Loser Leaves Town Match!

Billy Jack Strong vs.???

Strong waits in the ring with confidence as Greg Gagne strolls in and grabs the mic.

Gagne: Listen up Billy Jackass, you thought you got one over on Gagne's Gang, but think again. I told you the muscle was coming and here he is. The man who's going to send you packing, my newest client...Tony Atlas!

The crowd boos as Atlas comes down the aisle and into the ring. Atlas hugs Gagne. Gagne points and laughs at Strong before exiting. The Ref signals for the bell.

Atlas and Strong lock up. Atlas pushes Strong back and starts flexing. Strong nods his head and locks up again. Atlas rears back and pushes Strong down again. Atlas does more flexing as Gagne applauds. They lock up again, but this time Strong rears back and pushes Atlas down. Atlas is pissed as Strong does some flexing of his own.

Gagne slides into the ring and out the other side. Strong slides into the ring but runs right into a clothesline from Atlas.

Atlas works Strong over with punches, thrusts, stomps, chokes and headbutts. Gagne also gets his shots in while Atlas distracts the Ref. Atlas goes for a suplex but Strong fights it and suplexes Atlas!

Strong fires up and goes to town on Atlas with slams, back drops and suplexes. Strong hits a backbreaker, hops on the middle ropes and connects with a knee drop 1..2..Kick Out. Strong hoists Atlas up and hits a running shoulder breaker 1..2..(Gagne puts Atlas's foot on the rope) The Ref sees Atlas foot and tells Strong. Gagne's on the apron. Fans, this weekend, in Alaska at Title Night, you're going to see all the titles on the line plus Dave Taylor vs. The Ultimate Warrior. It will be a historic night indeed. Let's get back to the ring for a special tag team match up.

The Gunslingers vs. A mystery team

The Gunslingers wait patiently for their unknown opponents. A ring attendant comes in the ring and hands the announcer a note. He announces the mystery team as The Unhinged Outlaws.

Jesse Barr and Joel Deaton hit the ring and start brawling with the Gunslingers! The next few minutes is nothing but a pier six brawl. The match never officially begins but there's one heck of a fight happening.

Commercial Break

Nelson: My goodness! I have no idea what that was all about. Apparently, Jesse Barr and Joel Deaton have an issue with the Gunslingers. Jeez, ok let's get back to the ring.

Kokina w/Abbuda Iaukea vs. Todd Rooney

Kokina hits the Samoan Drop and it's all over.

Iaukea cuts a promo and warns Nick Busick that Kokina isn't done with him!

Commercial Break

The bell rings as Sawyer hits the ring and charges Colon. Colon's taken off guard as Sawyer punches and stomps him into the corner. Sawyer picks up Colon and hangs him upside down in the corner and continues to kick and stomp away on Colon. Sawyer then starts biting Colon. Sawyer yanks Colon out. Sawyer slams Colon, hops on the middle ropes and comes down with a double stomp to the chest. Sawyer paces around the ring like a madman, yelling and laughing. Sawyer slowly walks over and picks up Colon for a slam, but Colon cradles him 1..2..3! Big POP!

Colon rolls over but Sawyer starts pounding away on him. Sawyer swings Colon to the ropes and hits his powerslam. Sawyer goes to the outside and grabs his chain. As he heads to the ring, a swarm of security guards and officials run out to stop him. Sawyer starts going crazy and swings his chain around. As all this is going on, a groggy Colon slowly regroups, rolls to the outside and grabs a chair. Sawyer is telling him to bring it as he swings his chain. More Security and wrestlers come out to prevent a bloodbath. The show ends on this chaotic scene.

For some reason, I couldn't post pictures. Hopefully I'll figure it out.

Synergy provide an exciting opener.

Well Gagne promised muscle and Tony Atlas definitely qualifies.

Nikita & Fujinami both look strong heading into the Memorial Day tournament.

Speaking of which, Dream Machine is in babay!

The Harris Brothers arrive to put in work.

Barr & Deaton? Yeah I'd say Unhinged Outlaws is a good description.

Kokina sends Busick a painful message.

Sawyer vs Colon? Bring on the carnage!

Yeah I couldn't post pics here either so I think there's something going on with the thread.

All 4 men end up going at it. Norvell hops on the apron but gets dropkicked off. Venomous backdrop Condrey over the top rope. Griz swings Adias to the ropes and puts him down with a back elbow smash, then follows with a big elbow drop 1..2..Kick Out. AWA C.O.O. Gerry Morrow comes in and hands the titles to the Guerreros. The Guerreros celebrate with the fans and hold the titles high. They finally exit.

