Loss
Finish of a John Tatum squash. Bill Dundee has asked the crowd to be quiet and they surprisingly obliged! He ends up handcuffing Tatum to the ring ropes and calls The Lovely Tessa into the ring. Dundee insists on a title shot. Tatum refuses and Dundee kisses Tessa, and Tatum is furious, but still won't give him the title shot. He finally agrees after a second kiss and leaves. Tatum was clearly coerced and bullied here. Clearly.
PeteF3
Dundee handcuffs Tatum to the rope and basically coerces him into a Southern title shot by making out with Tessa. Tatum is perhaps the most gloriously shameless wrestler who ever lived--virtually his every move is made with the intent of making himself look like a buffoon. He even takes a bump trying to go after Dundee without knowing he's been cuffed. Sexually assaulting a heel valet to the approval of the crowd and announcers? That's territory wrestling for you. soup23
Dundee kissing Tessa got a pop out of me as well as Tatum stooging around being handcuffed. Really liking this feud so far.
shoe
It's hard to outshine Dundee, but I think Tatum does here. He was tremendous in his role.
Kevin Ridge
We have another match where someone comes down to ring to stop match to cut promo. Dundee wants a title shot from Tatum. Dundee makes out with Tessa but it’s still not enough to convince him. But a second kiss sets Tatum over the edge and he gives Dundee a title shot. Cox
Poor Tessa. She has John Tatum beating her up and Bill Dundee forcing herself on her. Any rational woman would have left treadmarks getting the hell out of wrestling by this point.
ajtroma
Dundee sexually assaults his way to a Southern title match. Big hero.
garretta
Wow. Never let it be said that Dundee doesn't have a way with the ladies (or the men, for that matter). Can't wait to see how this one progresses.
drew wardlaw
Once again, Lowrance is a true professional, and comes in to hold the mic when Dundee is looking for someone to hold it. John Tatum seems really self deprecating, I'm a fan.
ThomasFromIowa
I found this disturbing. Like, I know its World Class, and these are the fans that stuck around through all of the crazy Von Erich wackiness, but I can't figure out why the crowd loves Dundee here. This feels like the beginning stages of Dundee being booked on the Jerry Springer show. Also, I find it humorous that Lowrance is assisting Dundee in this angle right after he informs the audience (assuming this is in order) that he's leaving to become a pastor. Johnny Sorrow
Lowrence knew that it was make believe.
PeteF3
On the other hand he had quit multiple times over the content of the show before being talked back, until leaving for good.
garretta
I'd like to hear some of the examples, Pete. I've never heard of Marc having any problems with the content of the shows, although given his obvious deep faith I'm not surprised to learn that he had some. GSR
Bill Dundee interferes in a Tatum squash sneaking up on him from behind and nailing him in the face with some handcuffs that he’d wrapped around his fist. He cuffs Tatum to the top rope and then invites Tessa into the ring. He asks Tatum for a title shot and when he says ‘never’ he kisses Tessa. Dundee says that they can wait as long as he wants because he’s enjoying this, and asks him again. Tatum says that he’s going to kill him and he’s not having a title shot. He tries to kick him but can’t quite reach because of being cuffed to the ropes. Dundee grabs the belt and Tatum says he can have one just don’t kiss Tessa again; the ‘Superstar’ kisses her anyway! Tatum starts throwing a tantrum point and begs Tessa not to kiss him anymore. Dundee says the USWA promoters heard that, the title match is signed and kisses Tessa one final time before making his way out of the ring. Tatum again puts his hands on Tessa and Dundee throws him the keys to the handcuffs to free himself. He makes a meal of this, but finally frees himself and runs off up the aisle in pursuit of Dundee. dawho5
Tatum, Dundee and Tessa play their roles perfectly here. Not sure I buy into the Southern "that ain't no lady" idea behind this kind of stuff, but it works for the fans. In wrestling it's the babyfaces who do the sexual assaulting. Says something for the industry doesn't it?
