  5. CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING MID-SOUTH COLISEUM MAY 15 WINNER IS IN TONIGH’S SOUTHERN HEAVYWEIGHT TOURNAMENT Too Cold Scorpio defeats Big Money Marcus with the Corkscrew Planch is a match that showcased a huge contrast in styles. SOUTHERN HEAVYWIEGHT TOURNAMENT: ROUND 1 “The Nature Boy” Buddy Landel defeats “The Franchise” Shane Douglas in a wild finish that saw Dutch Mantell rush out before the match and crack Douglas with the bull rope from behind. The ref couldn’t do anything about it since it was before the match, and he called for the bell like normal. Douglas gave it his all, but the pre-match attack allowed Landel to get the win as he rolled up Douglas for the pinfall with a handful of tights. “The Superstar” Bill Dundee defeats “The Dirty White Boy” with Ron Wright with a piledriver as Dundee was able to survive all the questionable tactics by both The Dirty White Boy and Ron Wright. “The Hustler” Rip Rogers with Terry Powers defeated “The Fab One” Steve Keirn with a Ripperplex after Terry caught Keirn with a pretty good right hand while the ref admonished Rogers for illegal tactics in the corner. “The Rebel” Dick Slater defeats Too Cold Scorpio with a swinging neckbreaker in a match that proved Slater didn’t care if its friend or foe squared off against him. Too Cold continued to wow the crowd but at one point Slater locked in the Figure 4. While Too Cold Scorpio was able to eventually break the hold, he was tremendously slowed. SOUTHERN HEAVYWEIGHT TOURNAMENT SEMI-FINALS “The Nature Boy” Buddy Landel defeated “The Superstar” Bill Dundee by count-out as Dundee was clobbered with the ringbell in another attack by Dutch Mantell. This was all possible because Landel was being berated by the ref for a questionable low-blow. It seems like Dutch was fuming over not being included in the tournament so he was taking it out on those he thought were responsible… Shane Douglas and Bill Dundee. Things got real exciting after the match was over as Shane Douglas came out and FINALLY was able to catch Dutch and caught him with a belly to belly suplex. Dutch’s bodyguard, Jeff Gaylord, was next to the ring as he tried to save his boss but he to was meet with stiff resistance and was nailed with a piledriver by the Superstar! Buddy Landel was happy with his win and simply walked away from the chaos. “The Rebel” Dick Slater defeated “The Hustler” Rip Rogers with Terry Power. While the last match was pretty long and drawn out this one was much quicker. Rogers seemed to be really confident and was dancing around… shadow boxing and toying with Slater. It seemed like he was trying to impress Terry with his show, but Slater is not to be messed with…. WHAM… Huge right hand by Slater and down goes Rogers. You could hear Slater yelling “NOW WE GO TO SCHOOL” just loud enough that everyone was sure that Landel heard him in the locker room. Slater then locked in the Figure 4 even though Rogers was out cold. The ref quickly made the 3 count and Slater tossed Rogers away like a rag doll. Terry came in cautiously to help her man but she never took her eyes off of Slater in case he came back for more. STEEL CAGE MATCH Brad Armstrong, Tim Horner & Bob Armstrong vs Boris Zhukov, Soldat Ustinov and Shaska Whatley This rematch from a few weeks ago has an added measure of danger with the steel cage and all the wrestlers involved made sure to use it to abuse their opponents but, in the end, we get the same result as the crowd was ecstatic as The Bullet connected with the Georgia Jawjacker on Soldat for the win. SOUTHERN HEAVYWEIGHT TOURNAMENT FINALS “The Rebel” Dick Slater vs “The Nature Boy” Buddy Landel Awesome back and forth match. Slater used pure brawling tactics to gain his advantage while there was no level of cheating that Landel didn’t try. Back and forth we go. The wild ending saw Slater reverse Landel’s Figure 4 and really lock it in. Landel is somehow able to drag himself to the ropes to force the break, but he is in trouble. He uses the ropes to help him get to his feet but Slater stalks him like a dog. Landel demands the ref get Slater back as he is in the ropes. Slater just keeps coming. WHAM… Landel shoves Slater with everything he has. Slater collides with the ref and down goes the ref. The problem for Landel is that he has nothing left. Slater comes in with a big right hand and down goes Landel. The ref is still down. Slater just keeps on the attack. WHAM… Piledriver by Slater… ref is still down! The crowd starts screaming…. WHAM… from under the ring comes…. You won’t believe this…. It’s Tommy Rich and he has just clobbered Dick Slater in the head with a chair. Rich now drags Landel on top of Slater and goes and shakes the ref. As the ref stirs, Rich rolls out on the floor. The fans are screaming at the ref. 1…2…3! “The Nature Boy” Buddy Landel is the new Southern Heavyweight Champion!!
