http://placetobenation.com/this-week-in-wrestling-for-september-5-2015/ It’s time to talk This Week in Wrestling. Pete & Steven are here for the first fall (1:21) and start with the NWA Classics match of the week. They look at the previously unreleased Fantastics vs Midnight Express match. How does it rank in their series? It’s then time to look at PWG Threemendous IV from July. If you are a PWG fan, you may want to skip this review. In the second fall (50:50) Pete and Steven go international and as we look at Revolution Pro TV from YouTube. A quick show worth a watch. Pete then looks through the history of WIll Ospreay and Jimmy Havoc feud from Progress. Pete also runs down the latest NJPW show which had the debuting CJ Parker and we end the fall talking a really awesome lucha match from CMLL featuring Dr. Wagner Jr., La Sombra & Rush vs Atlantis, LA Park & Volador Jr. In the third fall (1:19:09) Steven tags out to Johnny to tackle the Jimmy Snuka case. They move on to NXT and discuss the beginnings of the Dusty Rhodes Classic! Finally it’s time for Raw! All the main news items are discussed from the Dudley Boyz, Strowman to what they heck are they thinking with the beat the clock stip for the Divas segments? The whole deal with Sting is explored as well as if the Summer Rae-Lana angle was stolen from an episode of Baywatch. Also why didn’t they air the Cesaro-Owens match on Hulu Plus? Remember if you want to donate to the Toronto Zoo’s conservation programs and pledge Steven as he run’s a 5k on September 12th, go to this link: Donate here!

It's not working.

You think that or you hope that? I see no indication that there is even a small possibility that that happens.

99 for both companies was way worse.

Rusev vs Dalton Castle main eventing WrestleMania 37!
-
I was asked this doing a podcast the other night and was thinking about it a few weeks ago (or my wife asked me why which made me think about it, I forget). The answer that seems to stick out to me is I love sports. The problem with sports is the team you want to win doesn't get the great feel good moment win in the end. While in pro-wrestling a lot of the times the wrestler you cheer for usually wins in the end.

[2010-03-20-New Rochelle, NY] Mascarita Dorada vs Pierrothito
Grimmas replied to a topic in March 2010
My review from the minis thread. In short, watch this! In long: I didn't know what to expect with this being in an American Indie Fed, but I was really happy with the result. The first fall is Dorada going after the arm and doing some mat work, a real fun beginning to this one. Pierrothito takes over with his weight and does some power moves to get the first fall. Something great about Dorada is his size. Since he's so small, each slam and throw looks even more vicious. The second fall is all Pierrothito as he throws Dorada around and puts up some submissions. PIerrothito isn't too great here, as he'll slap on a hold and release it in no time then slap on another. He does do this weird Hold Dorada above his head on the floor and walk around spot, until he just tosses him in the ring. Dorada does some good selling though. Dorada's come back was great as well. He might be one of the best high spot wrestlers around. He locks in this really cool arm and head submission to take the second fall. The third fall is all excitement. Great slams by Pierrothito. Great high spots by Dorada. Eventually Dorada traps him in a pinning hold for the win. This one ranges from 3 to 3.5 stars. It reminded me a lot of those touring Rey-Psicsosis matches. Due to pre-match stips the evil manager of Pierrothito gets his head shaved and luckily Dorada does not have to wear a dress.- 2 replies

I would love for Parv to watch some Kongo Kong or some Nigerian Nightmares! -
13.09 Canadian! Just got my download and stream copy, what a great value. There will be a review of this on This Week in Wrestlsing podcast coming out a week from Saturday.

Hmm... the next pick you can pick anyone from the next 6 months, just not have them debut until then. Interesting.

Awesome. Which are heel/face?

Looking back with the Hero matches, Joe matches, Cena matches and the Brock match that is a pretty great resume over a long period of time. Not to mention all of the other really good matches and feuds he had. His career is over, which also helps him as there are the people avoiding guys in their prime still. CM Punk is one of my favourite wrestlers ever, so I have a bias, but the resume is there. I think what he has over a lot of modern candidates is the character work put into matches. He does a better job than almost everybody on portraying the story, as opposed to just hitting awesome stuff.

