This is pretty much your standard modern WWE cage match. What does make it stand out is Randy Orton comes down to ringside and does an awesome job heeling it up. He is just constantly trash talking Hardy and telling Umaga what to do. He even ends up throwing chairs into cage. Orton's is really the only reason to watch this.

This is about 8 minutes of a title match on TV. Seems like the start and finish sandwiched between a commercial break. Perez Jr. comes off as your better than average regional babyface. He shows a lot of charisma but is also pretty smooth and proficient with his work. Race comes off as typical Harley here, although I was surprised that he could still move around pretty well at this point of his career. He does hit the piledriver on the floor a little more than 2 minutes into the match but Perez Jr. at least tries to cover it up with some good selling considering the situation. The selling at the finish was goofy as Race gets in a belt shot but Perez Jr. seems fine getting a couple of near falls as soon as they return to the ring. Perez Jr. then misses a dropkick and sells it like he just got hit with the belt again allowing Race to get the win.

This was the first time I've seen a pre-70's match in full and it was pretty entertaining. Rogers really looked like a star in the way that he carried himself and all of the little things he would do to add character to the match. Enjoyed how Anaya worked holds, he always seemed like he was trying to get as much leverage as possible when he applied something.

I think it's just more open than changed. They're still holding open tryouts, still signing bodybuilders and models, still passing on indy/international guys who you would think would be no-brainers. The big difference is Hunter being in charge. He seems to be more of a "fan" than either Johnny Ace or Jim Ross. Clearly more willing to try different types of talent. Still, all of these new guys are going to have to learn WWE ringwork and promos, that certainly hasn't changed.

Recommended Jumping Bomb Angels matches from WWF?
donsem43 replied to Ricky Jackson's topic in Pro Wrestling
Might as well watch the women's match from the first Survivor Series to as that ends with JBA vs. Glamour Girls at the end. -
This is a fun matchup even though it's rather obvious from the start that it would be better off in a smaller setting than the Tokyo Dome. Suzuki pretty much dominates the matchup from the early going as he has a creative shoot-style counter to all of Nishimura's old-school spots. Eventually catching Nishimura in a cross-armbreaker then focusing his attack on the arm. Just when it looks like Nishimura has no answer for Suzuki's attack he gets a backslide out of nowhere for the win. This was fun but it comes off as a teaser to watch this to could do if you gave them 20+ mins at Korakuen.

[1981-01-03-Portland] Buddy Rose vs Jay Youngblood (2/3 falls)
donsem43 replied to Loss's topic in January 1981
So the date on the YouTube description says the 2nd but I want to check out Rose so I'm going with this date. First fall is pretty bland, mainly because Youngblood refused to sell any of Buddy's arm work. I did like Rose's Asuka-style armbar takedown and how Youngblood takes the fall by just pounding the crap out of Rose's arm. Second fall is much better because of Rose. He starts out selling the arm, Youngblood immediately tries to go back to working on but Buddy repeatedly cuts him off with an eyerake. The story is that Rose is getting more desperate as he just doesn't have an answer for Youngblood's repeated arm attack. Buddy does get some good counters in but never truly regains control because Youngblood doesn't really sell any of Rose's offense. Pretty good screwy finish as Rose's desperation becomes too much and he just drills the ref to get DQed. Probably far from the best Rose intro, but I saw enough in the second fall to check out more of his stuff. -
New year's resolution for Io Shirai is to work on her dives:

Fun start in the first fall as Casas wants to start slow and play mind games with Dorada. That plan gets blown apart when Casas gets thrown to the floor with a headscissors with a quick follow up dive from Dorada. Casas quickly changes gameplans for the second fall, deciding to go right back at Dorada. He catches him on the apron with kick, throws him into the post, then hit a big running apron dive the takes the both of them to the guardrail with Casas' momentum taking him right over. Once they get back in the ring, Casas locks on a Scorpion to even things up. Third fall sees Dorada continue to go all out but Casas seem content to just try and lure him into a mistake. Problem is Casas just tries to go for the pin right away and never really follows up. This allows Dorada to just keep firing away and eventually hits Casas hard enough to get a rollup for the win. Really fun, if a bit short, title match.

