  1. Dave Meltzer said that she is there to see how everything is before making a decision.
  2. If Dave was given that news by Fumi Saito or somebody else on the Stardom side, then the story about Hojo misleading the promotion could be to make Stardom look like the victim here. Dave has been pretty bold in terms of reporting Joshi news lately as he said that Arisa Nakajima blindsided JWP by announcing her becoming a freelancer and Nanae ordering the shoot of Yoshiko on Act Yasakawa. Idk about the second one but the first seemed like Arisa got wind of JWP closing and left before it happened in reality.
  3. Saw this as well and it was really quite the downer as Stardom had quickly become one of my favorite promotions. What's the connection / speculation with Mayu and SEAdLINNNG? Hadn't heard that but am also not familiar enough with the joshi scene to make heads or tails of these things. Any thoughts on who they push after the exodus or on the possibility of working more with other groups? They've done such a great job of putting together diverse cards with the strong main events featuring talent at the top while also developing and moving up the Jungle Kyona/Konami types and introducing the literal kids to the card. AZM is what, 14? 15? In a month's time she's gone from looking like someone who won a contest to hang with wrestlers on spring break to credibly working as the rookie who's learning the ropes but actually belongs in the ring. It makes such a huge difference and hasn't compromised the six man tags she's been a part of. Add to all of that the efforts they put into making Stardom World and the shows accessible for Western audiences and I really hope they find a way to eventually thrive after this big blow. Mayu was good friends with Yoshiko in Stardom and trained under Nanae Takahashi. Yoshiko did the retirement deal in 2015 after the Act shoot but turned up in Seadlinnng last year. Haruka Kato retired from Stardom last year and then showed up wrestling at a Reina show months later so the retirement is a way of getting out of the promotion. Recently, Seadlinnng had a roster page with six spots with two open spots available. One of the spots went to Sareee cause she transferred from Diana to Seadlinnng so that's why people think Mayu is next.
  4. Absolutely. If you watch MMA, you can get those sounds with certain strikes so it can be believable when done right. When Marufuji and Omega do it with knees, it doesn't bother me personally cause I think they do it pretty well and you can in a way justifiy it that sound cause of the material of their gear. But I hate it when I see people do it for headbutt spots. Nixon Newell and Kay Lee Ray were doing on the latest Stardom tour and it looked really silly especially when they were tagging with former UFC fighter Shayna Baszler. They're not the only ones that do it cause a lot of male indie wrestlers do it too and it makes my eyes roll. Anybody who has seen a real headbutt or clonked heads with someone know that the sound is a thud instead of a smacking of exposed flesh. I saw the Anthony Henry/Lio Rush match from SCI and I noticed that Henry would have his hands low and clapped when Rush was throwing some strikes at him and I thought that was awful too. It seems like a US/UK wrestler epidemic (that might be too strong of a word) for the most part.
  5. I'm gonna see the 1/29 soon so I'm glad you liked the show. If Yamashita and Mizunami jump to Seadlinnng, you can pretty mark WAVE as pretty much dead in terms of being one of the big Joshi promotions which is crazy cause of them launching their streaming service last year. I'm starting to think that we are finally seeing the impact of Kana leaving Japan cause Reina and WAVE precence have just fallen since. For Seadlinnng, I think it's brilliant Nanae is filling her promotion with wrestlers that fit her style of wrestling cause they are still relatively young. It's just that if I believe what Meltzer said in this week's Observer about Nanae and Natsuki ordering Yoshiko to shoot on Act Yasukawa (he probably got his info from Fumi Saito), then I feel even more conflicted watching Seadlinnng cause I love Nanae as a wrestler and I enjoy her shows more than Stardom honestly.
