Loss
I do. But I think there was more to that than just "Kanyon is gay, let's bury him". I think that's more an example of the company being generally petty than homophobic specifically. I just know that people like Pat Patterson and Jimmy Miranda who have worked for the front office have typically been beloved.

Bix
I do know of one prominent poster on this board who will call people out on being anti gay in wrestling turn around and use gay to insult the fanbase of a particular company and wrestling style he doesn't like.Saying that Dragon Gate is marketed in Japan as socially acceptable porn for women and gay men isn't homophobic, it's a fact, and it has nothing to do me with not liking the style. El-P
Dragon Gate seems fascinating. Wrestling marketed with gay overtones isn't anything new in Japan. AJW in the 80's was deep into lesbianism. Hell, LLPW has always been a total lesbian wrestling promotion.
Dylan Waco
Related sidenote - I love how the homophobic stuff like this is always accompanied by requests/demands from the person who issues the slurs for some sort of sexual act to be performed upon them. I.E. boo to The Rock because he's gay, hey Rock suck my penis...

Ditch
Cena lost a battle rap to Big Show. Show came out and just killed him. Cena responded with several variations of "You're fat". http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8obwy_jo...ap-battle_sportAbout 2:30 in. And yes, Show definitely gets the better of it. Bob Morris
Part of me wonders if Cena should have instead spent his time poking fun at Rock's days as Rocky Maivia, but that might have generated true heel heat... which may be what's best for Cena but not what WWE wants at this time. As far as gay jokes go, it just seems to be the easy way for any wrestler trying to get heat, knowing that wrestling fans, in general, easily respond to cheap heat. I don't think it's because every wrestling fan is a homophobe... they just easily fall into the "cheap heat" trap and respond to it.

kjh
I went to Dragon Door's debut show a couple of day's after the 2005 NOAH Dome show. Crowd was noticeably much more feminine and metrosexual than any of the other shows we went to.
ohtani's jacket
Assuming they have a gay fanbase, that's hardly surprising considering it's marketed to Japanese women in their twenties. The whole idea is stolen from Johnny's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_%26_Associates), and I assume those guys have their share of gay fans too. Victator
Seeing the actual promo the complaining here is a bit much. Cena just made fun of Rock's kids movies where he dressed like a tooth fairy and wore a tutu. There would be something wrong if he didn't make fun of him for those movies. Clayton Jones
I was looking forward to watching it after all the positive reactions and was disappointed all around as well. Not just because of the tired old gay jokes but because of the content and rhymes in general. The pin wheel line was especially bad to the point he needed a prop just so people would know what the hell he was talking about. Comparing one of his movies to Brokeback Mountain, okay so his movie was similar to a critically acclaimed hit that won multiple Oscars. The only good lines were about the Rock professing his love for the fans but leaving them high and dry. The ADD camera work or Michael Cole blowing a gasket afterward didn't help matters any. Cornette always gets a pass for his rampant gay insults and it's one of the main reasons I don't consider him one of the absolute best promos of all-time. He's still up there but to have to depend on that stuff is just lazy.
sek69
If you think he used the pinwheel as a prop so people knew what he was talking about, you might have missed the point a little.

1004Holds
Meaning? He pretty much said that he could suck his dick. Not that it matters, because all that did was give Rock more ammunition. I don't why Cena keeps doing that. It makes no sense, especially for a face. He even does it in actual interviews. kjh
Comparing one of his movies to Brokeback Mountain, okay so his movie was similar to a critically acclaimed hit that won multiple Oscars. Bruce Mitchell had an interesting theory about this in this week's Torch Newsletter: Rock didn’t go to Witch Mountain he went to Brokeback Mountain, and, gasp, Rock actually played a gay character in a major motion picture. What does that tell you, but only if you’re a sixty-six year old out-of-it old puppet-master who could never imagine playing a gay man in the movies, on television, or in the ring, because, eek, what might people say? Seriously, John Cena tried to suggest The Rock was gay. That’s all WWE has got?
Bix
That does make sense: Vince really didn't want Rock to take the part in Be Cool so I can see him coming up with something about that as an insult for the promo.

Yeah the implied fellatio didn't go over anyone's head, my point was that they obviously thought that mentioning a pinwheel without having a visual representation would lose people. Which it would, I haven't seen a pinwheel previous to that since I was a kid. It was a terribly contrived line.

Victator
Im pretty sure the only reason Brokeback Mountain was brought up was because he was in a movie called Witch mountain. Rock was in a movie where he wore a tutu and dressed like a fairy. How is Cena not suppose to bring that up?