  6. LAKEFRONT ARENA MAY 6 Snowman is in the crowd and has a seat near the front row. Brad Rheingans defeats Shaun Simpson in a rare Mid-South babyface vs babyface match as he was able to stifle Simpson’s aerial tactics and countered it with a technical ground game and got the win after a big gutwrench suplex. Alofa (Ted Dibiase's 400 pound bodyguard) with Sheik Adnan Al Kassie defeats Mighty Goliath in a battle of the big man as Alofa got some help from Sheik and then connected with a middle rope Giant Splash for the win. The Texas Outlaws (Dick Murdick & Stan Hansen) defeated The Assassin & The Cuban Assassin in a nasty brawl that saw Murdoch hit the brainbuster on the Cuban Assassin. JYD defeated Moondog Moretti with the Big Thump “Ragging Bull” Manny Fernandez defeated Vader with Woman when Woman accidently hit him with a chair as she was swinging at Fernandez. Fernandez was then able to hit the Flying Burrito on Vader. Mid-South TV Title Match Rick Steiner © defeated Eddie Gilbert vs Missy Hyatt by DQ as Steiner was attacked by two blonde men who had not been seen in the Mid-South before. The match had been controlled for the most part by Steiner but due to the nonsense of Missy Hyatt, Gilbert did have his moments wrestling from the top. The two newcomers attacked as Steiner looked like he was getting ready to put Gilbert away. The 3-1, or 4-1 if you include Missy Hyatt and her nails and purse, was just too much for Rick. The crowd exploded as Scott Steiner rushed to his brother’s aid. While Scott did help to balance the numbers, eventually he takes a pretty good beating as Hot Stuff Inc leave the ring with smiles on their faces while two Steiner’s are down in the ring. Mid-South Tag Team Title Match Hercules Hernandez & Scott Steiner © vs The Barbarians (Konga & Nord) with Sheik Adnan Al Kassie The problem here is that in a match with such tough, strong men, everyone needs to be at their best or there is going to be a problem. With Scott Steiner just taking a beating from Hot Stuff Inc. he was not ready to face the Barbarians. While Hercules tried to make up for it and Scott gave everything he had, not being at 100%, cost the champs in the end as Nord hit the face first suplex on Scott and Konga made sure Hercules couldn’t make the save. For the first time in 6 months, we have New Tag Team Champions! Mid-South Title Match “The Total Package Lex Luger © with Woman vs Hacksaw Butch Reed While everyone is on the edge of their seats for this one, most still have one eye on Snowman. He continues to make a ruckus throughout the match especially when Hacksaw is wrestling from the top. At the later stages of the match, Hacksaw is in control and connects with big move after big move. While he can’t quite get the pin, he seems to be getting closer. In fact it was 2 ¾ count after he connected with the diving shoulder block. Reed is upset by the count and slams the mat. Snowman is up and screaming at Reed. He is so loud that Reed notices. Snowman starts coming over the steel divider that separates the fans from the ring floor. Security rush him. He is knocking them down one by one and heading to the ring. Finally, he is grabbed by about 8 men but they are still struggling. After a long struggle, it looks like his momentum has been stopped and he is being dragged backwards towards the exit. Reed seems to refocus… WHAM… To late! Running lariat by Lex Luger. 1…2…3!! Snowman for the second straight month at Lakefront Arena has stopped Reed from winning the Mid-South Title! STEEL CAGE MATCH LOUISIANA HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH Ted Dibiase © with Sheik Adnan Al Kassie vs Jake “The Snake” Roberts with Paul Ellering The rules in this No-DQ cage match are simple… you can win by pinfall, submission or escaping from the cage and reaching the arena floor. As for the match, this one has it all but let’s first give credit to the cage as it does its job. Alofa did accompany Dibiase to the ring but no matter how many times he tried to get into the cage to help his boss, the 400-pounder was kept at bay. The same thing can be said for both Sheik and Paul Ellering. As for the actual match, almost anything you can think of happened. We saw each wrestler showing a lot of color as they were tossed into the cage, had their faces grinded against the cage and were simple