  1. Reading through this I have some observations. You probably won't like all of them. Or any of them? 1. I don't know if shodate is a troll. He has some of the hallmarks of it, but could very well just be a guy who has to respond to everything and get the last word in. He actually does make some valid points though. At the very least get the idea in your head that if you address one of his points he is going to respond to you. 2. IF he is a troll you all play his game as if you'd never seen one before. First, you let him frame the discussion, leading to a Daniel Bryan thread turning into...whatever the Hell this is. Second, trolls need you to try and prove them wrong. It's what makes them work. It's why they do what they do. Solution is simple. Stop. Just fucking stop. And discuss the topic of the thread regardless of the intrusions of other topics. I can see the A.J. argument, but the rest is superfluous. 3. His English typing is not great. But 95% of the time I know what he's getting at. That is enough to communicate right? I'm done playing the exasperated dad now.
  2. Larry losing the belt in convincing fashion. Poor LaFon, a couple of tough losses. Big won for Pillman without Sullivan on his back. Spivey becoming an unwilling part of the Battle of the Pits was entertaining. Bam Bam continues to be an unstoppable force. I love that Bock's presence alone is impactful. The Sheepherders make a big splash on TV!
  3. Cooley's win is definitely the highlight. The main was a great mix of brawling and technical wrestling. The Assassins and the Cobra really put the boots to Mark there too. Who is going to avenge the Youngblood name now? Hot Property got a big win in the opener.
  4. Heel ref almost took me out of this. The hate and massive bumps and dives in the third were enough to reel me back in and think it was really good.
  5. I loved what they did here. Armstrong works the early part of the match like a young guy would be expected to. Really basic. Then ends up playing FIP and doing it so well the crowd that was chanting Mutoh's name gets behind Armstrong. Norton looks awesome on the hot tag and it's a win for everybody involved. Armstrong could have done better selling after being tagged back in for sure, but this is still really good for me due to the structure and Armstrong's great FIP.
  6. Funk as Friday is perfect. Embry/Garvin walking out is a good way for them to keep the belts.
  7. Tully no-shows in Wheeling?? Stud Stable vs. Caspiian Empire would be a ton of fun. Taylor got robbed and the Soul Patrol look to be falling apart. Poor Scott Casey's hat.
  8. I had not seen this before. If it's puro from after 2009 (and most of the matches from the 2000s) I haven't seen it and usually with good reason. The style doesn't appeal to me and I had a hard time getting into this despite liking Akiyama in most of his matches I've seen.
  9. Kai comes to the ring with some kind of massive burn or scar on his chest. I think we know where this is going. Akiyama responds to an elbow with some chops and gets the advantage using the injury. Kai being below Akiyama (his strikes don't have much of an effect slowing Akiyama down, but he does sell them) makes this more of an underdog match. Problem for me is you never really get the impression Akiyama is actively trying to stop a lot of the impact moves Kai does. He just takes them because he knows he can. Then he is up faster than you would think and needs to be beaten down more or comes back. Kai's offense is perfectly good in a flashy junior who idolizes Kawada way, but it doesn't really lend itself to the story the match wants to tell. If he had stuck with more of the big (too obviously leg slappy) kicks it would have worked better than the suplexes and a powerbomb on a uy way above him and 20 pounds heavier. Akiyama didn't exactly go out of his way to put Kai's suplexes over either. He sold great for the strikes as the match progressed, but didn't seem to have much respect for the backdrop or the German. It's nothing really against either guy or this match. Just not my cup of tea.
  10. What about those of us who don't care for modern wrestling as a whole? Are we the out of touch, grumpy old men who just wish the kids would stay off of our lawn?
  11. Good juniors style match with lots of good action. Not a fan of the style and I much preferred the Honaga match. I will mention that 1998-2003 me would be telling me how insanely wrong I am for thinking that as Benoit was one of my gateway drugs to becoming a wrestling fan. That dropkick was completely insane, and you can see how little he did to lessen the impact when he did his diving headbutt every time.
  12. Fun heavyweight match with Ricky actually playing a decent FIP. Scotty seemed like an afterthought for 90% of the match here, which probably helped. Vader never truly looked like the big man monster in the States. He always let himself get tossed around a little more. No big deal though, it seemed like it worked.
  13. I wonder how long until Jimmy gets so pissed with Embry he won't team with him anymore. Martel has been a nice change of pace as champ due to being a babyface. Pringle getting more interview time than Lawler would not stand in Memphis, good thing this is Texas. Tim Horner as TV champ is a cool idea.
  14. Loved Pritchard's heavy hitter opponent for the TV belt. Main was great with David finally getting his come-uppance. Should have saved that for an arena so the crowd could blow the roof off. Race vs. Orndorff will be fantastic. Mulligan is a great addition to your show. The Horsemen, St. Clair, Soul Patrol not quite getting the win, great show all around.
  15. Good to see Borne getting a big push of late. Tonga seems to have found his groove again after losing a few. I like los Infernales getting one over on the Rougeaus. Martel continues to have a great run as champ.
  16. Great Savage promo to end the show. Love me a good pissed off Savage promo. Hennig vs. Fernandez would easily have been my match of the night.
  17. I love the idea of an out of control King Tonga. If you don't believe me read my Montreal booking (which pales in comparison BTW). Poisson is somebody who can make waves too, not quite as big though. I am loving the Adonis/Borne feud, can't wait for that match.
  18. I loved Arn's promo here. He's just so good even when it is something as simple as this. Paul is pretty good here too. I'm 100% sure that Bobby not talking was the way to go with this.
  19. Savage's pre-match promo is all-time great Savage material. Jake's was great too, but I preferred Savage's promo here. The match could have used more time , but I thought they kept things moving well enough. The DDT being as ineffectual as it was did seem strange.
  20. Hogan was definitely at his worst in the match. Sid's turn was foreshadowed more than enough. Still I didn't think it needed to be subtle. He was clearly still pissed and had every right to be. His post-match promo was great and I actually liked Beefcake for once in the post-match. Hogan killing everything that moved was all kinds of bleh.
  21. It's a forward step. Can't complain about that at all.
  22. The Simmons/Cameron/Finlay match would have been my favorite. Love the reasoning for Footloose vs. Danger Zone. Also love Choshu and Kimura stealing from the Starrs. Would have enjoyed the main, but it would be so much better about 7 years in the future.
  23. Lee coming out with no visible broken arm was something I noticed too. Great brawl with Big Black Dog looking like a monster. I noticed how Jeff and Dave substituted "Bad" for Black in his name and you wonder how much Dave card for all of the race baiting.
  24. Great stuff from Koko and I hope he sticks around Memphis instead of wasting his time in the WWF. For a lot more money I imagine, but he was never used anywhere near right. Some jobber is going to pay dearly for that title being held up.
  25. Yeah the man on woman violence is an aspect of Memphis I could really do without. It does get the fans more involved and the Embry vs. DWB part of the feud is really good. The attack on Kim takes me out of it though.