  6. Also Sareee is leaving Diana to join Seadlinnng. I thought Stardom should've went after her but Nanae isn't playing around. http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20170201-00000025-tospoweb-fight
  7. According to RIZIN's website, the wrestling matches that took place before RIZIN's New Year's Show will air on Fuji TV on December 3rd. http://jp.rizinff.com/_ct/17036148
  8. In terms of just in-ring, I would put SEAdLINNNG and WAVE at the top. SEAdLINNNG is the better total package because of the booking and a lot of fresh matchups due to Nanae Takahashi and Yoshiko being in Stardom for so long. WAVE has had quite a few great matches since the middle of last year, but their booking is aimless and their belts don't mean much. WAVE Network has been off the radar which isn't surprising given that it's not as English friendly as Stardom World and a casual joshi fan wouldn't know some of the names. I think Stardom get dumped on a bit much because of the booking, but the main difference has been that the main events haven't delivered as regularly as they use to. It would help if they booked foreigners more consistently like the men's groups and if they felt more comfortable using freelancers in important roles but they don't seem to want to do that at this time. I've hyped Ice Ribbon before, but that was more for their potential than the current in-ring. If you checkout some of their shows from the past year, you're not going to be blown away with what you see. They do have a lot of interesting young talents. Especially Tsukushi who could have a breakout year this year, Risa Sera could have a strong run as ICEx Infinity champ, plus they always have the underrated Tsukasa Fujimoto to hold things together. I do think that Sendai Girls is a bit overrated. They main events are at least good if not better but I always feel underwhelmed by the rest of the card. Meiko Satomura is Meiko Satomura and both Chihiro Hashimoto and Mika Shirahime have the potential to be big stars, it's just that their show have their fair share of disappointing matches on them. JWP has a huge hole at the top with Arisa Nakajima leaving. They do have some solid veterans like Bolshoi, Leon and Hanako Nakamori but their young talent doesn't have anyone who has much potential. When big names left JWP in the past you could always point to at least couple of younger girls who could fill that role but there is no Hikari Fukuoka or Azumi Hyuga in this group. Honestly, OZ Academy gets more frustrating the more you think about them. On paper, they could possibly be the best joshi group because of the talent that they have. It's just that the way that the promotion is booked, not just in storylines and wins/losses but also in how the matches themselves are worked, makes them a challenge to watch on a regular basis. Just look at their last show, it looks like it could be really good on paper but if you've watched enough OZ Academy you get them feeling that it's just not going to be that good. That's sad because their are quite a few workers here that could have some great matches in the right environment. I agree for the most part with this assessment. Seadlinnng and Wave has the stuff I like in my wrestling but I don't subscribe to Wave Network so I'm slowly seeing stuff as their TV show gets posted from 2016. Disagree with Sendai Girls being overrated cause they only have 5 wrestlers on the roster but also they give diversity on their cards. I thought the November Korakuen Hall Show was the best Joshi show of 2016. It had a world title match, great in ring tag match, wild hardcore match, a comedy match and a rookie match with legit talent in Hana and Mika. Stardom gets dumped on cause they are the biggest Joshi promotion sort of like people do with New Japan. They lucked up with Sendai Girls invading them in 2015 cause it saved them from Yoshiko/Act shoot. After that, Fuka and Rossy Ogawa haven't been the best bookers. I wasn't bothered by Mayu losing both times but they have to get a big win soon. I feel like they are extending Io's title reign just so they can wait for Toni Storm to come back (they are 1-1) but they also have Kairi in the back pocket with a title vs title match. Stardom is still a good product and still have the best future going forward even if Io and/or Kairi leave cause of the young talent they have with Hana Kimura, Kagestu, and Konami working their shows as freelancers and having Storm, Momo, HKZ, Jungle, Bito and Mayu full time. If they somehow got Sareee from Diana, they would be in much better shape. I feel the same about Oz Academy as they have the potential with their roster and regular TV but their stuff is not my cup of te for the most part with the constant interference. I've gotten to the point where I keep Ice Ribbon at a distance. It's similar to DDT as they have great matches but the other stuff isn't for me.
  9. The wrestling on the show wasn't that bad but there was some stuff on the show that I felt didn't work and some stuff that is stale with Stardom.