abused by the cage. We also saw some false finishes as Dibiase somehow powered out after a DDT and the Snake was able to reverse a nasty Figure 4 that left him hobbling for a few minutes. The Snake seemed on the verge of victory after a top rope elbow drop but Dibiase moved at the last moment and Snake was hurting. Dibiase then headed for the easy victory going through the door. Somehow Roberts grabbed caught Dibiase and the two struggled. Eventually, Roberts was able to slam the cage door off of Dibiase’s head. The ending was crazy as we saw a nasty double clothesline where both men struggled to get to their feet. Roberts was up first and went for the heroic path to victory as he tried to climb over the top of the cage and to the floor for the victory. Once again Dibiase caught the Snake and the two battled on the top rope. Eventually Snake won this segment and sent Dibiase crashing to the floor after he followed an eye rake with a knee to the gut. Snake continues with his climb to the top of the cage but you can tell by his slow pace, exactly how tired he is. Dibiase begins to stir on the floor and sees his only chance to save his title is to escape through the door. He begins his long crawl as the doorkeeper unlocks the cage. Snake is over the cage and begins his decent down the stage. Dibiase still has ½ of ring to get across… They each continue towards victory… Snake leaps from the cage towards the floor…. He is about to be the new champ…. WAIT… Alofa has caught Jake Roberts and is holding him from the floor. Snake is struggling to break free. Here comes Paul Ellering. He takes out the knees of Alofa but he still holds Snake. Dibiase rolls out the door to the floor…. Snake is dropped by Alofa and hits the floor… Depending on where you were sitting, you have a different opinion of who won the match. We need to wait for the ref’s decision. THE WINNER AND STILL LOUISIANA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION…. TED DIBIASE
  7. I know I have said this before, but this is so realistic. You use the Power Half Hour to hype up the show and sell tickets. Gene use to do this also and it is just so fun to follow.
  8. Mid-South releases Ray Candy, Cpl. Kirchner, and Mongolian Stomper,
  9. Great show... The ending was so crazy that any kid in the arena will remember that bout for the rest of their lives. I have been to one wrestling show in my life and will never forget the bodyslam Andre the Giant put on Sgt. Slaughter at the Westchester County Center. You gave everyone fan in the audience something to get excited about no matter what type of match they like and you did it in only 4 matches. We get the babyface vs babyface match, the big heel win in the tag team match, a wild 6 man-tag with the fan favorites getting the win and a mixed gender match. Nice booking!!
  10. Mid-South then acquires Jack Victory and John Tatum from PCW for future considerations. Mid-South also releases the Rock n Roll RPM's
  11. Mid South reclaims Bret Sawyer as he was released by mistake. Mid-South then sends Bret Sawyer, Tonga Kid, Todd Champion and Curtis Thompson to the NWA for Adrian Street and Ms. Linda.
  12. Mid-South releases Bret Sawyer and Italian Stallion
  13. Yes on Tiger Mask 2. Chono is good for ever as he has 10 matches in the U.S. in the year 1988.
  14. I am going to take the other side. I think with wrestlers from Europe and Asia, I would like to hold to a 10 match in one year before they are eligible. I just think that is more realistic. I know we have made some mistakes before but would rather keep that in place. As far as how long they stay, I think that once they have shown they are going to stay for a few months, it is conceivable that they stay for the long haul. I think we have such a large pool of wrestlers already with their only being 7 of us that our rosters would get even more bloated with stars if we allowed anyone in as long they came to North America for one match. There is nobody here who can say that there roster is short on talent on then IPW and he said that he is enjoying what he currently has. The rest of us are like WWF vs WCW in terms of rosters. Tiger Mask rarely ever stayed for more then two matches. Keeping him for 3-6 months is very different then his usual weekend trip to wrestle in some big event like the Crocket Cup like he did in 86.
