Loss
Revised proposed list. This takes us to 40 matches. We can aim to include them all, but what would be the 5-10 matches you would suggest cutting first? I put the ones I would say to cut first, but let me know if I'm wrong. I know you probably haven't seen all of these, so I'll just ask what you would be least interested in seeing? I think the Omori matches may be easily cut since he's not someone who has been all that represented heading into 1998 and I don't think those matches would be too missed. New matches added in bold. Mitsuharu Misawa vs Jun Akiyama (AJPW 01/26/98) + Mitsuharu Misawa, Jun Akiyama & Maunakea Mossman vs Kenta Kobashi, Johnny Ace & Johnny Smith (AJPW 02/14/98) (I like the idea of including this because there aren't exactly a lot of Misawa & Lower Ranked Partners vs Kobashi & Lower Ranked Partners matches out there) Kenta Kobashi & Jun Akiyama vs Masahito Kakihara & Yoshihiro Takayama (AJPW 02/28/98) Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue vs Steve Williams & Gary Albright (AJPW 02/28/98) (Finish only) + Mitsuharu Misawa vs Johnny Ace (AJPW 02/28/98) + Kenta Kobashi vs Johnny Ace (AJPW Championship Carnival 03/21/98) Toshiaki Kawada vs Takao Omori (AJPW Championship Carnival 03/22/98) (Cut?) Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue vs Kenta Kobashi & Johnny Ace (AJPW 06/05/98) + Toshiaki Kawada vs Kenta Kobashi (AJPW 06/12/98) + Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue vs Yoshihiro Takayama & Masahito Kakihara (AJPW 07/19/98) * Jun Akiyama & Hiroshi Hase vs Kenta Kobashi & Taiyo Kea (AJPW 07/19/98) * Gary Albright & Yoshihiro Takayama vs Akira Taue & Jun Izumida (AJPW 07/24/98) (Finish only) + Kenta Kobashi vs Jun Akiyama (AJPW 07/24/98) + Mitsuharu Misawa, Jun Akiyama & Satoru Asako vs Kenta Kobashi, Johnny Ace & Johnny Smith (AJPW 08/22/98) * Mitsuharu Misawa, Jun Akiyama & Satoru Asako vs Toshiaki Kawada, Yoshinari Ogawa & Takao Omori (AJPW 08/23/98) * Jun Akiyama vs Yoshinari Ogawa (AJPW 09/11/98) * Toshiaki Kawada vs Masahito Kakihara (AJPW 09/11/98) * Kenta Kobashi vs Akira Taue (AJPW 09/11/98) + Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue vs Kenta Kobashi & Jun Akiyama (AJPW 10/11/98) + Mitsuharu Misawa & Takao Omori vs Kenta Kobashi & Jinsei Shinzaki (AJPW 10/24/98) (Finish only) + Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue vs Masahito Kakihara & Yoshihiro Takayama (AJPW 10/31/98) Mitsuharu Misawa vs Kenta Kobashi (AJPW 10/31/98) + Vader & Stan Hansen vs Kenta Kobashi & Jun Akiyama (AJPW Real World Tag League 11/14/98) (This or 11/21 but not both?) FLIK
Vader & Stan Hansen vs Kenta Kobashi & Jun Akiyama (AJPW Real World Tag League 11/14/98) (This or 11/21 but not both?) Vader & Stan Hansen vs Kenta Kobashi & Jun Akiyama (AJPW Real World Tag League 11/21/98) (This or 11/21 but not both?) On 11/14 Hansen & Vader wrestled Misawa & Ogawa Neither the 11/14 or 11/21 Vader/Hansen matches were anything special I thought * Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa vs Kenta Kobashi & Jun Akiyama (AJPW Real World Tag League 11/30/98) * It's a bit too bad that Sammy's version looks to be even more JIP (just 6:30 of 30:00) than the NTV version. Yeah, I'd skip it just because of that Kenta Kobashi & Jun Akiyama vs Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue (AJPW Real World Tag League 12/02/98) Is there a full version of this? The Sam TV Ep I have only airs like 8 mins Kenta Kobashi & Jun Akiyama vs Stan Hansen & Vader (AJPW Real World Tag League 12/05/98) + Thought this was the best match of the league, atleast from what aired on Samurai TV. Wasn't blow away great but I enjoyed it a lot. I remember thinking Ace/Bart Gunn vs Akiyama/Kobashi from 12/4 was the 2nd best but I wouldn't advocate it for the set. The Sam TV Ep I have only airs like 8 mins Yes. The full version was on Satellite TV.
FLIK
Ah, that makes sense in hindsight, doesn't make it seem so weird that Samurai gave more time to Kobashi/Akiyama vs The Headhunters then this then....
FLIK
Watched the 2 Tajiri vs Minoru Tanaka matches today Their Battlarts match i'd keep for sure, the BJW re-match is good but nothing special. Bat Bat match is longer, has better action, more exciting, better crowd, etc...
fxnj
Wouldn't recommend the Misawa/Ace TC match beyond the last few minutes, where you get the hilarity of seeing Misawa going into epic war sell mode and pull out the TD 91 against fucking Johnny Ace. Otherwise, I don't think there's anything there that you don't get better in stuff like Misawa's TC matches with Akiyama. In it's place, I'd recommend gettng the version of the Misawa/Kobashi TC match that aired on classics a few years back that includes some very interesting/disturbing footage of both guys getting carried to the back and Kobashi needing to get feeling pressed back into his legs. Loss
Can someone confirm the dates of the Misawa vs Akiyama and Misawa vs Kawada matches in the Championship Carnival? I'm showing both 3/29, which I'm guessing is incorrect.
