They all keep doing it and dying, and they call us ignorant.

Loss laughing at this makes me feel better about reading it and envisioning Kev taking some bad peyote and predicting the whole "bugchasing" thing.

Next week, on "Kevin Von Erich: Bigot or Visionary?"...."And there's gonna be this one guy, Perez Hilton, he's gonna be the end of western civilization, man!"

Give us some background

Basically that guy was a local nobody indy wrestler who worked one of the main newspapers into believing he was a big star in the WWF and WCW (and New Japan as well). Pretty much the only thing true about the story is that the guy is from Pittsburgh.

Fun Fact: one of my best friends had a friend-of-a-friend who knew this guy, my friend insisted for like a month I had to know him because he knew I was a wrestling fan.

Wow...

So is he the latest that was once in the doghouse but now will no longer be buried by the company?

Strange article. No mention of Liz at all.

John

Maybe they're finally getting up off the guy and not doing the ridiculous "you killed Liz" stuff.

I'm just glad to see the guy's looking better than those emaciated post-paralysis pics.

I was thinking today, has there ever been someone booked on top who's such a mis-mash of prior gimmicks as John Cena? WWE is so quick to repackage guys as soon as they decide to give them the big push, but Cena's still out there in his baggy-shorts-and-tennis-shoes from his original rapper gimmick, dog tag chain (which somehow has become a treasured item he must kiss before handing to the ref) from his "promoting The Marine" phase, and his t-shirts still reference the "Hustle, Loyalty, Respect" motto from his Chain Gang gangsta period.

Then you have guys like the Miz, who once they get blessed from above ditch their Cena-with-a-Bedazzler pants for an outfit that if WWE was CMLL would make him look like Jerichocito.

Setting aside the "you killed Liz" meme of the WWE, it's pretty hard to tell the story of Lex in an article coming back from the depths without mentioning one of the central parts of the depths. Which makes it a puff piece, which of course reading it makes clear.

It's a 180 for the WWE to go from "you killed Liz" to a white-washy puff piece. While Vince and the WWE go in 180's all the time, this one is really odd. I'm just not seeing who in the WWE heirarchy has a soft spot for Lex to 180 on him. It's not like Lex was well liked in the business, or had a lot of friends. Sting was a friend, but they split when Sting got religion and Sting isn't in the WWE. Other than that...

It's really strange given the years of hate. As much as Vince hates Savage, one could see Vince and Steph waking up one day and forgotting the hate and suddenly loving Randy. He was always one of Vince's all-time favorites. With Lex...

Yeah, I'm just not seeing it. Really odd. :)

I look forward to Dave reporting the story behind this.

Pretty pathetic how they barely mention Lex's last WCW stint. Of course it was during the time WWF got their asses handed to them so maybe it's better not to talk about Lex winning the title from Hogan on Nitro which got big ratings I believe. Plus it really reminds people that Vince didn't knew how to do business with Luger while WCW knew how to get the most out of him. And no word on Liz is just baffling. Yeah, Lex has had a "dark period", whatever it is. Can't wait the Kevin Sullivan piece where they don't mention Nancy or his programm with the Name that shouldn't been told. Anyway...

No word on Liz isn't baffling; it's perfectly logical. Why would WWE want to draw attention to her sleazy death in the piece? The whole point of these articles is to prove that not every ex WWE wrestler is a broken down drug addict waiting to die.

I also wouldn't read too much into this puff piece on Luger being published on the WWE website. It's probably below Vince and Steph's radar.

Well, a few years ago, before the Benoit tragedy, the entire piece would have been about Lex being responsible for Liz's death or something. And like John said, what's the point of telling the story of his "comeback to brighter days" if you don't even mention what those "dark days" were. Oh, anyway. At least Lex isn't in a wheelchair anymore, which is good.

I thought Lex and Sting fell out when Mrs. Sting helped Sting get religion and Lex continued to chase the demon. Perhaps now that Lex has found religion (well... for now since one always keeps Jake in mind), Sting has rebuilt his old friendship.

  • 4 weeks later...

From Alvarez on the tuesday update:

-- Speaking of Hogan, the Pontiac Silverdome, the site of WrestleMania III with Hogan vs. Andre, sold today for $583,000. I am not making that figure up. A half million dollars. A completely ridiculous price. So ridiculous that we should have run a fund-raiser on this site and all got together to purchase it. Where I went to elementary school, right across the street they are building a new development and all of the houses there will sell for more than the Pontiac Silverdome. And where I went to high school there is a new development across the street, right next to some horse stables, actually, which you would think would bring down the price, that are going to sell for close to double the price of the Pontiac Silverdome.

It IS a low price, but I think if Alvarez factored in that there are probably a lot of structural upgrades needed at this point, and there isn't any sort of regular tenant affixed to it to pay rent that I know of, he probably wouldn't be so blown away by that number.

I mean, you buy it, but what do you use it for? Probably you tear it down and use the land for some sort of shopping mall or other new project. Tearing it down would cost big bucks, too.

I just found his reaction funny.
