This is another production thing that WWE does that other promotions should look into NOT doing. It's just the little things really. I don't want to turn this into a TNA thread by any means, but if I was head of production of TNA I would make sure to never do a few things:

1. No theme music, pyro, lights, etc. for distractions.

2. If someone 'shouldn't be there', don't have them show up in wrestling gear. Scott Hall showing up on Nitro is the correct dress code for these situations. Not Michael Tarver sitting in the stands in full WWE approved shirt and his wrestling gear -- entirely incorrect.

3. The entire roster should never come out to stage on the stage and do NOTHING unless tribute is being payed. Either a death or a legit retirement of a legend.

Are these all Kevin Dunn staples? People talk about how 'bad' Dunn is and how he is trying to make the production into 'fast food', but no one ever provides detailed examples. Okay he is 'bad', I get it. How so? What are the bad production tropes that have stayed under the years. Is there anything specifically Dunn brought into WWE?

I would say the nausea inducing shaky cam (best/worst examples were during Shield beatdowns) is the top of my Awful Kevin Dunn Trope list. i think guys always being in their gear is more a Vince quirk, so he gets a pass on that. Not so much for the thing where someone has to hold their reaction at the end of a backstage promo for an extra 15-20 seconds before the scene ends like someone doing a spoof on bad soap opera actors.

I think this weekend I'm going to try to watch 10 Raws from 2011 and take notes. I want to gain a better understanding of Dunn's craft. I should have enough information from 10 episodes of Raw? I'm going to start at some random point in the calendar year and go from there. WWE didn't win its first Emmy with its Tribute To The Troops show, which is not surprising at all. So serious question: Will WWE ever win an Emmy? What would it take (aside from not being pro wrestling) for WWE to win an Emmy? Can WWE some how pull one of the biggest cons in pro wrestling history and kiss the right ass for the Emmy people to eventually create a Sports Entertainment category?

On top of the shaky cam, Dunn appears to be a huge fan of cuts between cameras, particularly when any major move occurs. Pretty much always on finishers.

The shaky cam seems to be a fairly recent development, and made WWE all but un-watchable. The constant cuts has been going on a bit longer, but I think it started within the past 5 years.

Anybody have any idea what prompted Dunn to make these changes?

THIS! I have no idea why they insist on doing this, NO ONE in WWE is any good at it and like you said it just comes off like bad soap acting.

Him and Vince finally saw the first Transformers? No seriously, it's probably something like that.

WWE needs a total and complete overhaul of how they produce television if anything just to give a jolt to the product. There's very few things that differentiate it from a 2007 show and that's not good.

Even something as simple as a color change would make the show feel so fresh. Imagine if the colors of RAW weren't red anymore. How different does the show instantly look?

They did upgrade to the HD set when they went to High-Def cameras but it still pretty much looks the same.

this is from cageside rumor mill so who knows

they are talking about expanding the Authority storyline into the "Network" where a representative from the Authority would run each show ( ie HHH on RAW, Steph on SD) This was pitched recently at a creative meeting and apparently Vince loves the idea

and the Nation v 2.0 idea has been scrapped

Was wondering if anybody caught Main Event? What happened with the Uso's open challenge?

They had a promo to open the show where they said they wanted to be remembered like the most famous tag teams in WWE history, naming off the Hart Foundation, the Road Warriors, Edge & Christian, and the New Age Outlaws. Naturally, they segued that into talking about watching the WWE Network, which the crowd responded to with the "nine-ninety-nine" chant.

Rybaxel interrupted their promo (to a complete lack of an audience response) and said that they accept the challenge. Then RVD interrupted them to say "What's up, guys?" and accept the tag team challenge with his tag team partner...Sheamus.

Then Corporate Kane came out and announced that there would be a Triple Threat match between these three teams later in the evening, which really ended up mostly being Rybaxel vs Sheamus & RVD with the commentators playing up the possibility of the Usos losing the tag titles without actually being pinned. Usos retain with some Triple Threat trickery, tagging out RVD right before a frog splash on Axel and then landing a splash of their own on RVD for the win. Not the best match of the night (see below), but there were a few clever moments.

Other Main Event stuff:

- Seth Rollins, who looks like a doofus wearing his new shirt to the ring, faced off against Kofi Kingston, who is apparently back to his face act. (Maybe they dropped it because of what's going on Ferguson, MO?) Decent little match with a hot finish that focused on a couple of really nice hope spots for Kofi.

- Sheamus and RVD have a backstage interview with Renee Young to explain why they formed as a team. Apparently, it was Sheamus's idea because...Rob Van Dam is laid-back?

A Sheamus RVD tag team sounds dreadful.

from a promo/likeability perspective they are, but as a team in the ring I think they worked pretty well together actually. They had an ok spot where Sheamus hit the Finlay Roll and RVD followed up with Rolling Thunder for example.

I'm not a big fan of throwing together two random upper midcard guys to challenge the tag champs, though. Also, it really sucks that they didn't have the Wyatts eventually win the titles. It kind of feels like there's nothing left for the Usos to do with this reign right now. I'm wondering now if the end-game of this open challenge angle is that they keep issuing open challenges and eventually the Ascension show up and win the titles.

Am I the only one who isn't the least bit impressed by The Ascension?

Nah, I think they're just sorta ok.

They're going to have the same problem Tensai had. They look fine tossing around tiny jobbers in NXT, but when they get to the main roster and everyone's closer to their size they'll lose a lot of their appeal.

I finally saw the much-talked about Eva Marie-Bailey match from NXT last week. Guess my "hopes" were too "high", I didn't think this match was one of the "worst ever". Certainly ugly (from a technical standpoint), but not anything like Jenna/Sharmell.

Something is wrong about Eva's selling, she looks like she's smiling while taking holds. She looked like she might have been stiff on some of her kicks as well. Eva had a fairly competent suplex spot, at least.

In related news, did anyone figure out or get fancam footage of Eva Marie winning on Raw, celebrating beind the ring, then shown mysteriously knocked down? Only guess I have is that JBL blew a dart at her during the Paige poem.

They're supposed to be heels but over in NXT as almost a parody babyface act. The "h'yah!" stuff from the crowd & whatnot. They're certainly not great workers but that does not mean they might not succeed. They have a good finish. Their gimmick is super corny though. In 2014, do we really want two 30+ year old fake vampires? So, I guess you're not the only one that thinks they leave a lot to be desired.

Something is wrong about Eva...

Eva Marie was hired to be a part of Total Divas. She's really pretty & has genuine heat. Even if it's heat garnered because she's terrible. I have no idea why WWE want to put her in the ring. It's not just dangerous to her but to her opponents. Meanwhile, she would be an awesome valet. It's confusing why WWE constantly miscasts people instead of playing to their strengths. I don't know if it is an ego thing, if they want to embarrass her to "knock her down a peg" or what. I think she could be great in a non-wrestling role, so of course she's terrible in a wrestling role instead.