  15. CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING ASSOCIATION: EPISODE #8: April 29, 1988 The traditional CWA opening is played with some music being played as we see all the big stars of Memphis past hitting big moves. One exception is there is no Jerry “The King” Lawler in the intro. (As the show starts, with see Lance Russell and Dutch Mantell. Absent from the opening scene is Dutch’s bodyguard Jeff Gaylord. Lance Russell: Yeeellow Everybody. Lance Rusell alongside Dirty Dutch Mantell. By golly we’re ready to fire off another great week of championship wrestling. This is professional wrestling like it used to be and the way you like it. On today’s show you’re going to see The Fab One Steve Keirn in action. Rip Roger’s is here, and he is trying to get back on winning side as he takes on none other than JJ, Jeff Jarrett. And speaking of the Jarretts, The CWA president, Jerry Jarrett will be here with a huge announcement about the Southern Heavyweight Tournament. The Franchise “Shane Douglas is back in action as he takes on the Assassin and Dutch why don’t you tell everyone about the big 6-Man main event. Dutch Mantell: Before I get to that main event, I just want everyone to know that I hope the Assassin takes care of that psychopath Shane Douglas. I mean, I’m here today without my bodyguard so if the Assassin doesn’t do his job, it could be curtains for old Dirty Dutch. Now as far as that 6th man main event goes, Shaska Whatley and The Big Russians, Boris Zhukov and Soldat Ustinov are going to take on the Lightening Express and a mystery partner. Now I doubt thay found anyone any good as nobody would want to be there partner. Lance Russell: Come on Dutch. You know the Lightening Express are one of the best teams in the entire world. Dutch: In the world of make believe. Mark my words, the Lightening Express are in for a world of trouble tonight. MATCH #1 “The Fab One” Steve Keirn vs Larry Cheatum Keirn had the fans eating out of his pockets from the first chord of “Go Fabs Go,” He controlled 90% of the match; with Cheatum getting in a few blows when he turned to the questionable tactics. This only made Keirn angry and he had no problem going blow for blow with Cheatum with the end coming from Top Rope Diving Senton. Commercials + Promos for upcoming events in Memphis, Evansville, Louisville and Nashville Next to the podium is Jerry Jarrett where he has a huge announcement on the Southern Heavyweight Tournament. Jerry Jarrett: I’m really excited to let all the fans know that the Southern Heavyweight Tournament is going to be just over two weeks from now. It is going to be held on Monday night, May 15th. Historically, Mondays has been the biggest night of the week in Memphis Wrestling as it was the night we wrestled in the Mid-South Coliseum. Well, I am so proud to announce that May 15th is not only the night of the Southern Heavyweight Tournament, but it is also the night we here at Championship Wrestling will return to the Mid-South Coliseum. This night marks the first time in over 4 years that the Championship Wrestling will host an event in the Mecca of professional wrestling. As for the tournament itself, we wanted only the best of the best so we narrowed it down to only 8 wrestlers. These eight wrestlers will wrestle in a single elimination tournament that night. Right now, I’m going to announce 6 of those wrestlers. They are, in no particular order, The Fab One, Steve Keirn, The Franchise Shane Douglas, “The Rebel” Dick Slater, “The Nature Boy” Buddy Landel, The Dirty White Boy, and “The Hustler” Rip Rogers. Lance Russell: My oh my, Jerry, that is one heck of a field. Any one of those wrestlers could win the whole thing. Dutch Mantell: Hold on. Hold on just a minute Mr. Jarrett. I know that I spend a lot of my time here as a commentator but I’m also undefeated here in Memphis since our return. Jerry Jarrett: That is true Dutch and you’ve had a great history here in Memphis but to tell you the truth, you’ve only wrestled once since our return, and you sit here week after week claiming to be afraid for your life of Shane Douglas. Dutch Mantell: Shane Douglas is crazy… He isn’t a wrestler. He’s an escapee from the asylum. I’ll wrestle anyone else and prove to you that I belong