This was really good and well-executed for a battle royal and did exactly what it was supposed to do. Sting and Luger had a really good final pairing to boot. However, this setup at Starrcade is a terrible idea. It's their big show of the year, not the place to experiment.

Embry showing his true colors and it probably doesn't end well for Jimmy Garvin. Leatherface and Jimmy Jack would have been fun. Love that Dutch jumps right into Ronnie Garvin's spot in that Texas Heavyweight Titles rivalry. Kamala being pushed in two territories makes me smile. The Funks are going to get their revenge on Embry/Garvin some day....

Wow, what an incredible show! Great use of the Invaders here! The tourney was really well booked and I liked how the Roadies looked like they had it won until they ran into some unfortunate circumstances. Midnights as champs is a great choice. Nikita is poised for a massive run. I'm not talking big like the on he had. I'm talking 3 or 4 times as huge. Slater with an assist from Gordy was a nice twist. Sad to see Duggan go, but it looks like we may get a babyface Dr. Death.

It's not often the Horsemen are one-upped in star power, but I think they definitely get outshone here. Even with Chicky Starr involved. Johnson and Roop are quietly having a very intense feud. David Sammartino has indeed made a lot of use out of the famous name. I would pay good money to see that Pritchard/Taylor feud.

I am liking this version of Danny Spivey. The big gaijin are really having their way with their opponents in Japan.

About as good a match as you will get with Hogan plugged into the Flair formula. Flair makes Hogan's house of fire opening look really good despite bumping and stooging a little too much. Flair does end up looking like a chump all the way around, which often gets glossed over when he's really laying on his heel schtick in NWA/WCW because of the insane amount of cred he's got there. If the goal was to make Hogan the hero who vanquishes the invading champion, it worked.

[1991-12-29-WWF-Wrestling Challenge] Barber Shop: Jake Roberts
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in December 1991
Terrible host, great interview. I know they held on to Brutus to keep Hogan happy, but there had to be better uses for him. -
Big show for Satanico. Kamala & Link's win had to be the highlight for me.

I'll agree that the way you use Tanaka is great. I always wondered why he never got a better push. Your tag division may not be traditional big name tag teams, but it is sneaky kinds of great anyways. I'd like to know whether it wasLarry Z or Bock in frustration with Larry Z that hit the ref for his team. Again, I like the way you are building up Bam Bam. Can't wait to see who his first serious challenge is.

There was a lot of good stuff on that TV, but Spivey winning the title kind of dominates that show. Snakepit/Bullies, Guerreros/Bees, Adams/Roberts, Martel/Zbysko, Steamboat/Burke...what a huge stacked card! Zbysko winning the Canadian Title trumps everything else for me. Yeah, Sawyer/Cactus in a dog collar match is definitely a dream match. Then you get the TDM on top of it! Great series of shows! Good to see Bigelow doing well in a learning environment, thanks for doing that.

The six-man match and the tag championship matches look like a lot of fun. That 4 corners match is my match of the night though.
-
The implosion of los Infernales continues to be a highlight for me. Satanico being shaved bald will not go unpunished. Charland seems to have bitten off more than he can chew.
-
I'd give both the opener and the main a tie for match of the night. Adonis continuing to be a semi-paper-tiger champion is good stuff as well.
-
SNME delivers on all 4 matches and keeps everything moving forward. Heenan and Hart make out like bandits in the process. The Refrigerator! Nice twist at the end. Great finish to Prime Time. Sting gets some payback for a loss in a memorable way. And count me in for Hansen vs. Andre!!

This is for the Secret Santo project from Jetlag. Link is below. Togo ambushes Goto during entrances and it seems like these guys either have a feud or Goto is just pissed off by this. Early on it is established that KDX have to use teamwork to overcome the fact they are severely outgunned by Goto, on even terms with Aoyagi and a little above Azteca. This point is driven home by Goto no-selling everything thrown at him for the first 10+minutes of the match. And destroying two members of KDX, but mostly Dick Togo. He is entertaining in the way he does it though. He makes Togo a chair necklace to bust him open, completely destroys a fan's umbrella and borrows the ref's belt. Togo is great at being the face/heel (can't tell which in peril). Aoyagi and Azeca get in on things, but this match is all about Goto wanting to murder Togo. Goto takes things too far for Aoyagi when he grabs and breaks a beer bottle to stab Togo with. KDX pounce on this opportunity to put Azteca away with a Togo top rope senton. Goto no-sells most of Aoyagi's post-match offense as well. Fun match with maybe a little too much no-selling by Goto. Seems like he'd be far enough above KDX that it makes sense and I'm not sure I want Goto to be putting a lot of time into selling anyway. KDX and Aoyagi play their roles well. Azteca seems like he's around to do some lucha spots and eat the fall.

I love that little bit they do with the speech for the show. Probably my favorite MST3K moment ever, with the railings and balustrades skit on Space Mutiny coming in a close second.

WWC would like Abby on the 19th of April.

This one is for Jetlag. Edit: Jetlag gave me: I thought it was a fun tag with mismatched teams and a good if hammered-in-too-far story all the way through. Review is below. http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/41216-tarzan-gotomasashi-aoyagiazteca-vs-kai-en-tai-indy-world-72298/

Flair knows a guy. I wonder who that could be?
-
I'll second the Tonga/Duggan matchup being very intriguing. Martel not getting his win is less than ideal, but leaves things open. That 6-man would have been some kind of brawl.
-
Flair winning the title from Magnum had to make more than a few people unhappy. Great card that wraps up a lot of the stuff that has been going on in Lutte and MACW for a while. Robinson vs St.Clair or Wahoo vs Race would be my matches of the night. Loved the finish to Hansen vs Inoki.
-
Great job setting up Magnum/Flair at Battle of the Belts. The Nightmares holding on to their spots with Taylor attacking Pritchard is a really good way to kill 2 birds with one stone. The Fullers vs. Superfly sounds pretty fun.

In response to joeg's match here is my review. http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/41172-kenta-kobashi-vs-johnny-ace-6395-ajpw/ I liked it a lot and the layout was really strong. Played to both guys strengths. I remember Ace being on fire in 97 and wonder if these two didn't have a upper tier AJPW match in them given the right circumstances that year. Hey, PR isn't for everyone. I'm glad you liked some of it anyway.
