Kronos
The latest case of a random dude working a newspaper into thinking he was a big wrestling star. Do reporters not know how to use Google? The weirdest bit is not the article itself -- though I have never heard of this guy, and you are right that it comes across like he's Jim Neidhart or something. The weirdest part is the series of comments across the bottom of the piece. Screams WORK to me. Why would an attorney actually post something like that there? It's all bizarre. . . Jingus
Example #47389 of why I generally don't trust the majority of the news media in general: just about every time they do a story on a subject I know a whole lot about, they get a truly embarassing quantity of stuff absolutely wrong and apparently did zero research. Yeah, this guy whom nobody has ever heard of wrestled in all of the Big 3, sure. WWE contract employee Chris Jericho is gonna help their rinkydink startup hardcore fed, uh-huh. He actually makes a living on the outlaw indy circuit, right. All the veterans would rather be perfecting their art in national guard armories for peanuts instead of getting paid and being on national television, of course. The only part which seemed even vaguely plausible was him claiming to have trained with Chris Champion, since of course we all know Chris did time in Evansville (oh that pun was just awful), but it's awfully convenient that he happened to pick a guy who suffered a major stroke several years back and might not remember those days too well. My absolute favorite part, talking about his alleged first trainer: Davis was only able to train with Brown for three months; a heavy-drinking biker from St. Louis and one-time member of the WCW’s Dog Catchers, Brown died of an aneurysm at 31.You can't BUY carny like that. EDIT: I looked at his Myspace page. Hah! Chris Champion is his #1 friend, followed by Dr. Death, Verne Gagne, and Honkeytonk Man. Uh-huh. The irony is I've personally worked shows with a dozen of his Top Friends guys, and could personally ask at least two of 'em if they've ever heard of this goof and what the deal is, if I was so bored that I really felt like spending that much time and effort on this waste of humanity. Loss
It's weird to be nostalgic about 2004, but Trish Stratus's little heel run was so awesome (the Vince skit where she had the broken nose, showing up at Lita's wedding in lingerie, getting a feud with Lita over enough to headline an episode of RAW) that it seemed like something worth talking about. Big Show flipped a car over, I think he was in theory at least aiming for someone. Kane tried to run over Raven with a golf cart at Wrestlemania X7. And wasn't there some segment with Mark Henry holding back a car as a feat of strength that someone tried to sabotage? His last television appearance took place at the 6/3 SmackDown taping in Los Angeles in a quick loss to Vladimir Kozlov. -- Contrary to a number of Internet reports, Amy Hennig, the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig, is actually not under a developmental contract to WWE. However, she is indeed training at Harley Race's wrestling school in Missouri and they have plans for her to debut soon for his World League Wrestling promotion. -- Val Venis is out of action following shoulder surgery. He should be good to go in three to four months. His last appearance in a WWE ring took place on 4/18 during a tour of Spain in a loss to Paul Burchill. Venis hasn't been on television since the 4/14 Heat taping in London when he lost to Snitsky. In other Venis-related news, he has opened an online travel business with his wife. You can find their website at BrisaTips.com. -- Back in May, there was a lot of commotion when over 26 hours of Nick Hogan's jailhouse phone conversations with his family were made public. The tapes included comments by Nick, Hulk and Linda talking about Nick getting a reality show when he's released from prison and God laying some "heavy sh*t" on the "negative" John Graziano. Last month, the Hogans sued to stop the release of the tapes, but the Pinellas County Sheriff now says that jailhouse calls are public records and that Nick can't expect any privacy within the jail. The Sheriff says the records are "non-confidential" and nobody gets special treatment. -- Hulk Hogan was in the audience front and center last weekend when his daughter Brooke performed with a burlesque troupe this weekend in South Beach (Miami). TMZ does not shy away from the creepiness that Hogan's new woman looks a lot like his daugther, calling McDaniel a "Brooke-alike". Law enforcement sources have stated that Rampage was in a car crash near Newport Beach, California and then fled the scene. Cops had to chase him down and he eventually pulled over. Several police officers had their weapons drawn and ordered Jackson to the ground. He was arrested and charged with felony hit and run and felony evading arrest. Ironically, Rampage was riding in an SUV that had a picture of himself painted on the side. TMZ reports that there could be additional charges filed. No word yet on whether he resisted arrest. -- Last night's edition of WWE Raw drew a 3.2 cable rating, down from the 3.5s of the last few weeks and back to where the show was doing before the draft. Last night's show did hours of 3.11 and 3.29. TNA worked with a local Houston radio station to run a contest asking fans to call in to win the chance at being a lumberjack at the pay-per-view. TNA also picked a national winner for providing the best video promo. It should also be noted that the winner happened to live in a nearby Texas town. -- The TNA website has posted the commercial for the brand-new TNA Wrestling Trading Card series. During the commercial, the voice over man says, "TNA Wrestling presents its very first trading card set, TNA iMPACT!." This is actually untrue as TNA teamed up with Pacific Trading Cards Inc. to release a trading card set in 2004. Apparently, TNA hooked up with a dying company at the time as Pacific Trading Cards went out of business and had its properties purchased by Donruss one year later. http://www.tradingcardcentral.com/news/2004/03/28_001.php -- Sans a video package of John Bradshaw Layfield's attempt to crash an automobile into John Cena on Monday's edition of Raw, there was no mention made of his condition and/or possible storyline murder by the announcers on Tuesday's night edition of ECW. When the announcers were running down the card for next Sunday's Great American Bash pay-per-view, they simply plugged Cena's upcoming "New York City Parking Lot Brawl" match with JBL and added nothing else, acting as if nothing happened on Monday night. According to WWE.com, Cena was simply "grazed" by the oncoming automobile and that he's okay enough to fight Layfield