Strummer Posted May 21, 2018 Report Posted May 21, 2018 just announced http://www.espn.com/wwe/story/_/id/23562745/fox-reaches-agreement-air-wwe-smackdown-live Quote
Strummer Posted May 21, 2018 Author Report Posted May 21, 2018 starting October 2019. And it will be moving to Friday Nights. wonder if this means it's going to be taped again. That would be much easier on the production crew Quote
Kadaveri Posted May 21, 2018 Report Posted May 21, 2018 No way. A big selling point of WWE programming nowadays is that it's live TV so people won't watch it on demand and skip the ads. Quote
Jmare007 Posted May 21, 2018 Report Posted May 21, 2018 If it continues to be live it would make them change their house show schedule, I think they will go back to taping it. I wonder if FOX will cancel it out of nowhere like they do with all their shows. Quote
Matt D Posted May 21, 2018 Report Posted May 21, 2018 If it continues to be live it would make them change their house show schedule, I think they will go back to taping it. I wonder if FOX will cancel it out of nowhere like they do with all their shows. It can become a procedural with no meanungful week to week connectivity. Quote
Johnny Sorrow Posted May 21, 2018 Report Posted May 21, 2018 FOX notoriously will cancel shows they don't own. So they must be counting on ad revenue. Quote
topropepodcast Posted May 21, 2018 Report Posted May 21, 2018 My guess would be that all it would do, schedule wise, is change the Friday live show into a live SD. They might take the Tuesday live shows off the table, but the rights increase will more than cover a Tuesday night house show. That would leave both shows as traveling Friday-Monday, save the international tours. Quote
Jmare007 Posted May 21, 2018 Report Posted May 21, 2018 Yeah, I changed my mind. After reading the deal is for 5 years/1 billion, it's has to continue to be live, no way they give that much money for a taped show. Vince can't write/book a compelling wrestling show to safe his life nowadays, but he continues to show he's the GOAT promoter. Dude got that Saudi money and now this. Quote
KawadaSmile Posted May 21, 2018 Report Posted May 21, 2018 In tears. Vincent McMahon is the best promoter of all time and never was out of touch. It was him, Austin. It was him all along. Quote
Matt D Posted May 21, 2018 Report Posted May 21, 2018 Eh. He just lucked into an environment which was impossibly advantageous? That he couldn't get more during the last round of negotiations was embarrassing. This is a massive success but he didn't create the situation. He just kept a steady ship that could benefit from it. Quote
Mad Dog Posted May 21, 2018 Report Posted May 21, 2018 Yeah, live sports are in a bubble right now. They were going to clean up on this TV deal. The problem for them and all of the other sports leagues is what they do when the TV money starts drying up in the next decade. The NFL in particular is going to get fucked when that happens because they've refused to embrace technology. Quote
El-P Posted May 21, 2018 Report Posted May 21, 2018 The Trump Wrestling Federation finally on FOX. All is well in the best world possible. Quote
Seabs Posted May 21, 2018 Report Posted May 21, 2018 Now also being reported the plan is for it to move to 3 hours as well. Great. Quote
KawadaSmile Posted May 21, 2018 Report Posted May 21, 2018 Maybe they can finally start giving the women's division more than one segment, now. Quote
Matt D Posted May 21, 2018 Report Posted May 21, 2018 Vince is now wealthier than Ted Turner. Maybe he'll finally start a rasslin' company. Quote
El-P Posted May 21, 2018 Report Posted May 21, 2018 Vince is now wealthier than Ted Turner. And he'll probably die sooner than later at this point too... Quote
WingedEagle Posted May 22, 2018 Report Posted May 22, 2018 This is a massive success but he didn't create the situation. He just kept a steady ship that could benefit from it. This is pretty important and I think deserving of quite a bit of credit. I haven't been a fan of much of the main roster creative over the last 18 months, but he built a model that grew to and could sustain business at this level while never letting creative fall to a point that it imperiled the business as a going concern. Quote
topropepodcast Posted May 22, 2018 Report Posted May 22, 2018 Now also being reported the plan is for it to move to 3 hours as well. Great. Fox's prime time window is only 2 hours. The local affiliates love they can do the 10 pm news and the ratings bump it can give. So no way to do 3 hours and satisfy the affiliates. Quote

Agreed. He basically kept creating new sources of income so that when one fell off, it didn't hurt them massively. And then it reached a point were it's almost impossible for business to suffer much no matter how bad the booking/writing gets. Quote
Flyin' Brian Posted May 22, 2018 Report Posted May 22, 2018 Now also being reported the plan is for it to move to 3 hours as well. Great. Cant see this happening. Fox gives the 10pm hour to local affiliates for news and other programming. Unless they are expanding to 3 hours in prime time every night I dont think this is accurate. Quote
flyonthewall2983 Posted May 22, 2018 Report Posted May 22, 2018 Maybe they start an hour early? Quote
Strummer Posted May 22, 2018 Author Report Posted May 22, 2018 Maybe but then you are stepping on more local affiliate programming. If it was on a weekend I could see them doing that but not on a weekday Quote
