[1999-12-17-ECW-Nashville, TN] Mike Awesome vs Masato Tanaka
tim replied to Loss's topic in December 1999
I liked the roster coming out to watch this, the idea being, I'm guessing, that when they heard this match was happening they had to see it because it's always so spectacular. It's a good iteration of the match up and I liked how the angle introduced it. Interesting that they do a title change on a house show at a time they're doing PPV and weekly TV.- 6 replies

[1999-12-16-WWF-Smackdown] Mankind vs Al Snow (No Holds Barred)
tim replied to Loss's topic in December 1999
Super fun match. I do love a good garbage brawl when it's done well. Al Snow sure was flying high getting to work a major program involving late 1999 Rock, which has to be one of the 10 hottest runs in wrestling history. -

Sort of like ECW's answer to a low-key but well worked C show match. Good stuff.- 4 replies

I guess I leave the year being relatively cold on this FMW stuff. It's all fun enough to watch but nothing that really has a strong impression on me. This was good and all, I especially liked the very opening stuff with Gannosuke and Tanaka. Ending stretch was solid work but a bit too long.

[1999-12-13-WWF-Raw] The Rock & Mankind vs D-Von & Bubba Ray Dudley
tim replied to Loss's topic in December 1999
Fun piece of overbooking. The Rock is on fire at this point, the visual of the crowd going mad for the people's elbow is great. -
[1999-12-11-ARSION] Ayako Hamada & AKINO vs Etsuko Mita & Mima Shimoda
tim replied to Loss's topic in December 1999
Wow, this match ruled! Everything was awesome, the performances were great and it went through a bunch of different phases all adding to the overall match. Started off really hot with some big dives and then settled into a really good workrate style tag but with a nice added intensity. Then they went into some crowd brawling with Shimoda and Mima coming out on top, bloodying up Hamada and AKINO and settling into control for awhile. Hamada and AKINO get a really hot short comeback with a great looking stereo dive, but Shimoda and Mima use the chairs to get back into control for a little bit, but Hamada and AKINO finally launch their big comeback. Home stretch is really great with Hamada and AKNO fighting from beneath but still always in it, featuring some great spots and spectacular moves -- there was an especially great looking sunset flip off the top. Very nice flash ending at the end with an appropriately big move pulled off well. Great great match. I'm not too familiar with anyone in this match and this was a nice out of nowhere classic for me.- 10 replies

I liked the very beginning and the run of big spots from Toyota featuring a dive onto a table and off the balcony, but outside of that this didn't impress me. Just lots of not particularly interesting move trading.

[1999-12-10-NJPW-Battle Final] Genichiro Tenryu vs Keiji Muto
tim replied to Loss's topic in December 1999
What we have here is really good. I'd be interested in seeing the whole match but even if the whole match were just a sprint of what we got here, it would have been damn good. Lots of intensity, hot crowd and a real feeling of a fight. Mutoh's Pele kick was cool.- 5 replies

http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/envelope/cotown/la-et-ct-republican-debate-fox-news-20160304-story.html FOX News drew 16.9 million viewers for the last debate to see the follow up to the slow-burn Trump vs. Megyn Kelly angle from last August. This was their second highest viewed broadcast ever -- second only to that August debate which drew 24 million viewers. Conclusive proof that the key to a boom is finding one megastar and building around him. It helps that he is in a particularly hot angle that has involved the whole promotion. The cross-promotional Trump vs. Hillary Clinton angle planned for this Fall is sure to draw huge ratings.

Like Liger/Juvi, feels like a match that could be a lot better than we got, for obvious reasons. That said, it was fun while it lasted.

This match kept getting better as it went along. Started off feeling like a fun low-key Battlarts tag and by the end was pretty damn great. I really liked Malenko here, and the other team going after his leg was a pleasantly long-lasting theme in the match. I think my favorite stuff might have been with Mochizuki and Usuda, especially towards the end where they had a run featuring lots of big spots outside the scope of shoot style. Most of all this match made me really miss the Battlarts style.

Damn, what a match! Glad to see 1999 still delivering high end MOTYC matches in December. This was a really heated match right from the beginning and they took it to each other with lots of wild strike exchanges and fighting on the outside. Kobashi and Hansen going against each other was always awesome. As good as Hansen was, Taue really stood out to me in this match, busting out a cool arm-trap supelx and a top rope splash. The crowd was really hot throughout and seemed really into Hansen an Taue, booing Kobashi for breaking up falls a couple times. The last minute or so they really took it to another level of intensity, Kobashi and Akiyama launch a lightning fast comeback to take out Hansen, Taue puts up a quick fight and looks like he might win out, but he gets crushed with Exploders for the win. The shot of Hansen in rage right after the bell is great. Top 10 for the year easy.

[1999-11-29-WCW-Nitro] Jushin Liger vs Juventud Guerrera

This should have been a good match, and they were having a bit of one despite some awkward moments. Dumb ending, awful distracting stuff with Armstrong.- 4 replies

Are those top two matches available online or do you still have to buy individually from Black Terry Jr? If so, how?

I liked this but it didn't register as a MOTYC quality match to me. Good stuff with fast paced action all around and a couple fantastic dives. This ref sure wasn't about to count a fall on a fisherman's suplex. Ultimo Guerrero's reverse suplex is horrifying in this one.

[2016-02-14-NJPW-New Beginning in Niigata] Kenny Omega vs Hiroshi Tanahashi
tim replied to cactus's topic in February 2016
I liked this a lot, largely because it was FINALLY a major NJPW match up that was fresh and new. Loved the suplex into the chairs on the outside and Omega did a great job selling the knee. I'm about over BC interferences but for this it was at least relatively well done. Good homestretch and I liked the dueling reverse hurricanranas, which is an overused move in a lot of places but felt new and unexpected in an NJPW heavy weight main event. I still don't like Omega's character but he looked good here and I'm looking forward to finally getting some fresh upper card NJ matches. -
I'm not sure how I'd compare this with their 2005 match, I'd have to watch them back to back. 2005 has it for the brutality but this really has some excellent psuedo-shoot work. Of course, the brutality is there too. They bring it on all fronts with the striking, submissions, well done knock downs and a real gritty fight feeling throughout. Ikeda's pele kick is a pretty spectacular highspot in the context of the match and everything that came after that was on the next level of intensity. Appropriately strong ending.

Finishing up the rest of disc 20 which I skipped when I started watching again. Damn good match here. Cool dynamics with the two new, hard hitting natives and the team of the ace and the underdog. Yakayam and Omori worked much more as a team throughout the match than Misawa and Ogawa but Misawa is still the strongest guy in there. Nice FIP on Ogawa which features some good hope spots where Ogawa manages to fight off both guys before getting taken down again. Ending is great with Misawa blasting both Omori and Takayama and then with Ogawa's assistance keeping away Takayama, pounds Omori with big moves until he's finally put away.

Man, 1999 Rock was such a star. Very funny stuff, crowd ate it up.

Really fun match. Basically an imitation of an MPro six man and they do a fine job of it. Some good dives and fast action all throughout. Boxing glove guy was a fun little novelty and they worked in some good spots and exchanges around him.

Good match with an especially good ending. Fuyuki and Tanaka collide and Tanaka follows up with an elbow that Fuyuki does a great slow-motion collapse for. Nothing stand out but good work.