at next Sunday's pay-per-view. On another note, the video package that aired on ECW featured a camera shot not seen on Raw from inside the car that JBL struck, and as luck would have it, the owner of the vehicle just so happened to have a camera recording inside and precisely pointed in the direction of the forthcoming crash. On the other hand, perhaps JBL planted the camera inside the car because he wanted to videotape his own attempt at murder. -- As reported earlier, a Michigan man was arrested on Tuesday for attempting to meet what he thought was a 14-year-old girl for sex. When he was arrested, he just so happened to be wearing the WWE "World's Greatest Dad" T-Shirt, which WWEShop.com put on sale last month for their Father's Day promotion. Due to the "World's Greatest Dad" slogan on the WWE shirt, it looks like this story is going to be garnering some mainstream headlines. The Associated Press is now reporting the story, and FoxNews.com has posted the article alongside a picture of the Internet predator sporting the WWE "World's Greatest Dad" T-Shirt. USA finished slightly ahead of the Disney Channel for the week. Spike TV, featuring TNA Impact, finished in seventeenth place. http://tvbythenumbers.com/2008/07/15/weekl...-july-7-13/4436 Lance Storm Blog Random TV Thoughts WWE: RAW July 14, 2008 - That was the worst bloody ending to a wrestling show ever. Did WWE hear about the crap finish to the TNA PPV and decide to top it with something even dumber? This ruined the entire show for me and I am mad beyond words. - Before we even get to the murder or at least attempted murder on RAW, what was up with the CRAP finish to the match. Since when, ever in the entire history of wrestling, has a save on a pin attempt by a partner in the match been a DQ? NEVER!!!! - They couldn't find one person in that entire match that could do a job, or come up with a better DQ than JBL breaking up a submission hold? F---ing AWFUL! - Now onto the attempted murder. Stuff like this ruins wrestling for me. I know this shit is supposed to be "fake" but we are still supposed to be able to believe it's real while watching it, and I could no longer do that after JBL tried to and I assume succeeded in killing John Cena, on live television. If we are to believe Cena got hit he has to be dead, and even if he moved, JBL attempted to kill a man on tv and will have to be arrested for attempted murder for this angle to be believable in the slightest. - This doesn't even cover the fact that they in no way even came close to booking enough motivation for JBL to go to these lengths. They stood on the apron across from each other for the whole match, and then after JBL kicks Cena in the head once we are to believe that he is somehow now pushed over the edge to the point where he attempts to murder Cena. - Worst angle since Papa Shango put a voodoo curse on the Ultimate Warrior. - On a more humorous note perhaps Kane some how got his RAW scripts a couple weeks early and the inexplicable "is he dead or is he alive" crap is in reference to John Cena and Kane just started his part of the angle a few weeks early. - I think I'm going to take a break from RAW and go watch SD. At least there I get to hear Jim Ross. - We reported here yesterday that UFC star Quinton "Rampage" Jackson was arrested at gunpoint yesterday in California after crashing into 2 cars, fleeing the scene and leading police on a 5-minute car chase. He was charged with felony hit and run and felony evading arrest and was taken to a hospital last night for evaluation. New details have surfaced regarding the incident. TMZ.com reports that Rampage was on the 55 Freeway in Orange County, California when he hit 2 cars. Instead of stopping, he got off the freeway and the police chase was on. Rampage then began driving on the center divider. According to the police report, Jackson then drove on the sidewalk, "causing pedestrians to flee for their lives." He started driving the wrong way on a crowded street, colliding with yet another car in an intersection. It's not over yet. As he continued on, running several red lights, his tire blew out and he began driving on the rim. He eventually got to Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach, where he again driving on the sidewalk, "causing pedestrians to flee in terror." His car eventually came to a stop and he was taken into custody at gunpoint. Cops took him to the Orange County Jail, but they determined he was "medically unfit" to be booked. No word on whether drugs were involved. Rampage is currently under evaluation at an Orange County hospital. In an interview conducted with Throwdown TV just 24 hours before the incident (video link), Rampage seemed a little off, but revealed that he had been battling depression, injuries as well as sleep and weight issues in recent weeks. http://www.tmz.com/tmz_main_video?titleid=1670053929 - WWE has re-launched the official Florida Championship Wrestling website with a new design and new content. While much of the official website is still under construction, there are details posted on tomorrow night's first television taping at the new FCW Arena in Tampa. Here is a summary of what was posted: Tickets will be available at the door starting at 4PM tomorrow but are "very limited". There will be several WWE names on hand as John Cena, Chris Jericho, and Kelly Kelly will be in attendance as well as WWE Hall-of-Famers Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, Rocky Johnson, and Gerry Briscoe. Click here to access the official website of Florida Championship Wrestling. http://www.fcwwrestling.com/ - To update you on Brian Kendrick's new gimmick that he worked under at last night's SmackDown taping, Kendrick worked as a heel with a large African American bodyguard. Kendrick's bodyguard is Rycklon Stephens, a WWE developmental talent billed at 306 lbs. According to our correspondents in the arena, Kendrick was wearing what looked to be an old white Shawn Michaels leather biker-like jacket. Apparently the gimmick change was to give him a distinct identity now that he is working as a singles wrestler as opposed to a tag team wrestler with Paul London. Regarding his push, I have been told for months that WWE management has had bigger plans for him. - WWE will allow head SmackDown creative writer Michael Hayes to appear at the NWA Wrestling Legends Fanfest on Friday, August 15th in Charlotte, North Carolina. Hayes will be signing autographs from 10 AM to 1 PM. Later that night he will induct his former Freebird partner Buddy Roberts into the NWA Wrestling Legends Hall of Heroes. - Lilian Garcia has posted a new blog on the WWE Fan Nation website where she advises fans that who have asked her questions about improving their singing.