[1986-01-01-Mid South-Tulsa, OK] Dick Slater vs Butch Reed
donsem43 replied to Loss's topic in January 1986
This was fun to watch. They did just randomly threw out some big moves out of nowhere and never really followed up on them, although Bill Watts was trying hard to have it make sense on commentary. Finish was pretty interesting with the ref almost immediately reversing his decision after he counted three. -

Here's this match. There might be some confusion because these two teams had a rematch a couple of weeks later. In that match, Io worked with a bad back while Santana hurt her knee earlier in the night so that one isn't nearly as good.

Daniel Bryan leaves WWE after a blowup over getting back in the ring and tries to take them to court. Fans are outraged, so in response, Vince decides to give Sami Zayn almost exactly the same push that Bryan got in early '14. It works, fans forget about Bryan. Rey Mysterio beats Mil Muertes for the LU title then drops it to Pentagon Jr. at Ultimo Lucha 2.

Thread for Meiko Satomura vs. Io Shirai for the World of Stardom Title While I thought this match was awesome, I don't think I like it as much as others. Still, it was nice to see this match get some good buzz as soon as it showed up online. Also reorganized the list a bit and added a top 5 wrestlers list for the year.

This was quite the way to end the Stardom/Sendai Girls feud, or at least for now. Story of the match has Io constantly getting drilled by Meiko but still managing to get in some comeback and slowly chip away at Satomura. The strikes here are just nasty, maybe it was the way that the sound was setup but you could hear pretty much every shot the whole match. Wasn't crazy about some of Io's selling on her comebacks, she hit some big stuff a little too easily. Still an awesome way to end the year for Shirai, who is my personal woman wrestler of the year. ****

I watched it last night before bed in fanboy mode so I don't really trust my first opinion on it. I usually watch matches 2 or 3 times just to get a firm opinion on them, so hopefully I'll have a review up soon. Actually there's quite a few matches from the year-end shows that look pretty good on paper. Honestly I'm more hyped to watch Best Friends vs. Jumonji Sisters for the JWP tag titles then I was for Meiko vs. Io.
-
Thanks, I was just curious since there's some people here that are into the indy scene and maybe they had seen/heard/read about something that wasn't in the all-women groups. I watched a few other matches from the Stardom USA tour. The Thunder Rocks vs. Matsumoto/Skater match that was the main from the 2nd show was pretty good, Iwatani vs. Nicole Savoy from the 1st show was solid if short, and it was interesting to see Melina not look too out of place in the two tags that she was in. The initial point of the thread was if someone had watched the NXT women's matches and were wondering if there was anything of similar quality from joshi or indy women's groups. I could put up a list of some lesser or interesting matches if someone wants though.
-
Anyone know of any highly rated indy women's matches from this year that weren't in Shimmer/Shine/WSU that I can watch online?

I always thought that Nakamura's flailing was part of his rock/pop star gimmick, he's just the type of guy who just over-exaggerates when he preforms. Overall, I thought the match was great although it does drag the whole mock/one-up each other stuff was played out and not need towards the end of the match. It worked in the early going as it seem that Nakamura's strategy was to get Ibushi to lose his temper but he never did. The action was fantastic when they were going right at one another and trying to find way to avoid/counter each other's stuff.

Thread for Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch from Takeover Added star rating to my reviews as well.
-
If nothing else this match will always be a watershed moment for women in mainstream wrestling. Sasha, in particular, was well thought of before this match. But after this match, people started talking about her as being the best in the WWE, if not the world. The match itself starts out with some back and forth exchanges leading to Becky ending up with the slight advantages at the end which force Sasha back on her heels. Sasha fires back in a big way by blocking a Becky kick and yanking her down to the apron by grabbing her arm. Sasha follows that up by spending the next several minutes just torturing Becky's arm, with the big highlight being Sasha bending back Becky's arm with her foot. I did like Becky's comeback leading to a good near-finish with the armbar, even if her selling was a bit spotty along the way. Didn't like the finish though as Sasha basically has to no-sell not just being thrown into the steps after her dive, but also the arm work, by putting on the Bank Statement with Becky right by the ropes. The last 90 seconds is what keeps this from being in the top tier of women's matches for the year. ****1/4
