Daniel Bryan may never turn into a huge draw, but his push to the top is still in progress, and it's ridiculous to call this a failure based on one television rating. That reactionary mindset is really how wrestling ended up in the doldrums that it's in. It's interesting how Vince is always patient with big guys he's pushing on top, but a small guy being pushed on top who isn't an immediate huge sensation is cause for panic.

And that NHL game did the best rating they have done in 19 years.

I wouldn't worry about Bryan too much because he will get his match with Cena and you can best believe that they will make that work the best way possible.

I may be wrong, but wasn't Meltzer doing the same speech with Punk after his big push started? Constantly reminding people about he's not a "backstage favorite" and how his low ratings could probably mean he was never going to be a real main event guy for the company.

It's just 1 rating and it wasn't a disaster. It was just mediocre and, as Dylan said, that's expected when you have Randy Orton involved. What I hate about ratings breakdown is how Dave never makes a big deal when an "internet darling" is involved in a good rating gain but when it's about losing viewers or not a big enough gain it's something really bad.

It's whatever at this point though, month ago he was saying Henry was in doghouse and he's now gonna main event against Juanito at MITB

Bryan also brings a lot of crowd interaction and electricity with the "Yes/No" chants which make the WWE experience a lot more fun. Plus his persona is so interesting and his wrestling right now is off the chain so he's going to be in an important of the WWE for quite awhile yet. Plus with Cena they might do all sorts of soap opera stuff with the Bella twins. After he's been dancing with Cena for awhile, Bryan's name is going to be pretty strong with the fans and the WWE so yeah, I'm not worried about Daniel Bryan either. Plus, he's the American Dragon. He'll make it work.

This Bryan Daniel talk depresses me but I remember when Cena vs. Bryan took place at a RAW I attended last year. Here is Meltzer's breakdown on the ratings for the August 6th, 2012 RAW...

Raw on 8/6 did a 3.09 rating and 4.37 million viewers, so the rating was identical to the prior week but viewers were down. The show was third for the night on cable. The Olympics were lower than expected with a 15.84 rating and 26.57 million viewers, down from the 18.04 rating and 31.58 million viewers the prior week.

For Raw, the three hours were 2.80, 3.26 and 3.19. There were no monster segments and there was a third hour fade, with the peak being the Brock Lesnar/HHH/Shawn Michaels segment and a rare disappointing John Cena close against Daniel Bryan.

-Stuff-

And John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan gained 345,000 viewers, which is not a strong overrun segment, finishing at 3.27.

I'm bummed about the Bryan news. I know many will disagree but Hunter having power will probably at least help him in the short term. It sucks that Vince is still stuck in the "seeing a wrestler in the airport" mindset but I think with Hunter having say it will at least give him a chance.

According to Meltz (through rajah) the Bellas will be involved in the Bryan/Cena buildup. I'm actually looking forward to that.

@ShawnMichaels Really? Can you tell me who you were talking about?

Shawn Michaels ‏@ShawnMichaels

@TheVertebreaker. No, but remarkably, he's 6'3 250, I made my point. Please be careful, what you read/assume is likely inaccurate.

Joe Hennig?

Would a closer guess than Ziggler or Cesaro if you take HBK's power of estimation and wikipedia as gospel.

Curt Hennig was a great mentor to Shawn so I could see Shawn going to bat for his son.

Also as rumoured:

Hope he lands on his feet. If he hasn't already!

This opening segment on Raw is exactly what is bad about WWE promos and characters. Stilted, forced and totally scripted beyond belief, with the mandatory embarrassingly bad jokes and terrible lines that make you wonder who is getting paid to write this shit. There is nothing that comes across as natural. Even someone like Daniel Bryan who has genuine charisma and likability comes over badly, seeming like he is just reading off a cue. There is no honesty or believability in the words.

Doesn't help that they have to get the WWE buzzwords and jargon in to force down people's throats - the phrase "Money In The Bank All Star Ladder Match" must have been repeated about six times, no doubt we will be told shortly how it is trending on Twitter.

That Mark Henry career retrospective/ hype video was fucking awesome.

Edit: And Holy Fuck, that Henry promo was off the charts.

Oh, and I'm loving how they're having Vickie be this poor befuddled woman who's just trying to do her job but is pulled three different ways by McMahons who are giving mixed signals. It's a shout out to the internet who constantly read/ hear stories about how the writing team receives the same treatment. Shit, Vince yelling at Vickie for "giving away that main event and not saving it for PPV" was smark talking point #35.

edit: Stephanie complaining about the "woman denigrating" stuff is #27.

Oh and Cesaro's Flair trunks ruled, as did Dutch's joke about how the defeat of DOMA will lead America to it's knees. :P
