Would have been even better if he ended it with the lariat. It would have reinforced the idea that a match can end anytime with any move if delivered properly.

Great point and one I couldn't agree with more. The win wouldn't have meant less and Cesaro wouldn't look any worse for going down to it. Little tweaks from the norm like that would go a long way.

I really, really liked the show tonight. One absolutely great match and some other good wrestling, and pretty much everything had a point. The Big E handicap match with Zeb on the mic was fun and something novel, Titus' interview was great, the Usos/NAO stuff was alright and at least demonstrated some effort in building the match. With so many lazy, lazy, lazy RAWs lately something like this where it actually looked like effort went into booking it will score points with me.

if I'm remembering correctly, tonight in addition to some great wrestling, there was:

no divas match

no long drawn out authority segment

no Vickie Guerrero

no Stephanie

barely any mention of Batista

no Miz

no evisceration of babyfaces by the announcers

this was by far the best Raw since the jump to three hours.

Yes, this was an excellent show. Cena vs Cesaro was outstanding. Despite Dave's cynicism, I think there's no way Cesaro isn't a player now. While we're giving Cesaro so much credit, I think we also need to give Cena big credit too. For a guy at his level to take some of those moves and sell so much I think is a huge credit to him. He also had some freakish feats of strength in this match. I popped huge for him pulling himself up to do the DDT the first time Cesaro attempted the giant swing. On that note, they teased that move so many times that while I think it would have gotten a big pop anyway, Cesaro finally getting the move got a huge reaction because they had been dangling it for so long.

I think there's something to be learned also. Even if they continue to run with Cena as their guy, he has a fresh opponent who will make him look good and can give him really good matches. Yes, I'd love to see Cesaro take the next step, but I don't feel like they have to rush it as long as they put him in a position to showcase himself every week. In fact, I think a slow burn would be good for him. Let fans be screaming for him to be a top guy and until then, just give him 15 minute matches on every show.

While Cesaro gained a lot from that, I think it was also really good for Cena to turn in such a strong performance, show some impressive stuff and also show any doubters that he still has a lot to give. That match was exactly how a top guy versus a star on the rise match should be done where both guys come out of it looking better than they did going in.

The only reason you can't see that Cesaro isn't a prime time player now is that Cena "seal of approval" doesn't seem to have the same luster as Triple H does. Cena put over Cesaro about 3 months ago and he is still where he is now. I guess we need to wait to see what they do with him after they break up the Real Americans.

Apparently, post-show Cesaro got in on the "Everyone beats up Dean Ambrose" party including a 30 rotation giant swing.

I could see them thinking doing the breakup of The Shield and Real Americans at the same time is two angles that are too similar, and deciding to hold off the Real Americans split a little longer. So I don't expect anything to happen immediately, but in this case, I think that's okay. As long as he isn't buried or forgotten, he doesn't really have to be pushed to the top next week.

At this point, I don't think anyone is thinking Cesaro should be at the top of the pile. The huge difference between Cesaro and Daniel Bryan is that Bryan has a gimmick and level of fan support that demands he be given the chance to be THE guy. In 2010-2011, DB was stealing the show as the opener in PPVs and people were happy that he was given a chance to have matches that went longer than ten minutes. At this point, I think people are glad that Cesaro is being taken seriously enough by the brass to get a main event slot.

Cena is well known huge Cesaro backer and he loves working with him.

Regarding the Reigns/Henry match....the fans that work with me were buzzing about that match talking about how Reigns beat him so easily and that he is a bad bad man so that story worked.

I am kinda surprised they didn't tease more for RAW next week with it being the lead in for the Network.

Yeah, doesn't surprise me that Henry is doing jobs left and right considering he wants new people on top and help the new guys get over (in his interview with Rosenberg he said he was friends with Cesaro, Shield and Bryan). Besides, they can always rebuild him pretty quickly, he was happy go lucky Kool Aid man before going in that amazing run in 2011.