in that tournament. Jerry Jarrett: I’ll tell you what Dutch. We still have two wrestlers to add to the tournament. Next week, I’ll give you a match right here on tv and if you win, you can have one of those opened spots. Dutch Mantell: To me that seems like you don’t want me in the tournament, but I see no other choice. Next week I will beat whatever loser you put in front of me. Jerry Jarrett: Okay, fans, in next week’s main event it will be Dirty Dutch Mantell vs “The Superstar” Bill Dundee for a spot in the Southern Heavyweight Tournament… Dutch Mantell: WHAT!!!! YOU TRICKED ME JARRETT!!! Lance Russell: (laughing) … Dutch, the situations you get yourself into never cease to amaze me. Fan’s you just heard it… Superstar Bill Dundee is returning to Memphis and if that’s not enough, he will face Dirty Dutch right here on TV. Let’s get back to today’s action. MATCH #2 “The Hustler” Rip Rogers vs Jeff Jarrett “You Give Love a Bad Name” is heard from the speakers and Rip Rogers comes to the ring in his normal pink vest and pink tights. Jarrett is already in the ring and seems to watch the nonsense without a care in the world. Rogers once again grabs the house mic and starts his gimmick. Rip Rogers: What I would like to have right now of is for all you fat and out of shape sorry excuses for men who are sitting here reliving your glory days, to be quiet so I can scan the audience for one good looking woman to help me remove my vest. Rogers circles the ring looking out to the stands and he keeps making a face like he is smelling something rotten. Suddenly, its like a lightbulb has gone off in his head. He starts to smile. Rip Rogers: I don’t believe it! A needle in a haystack. Finally, after 2 months of searching, someone worthy. Worthy of my attention. Worthy of my time. Worthy to touch my vest! You darling… are about to have a thrill of a lifetime. Suddenly the camera sees the girl he has picked, and she is making her way to the ring with a huge smile on her face. Rip Rogers: Now darling, what’s your name? Random Girl: Terry Rip Rogers: Well Terry, are you ready for the thrill of a lifetime? Terry: I think so. Are you? Rip Rogers: Well aren’t you full of confidence. Terry: Ummm… Rip Rogers: Hit my music! Rogers begins a seductive dance as Terry begins to pull off Rip’s vest. Rogers is sure to give a little extra flex and allows Terry a little time to grope the biceps. Rip Rogers: Now darling, have you ever seen anyone in as perfect shape as me. Terry: I honestly must say I have! The crowd begins to laugh as Rogers seems shocked and upset. Suddenly, Terry removes her sweatshirt and reveals a body equally as fit as Rips! Rip Rogers: Wow, you are full of Big Surprises! I think we need to get to know each other a little better. How about you sit ringside and watch me teach this young punk a lesson. Terry: Deal! Once Terry Power has stepped out of the ring, the bell sounds. Give Jarrett some credit here, after waiting patiently for the whole vest thing to play out, he is ready to go. Jarrett seems one step ahead for most of the match. Lance Russell keeps reminding everyone that JJ grew up in the business and seems to have been a great student. One the other hand, Dutch is convinced that Rip’s mind is elsewhere. In the end, Rip whips JJ into the ropes where Terry Power trips him. Lance Russell: Come on! What’s that all about? Dutch Mantell: I told you before Lance, Jarrett isn’t ready for the big time. He’s so clumsy. He just tripped over his own feet. Rogers is now able to take advantage and works over JJ until he is finally able to connect with the Ripperplex (Superplex) for the win! Commercials + Promos for upcoming events in Memphis, Evansville, Louisville and Nashville MATCH #3 “The Franchise” Shane Douglas vs The Assassin Interesting thing here is that the Assassin, yellow mask and black singlet, seems to have a good 30 pounds on Douglas. In terms of the match, we get a brawl from the opening bell. Surprisingly, Douglas holds the upper hand for most of the bout. At about the 6 minute mark, Dutch Mantell, who has been frustrated from the beginning, heads to the ring where he starts screaming at the Assassin to crush Douglas. This does nothing but to enrage Shane who goes nuts. Dutch is now up on the apron. Big Mistake! WHAM… Running football tackle on Dutch and he goes flying to the floor. WHAM… Belly to Belly Suplex on The Assassin. 