  1. Update: it ruled a lot! Athena/Thunder exceeded all my expectations, Lee Moriarty feels like that next technical darling of the biz, fuck Sons of Texas, THAT WOMENS FOUR WAY! THAT GODDAMNED MAIN EVENT! ROH just always delivers on huge shows, my issue continues to be this "brand" deserves more eyes on it than Honor Club can offer them.
  2. This felt like a great sprint of a match but not even in the sense that it's all gas, no brakes. It was like a nice little preview of what they'd end up doing in longer form later down the road, and at the end of the day this is still Perfect getting that initial big push so he had to go over Bret. I watched this thinking "what IF this initial attempt at a Bret singles run had gone on in 89?" Amazing finish with the roll through holding tights, really solid atmosphere and any Schiavone WWF stuff is a gem in my eyes.
  3. I really dug how this thing starts with a fuckin' all out brawl, no illusions that there's gonna be order. Eddie already had strong presence even though he's clearly the greenest of this match. I hadn't seen enough Mando before this but I was blown away by the just total piece of shit heel work he could do all the while being very capable athletically. That little drop down into a lariat is dope and something modern tags could learn from. It's all about El Hijo del Santo being picked apart and Blue Demon Jr. being a stupid twat about it. In all seriousness, this ruled in every way! The redemption of the technicos is just masterful here, del Santo gives me all the goods I ask of him since he's just about the coolest luchador I've seen so far. Lame as hell finish but I'd imagine it was to protect the technicos.
  4. Yeah I gave NXT a try this week and just can't understand how they think her first major thing on TV is...tagging with Grace? I'm sure it's leading to her big full heel turn on her and a title angle but I don't give a fuck also?
  5. Wrestling Playlists brought me here and I'll be frank, I started the Yearbooks section of the database and this video pounced onto me like it's a Monty Brown TNA squash. The horrid Madness inspired dancing in the streets, the awful lip-syncing, and then the actual wrestling bits would strobe in and I suddenly am very excited for come Catch! Seeing baby Owen was heartwarming. As previously mentioned, Akira losing his mind in the back is just amazing. Otto was a visionary, of what I'm not sure.
  6. Totally agree this ruled and felt like the highest of stakes, something that IWGP Women's title has struggled with in the past.
  7. Same here Johnny is just super chill and hilarious. Too often, I feel like people take wrestling WAY too seriously and he's always there to bring things back down to the silliness of it all. Also, I can confirm that as a male adult my friends are indeed stupid motherfucking cocksuckers but they're cool!
  8. These shows make my Mondays awesome. You guys continue to make me laugh, look up random shit, and clamor for more.
  9. Taz in WWF. For a guy that was such an interesting character and top guy in ECW, he just never worked in WWF.
  10. Of course Vince has warped into George Steinbrenner circa 1996-end of his life. Someone who still shows the qualities and actions that made his despicable, but beloved and untouchable by the fanbase due to product on the field (Attitude Era, mainstream cred, etc). And Triple H is untouchable because he is the NXT figurehead. Trips would have to turn heel on NXT to get back any genuine crowd heel heat. My friend and I have been joking that Vince is hitting the "self-destruct" button on any chance of WWE becoming huge again because he's old and realizes sooner than later he'll be gone and doesn't want the company to thrive after him. I think while that's obviously an exaggeration, if you look at creative it may be true. Lately they've been fantastic but as most of us that have been around a decent amount of time know, that can change in a second.
  11. I couldn't disagree more actually. For once this felt like it meant something and I was very impressed with the staging of the match. It didn't feel like a four way clusterfuck as much as it felt like a battle that each man was fighting towards becoming the champion. I loved the hot start with Owens being taken out of the equation for a while and Miz was just fantastic with his character work. I felt like the match was really solid and a low end MOTY for me. I get your criticisms though, a lot of the finish segment was congested and felt really overdone but so much more of the match worked for me.
  12. Couldn't have said it better and I actually had this thing at 4 myself but I totally get giving it a smidgen more. Just great work on the mat and high drama where it needed to be.
  13. It is incredible how quick and enjoyable these shows are. Despite having heavy amounts of things to cover, you guys always deliver with the good shit.
