  1. Was wondering as it relates to this thread, when did AAA and many of the independents do away with captains falls and two out of three falls for trios matches?
  2. ^Agreed 100%. But his conviction was for a much, much lesser charge. I dunno if anybody here has known somebody or had a neighbor or coworker on the sex offender registry, they only have to disclose what they were convicted of (this happened with a former neighbor). They don't have to disclose what they actually did.
  3. Being honest, Walker worked most of his career in states where the age of consent was as low as 14. I could see his conviction not being considered all that big of a deal in the deep south of the 1960s and 1970s. To be honest it seems like every famous person I know of from Memphis in that era seemed to run around with underage girls. Different time, different place I guess.
  4. Best I've seen - Rey Mysterio Jr., El Hijo del Santo, & Octagon vs. Psicosis, Blue Panther, & Fuerza Guerrera 3/17/95 Favorite- LA Park and Lucha Bros vs Rush and Briscoe Brothers 8/3/18 or La Famila Real vs Los Ingobernales 5/25/18
  5. Miz. Hands down. For two years he was pushed as the top heel over CM Punk and Randy Orton which is fucking mind boggling. Charlotte is one of the two or three most talented women they have so her being pushed as such is perfectly fine. To me its more a matter of how poorly they've under promoted some of the other talented women they have rather than over pushed Charlotte.
  6. Isn't Jericho pretty much always working when on social media?
  7. If you're trying to convert a friend, family member or significant other into being a wrestling fan how would you do it? What episodes, promos, matches, would you show them?
  8. It looks like Roy Lucier's youtube channel that had all of the AJPW TV from like 88-91 and late 93 to like 99 got taken down.
  9. Undertaker vs Mankind HIAC and Mankind vs The Rock I Quit. There was a line in the sand as to what was an acceptable level of real danger and real violence in a main stream wrestling product. These matches took their shoe and erased that line, then walked way down the beach and drew a whole new line. Sure (fill in the blank of your favorite garbage wrestler) had been doing crazy stupid shit for years, but these matches legitimized crazy stupid dangerous shit to a mainstream American audience and are still considered part of WWE cannon. As such they strongly influenced mainstream style for the following decade or so. The Low Ki vs American Dragon series in the early 2000s. Between 2001 and 2003, those two faced off over a dozen times in probably a half dozen different indie promotions. It may have been the first time two wrestlers that small (5'9" 175 and 5'7" 165) had been presented as the main event. Nearly two decades later we barely even blink at the notion of someone the size of a JV outside linebacker as a main event pro wrestler. They didn't just change the game appearance wise, stylistically they were really the first in the US to successfully blend shoot style strikes, catch grappling and throws, cruiserweight style athleticism and dives, and Strong Style psychology. Their early matches were almost cosplaying BattlArts. This became the in-house style of ROH and Evolve. This style also trickled into WWE in recent years as more and more ROH and Evolve guys ended up in WWE. Shawn Michaels vs Ric Flair (WM 24), Undertaker (WM 25 and WM 26) People complain about the "self conscience epic" style of main even that has taken over the landscape of WWE, NXT, NJPW, and All Japan. The style of match that now seems to dominate the main events of every big show. You know the characteristics- Over dramatic, cartoonish, acting for lack of a better word, multiple false finishes, exaggerated selling for the cheapseats, potentially dangerous bumps and dives, etc, etc. That style which you may love or hate, all started here with Shawn Michaels and his last few Wrestlemania appearances.
  10. Yep. I dunno if anybody else here was a regular at the indie shows in the mid-Atlantic area (ROH, ECWA, MCW, etc) the way I was as a kid, but Feinstein was always a fixture there and he was always friendly with the teenage kids. If you and your friends were at an ECWA show one week and and ROH show the next he remembered you and your names, remembered your parents names, he'd reach out on AIM or myspace to make sure you coming to the next show. He was kinda nerdy, but no more nerdy than anybody else at a wrestling show. It never felt weird. At the time it felt like that bartender who always takes care of the regulars. A few years later I was a freshman at college and news broke about the trouble he'd gotten into and it was like wow he wasn't just this good hearted if slightly awkward guy, he was a predator who was trying to groom the kids who went to those shows.