  10. SamuraiTV is gonna broadcast Kyoko Kimura's Retirement Show on February 4th. I saw the recent Stardom show and it's a letdown from the December show. Hate to repeat the broken record but the semi main and main are the standout matches once again but it didn't follow up well that I thought it would. Also, I got to see the TV Asahi Scout & Choice show with the idols doing their matches with Io & Kairi. It was what it was and not much different than what you see with shows in the states when they do a profession for a day. Reminded me of Dhani Jones doing lucha on his travel show. Only thing that threw me off was seeing Sareee, Kyoko Inoue and Keiko Aono representing Diana but I guess it was the point of the show was them to choose and they choose Stardom obviously. Still a good look for Stardom cause it played before the Wrestle Kingdom 11 Special.
  11. Well, I just did and how glad am I ! First current joshi puroresu show I've watched since... 2002 (and probably first joshi match in ten years or so, really). I kinda FF through the first part since I'm not familiar with most of these girls (although, damnit, Bolshoi Kid, in 2016 ??? Nice to see Aja and Manami are still around too). Oz is 48 and looking good. Okay, so the match is complete smoke and mirrors and dog & poney show, with not much at first except some funny bullshit from the Academy (damn, Police. POLICE ? Still around ? One of the new girl is smoking hot too), then goes into the complete absurd with the entire roster hitting spots on Oz the on Dynamites (including... hugs and kisses !) which was quite funny. I didn't expect the girls going hardcore though. Damn, Oz, all 48 years old Oz (sporting a great bicolor Dynamite tribute outfit) litteraly killing herself taking a million backdrops and that sick table spot. Ok, she's officially the female Terry Funk in my book. Plus, and I'm not kidding, she sold way better at then end than either Omega or Okada did at that Dome show thingy. Damn, Oz. She even pulled out a fake finish that worked with the small package. I cringed at the footstomp. Damn, Oz. I'll be honest, I enjoyed this way more than the "greatest match ever". I give this 7 stars. Well. Then comes the retirement ceremony, which is all great and moving. Hell ! That's Carlos Amano ! Cool to see Devil in complete obasan mode and Akira, whom I would not have recognized, but the hair and the curvy body all indicates she probably is healthy again (right ?). So cool. Cuty doesn't look all that different from when she retired 18 years ago. Aja gives Kansai one last bump (great one too). Lots of cry and stuff. I always struck me that in this business of fakery, these joshi retirements were always so real, so far away from any kind of manufactured emotion we get elsewhere. And for obvious reasons. Green streamers and that's a wrap, 30 years and you call it a career. I'm really glad this thread gave me the urge to watch this. Great stuff that reminded me that I was right to be a super joshi puroresu fan when I was one. Total respect for these women. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think you should check some more Joshi puro cause the scene is picking up. It's not on the level compared to ten years ago but the wrestling is enjoyable recently.
  12. The fact they are honoring Plum's memory to this day is way cool. I don't doubt it. Dynamite was one of my favourite from the mid-90's when JWP was the little promotion that could ! After her illness she was never the same and it was kinda sad to watch her in the early 00's already. Did anyone else from classic JWP showed up ? I don't think so but I would have to rewatch the show. But Devil Masami did send in a video congratulating her. Old school AJW alum like the Jumping Bomb Angels, Aja Kong, Bull Nakano (I think but they might have edited her off the show like they did Kandori) along Akira Hokuto sending in a video. El-P, I think you should check out the Retirement Show. The match between Ozaki vs Kansai isn't the greatest but it's fun with Oz Academy tropes. Also Oz pays tribute to Plum every year when the Anniversary of her death comes.
