Our friend and long-time wrestling fan/tape trader/photographer Jim Cornette joins us for a chat about all sorts of random wrestling topics including:

  • Tape trading, the hunt for more wrestling in general, and the “command center” he jury-rigged when he went to Mid-South.
  • Satoru Sayama/original Tiger Mask, why he was successful, does his stuff hold up, how did his predecessors like Gran Hamada and Tatsumi Fujinami compare, etc.
  • How insider terms evolved and how fans becoming “smart” changed backstage etiquette.
  • The greatness of Jim and Brian’s late friend Dennis Coraluzzo.
  • Corny watching Pibe Diez’s accident in real time on the air..

And much more! This is a very different Jim Cornette podcast than what you’re used to.

I've been putting off starting on this podcast due to an huge backlog, but a Cornette interview pushed things over the edge for me.

Same here. With so many podcasts on the market these days and so little time my end this is one that I hadn't got round to taking in yet. Tape trading and Cornette is right up my street so I'm downloading this as I type to listen to later on today at some point.

The tape trading talk was incredible and it's fascinating hearing Jim talk about Japanese wrestling.

I'm somewhat surprised that WWE hasn't thrown a huge pile of cash at him to buy and convert his tape collection. I'm sure that he could get some sort of deal where he could get digital copies of everything.

Really good listen here. Heard so much of Cornette on this type of thing but felt fresh here.

Agree fully with this and I could've listened to him talk for hours about the tape trading days. The lengths that he would go to in order to record everything when he was in Charlotte especially was incredible. I imagine that there is a whole host of stuff in his 'vault' that isn't out there so to speak, especially with the various feeds he was trading for and getting from the likes of Ken Wayne and Danny Davis.

Also enjoyed the Smoky Mountain talk and again a bunch of new things that I had never heard him talk about before. It's a shame that Armstrong ten man tag never came to fruition and the promotion folded a month or so before it was planned and also that Bryan Clark was pretty much Paul Orndorff's driver as they would both travel down from Atlanta together.

Excellent job by both Bix and Brian on this one.

I know it's difficult to reel Jim in, but I'm surprised Bix didn't follow up on it.

My fault for not pressing in the stuff I knew about from past conversations.

I'm sorry. I didn't know you were so easily offended.
No, I wasn't being sarcastic. You're right.

For those that didn't know, Cornette was in discussions with WWE over the Lost Mid-Atlantic films set before he released it. I talked to him at a convention in April 2014 and he told me that he was converting the stuff & would be releasing it if WWE didn't give him what he felt it was worth. Then by August he was selling them. Given what he charges I'm pretty sure he made the right decision.
