Loss
They gave Tully Blanchard Chris Jericho's future babyface music. What kind of shit is that? He's TULLY BLANCHARD. It's pretty obvious from this crowd that they're in Philly. Nick Patrick yelling at both guys to get back in the ring when Tully just ate a piledriver and can't really control his current situation is funny. I was disappointed with this match, given its rep. Tully didn't get much offense and the match was too short. All the commentary was focused on Funk, and he got all of the offense, which made this feel like a Tully burial. flyonthewall2983
According to Tully's shoot interview, he took the match thinking it was going to lead to a job and for whatever reason once he got there it was looking like Terry was going to get that spot instead. And once he got wind of the situation, he made it known he wasn't happy about it and pissed pretty much everyone off. So if it felt like a burial, it probably was one. Cox
It seems like Tully was burning bridges everywhere around this time - the Observer goes into detail about how he was brought into ECW to be an opponent for Shane Douglas and work a long program, but they wound up cutting it short when Tully didn't want to do any jobs for Shane. Kevin Ridge
Big ECW chant from Philly Fans for Terry Funk. He seems to yank some crutches out of the front row but they don't get used. Funk is in control for much of the match which ends up being short on time. Solie and Heenan are not a natural pair on commentary. Sherri is ringside. Hat Guy's hat gets the post match beat down. Exposer
This is the Terry Funk show. And for me that is completely fine. I found this to be extremely fun and entertaining. The post-match assault of Hat Guy's hat was tremendous. This ruled.
soup23
Good match but a lot shorter than I thought. I also like Gordon on commentary here and he was still did a decent job. Funk has to stop trying the piledriver from the ropes to the chair spot as it never works. I thought WCW presented Funk better here than anything we have seen in ECW so far this year besides the post match of the Night the Line was Crossed. El-P
This is most probably the very first occurence of an ECW chant on a major PPV. Hat guy in all its glory at ringside, ECW signs, fun to see. Yeah good short match, and it's too bad Tully didn't coma back in 1993 as he should have, because he obvioulsy still had a good deal in the tank. Funk is great. The announcing team sucked, talking about the past while it was obvious Terry Funk was as relevant as ever, and totally not selling the amazing fact that Terry was doing a freaking moonsault at his age. It's also obvious Funk was gonna be a regular. Funk dropping the elbow on Hat Guy's hat was ridiculous and insane.
goodhelmet
I thought this was lame the way it all ended. Great atmosphere and Funk was bringing the fire and sick spots. Then it just ended with a botched spot and I felt let down. Bleh.
PeteF3
WCW is starting in earnest its awful, awful, horrible trend of muting the TV feed for the ring announcer. I just talked about this in the USWA segment, but this shit matters to me. WCW forced this practice on us for the rest of its existence and I hated it every single time. Funk is greeted with ECW chants and goes out to the crowd to exchange pleasantries with Hat Guy. This started off awesome, with an incredible display of strikes on the outside, and Blanchard's shots all through the match looked fantastic. Funk does what he does, shame about that attempted turnbuckle piledriver. I liked this a lot while it lasted, but it did end too quickly. DMJ
I'm glad I found this Board because I just saw this match for the first time and was curious about others' view. To me, this one ain't pretty - the piledrivers through the wooden board and onto the chair both look pretty lame to these eyes - but the rest of the brawling around the ring and Funker's offense looks so passionate that it is hard not to really enjoy this one "warts and all." I would've preferred a better ending, but reading about Blanchard's issues here definitely explains things a bit.
BruiserBrody
I was really surprised at how little offence Blanchard got. Overall I was a little underwhelmed since I had 21 years of anticipation about seeing this match. PWI made a big deal about the brawling and "We want blood" chants in relation to ECW IIRC.