Ditch
Toshiaki Kawada vs Takao Omori (AJPW Championship Carnival 03/22/98) (Cut?) - Yes cut Jun Akiyama vs Stan Hansen (AJPW Championship Carnival 03/22/98) (Cut?) - Finish only Kenta Kobashi vs Takao Omori (AJPW Championship Carnival 03/29/98) (Cut?) - Yes cut Mitsuharu Misawa vs Jun Akiyama (AJPW Championship Carnival 03/29/98 (Is this date right?) - Was on the 27th Jun Akiyama vs Johnny Ace (AJPW Championship Carnival 04/12/98) (Cut?) - Yes cut. Steve Williams vs Jun Akiyama (AJPW 06/05/98) (Cut?) - Pretty sure there's a clipped version on a comm you can include. Full, no.
Ditch
Tenryu vs Araya from 1/14 WAR is worth adding. Not especially long, and it feels like an ECW match as much as anything. Pretty sure Lynch has it in two versions: from a tournament comm and the show itself. The comm is complete and good condition so that's what I'd recommend to be safe. Grimmas
I just watched X-Pac vs. The Rock from Capitol Carnage on December 6th. It's a really good match and it shows real well The Rock as a corporate cheating champion. X-Pac is a great babyface in this showing awesome fire and the crowd is crazy hot. Ditch
Just watched Liger vs Kanemoto from July. It is available in full from Lynch but really, REALLY drags in the first while. If it aired JIP on TV, that's all you need.
Loss
Just watched Liger vs Kanemoto from July. It is available in full from Lynch but really, REALLY drags in the first while. silverwidow
Definitely should keep the 12/18/98 Yoshida/Okutsu. It's the fledgling company's first big title match with a neat blend of highspots and shooty matwork. Fun ***+ affair that's worth seeing.

North South
Some WCW recommendations - Bret Hart vs. Ric Flair: Las Vegas, NV (Handheld) - 2/20/98. I myself would take this over their Souled Out match. Very solid match between these two. Worth watching if you are in to either guy. Bret Hart vs. Randy Savage: Slamboree - 5/17/98 Another good, solid battle. See what you think of it. Eddie Guerrero vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr.: Great American Bash - 6/14/98 Super bout between Eddie and Chavo here. Really watchable with lots of cool spots. Bret Hart vs. Lex Luger: Nitro - 8/10/98 Bret gives maybe his greatest performance of 1998. Luger gives maybe his greatest performance in years. Very nifty t.v. match. Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Juventud Guerrera: Thunder - 11/12/98 Juvi was my favourite WCW worker of '98 and he shows it here. Rey is his usual self. A match I don't think anybody really knows about, which they should. Eddie Guerrero/Juventud Guerrera vs. Rey Mysterio Jr./Billy Kidman: Nitro - 12/28/98 15 minutes of slick tag action. Eddie and Juvi are a sweet team. Rey brings it, and Kidman doesn't get in the way too much.
Gregor
How about Atlantis' two televised matches for WCW? Atlantis vs. Len Denton (Worldwide 9/26/98) Atlantis vs. Emilio Charles Jr. (Worldwide 11/28/98, announcers pretend Atlantis is Lizmark Jr.) I don't know how close this is to completion, but if you can't squeeze either of these in it doesn't seem like it would be a big loss. FLIK
LLPW Shinobu Kandori, Rumi Kazama & Yasha Kurenai vs Eagle Sawai, Michiko Nagashima & Sayori Okino (LLPW 02/15/98) Finally got to see this as it got put up on XWT a little while ago and it did indeed rule. Equal parts pure wrestling match, gang fight & all out prison riot. Not the greatest joshi brawl of all time but it's a keeper for the set for sure. Kevin Ridge
If mentioned earlier my apologies but did not see it when scanning through posts but I would nominate Rock versus Mankind versus Shamrock from Breakdown PPV on 9/27/98. Really off the charts crowd response to this as fans are so behind Rock after his recent turn from heel to neutral. Kind of crazy they turned him back heel at Survivor Series as fans were so into him.

Ditch
Just watched the November 1st Michinoku Pro 10-man: SASUKE, CIMA, SUWA, Sumo Fuji & Sasuke The Great [Orihara] vs Delfin, Hamada, Tiger Mask, Naniwa & Yakushiji. There are two versions. The one I got from Lynch, on MPro #86, is clipped, with 19 minutes of 33 shown. There's also a version on MPro #89 that from the listing is pretty much guaranteed to be complete. I suspect that the extra 14 minutes are not needed, and were probably just low-end heel control. The key stuff is the ~15 minute sprint at the end, which is top-notch. Definitely include the clipped version at least.
Ditch
The MPro tag league final (Delfin/Naniwa vs Yakushiji/Hoshikawa) is worth putting in JIP. As with the 10-man, there's a clipped version on MPro 86 and a full version on 89.
soup23
I'm inclined to say include the whole thing of that MPro 10 man Ditch recommended if possible. Will be interesting to see a M-Pro 10 man this late in the game and its a good mixture of old names and up and comers that will be very important later. Ditch
Hashimoto & Yamazaki vs Sasaki & Nagata, September 21st. Nagata returns from his WCW run with a big push and lots of fire. Aired JIP, so only ~11 minutes to establish Nagata as someone relevant going forward.
