MJH
Fired for an article in the Enquirer? What next, Wade Barrett is fired because the Mail claim he's imported 100 Aids-riddled mutant spiders from Latvia?
funkdoc
IIRC the national enquirer first broke the story of john edwards cheating on his wife once in a while they're actually right about something
JerryvonKramer
This has pissed me off. Not about the rant or anything, just for the sheer inconvenience now of WWE having to act like their biggest star ever never existed. That's literally the only part of it I care about. I hate racism etc. obviously. But this has bummed me out for other reasons.
SteveMPunk
So it's gonna be like the New Generation era, when they pretended he didn't exist (at least until the skits in 96)? I remember them trying to avoid him as much as possible in their Wrestlemania flashbacks.

What next, Wade Barrett is fired because the Mail claim he's imported 100 Aids-riddled mutant spiders from Latvia? I don't read it or mags like it, but I assume in this day and age that an outfit like the Enquirer would be absolutely 100% sure of what they had before they released it since it could and would potentially ruin the celebrity involved. The lawsuit they would have to pay out on something like this should it be untrue at the end of the day would have to be astronomical. I know how low-brow these mags are, but even they have to be more careful nowadays on stuff like this, no?

Actually from what I've read the Enquirer sources their stories like this way more than the usual news outlet for that exact reason. They've been sued A LOT I am sure they have a very strong legal department at this point.
Loss
Usually, celebrities sue the National Enquirer to save face as a matter of public relations, then quietly drop the lawsuit after the attention from it has died down. That has become standard operating procedure. If they were losing in court all the time, they wouldn't have lasted this long.
El-P
So it's gonna be like the New Generation era, when they pretended he didn't exist (at least until the skits in 96)? I remember them trying to avoid him as much as possible in their Wrestlemania flashbacks. This is even more complicated now with the Network… I find all this pretty comical actually. That Hogan is a dipshit IRL really isn't anything new anyway.
JerryvonKramer
Since he headlined the first 9 Manias and was completely instrumental in the height of WCW's heyday. they cannot really do a scrub job on him from the Network. They have to be more sensible.
Beast
He said inappropriate things, but I still have a problem with someone's private conversation being used to paint them as a horrible person.

They have to be more sensible. I agree with this. I feel like a more progressive (I don't mean politically necessarily) company would own their history and commit themselves to a fresh outlook where they strive to not repeat past mistakes instead of just trying to sweep it under the rug. Maybe you could get away with that if it was someone else, but not if it's Hulk Hogan. It's delusional for them to think they can distance themselves from him at all. They can say they do, but the perception will always be there.
KrisZ
These days you have to go to the highest extreme when something like what Hogan said happened. The social media mobs demand blood and they get it.
Loss
The social media mobs seem to be laughing at WWE's response for the most part since it's so transparently hypocritical.

BTW, can we still watch Jimmy Snuka on the Network ? But really, yeah, banning Hogan completely sounds both ridiculous and undoable without butchering the history of both promotions to ridiculous degrees. WingedEagle
The social media mobs seem to be laughing at WWE's response for the most part since it's so transparently hypocritical. Part of that is being wrestling.

JerryvonKramer
I kind of hate how these issues are handled. Racism will never be tackled by making a pariah out of famous people. There is zero positive to come from this, only WWE history being twisted even more than it is already. Sad day for wrestling tbh.
Matt D
I sort of thing that the mainstream media might jump on this more if there was one place that really cataloged all of WWE's institutional racism that they could look at in three seconds like a digest. Anything more complex than a simple list is probably too hard for them to look for.
BlueGuy
For whatever reason, I can't copy anything and put it in this window. But, I'd check out www.HypeGeeks.com . The Hogan story is on their main page featuring comments from WWE AND Hogan.
JerryvonKramer
Know I shouldn't joke, but Hogan could do a mean line in the "some of my best friends are black" Mr. T, JYD., Koko B. Ware, Virgil, "I've been fighting for the rights of every man for a long time brothers."
goc
Hogan said some really vile shit in a private conversation. Is he really a horrible irredeemable racist though? I mean I have heard ZERO stories of him refusing to work with other black wrestlers, not signing autographs for black kids, NOTHING like that. I think the whole situation is pretty shitty. As far as him being "scrubbed" there is no way this is going to last longer than a few weeks/couple of months. WWE is just covering it's ass right now and once the story blows over it'll be business as usual. There's no way they are going to go to the Benoit lengths with him. He's not going to get Network disclaimers and his matches unsearchable and not on time stamps.
LariatMMBOPPO
"She is making some real bad decisions now," Hulk said, sources tell us. "My daughter Brooke jumped sides on me. I spent $2-3 million on her music career, I’ve done everything like a jackass for her.” The bitter bodybuilder continued, "The one option Brooke had, Brooke’s career besides me, is [to] sell beach records." At that point on the tape, the former "Hogan Knows Best” star bemoaned how a "black billionaire guy" had offered to fund her music career. He also attempts to use bizarre, twisted logic in an attempt to justify his bigotry at the man. "I don’t know if Brooke was f*cking the black guy’s son," Hulk raved, the sources add. "I mean, I don’t have double standards. I mean, I am a racist, to a point, f*cking n*ggers. But then when it comes to nice people and sh*t, and whatever." Then, in a tirade to rival the racism embarrassments suffered by Mel Gibson and "Dog The Bounty Hunter," Hulk unloaded even more hatred! According to sources, he said: "I mean, I’d rather if she was going to f*ck some n*gger, I’d rather have her marry an 8-foot-tall n*gger worth a hundred million dollars! Like a basketball player! "I guess we’re all a little racist. Fucking n*gger." http://www.nationalenquirer.com/celebrity/hulk-hogan-racist-scandal-wrestling-caught-on-tape-saying-n-word-daughter-brooke-exclusive Going for father of the year award there too. Cox
If Hogan wins the Gawker suit and the $100 million that comes with it, but somehow becomes such a social pariah that nobody will have anything to do with him for the rest of his life...that strikes me as the very definition of a pyrrhic victory.
