  1. There were noticeable moments in the match where Aja just came in the match and basically said "Enough of this lucha bullshit." Bison continues to be hyper aggressive on offense and I like seeing that side of her. I think the lucha submissions really throw off both Kyoko/Yamada and their opponents since they came back from Mexico. Yamada whiffs a few kicks while trying to put Aja away and it is too much to ignore. They did this mostly right and it was an impressive match. But the bad spots are pretty glaring.
  2. Celebrities, local or bigger usually do if the know how to use that totheir advantage. I'd guess Lawler is more than savvy enough in that area.
  3. Here's the review for Bret vs Dynamite. http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/41132-bret-hart-vs-dynamite-kid-wwf-91485/ I enjoyed it as a look at where both guys were in 1985. And as a look at heel Bret, which I think is a better Bret than as a babyface.
  4. Bret takes an early modified version of his sternum bump off a catapult, which is pretty cool. I like Bret more as a heel. The way he carries himself lends itself to a stalling heel persona in a big way. And the way he delivers his offense with that signature arrogance screams heel to me. Dynamite sells the FIP better than I expected and makes a good comeback to get the crowd rolling. One thing I like about 80s Bret matches is that a roll-up, any roll-up late, is a big threat to end the match. Bret and Anvil 2 on 1 Dynamite post-match until Bulldog makes the save in very Bulldog fashion. Good match that seems like a test for both as singles guys.
  5. Had to find the right version of this match.
  6. Bison is still ridiculously pissed off at Hokuto and just massacres her at the bell. Aja messes up a package piledriver and almost kills Hokuto in the process. And that in no way takes away from the match. Aja gets to look as good as she has yet against Bull. Bull switching up tactics and going to the stomach on Aja with the nunchucks was a nice touch. The main theme not related to the two big names was Hokuto getting destroyed over and over again, which plays into the finish.
  7. I loved this. The Thundercats as rudos is an odd choice, but it ultimately works. Leono punting dudes in the balls in plain sight of the ref was fun and made the payback better. I'm not sure they bled enough. Panthro's mask was silver plus blood color by the end of the match. I'm pretty sure they wanted to smear blood all over as many fan's chairs as possible. Good souvenir there. Crazy dives and top rope stuff in addition to all the blood and violence, yes! Easily the most entertaining non-comedy trios of 1990 or 1991.
  8. I liked Pete's callback to Hansen vs Funk by the lake. I also enjoyed the Hell out of this as a bizarre spectacle. It makes zero sense that it happened, but it was entertaining in a Puerto Rico kind of way.
  9. Really great action from the Omni. Sting looks like a world beater, taking on Rude's cronies as well. The post-match attack on the knee is well done and everyone comes out looking good. Was there some kind of guest booker for this feud?
  10. One of the better bits of booking from the WWF this year. Tunney's announcement had some kind of response from Hogan we didn't see, which I'm completely okay with.
  11. I liked Embry showing his true colors despite all of the new look/girlfriend stuff. Nice DDT on the studio floor too.
  12. Big win for Douglas and a good showcase for a lot of young talent. Benoit gets a main event, which has to be a pretty big deal.
  13. Interesting character change for Embry. We'll see how long it lasts.
  14. Tenryu as the survivor of the first half of the Rumble was great. Nice to see Jumbo have something go his way for a change. Tag match was a fun opener and Hara vs Simmons would be a minor dream match.
  15. Good studio match and I enjoyed Kamala's performance for the little details. Lawler did really well in this too. Count me in with everyone above on the officiating. If you're going to let Kamala shove you around all match and cheat, don't freak out on Lawler for the fireball.
  16. I'm starting to see why the GME project isn't on the board. And I don't necessarily disagree with Jetlag's post either.
  17. With the performances Missy gives I find myself asking i she were a male would she have had a job in any kind of performing business? I suppose you could apply that to a lot of women in wrestling. I wish whoever picked the music for this had been at Pearl Harbor. Good highlights, you think we'll see half of them in WCW?
  18. It surprises me that Han throws better kicks than Maeda throughout. His palm strikes are far better when he is in close and they connect , might be him taking it easy on Maeda though. It strikes me that Volk may have given the striking advantage to people later in his career to create more drama. Han is winded very quickly and only gets worse as the match goes on. Maeda clearly not fighting at all while Han was catching his breath was just plain not good. I love Volk but both of these guys have better matches in them.
  19. First three words out of my mouth when I saw this match were, "Ahhh fuck you!" Should let you know my mindset going in. MVCs do better in giving to Misawa/Kawada here. It isn't top shelf, but it is definite improvement. They even remember to stop with the boring shit and make the crowd react when it starts to get quiet. Finish is a really good twist on the story all year with...the same ending. Fuck you after all.
  20. I like the way feuds are developed indirectly for this show. Still a lot of marquee matchups, but most of the actual feuds are something that get interjected into the match.
  21. Can't decide if I like the Nashville or Atlanta show more. I'll just have to think both are great.
  22. I wasn't a fan of the excessive ref involvement myself. But at least he was on both guys when rules were broken. Third fall was incredible but the first two keep this match below the 1990 hair match.
  23. I will agree on the MVC being an incredibly boring tag team. The crowd dies every time they are in control of a match. Hansen gets more out of them than anyone else and I did enjoy Doc's FIP. Good finishing run but it doesn't salvage my opinion of the MVC. I very much doubt that Hansen was coming to WCW at this point. He was too over in Japan and it would have taken a ton of money to get him to leave.
  24. Gilbert and Shultz look like they are going to steal the show, but Embry comes back with tomess with the Funks in probably the dumbest move of the year. Great card.
