  1. I have, its not as good as Dark Side of the Ring.
  2. Thank you ragemaster. You eloquently and sensitively said what I attempted to say in a far less sensitive and far less eloquent manner. I thank you.
  3. CS, before debating further with you, I've got to ask, how old are you? Because I find when talking to people currently in college or recently out of college about this sort of stuff there is no room for nuance, or motive, or understanding of generational differences. Somebody who rants against Islam must be Islamaphobic, it can't be more complex in that the person finds all organized religion abhorrent and has detailed critiques of why they believe religion is inherently evil. Cornette's ramblings are no different than the opinions that you would hear from Bill Maher or Christopher Hitchens on the topic of religion and Islam. Somebody who uses the word "transvestite" instead of "cross dresser" (or whatever is the appropriate PC term at this moment) must hate people of different gender identities and people of different sexual orientations. He can't just be cracking a series of jokes about every wrestler in that dumpster fire of a battle royal Saturday. All in all, I find Cornette to be very knowledgeable about wrestling. He also has strong opinions, doesn't give a fuck if he offends people, and refuses to change with the times. All of which make him interesting to listen to.
  4. But I don't really think he's a bigot. Is he intentionally provocative to get attention? Yeah absolutely. Does he use terms that are currently pejorative? Yeah occasionally. Is he bigotted? No not really.
  5. I'm about halfway through it, Cornette basically has the same criticisms people here have said about the show. I didn't catch him say "transvestite" but a comment like that wouldn't stand out in the midst of him colorfully and hilariously shitting on every garbage indie guy on the show. And AEW speaking out would just be getting down in the muck with the worlds greatest mud slinger so that's not a good idea. It would be a good idea to just stay above the Jim Cornettes and not give him a spotlight.
  6. 200k would be a huge number. As a reference the last two UFC PPVs have done 100k and 75k on buys. In boxing this year Garcia vs Spence did 360k (a number that sounds like bullshit) and Khan vs Crawford did 150k.
  7. So finished watching it earlier today. Overall I really enjoyed the show. My only gripe is that the first half of the show was full of Chikara/GCW level indie guys who look like somebody playing wrestler rather than an actual pro wrestler. The only way that Battle Royale could be less impressive was if they added the Mulkey Brothers. A major wrestling promotion shouldn't have room for some of those people as anything other than enhancement guys. With that said, I thought Stronghearts vs SCU was a fun opener and a great way to kick off the PPV. The next two matches had some moments but were not good. The joshi 6 man was good. Dustin vs Cody was my MOTY. Bucks vs Lucha Bros was solid and Jericho vs Omega was good. So 4 good matches and 1 great match on a 9 match card isn't bad. The thing I liked the most about the show is that they managed to build anticipation for future shows and lay out whats next for all of their top guys. Its refreshing knowing the Bucks are going to wrestle the Rhodes on the next show and that somewhere down the line we will get Jericho vs Page and Omega vs Moxley. All of their top guys are placed in a position where I'd be willing to pay to watch their next match. I can't remember the last time WWE did that.
  8. As forward thinking as Khan and Cody seem to be I'm surprised they are running with a traditional PPV at traditional PPV prices. I would have thought they'd have gone the avenue of a streaming service ala ESPN plus or DAZN much the way UFC, Bellator, Top Rank, and Golden Boy all have done.
  9. Agreed. 90s AJPW still had frequent draws. 70s and 80s AJPW regularly had draws and DQ finishes as did promotions like Mid South where wins really carried weight. There’s two ways to protect top guys and make their wins matter that I’ve seen, DQs and draws or frequent tag matches where the junior heavyweight or outsider takes the fall and top guys ( Misawa, Okada, Hashimoto, etc) are never pinned. I don’t see AEW jobbing out the smaller guys as their top stars are smaller guys.
  10. I'll make sure to hunt it down. I half expected it to be a dumpster fire, looking at the card for that show it felt like CMLL trying to get the same buzz they got bringing in some of the outsiders they brought in last year but without having to spend money on bigger names and quality talent.
  11. ^ No not really. I don't know who Satin is nor do I give a fuck. I was simply reacting to you calling people who disagree with you idiots and stupid and you're persistence that you are right and anybody who disagrees with you is an idiot because you have the "inside scoop." I have no dog in this fight, as I have no idea who Satin or Conrad are. I just find you obnoxious.
  12. But draws and DQs are an avenues to make wins and losses matter. Having nothing but clean wins and losses every week devalues a clean win as we've seen from the past 5 to 10 years of WWE programing. And I completely understand Pac not losing clean outside of DG, its up to whoever books him to understand that too. AEW will run into the same problem with some of the other workers who are top guys for their home promotion. They've got 45 to 50 guys under contract with more than half of them working for other companies so this is going to keep happening as they fill the middle of their cards with guys from other promotions.
  13. Everybody knows that guy who thinks they are important because they've rubbed elbows with somebody who is famous. Rovert is PWO's version of that guy. The more somebody drops names and insists on his credibility the the less credible that person sounds. Combine that with passive aggressive attacks on anybody who points these things out, and Rovert just comes off as delusional. It is kind of sad really.
  14. A while back DAZN was rumored to be in discussions with AEW. Anything ever come of that, I mean DAZN is a pretty great streaming service.
  15. Whats the Village Green?
  16. Wow the DAZN presentation of Canelo vs Jacobs was some Jim Hurd era WCW level shit I'll tell you. First off you got GGG going full heel turn. He's in the stands dressed like Micheal Jackson meets Dion Sanders on draft day and he's only conducting interviews through his interpreter. His interviews which he gives in Russian, despite being pretty fluent in English, are full heel worked shoots, just shitting on Canelo and Jacobs. Then you have Brian Kenny announcing and he's doing every thing he can to get Canelo over as not just the top babyface but the top fighter in the world. Some of his claims were laughable, he acted like Canelo was running away on the scorecards the whole fight when really it easily could have been a draw.
  17. @Petrois I didn't submit a ballot because I wait until the last minute to do almost everything and I just didn't get around to it. I planned on doing it and I enjoyed participating in the process but I just missed the deadline.
  18. This year's Champion Carnival has been really good.
  19. So why wasn't Alicia Fox also let go?
  20. So why was he let go?

Does this card exist on film? Please tell me it does Terry Funk Presents Summer Sizzler June 17th, 1982. 22. Who knows anything about this show in Amarillo Terry Funk's Summer Sizzler? Pretty Amazing card! https://www.cagematch.net/?id=1&nr=99043
  23. For this thread I think the entire Dragon Lee vs Kamatachi/Hiromu Takahashi series deserves a mention. There's been more cool dangerous athletic spots in those matches than anything I've seen in recent memory. I also want to mention the one Fenix and Pentagon spot where Fenix jumps onto Pentagon's shoulders and then backflips to the outside, craziest spot I've ever seen.
  24. But I think the difference is Gorrilla Monsoon, Jesse Ventura, and Jerry Lawler while being cartoony gimmicks were top stars as wrestlers prior to being announcers. So their gimmicks actually lent credibility and name recognition despite being cartoony. Excalibur was not a top star. Only people who followed the SoCal indie scene in the mid 2000s ever saw him work so its not a fair compairison. Don Callis isn't going by Cyrus or The Jackyl anymore is he?