1…2…3! The Franchise is not satisfied with the win. It is almost like he has smelled a rat! He quickly starts to untie the mask of the Assassin and rips it off! To the fans surprise, the Assassin turns out to be Jeff Gaylord, the bodyguard of Dutch Mantell! Douglas holds up the mask… points to Dutch Mantell and gives him the throat slashing sign and starts to come out after him. Lance Russell: Wow… I never knew Dutch Mantell could run that fast. He must’ve been a track star back in high school. The Franchise is in hot pursuit but I don’t think he’s going to catch him. I also don’t think we’ll be seeing much more of Dutch this week. I guess I should send a thankyou note to Shane Douglas for that! Commercials + Promos for upcoming events in Memphis, Evansville, Louisville and Nashville MAIN EVENT MATCH 6-MAN TAG TEAM MATCH Boris Zhukov, Soldat Ustinov and Shaska Whatley vs The Lightening Express and a Mystery Partner The heels come out first and are waiting in the ring. Everyone, including Lance Russell, is wondering who the mystery partner is but they do not get an immediate answer as Brad and Tim come out alone. Lance begins to wonder if his partner, Dutch, could’ve been right when he said that Brad and Tim couldn’t find a partner. Suddenly the speakers begin to blare “Bad to the Bone.” Lance Russell: Oh my… I guess there’s no better place to turn to when you need help then to your family…. Here he comes! “The Bullet” Bob Armstrong! Everyone is shocked as the heels begin to scurry! Once the match starts, the fan favorites are able to capitalize on the initial energy of Bob Armstrong’s entrance but after some dirty tactics by the heels, the match seems pretty even. We get a typical 6-man bout where everyone gets a little time to shine. The end is simply chaos as all 6 men are in the ring in a complete Pier 6. Brad and Zhukov are trading blows out on the floor. Horner and Shaska are brawling on one side of the ring and The Bullet and Ustinov on the other. Somehow, the Bullet ducks under a big right hand by Ustinov… WHAM… Georgia Jawbreaker by Bob Armstrong. 1…2…3! Lance Russell: What a wild match with a perfect ending. The Bullet shows up and the crowd favorites get the victory. I be the Russians and Whatley are going to lose some sleep tonight. Fans, don’t forget to be here next week when the Superstar returns to Memphis as Bill Dundee takes on Dutch Mantell for a spot in the Southern Heavyweight tournament. Until next week, Lance Russell and Dutch Mantell saying bye bye every body.
  16. The other thing on Tiger Mask 2 is that according to our rules, a wrestler has to wrestle 10 matches in the U.S or Canada in a current or future year to be eligible. Tiger Mask has not reached that as of 1988 and never does wrestle 10 matches in U.S. or Canada in any year. Again, my research is only from wrestlingdata.com so there may be more info out there.
  17. I would like others opinions on Tiger Mask 2. From the research I found, he wrestled 2 matches in the U.S. in 1986 and then didn't return until after 2000. I might be wring on that and if I am, please let me know. I know we have allowed a few others to come in early but not sure he has enough North American experience to be included here. Please everyone, let me know your thoughts.
  18. I do think that once a wrestler is on your roster, you can use him as you see fit as long as it is a character they used in real life. I have rushed Shane Douglas into the Franchise even though he was not that until 1993 or so. I had Wahoo McDaniel just play a huge heel role even though, technically, he is way past his prime. I think Rain used Darryl Peterson as Maxx Payne before he was that in real life. We have all held on to wrestler's glory days far too long and made rookies play bigger roles then they were ready for. In my opinion, it is more important to be try and be realistic with talent instead of name. Where Ultimo Dragon or Yoshihiro Asai is in terms of ability in 1988 is more important to me then the name he uses. If others disagree, I am always for majority rule as this is all of our game and we have equal say.