  13. TVCast for the Roku
  14. I 100% agree with this. Hot take culture penetrated today's society that we were gonna see this in wrestling someway and it's gotten to the pro wrestling community. It's hard to fight against it cause technology has helped us view way more wrestling than we could have 5 to 10 years ago so it trickled to the consumer wanting more. I agree that there is so much wrestling that there's something for everybody cause I felt the same way as rzombie (who started the thread) a couple years ago around 2013-2014. I had taken a years off from watching wrestling and was shocked that New Japan was on the rise, Noah had fallen and Davey Richards had a 5 star match. But as time went on, I found I got more interested in the current stuff but also old Lucha and old Joshi got me more involved in a weird way. It's not much different than the music scene as there is something for anybody. I feel really disconnected with current music now but it doesn't make me stop listening to old stuff. And sometimes it leads me to new stuff that I would have never listened to. It can be done with wrestling too. I know I've read rzombie's writeups and that made me look for older Joshi shows, etc. Like Othani's Jacket said, let the kids have their fun with current wrestling.
  15. Well, the next challenger at Korakuen is gonna be Viper again. Maybe the perception is that she got a higher profile cause she's on the World of Sport show and they can sell more western subscriptions for Stardom World. I think it would make more sense if Kyoko Kimura challenged instead.
  16. Yeah, 1108 compared to 970. I'm shocked. I thought it would draw a poor crowd cause of NYE. Maybe it was the crowd that was gonna stay for the DDT show and I can see that crowd digging IR.
  17. Well, here's my review of the 12/22 Stardom Show. I really battled back and forth with rating the Io/Mayu match. I thought it was fantastic but my rating was to me splitting hairs. http://wrestlingwithwords.com/stardom-year-end-climax-12-22-16/
  18. 1. I'm open to testing this out and I think it's a good idea. 2. I think you have to build a list or workers and promotions to choose from like how cagematch and wrestling data does it. Maybe this thread should get moved to the Pro Wrestling Section so more people can see it.
  19. Just finished the 2/18 show in full and it was pretty fun stuff. There's a match with Gami against Jessie Bennett and it shows Gami as the bad m'fer. It's clunky at times only cause of how green Jessie Bennett is but it's fun. Reggie Bennett faces Rie Tamada and it isn't bad either. I disagree with Jetlag with the trios match at the end not being much as I enjoyed the match a lot as it was your mindless fun mulit person match and sometimes you need that variety in wrestling. If you want to stick to just shoot style, skip it but definitely watch it if you want to see a crazy six man tag.
  20. I think the mixed tag tournament stuff is the King and Queen tournament and I've been looking for that stuff online for a while. The Queen Bee shows I'm talking about are the shows that Battlarts themselves ran all women shows in the late 2000s. They had Queen Bee matches on Battlarts shows with Kyoko Kimura, Toshie Uematsu, Carlos Amano, Chihiro Oikawa, Ray, and Kana (NXT Women's Champ Asuka) to name a few and they a couple of all women's show after that. I recently just saw some of this stuff and mentioned on the DVDVR board that enjoyed Kimura's stuff since she's retiring in January. Jetlag's review of some of the 2/18 matches made me rewatch the show since I'm off from work today and the Candy/Fukawa opener is awesome. I remember watching the show earlier this year and falling asleep during it. Had to be due to lack of sleep cause that match ruled. ARSION is something that I've seen here and there throughout the years but I think Jetlag's reviews is getting me to finally watch the full shows I have but never sat down and watched.
  21. Funny that you mentioned that the Candy/Gami match could be copied by Evolve as I've always thought the appeal of EVOLVE was that they've tried to model aspects of Battlarts. I want to know what everyone thinks (including El-P and Othani's Jacket) about not only ARSION but also similar stuff like Yoshida's IBUKI promotion and the Battlarts Queen Bee matches and shows.
  22. Based on tonight's Korakuen Show, Stardom is gonna be interesting in 2017.
  23. They have been really fun and doesn't waste on action. I even re-watched Arisa vs Yoshiko to see if it was **** like I thought it was and it's still that. Also made me realize Nanae Takahashi is one of the most underrated wrestlers in the world right now. Wonder if she did a better carry job of ODB than she did in the ROH match.