  14. I managed to finish the whole archived shows during the GWE madness so when this popped up, I was beyond pleased. Johnny Sorrow for life!
  15. Did not expect such love for Emma but I totally agree. How she's been lately makes you realize what the NXT brass saw when she had the silly gimmick. I also feel like Becky is getting so awesome.
  16. When's the last time Scott Hall had a genuinely good match? And I mean something which featured a really strong performance from him, not just "well, that three-way with Jarrett and Sid wasn't too bad". Also, they were screwed from the start by the booking. I don't think the WWF crowd really gave a shit about the Outsiders in 2002, they were mostly just excited for Hogan's return while Nash and Hall rode on his coattails. Putting Austin into this feud was seen as a step down for Stone Cold, who should never be wrestling a sub-ten-minutes match deep in the undercard of Wrestlemania against a worker whose finish Austin can't even physically take. It doesn't help that Hall was trying to wrestle a Rock-type sprint, and simply didn't have the ability to do that and pull it off. Scott Hall is like Tony Romo. Scott Hall is a guy who is simultaneously better and worse than what you think he is. When he is good, you don't understand how anyone could think he's not one of the best in the world, but when he's bad he's really fucking bad. I honestly think that Scott Hall is up there with Barry Windham on pure talent. He's just not someone who ever really maximized that talent. I think you said it perfectly, supreme. Hall was always a guy that was inconsistent as fuck but when he was on, I'm not sure there are too many people that are better than he was. I'd say that by 2002 everyone was beyond sick of the whole nWo motif and yes it was clear that the whole revamp was a vehicle to bring Hogan back to the WWF fold. Hall was truly done by 99 in my view though, I think my source of disappointment was the build because as Jingus put it, no one gave a shit.
  17. The whole booking of the match didn't help either. There was no point in even having the match because neither guy is better off for having been in it. I do agree though that is was a mess and the finish was especially lackluster.
  18. I'm surprised that Steve Austin vs Scott Hall isn't on here. I understand both guys were definitely passed their primes, I felt like that match could have still been much better. Didn't help that the build was god fucking awful.
  19. I just don't get this "don't vote with your biases" argument. Literally anything that you do in life has a bias attached to it, and that's just human nature. Wrestling is beautiful because it is actually INCREDIBLY diverse. That's not saying that there aren't obvious metrics to think of when ranking such but it does say that at the end of the day, I would say the vast majority of the ballots were filled to the brim with favoritism. That is ok, also. I know that mine was.

  21. The thing that amazes me is how really both careers weave around each other in a way. When Flair hit his stride in the early 80's, Funk was "winding down" and after his WWF run did movies while Flair just got better and better. To me, that is why the '89 feud is so great because in so many ways it was the old guard coming back to find that this younger, fitter guy had taken his thunder and it drives him nuts. Both guys are the complete antithesis of each other in some ways but in others, they're much the same. Funk parlayed his prestige into the then-popular deathmatch style and created a whole new career for himself while with Flair, he did much of the same after WCW died. The indeliable image that made me see this comparison was the Flair-Big Show ECW match with Flair on his knees telling Show to bring it just torn to bits. tl;dr Funk and Flair are the pinnacle.
  22. At the end of the day, we're all equally nuts and rational. That's just the joy of wrestling I feel and I agree, these shows are ace. Also, this DVDR History pod has me so pumped.
  23. I'm beating a dead horse but I feel like Funk was so much more entertaining than Flair and that's actually a compliment to Flair. To me there's no one in the history of wrestling as memorable as Terry Funk regardless of what era you've seen of him. I love Flair for his peak, because it is safe to say Flair's peak is the greatest in the history of wrestling but there's just so much garbage from old Flair that it taints my view on him quite a bit. Whereas in the Funk case, even his most recent stuff makes me smile and sometimes even mark the fuck out. To me it is simple: name me someone that evolved as well as Funk did through the years? To me that is his biggest positive.
  24. The lower end of the top 10 legitimately shocked me. Like what has been mentioned, I feel like anyone that gets top ten votes has a strong case for the top. I was shocked that Danielson ranked so high as well as Rey. This list is epic.