  19. I am fine with Ultimate Dragon with WCW. He was active in 1987 and we are in 1988
  20. Mid-South Wrestling 1988: Episode #16: April 22 & April 29, 1988 To be honest, I’ve had a bit of writer’s block with my Mid-South show but wanted to keep on heading into my next big event at Lakefront Arena in New Orleans on May 6. So, I just decided to give a summary of the next two shows before New Orleans. Angle #1: Ted Dibiase and Jake “The Snake” Roberts Jake was to wrestle Ted Dibiase on television on April 22 in the main event in the Rapides Parish Coliseum. Ernie Ladd had laid down the law on the previous show and said that if The Barbarians, Alofa, Mike Rotundo or Sheik Adnan Al Kassie interfered in the match, the title would automatically be handed to Jake Roberts. As the show progressed on April 22, Jake Roberts had yet to be seen in the locker room. Just as his match was to start, a bloodied Snake is being led to the podium by Paul Ellering. Ellering is screaming that he found Roberts laying in the parking lot and that it was obvious that he was attacked by one of Dibiase’s minions. Dibiase came out and promised he had nothing to do with it and was frustrated because he just wants to beat Jake Roberts one more time and put all this nonsense behind him. It was obvious that Snake was in no shape to wrestler as Dibiase snickered about his misfortune. Ernie Ladd came out and promised that the cameras would be checked and that Dibiase better be right that he had nothing to do with. Not wanting to upset the fans, Ernie Ladd informed the Louisiana Heavyweight Champion that he would still have to defend his title tonight and that Jake Robert’s replacement would be Junkyard Dog. Dibiase went berserk but there was nothing he could do about it. As for the Dibiase-JYD match, it went right down to the last seconds of the tv show and as we were running out of time, JYD catches Dibiase with the Thump (powerslam) but before he could make the pin on Dibiase, Alofa and The Barbarians made the save.? Gordon Solie ends the show thinking that due to Dibiase’s stipulations for his match tonight with Jake Roberts, that JYD will be the Louisiana Heavyweight Champion even though he won the match by DQ but we will have to get word from Ernie Ladd on next week’s show. Fast forward to the April 29 tv show in The Cajundome in Lafayette where some very interesting developments occur. First, Ernie Ladd informs us that since JYD was a last-minute replacement for the injured Jake “The Snake” Roberts, they only had time to use a very basic contract and that there were no stipulations allowing the title to change hands on a disqualification. JYD, the fans and even Gordon Solie were very upset with this decision, but Ernie Ladd said there was nothing he could do about it. Ladd did say that he had some other information that might make everybody a little happier. He said that he was able to do a little research of the attack on Jake Roberts last week in the parking lot of the Rapides Parish Coliseum and that, without a shadow of a doubt, the person who attacked Jake Robert’s was Mike Rotundo. Gordon asks if Jake Roberts was the new Louisiana Heavyweight Champion as it was stipulated that any outside interference, Dibiase would have to turn his title over to Jake “The Snake” Roberts. Ladd replied that Dibiase was still the champion as the attack did not occur during the match, but that Mike Rotundo has been indefinitely suspended effective immediately. The fans seem happy Rotundo is gone but aren’t happy that Dibiase is still the champion. Last bit of information on this angle is that Jake “the Snake” Roberts will be getting another show at the Louisiana Heavyweight Title on May 6th in the Lakefront Arena… this time… in a STEEL CAGE! MID-SOUTH TELEVISION TITLE Ever since Rick Steiner won the TV title, Eddie Gilbert and Missy Hyatt have been very jealous. So jealous in fact that they attacked him and kicked him out of Hot Stuff Inc. On April 22, Eddie and Missy interrupted an interview after Rick’s successful title defense against The Grappler and demanded that Eddie get a TV title match. Steiner is so sick of both Eddie and Missy that he wanted the match that day and headed to the ring. Eddie looked a little nervous at how hyped-up Steiner was that he hesitated and then Missy grabbed the microphone