El-P Posted June 16, 2012 Report Posted June 16, 2012 "No one cares about him at all. Funaki puts more asses in the seats than Foley does. He should pay us for coming on our shows." "Mick Foley who competed here under the name of Cactus Jack won their version of the world title. Yeah, that will put asses in the seats..." WWE under Levesque = WCW Quote
El-P Posted June 16, 2012 Report Posted June 16, 2012 I would really like it if we could stop calling him "Levesque". I see this happening more. Why not just HHH? Well, that's his name, and as he's slowly getting more and more of an office figure, I guess at some point he'll be more refered under his real name. I always thought it was funny how he kept the acronym of an old gimmick that was passé by late 1997 when he became a star. I mean, "Triple H" just doesn't evoque anything concrete now, as when it does, it's basically the old Blue Blood gimmick from WCW... Quote
Loss Posted June 16, 2012 Report Posted June 16, 2012 Part of it is annoyance that I can't figure out of if the "s" is silent or not. Quote
El-P Posted June 16, 2012 Report Posted June 16, 2012 Part of it is annoyance that I can't figure out of if the "s" is silent or not. Silent. It's a /ɛ/ sound in French. Now a funny fact : Levesque comes from L'évèque. Which means "the bishop". Now how do you say "bishop" in German ? Yeah, you guessed it... bischoff. I told you, WCW is coming. Quote
Johnny Guitar Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 Bret, Austin & Rock don't like him, and are all rich enough that they don't need a handout. Austin doesn't like him? There was an interview with Austin in The UK Sun years ago were he was pretty critical of HHH. "Doesn't like him" was probably the wrong phrase. More Austin didn't like HHH's politics. Quote
Victator Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 "Foley is an out-of-shape nobody," Levesque was reported as saying by the writer. "No one cares about him at all. Funaki puts more asses in the seats than Foley does. He should pay us for coming on our shows." I don't believe he said that for a second. The phrasing is all wrong. Quote

Victator Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 I've heard him bury guys in real life and he keeps this veneer of politeness about him. Also "asses in seats" sounds like something a fan would have HHH say, than something he would actually say. I don't doubt he would bury Foley, but I don't think he would do it like that. Quote

You've heard him bury guys in real life on what? Media appearances? Of course he's going to talk differently in a media appearance and a creative meeting. Whether that's a DIRECT quote or not, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility he would have said that around the time he, Foley and Funaki were all on Smackdown. Quote

Victator Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 It helps when the source for the quote is anonymous former creative team member. Who most likely does not exist. It reminds me of someone on a forum saying "Just because HHH was nice to you at at airport doesn't mean he is a good guy." Because obviously second hand accounts of him burying guys makes him a monster. Quote
Johnny Sorrow Posted June 18, 2012 Report Posted June 18, 2012 Yeah, I don't doubt HHH would bury Foley in meetings, but that quote sounds like the "quotes" you read from a "source" in the Star about Brad, Angelina, and Jen. Quote
Jingus Posted June 18, 2012 Report Posted June 18, 2012 There's no possible way to know if the quote's true or not. I'd assume it's paraphrased at the very least, I doubt the ex-writer happened to be recording that conversation for posterity. However, the general tone of HHH's feelings towards Foley in that quote is consistent with, well, every single backstage report about how Paul Levesque regards Michael Foley as a company asset. It's no secret that Trips vastly underrates Mick in general, and most reports have the same consensus about it going back to his insecurities about his own stardom. Quote
Victator Posted June 18, 2012 Report Posted June 18, 2012 I don't even think the former writer exist. Quote
Jingus Posted June 18, 2012 Report Posted June 18, 2012 No way to prove he did, no way to prove he didn't. Kinda silly to argue on a definitive answer either way. It's a story, who the hell knows if it happened or not. Quote
Log Posted June 19, 2012 Report Posted June 19, 2012 So...the out-of-shape nobody is the interim Raw GM...on tv. Quote

Jingus Posted June 19, 2012 Report Posted June 19, 2012 I've tried to kick-start the meme of calling him "Captain Trips", which amuses me because it's also the name of the apocalyptic plague which killed 99% of the human race in Stephen King's The Stand, but it never caught on. Quote

artDDP Posted June 19, 2012 Report Posted June 19, 2012 Foley mentioned in "The Hardcore Diaries" that there was someone within WWE who was very much opposed to Randy Orton feuding with Foley in hardcore matches. Foley said that person didn't seem to mind when it was him getting over by having hardcore matches with Foley. We used to have a thread full of mentions of Hunter cutting guys off at the knees on live TV. Why wouldn't he do the same in a production meeting? Quote
rovert Posted June 19, 2012 Report Posted June 19, 2012 So...the out-of-shape nobody is the interim Raw GM...on tv. WWE goes out of it's to prove the dirtsheets wrong shock. It was only a cameo and Ambrose hardly ambushed him or anything. Quote
Sean Liska Posted June 19, 2012 Report Posted June 19, 2012 At this point, even if HHH is keeping Foley out of the ring due to some misguided spite, I think he's doing him a favor. Foley can't put on his own socks anymore. He has well documented concussion issues, and could probably easily get one at this point just from taking a normal bump. He was willing to fall off a stage onto concrete just to get a pop at the Impact Zone for a show that did a 1.2. God only knows what he would be willing to do to himself on a big WWE PPV where he's trying to prove himself. Quote

Was he even on besides that first segment? Quote