Vinnie and Kelly are on the outside still arguing with DJ. It gets really heated. Vinnie is throwing a fit and poking his finger in DJ's chest telling him it's all his fault. Vinnie then slaps DJ! DJ grabs Vinnie and yanks him in, but Kelly nails DJ from behind and starts kicking away. Vinnie joins in. They hurl DJ into the ring. Vinnie tosses a chair into the ring. Kelly picks up DJ, clamps on the full nelson and slams DJ face first into the chair! DJ's a bloody mess. Kelly picks up DJ, but thank goodness the Guerreros run back in and clear the ring. Taylor proved a tough test but the Warrior passed regardless.

Bad night for Austin as his men go 0-2.

Poffo saves Zbyszko's Mid-America title. The feud with Idol just got even more intense.

A lightning fast win by Los Guerrero's leads to the break up we all knew was coming.

After another stiff challenge, Brown can still raise the world title high.

Bad News is my man here in the AWA. Larry Z vs Austin Idol is kind of a darling match for me... two guys who had hype from either themselves or others but it would be fun to see it unfold here. The Warrior is primed for greatness or something along those lines in 1988. He may be just what the AWA needs to rise to the top of the wrestling world once again!

First to the Hammond center...

I have never seen a Loser Leave Town Match with a mystery partner.  Those matches are usually for big blow offs between two stars but it works so well here as Gagne is the real opponent.... Anything to hurt Gagne would be seen as a big deal.  Very creative.

Tough night for the fan favorites with Atlas over Strong and Dream Machine over Rich.  This is a great way to sell tickets in my opinion as we always want to see our favorites overcome the enemies.  I think most people always want to see the underdog.

Colon vs Buzz Sawyer.... perfectly natural.

Thanks for helping out WCCW with Chris Adams and you deserve some extra credit for the quick and painless revamping of some big angles in AWA.

Now on to Alaska...

Such an awesome venue.  Great choice.

I got the feeling that this event was used to change up some angles but not to really change the course of the AWA.  Very smart considering this was the first time in Alaska and you might want to reward more loyal fans like Minnesota with major changes like a new AWA champ or something.

Looking forward to seeing Idol vs Poffo... Old vs New.... Charisma vs Charisma .... Interesting match-up.  I am interested to see what is next for Larry Z.  I know I have said it before but I hated him in real life but since writing for him and reading your storylines, I can't get enough.

Great build up to the Kevin Kelly/DJ split.  Another great mid-card feud is born.

The Ultimate Warrior Era has begun!

Awesome week.  I hope Alaska becomes a yearly thing.

Highlights from Title Night are shown including The Guerreros defeating DJ Peterson and Kevin Kelly for the AWA world tag titles. Afterwards, Kelly and Vin Man attack Peterson.

Adias, Venomous and Zbyszko all retain their titles. The last image is Bad News Brown holding up his fist and the world title.

Larry Nelson: Hello everybody and welcome to another edition of AWA Major League Wrestling. Tonight's names drawn for the TV title contender's match are Pat Tanaka and Johnny Mantell. Those two will wrestle tonight with the winner getting a TV title shot next week. AWA World champ Bad News Brown will be here. Big tag team match as Synergy takes on the Original Midnight Express. We'll also be giving you the first round match ups in the Memorial Day Tournament. Speaking of Memorial Day...

Boos as Brenda Britton walks out.

Brenda: I'll take it from here Larry, so beat it.

Nelson rolls his eyes and exits.

Britton: Hi everybody! Please welcome out the best AWA C.O.O. ever, Gerry Morrow!

Morrow walks out in his white suit, fedora hat and sunglasses. He smiles and kisses Brenda's hand.

Britton: Oh Gerry, you're such a gentleman. Ok, so I understand you have some big announcements regarding Memorial Day?

Morrow: Thank you so much Brenda, it is always my pleasure. I'll get right to it. Congratulations to Hector and Chavo Guerrero on winning de AWA world tag team titles. Very well done. Now as you remember, I promised Greg Gagne his Fortunate Ones would get a title shot. Dat will happen at Memorial Day.

Britton: Wow! That's going to be an intense match. Now Gerry, I also know you have big news regarding the AWA world title.

Morrow: HAHAHAHA! I do indeed. A lot of people are aware that there's an Independent Wrestling promotion in Minneapolis called Pro Wrestling America. Dat is run by Eddie Sharkey. Well Mr. Sharkey invited me to an event dat took place 2 days after I got back from Alaska. At dat event, there was a battle royal. Well, I decided to have some fun and put up some stakes in de battle royal. I told Mr. Sharkey dat whoever wins de battle royal would get an AWA world title shot on Memorial Day in St. Paul.