and said that Eddie already had a busy schedule and has not prepared for the title match but that he would be ready on March 6th at the Lakefront Arena. Steiner laughed and gladly accepted. MID-SOUTH TAG TEAM TITLE: The title match between the champs, Hercules Hernandez and Scott Steiner and The Barbarians managed by Sheik Adnan Al-Kassie has been set for Lakefront Arena now for a few weeks. All we get on the April 22nd and the April 29th shows are a few heated promos and one big stare down where the champions dared the Barbarians to enter the ring, but Sheik decided to let them stew for another week. Whichever team wins this match, is sure to have survived a war. Mid-South Title Match: While any match between Lex Luger © and Hacksaw Butch Reed is headlines enough, the big story here might be the Snowman. While he surprised everyone last month at the Lakefront Arena when he attacked Hacksaw in his title match against Luger, he now has everyone expecting the worse. He confronted Reed a few weeks ago on TV and was real angry at Reed and Ladd. He said they were both Uncle Tom’s to Ted Turner and that he would not allow someone like Reed to win the Mid-South title. It is obvious to all that he is just angry and not getting the wrestling job he wanted here in Mid-South, but he has everyone on their toes as he has vowed to be at Lakefront Arena on May 6th. Hacksaw better have eyes in the back of his head. The Ragging Bull Issue: Manny Fernandez has only been in Mid-South a few weeks but seems set on making Vader’s life miserable. Two weeks ago, he did a little history lesson on Vader and reminded everyone that just last year, he was known as The Bull, Leon White where he won a few matches and lost a few matches. Manny reminded everyone that he left for about 6 months and returned with Kevin Sullivan and Woman and these two lunatics want everyone to believe that they changed Leon White into some unbeatable monster. Fernandez lets everyone know that there is only one Bull in Mid-South and that’s him and he wants Vader in the ring. Woman came out with Vader and confronted Manny and laughed at his idea that he could’nt even last 5 minutes in the ring with Vader. Manny accepted that challenge and headed to the ring. Unfortunately for the Ragging Bull, Vader Pearl Harbored Manny and gave him a pretty good beat down. Last week, Manny, recovered from the attack, demanded Ernie Ladd to sign a match between Vader and himself, and Ladd gladly added it to the May 6th event in the Lakefront Arena. OTHER MATCHES SIGNED FOR MAY 6th AT LAKEFRONT ARENA Alofa with Sheik Adnan Al Kassie vs Mighty Goliath The Texas Outlaws (Dick Murdick & Stan Hansen) vs The Assassin & The Cuban Assassin JYD vs Moondog Moretti Brad Rheingans vs Shaun Simpson
  21. Thanks for the kind words but to be honest, I hit a bit of a mental road block in Mid-South and had to write my next two shows as a summary. Thanks for the patience.
  22. Really fun Power Half Hour. I love the segment with the fine on Dark Journey for a few reasons. First, you know your audience really well. Most of use would have fined her much more but knowing the poverty in Arkansas, those fans would think $100 would mean a lot. Also the extra $100 for the slap was priceles
  23. I really enjoyed all the back and forth with Larry Nelson. I could just picture his head shake and eye roll. Very historically accurate. I am really glad the Harris brothers are with you. You always make great things out of people I struggled with. I always wondered what wrestling in Alaska would be like. I beat this is going to be one tough crowd. Poffo vs Idol is very interesting to me. Can't wait to see were you go with this. You are so good at changing gears from show to show and this was no different. Awesome job.
  24. Snuka and Kamala.... very interesting. Dusty... don't trust Ivan.... WCW has a few curve balls right now, can't wait to see where you go with this.
  25. Awesome week in Arkansas. I really like how you use your Power Half Hour to hype up your hose shows. This is not only very realistic but also a smart way to bring in the money. Great use of the women. Starting with 2 and maybe building to 4 would give you a solid division. Just love how you know exactly how to get the most out of your roster. Great shows with little cost. So very Arkansas!
