IMO. However, it had a DIY/Revival match that was great. It was like a main roster PPV. A bunch of garbage with a good match in the middle that makes everyone forget that the show on the whole was bad. -
He did Dale Earnhardt Jr’s podcast this week and it was as awesome as I was hoping for as a big fan of both guys.
-
Oh hell yeah. The newsletter wars are back, too.

I mean, it has always felt kind of obvious to me that the person most pushing the HHH savior story was HHH. The whole WWE operation is just depressing and it sucks that so many wrestlers that I love watching are stuck doing nothing. And like many have said, NXT isn’t even that good lately. I used to think it was fine when they would sign someone I was a big fan of because they would be able to recharge for a while, live in FL, maybe work some TV, and go back on the indies. Now it’s just an abyss. -
From what I have heard from podcasts and stuff, Marvez’s role is supposed to be basically complimentary. Saying what the correct hashtag for the show is, when tickets go on sale, plugging websites and stuff, and then just ooh’ing and ahh’ing for high spots. I think if that’s what his role winds up being, it’s perfectly fine. Excalibur is the best in the business and I expect that to continue to become clear with each passing show now that their first one is out of the way.
-
I think definitely the latter. I don’t necessarily mind him but I am glad he won’t be in AEW.

After Matt Jackson did those Generico tribute spots on Saturday, my first thought was “what is Sami Zayn’s contract status?” It’s a shame that he’s stuck in WWE for the time being. -
[2019-05-25-AEW-Double or Nothing] Cody vs Dustin Rhodes
Zoo Enthusiast replied to paul sosnowski's topic in May 2019
This is my current match of the year. Just amazing work. Never imagined in my life that I would have tears in my eyes watching a Cody match but such is the brilliance of Dustin Rhodes. A lot of people in that crowd had their eyes opened to how amazing he is and the crowd reaction shots were also a great part of this match for me. Also, one of the best blade jobs I have ever seen. High art.
