  1. It was fine. It was dumb (and the match finish was super abrupt and it already sucked wind out of the sails) and the ending was ultra mega dumb but I had fun.
  2. Twitter already having a field day:
  3. Match was really good up until that ending too. A shame that that's what everyone is going to remember out of the match.
  4. yeah, I had a tweet that blew up about the Sonic the Hedgehog-ass looking ring and one of the responses was someone backpatting themselves like "So glad I haven't watched in over 30 years". Everyone else was stoked.
  5. Huge fan of the referee beekeeper's outfit.
  6. My point was calling people out for making obnoxious posts and then proceeding to make fun of someone else by dismissing their point that their college and high school friends thought differently from you and including the laughing emote is also being quote obnoxious.
  7. I have no horse in this race but calling out people for making "obnoxious posts" and then immediately afterwards going "lol you and your college friends" is two sides of the same coin, c'mon man.
  8. There absolutely was. I almost always forget that the only reason Cornette was able to get SMW off the ground was because Rick Rubin came up to him and had this exact same complaint: that wrestling wasn't the same as it was in the territory days, and that he was helping back SMW solely because he wanted to watch a promotion that was like that.
  9. THIS entirely, and I feel like it's completely glossed over by Jesse defenders, and this comes from someone who loves Jesse. It's part of why I love the Gorilla-Jesse combo far more than Vince-Jesse. Having had the chance to watch a ton of the the weekly TV Jesse just jumps all over Vince so much and it's very reminiscent of the bickering with Corey Graves and Renee that I fucking hated. To me that's why the actual money combo for Jesse is with Gorilla, because with Gorilla you have someone with enough voice and authority to throw Jesse's bullshit right back at him and shut him up sometimes. It's two people who acted like they were both smarter than the room butting heads. I am not surprised when I hear that Jesse loved working with Gorilla more. With Vince sometimes Jesse just jumps all over him and it just keeps going. I often feel like WWF Superstars being near impossible for the Network to fully rerun really helps Jesse's case because we have little examples of Jesse and Vince besides Saturday Night's Main Event, where Jesse would put more effort into trying to be on his best behavior for the TV audience.
  10. Ole Anderson and Manny Fernandez are up there too. Have rarely heard a nice word about them. Even when Cornette talks about Ole and how he loves how miserable he was he always recounts how he was always happy to spit Ole's venom right back at him to go and stick it to him.
  11. That Lumberjack Match fucking rules, too. They completely have that crowd believing the title change is taking place. Highly recommended. It was more the weekend of the show. The Richard Belzer incident from a few days before gave them tons of free publicity too. Most all of WrestleMania 1's closed circuit ticket sales came last minute, a large chunk of it Sunday. WrestleMania 1 didn't even do a full sellout of the Garden!! They kinda just assumed it would sell out so they also sold tickets for the Felt Forum. Also yeah the first WrestleMania was mainly about the idea of it being a spectacle and not really a way to settle TV feuds. Don Muraco wasn't even on the show and in exchange he got to headline with Hulk for three straight MSG shows. Not a bad tradeoff.
  12. Man...
  13. I think another part of the problem was it hit a little too close to home for people in the "this is getting a little tasteless" kind of way, because while the Attitude Era was all about T&A and everyone cheering it on, there was the uncomfortable thing that this really WAS the wife of Dustin that they were doing this with, and we literally saw them the year before do an angle where they were struggling with their marriage (culminating with a sitdown interview with Jim Ross where Dustin called her all sorts of shit and then walked off). The fans want to see T&A, but they also are adept enough to notice "whoaaaaaa you don't go after HIS wife." It was different with Yamaguchi-san because he was already a joke character for a joke stable that was being played for laughs and mocking Japanese stereotypes. It felt a little more real with Dustin, and I think Russo+co. just saw Terri as someone hot rather than how the fans saw her as "yeah, she's hot, but we literally just saw these two in a story where they were trying to repair their marriage". Also Johnny is right, the whole Goldust redemption angle was awesome. I look at the Dustin/Goldust angle as what really killed the mystique/value of Val's character to be honest though. It did so much damage to Val because he went from being "oh here's the goofy porn star and he's making silly porn movies with the clearly not real wife of the stereotype manager of a stereotype stable, and now here's John Wayne Bobbitt" to what fans saw and felt completely uncomfortable over. He clearly wasn't supposed to be the heel in the angle and the fans I think legitimately got kinda pissed over him over it, so they had no choice but to swap both sides around. Once they got Terri out of that angle it did wonders for her character because they kept her as far away from Goldust as possible and fans forgot and finally saw her as the hot T&A that Russo+co. envisioned her as.
  14. He so badly wants to just talk and talk and talk which is very Jim and I love that he's already clearly antsy about getting back to normal. I needed that level of a pick-me-up and I'm so happy he's working towards recovery.
  15. Man, this is completely fucked.
  16. Adam Pearce got it too.
  17. Dave's been reporting it in The Observer for the past few weeks and people are finally starting to talk about it thankfully. I'm glad people are finally starting to bring it up because it felt like Dave was all alone in talking about it amongst the more mainstream wrestling press.
  18. RIP Fink. That made me smile. I love that they even shone a spotlight over the MSG-replica mic.
  19. Shawn Stasiak finally earning the big payday!!
  20. that sounds like that rules though
  21. Samoa Joe subtly smirking when he mentions AJ's family will be a reference to that weird Wendy angle to me and no one can tell me otherwise. Let me have my continuity damnit!!
  22. I would rather listen to Mauro Ranallo scream modern pop culture references than Corey arguing with anyone ever.
  23. 100000%. I desperately needed this. Even outside of wrestling it's been a real shitty week for me and this was just what I needed.
  24. This is the best fucking thing I have ever watched.
  25. John Cena may have stealth-donated $40,000 to Shad Gaspard's family memorial fund to help it real its goal. This dude is too good for this world.
