Will WWE Ever Win An Emmy?

On 5/28/08, WWE set up a screening of the 2007 Tribute to the Troops USA Network special for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. This was done by WWE to continue to expand its brand further away from 'wrestling' and closer to 'entertainment'. To my knowledge, this was the first time WWE vyied for an Emmy nomination. Years later WWE hired a 2 time Emmy Award winning writer,Tom Casiello, to serve on WWE's creative team. With the quality production, countless angles, 'acting', being the longest running episodic action/adventure show in television history, etc. Can WWE not only earn an Emmy nod but eventually win an Emmy? Why or wht not?

WWE production is ugly, tasteless and obnoxious. It is viewed a low-brow and whenever WWE tries to actively do something to show it isn't they somehow emphasizes their most low-brow tendencies (eg, Bray promos). No one buys the spiel of "We're not 'wrestling,' we're main stream diversified sports entertainment!" and if they dropped that I think they'd actually have a BETTER chance of being taken seriously. So now, I don't see any main stream big awards like this in WWE's future.

For the record: I don't watch The Oscars, Grammys, Tonys, Emmys, or any award show really. Whether WWE wins an Emmy or not is of no concern to me, but I am sure its on Kevin Dunn and Vince McMahon's bucket list. WWE winning an Emmy will be the 'told you so' to TV Guide, THR, and anyone else who dares calls WWE a pro wrestling company. I can understand the writing and acting being considered low brow, but the actual production? If the atmosphere of WWE Raw was that of the smoke filled arena's of the 70's then I would agree. But this isn't the case. What specifically is wrong with WWE production where people feel that an Emmy is completely out-of-the-question for WWE? Aside from the obvious 'its pro wrestling'. Let's pretend that The Academy had absolutely no problems with pro wrestling and viewed it on the same level as Leverage, Arrow, Castle, and all these other shows. What specifically about the production would make someone say 'Nope! WWE doesn't have its shit together!".

Would it be so wrong for me to just post "No" and leave it at that? I guess if I can't get away with just posting "Yes" in the "Is TNA the worst promotion ever" thread I can't do it here.

WWE could hire whatever former Emmy award winners they wanted to produce or direct the show but it wouldn't matter. They could have Steven Spielberg run their production but they would never even get a serious consideration for an Emmy. Because the people running the show would never "lower themselves" to consider pro wrestling for an Emmy.

Has there ever been a drama or comedy win an Emmy when its writing process begins three days before broadcast, the performers (who aren't trained actors) get the scripts a few hours before broadcast, there's little to no rehearsal, and the script is sometimes rewritten during the broadcast?

Saturday Night Live has been nominated / won multiple Emmy awards over the years for the technical aspects of its broadcast which are all things WWE in theory could be eligible for if it weren't for the fact they were looked so down upon. In addition they have had (and granted far less) cast nods also.

If Nic Cage can win an Academy Award & Three-6 Mafia can win a Grammy, I'm sure pro-wrestling can find a way to win an Emmy. Although it is extremely far-fetched.

Think of it this way: how many people ever thought that a pro-wrestling promotion would be publicly traded on the stock market?

Nic Cage has given great performances in at least 10 movies. Not a very far-fetched winner. Now Cuba Gooding Jr.?

Cuba Gooding Jr. is a tremendous actor. His career has gone down the tubes over the past decade, but even some of his straight-to-video movies are well worth seeking out. The man never lost his talent.

As for WWE winning an Emmy, no chance in hell if we're talking Raw, Smackdown, etc.

This is the only hope they have...

Only way if they would get an Emmy if they made documentary and was distributed by a cable channel or by an outside film company.

...and even that seems highly unlikely.