  11. I did not elaborate on legal troubles.
  12. So I dunno how everybody else has been doing during quarantine, but I've been watching a lot of wrestling. Like hours a day. I've also been at my mother's place like almost every day. Fast forward. I'm at my mother's place and watching some old Ring of Honor on my laptop while procrastinating from doing real work for my job and this conversation happened. Mom "Is that Ring of Honor?" Me "Yep" Mom "What was his name, that nice young man, Robbie Something, he ran those shows you boys went to when you were in middle school. He was such a nice young man and so good to you boys, always giving you those video tapes and t shirts and things." Me "Yeah, his name was Rob" Mom "Whatever happened to him, you boys ever hear from him?" Me "Not in a long time, he's had some legal trouble." So yeah my mother vividly remembers Rob Feinstein as the nice young man who would come up to my friends and I when were were about 14 or soand give us free merchandise when she took us to wrestling shows.
  13. Is Jeff Lynch still around? He always had the best VQ for Japanese wrestling back in the day. Dan Ginnitty would be another guy to ask.
  14. Not really. There are clips of Robinson's time in Florida online but I don't know of any full matches.
  15. I've seen it said (around here and other places) that the greatest calendar year ever by a worker was Billy Robinson from December 1975 to December 1976. Its truly a great run- multiple world title matches in Florida vs Funk, multiple NWA Florida championship matches against Brisco, a 5 month reign as Southern Champion, and time limit draws in Japan against Jumbo, Inoki, and Dick Murdoch, and a GME candidate vs Baba. So my question for discussion is this, what wrestler(s) would you consider to have had the greatest year in wrestling?
  16. With Wrestlemania and NXT being relocated, are any of these shows going to take place?
  17. Meltzer's assertion that Tanahashi has more charisma than Kobashi is fucking ludicrous. Kobashi had the best babyface fire up outside of Hulk Hogan and was able to garner sympathy better than anybody not names Ricky Morton. Kobashi had multiple matches where the entire arena was moved to tears. I don't see any fans having the emotional connection to Tanahashi where they are moved to tears.
  18. AJPW's roster from the 90s blows 2010s NJPW out of the water. I think Okada's total body of work as a babyface ace may eventually eclipse Misawa and Kobashi, however I don't think Okada's peak either as a worker or as a draw even comes close to those two so far. Okada's only 32 and hasn't had any serious injuries. Both Misawa's and Kobashi's work was on a major downslope by that point in their careers. If anything I see Okada getting better over the next few years, I envision his career arc to be more similar to Akiyama or Tenryu, where he ends up with two and a half decades of really good if not quite perfect matches as opposed to Misawa, Kawada and Kobashi who had 6 to 8 years of perfect matches.
  19. Yeah the current All Japan ownership doesn't own any of the classic footage. TV footage is owned by the TV station and commercial release footage is owned by Baba's family.

    AEW Revolution

Liked the show overall. Thought the tag match was great, if not a little bit overkill. The Bucks are just so much better as heels I don't understand why they don't just go with it all the time. Page is now a made guy. I thought Cody MJF was perfectly ok, but maybe a little underwhelming for how hyped I came into the match for. Ditto for the main event. Nyla Rose is going to kill somebody, seriously she's strong as a brick shit house and as awkward as a baby giraffe, thats not a safe combination. Orange Cassidy might not be my cup of tea, but he is as over as any comedy act I've ever seen.
  21. If you haven't heard about this yet, here are some of the details as I understand them. Brett Dibiase was indicted for embezzling from his father Ted Dibiase's faith based non government organization. At the same time, Brett Dibiase ran the Mississippi Department of Human Services during which time that government agency awarded $2.1 million in welfare funds to Ted Dibiase's non profit some of which ended up in Brett Dibiase's pocket. Anybody down in Mississippi know more than this or know more accurate details than whats being said online?
  22. How do i get my hands on Kingston vs Park from last night?
  23. Cornette discussion always makes me think of this
  24. As if Nomura will still be wrestling in 5 years with the bumps he takes.
  25. Wasn't average attendance for the Flair vs Steamboat matches in 89 only like 6,000? Those matches happened at a low point for NWA/WCW so its not fair to compare to Omega's NJPW run. I've said it before here, but I feel as though if you gave any half way decent gaijin in that spot where a big 2 year long push was followed by main event programs with Okada, Jericho, and Tanahashi and they would have drawn the same. Jay White and AJ Styles attendance number as champs and as top gaijins are slightly better that Omega in that same spot. If there's to be an arguement about Omega as a draw, its not that his run didn't draw well, but rather it drew well because of who he was working with and he drew comparably to other people who were in that same spot.