Schultz and Tonga Kid?? Holy shit! Love that. Yeah, I love the Russian work. Seems Mid-Altantic and Maple Leaf are embracing that aspect of the 80's.
-
Really a great sell for him. I hope he gets more votes than just us two. WWE really could had made him into Rey Jr. in WCW levels of awesome if they wanted. Just hooked a whole division around him as the star. That would had helped his case, but atleast the WWE are fools. Still his Mexico stuff, his American Indie run and his little short Honrswoggle feud gets him on my list. Initially I had him 80, but I might be able to convince myself to put him higher.
-
Thinking about DDP would he had even got a shot without the Diamond Cutter? I feel like that move was the catalyst for everything and there is no way he sniffs the upper midcard, let alone main event without it.

Any thoughts on the champion. I like Tokyo as the heel cheating his way through everyone, but at some point we will need a big title change to shake things up. Tiger Jackson (future Dink) has had his two shots and lost, so he is out. I think Cowboy Lang, LIttle Coco and Haiti Kid would be the best options. Any thoughts.

Just wanted to start a thread for mini booking. I know they are booked out by the freelancer of the month, but for other thoughts let's put them here. NWA World Champion is Little Tokyo. He is the Ric Flair of the division, cheating to retain his title all over the place. Great worker too. Other heels: Tiny Tom Butch Cassidy Lone Eagle Lord Littlebrook Sonny Boy Hayes Sky Low Low Little Brutus Faces: Cowboy Lang Little Coco The Haiti Kid Tiger Jackson Chilli Bowl Little Beaver No title changes unless authorized by Jack Tunney. We try to treat them with respect, so let's not only use them for comic relief. Comic relief is acceptable of course, but comedy should not always be the main focus. As for the term midget, I went to the Little People of America website and found this: Q: What is a midget? A: In some circles, a midget is the term used for a proportionate dwarf. However, the term has fallen into disfavor and is considered offensive by most people of short stature. The term dates back to 1865, the height of the "freak show" era, and was generally applied only to short-statured persons who were displayed for public amusement, which is why it is considered so unacceptable today. Such terms as dwarf, little person, LP, and person of short stature are all acceptable, but most people would rather be referred to by their name than by a label. Therefore Little Tokyo is now the NWA World LP Champion. Let's refrain from the term midget. Post all questions or plans here, as this is the place for conversations on this division.

As VP of Mini Operations I approve of this battle royal. Interesting that Tokyo got some cheers, but he is the champion.

I watch all art the same. Whether it be movies, books, music, wrestling. I enjoy it until something annoys me and then I try to articulate it. Afterward watching the thing I think about rating it and giving more detailed thoughts. In general though, I just try to watch and enjoy wrestling. There is a different mentality when watching something for a podcast where you know you will have to talk about it.

Observer HOF prediction/ballot question thread
Grimmas replied to dkookypunk43's topic in Megathread archive
I will say this every year and I am sorry, but this age rule is ridiculous. I don't see how anybody who is in their prime should get in, until we get some distance from that. -
I also call bullshit on it being an official term used to describe black people. It was a racist term used to describe black people used in wrestling, because most of the wrestlers were racist.
-
In Mid-Atlantic he can be the Super Russian in Maple Leaf, the Super Russian is dead. It was all a ploy by Valentine. Although Valentine teaming with a bunch of Russians works, as he is a sympathizer in the very least.
-
Yeah, there is an obvious difference between Michael Hayes and Bruce Prichard casually using the n-word in everyday conversation and the same term being an official designation for black people in the wrestling business - similar to the way the term jobber might designate a person who loses the majority of his matches. It's still horrible and fucked up either way, but I can see why he'd argue that some people are racist and others aren't - as warped as that may sound. There is no difference. It was the culture in wrestling, because the culture in wrestling was/is racist.

Not ready yet.

I think it's a very good reason for someone to reject the writings of Dave wholesale even if I don't. People reject the totality of other careers and career output for things like this all the time. As for second point, if I made the argument that within my subculture calling Dave Meltzer's wife a whore wasn't really sexist, but was merely a reflection of common use language within said group, my guess is no one would rush to defend it because it's transparently absurd. Exactly. He should had reported it as it was, instead of adding qualifiers to excuse the issue.