Britton: No way! That is brilliant! So who won?

Morrow: You won't believe it but none other than Dick de Bruiser.

Britton: How about that! Well, I would certainly call him a legend and I know the fans in Minnesota love that guy.

Morrow: HAHAHA! They sure do! Hey, as long as I am de C.O.O. I promise to bring some fun to de AWA. So, on Memorial Day, Bad News Brown will defend de AWA world title against Dick de Bruiser. Can you believe dat?

Britton: (smiling while shaking her head) There you have it straight from the AWA C.O.O. Anything can happen and Gerry proved that once again. Until we meet again, toooooodles!

Footage from Title Night is shown as Lanny Poffo once again interferes and costs Austin Idol his chance at the Mid American title.

'Luscious' Lanny Poffo vs. Trent Watkins

poffo.jpg.0c76ea2ae6c41b399e5a3a02582d781a.jpg

Poffo's antics gets him a lot of heat as he skips and prances around the ring. Poffo gets down to business and wins the match with an exciting moonsault.

Nelson: Lanny Poffo! Just what is your deal with Austin Idol? Why can't you confront him face to face?

Poffo: Lawrence, you're such a simpleton. I have addressed this with you before and do not have time to explain it again. I am here every week and that pretty boy Idol will not confront me. He is the coward. He is afraid to get in the ring with a real wrestler, a real man. I will not leave this alone until that spineless coward is gone!

Nelson: Well, you're going to get your wish. Next week it will be you and Austin Idol, one on one.

Poffo: (shocked look) What! I did not authorize this!

Nelson: Well, it's going to happen.

A commercial cuts as Poffo argues with Nelson.

Commercial Break

Synergy vs. The Original Midnight Express w/Norvell Austin

rice.jpg.49a7dd4673c95822472e3214d6fe0f93.jpgs.armstrong.jpg.100f36470a8e6cf9025abeccf5dafc2b.jpgmidnites.jpg.aa94f1ab166a4acfa0ab0b41260afd12.jpg

Fun seesaw battle as both teams show off their chemistry well. Synergy excites the fans with some high octane offense and high flying stereo moves. Midnights cut things off and put their teamwork skills to work. They hit a few double team maneuvers of their own. Things go back and forth for a few more minutes until the 10 minute time limit expires.

After the match, tempers flare and both teams get into a shoving match. Norvell gets in there but Synergy punch him down and start hammering away on the Midnights. CANNONBALL GRIZ hits the ring but before he can do any damage, SCOTT PUTSKI slides in and all hell breaks loose as a pier six brawl goes into the commercial break.

Commercial Break

Nelson: My goodness, things got pretty crazy. (deep breath) Joining me now is Greg Gagne.

Gagne: You better work on your introductions nerd. Think about that while I talk. Gagne's Gang is on the roll of a lifetime. We've got the muscle in Tony Atlas, who by the way sent Billy Jackass packing. My Fortunate Ones are going to end the Guerreros short and pathetic world tag title run, and of course Crusher Blackwell is going to mow over the competition at the Memorial Day Tournament, starting with that masked moron Canek, who I can't stand.

Cheers as Nick Busick comes out.

Gagne: Well, what a surprise. If you're looking for a job, Gagne's Gang is all booked up.

Busick: Shut up gutless! Last year, Billy Jack Strong and I went through hell beating each other up. What came out of that was mutual respect. He stood up for me and was there for me. He didn't deserve what happened to him. I can tell you this Gagne, if I was here last week, that wouldn't have happened. I'll make this simple. I want you in the ring!

Big Pop

Gagne: Let me get this straight. You want a match with me?

Busick: You heard me just fine. Either you accept or I'll drag you into that ring right now!

Another Big Pop

Gagne: You've got guts kid. However, I think you have bigger things to worry about.

WHAM!

Kokina nails Busick from behind! Abbuda Iaukea starts hitting Busick with a kendo stick.

Gagne smiles and walks away.

Kokina picks up Busick and belly to belly suplexes him on the concrete! Kokina backs up and hits a running splash on Busick! Busick's laid out on the concrete. Kokina puts his foot on Busick's chest as Iaukea raises his arm.

Commercial Break

Chicky Starr vs. Arnie Goldstein

chicky.jpg.818c022291bbab632db36ce76c879c70.jpg

Chicky wins the match with his corkscrew elbow drop.

Nelson: Chicky Starr, at the Memorial Day Tournament, you'll be facing Carlos Colon in the 1st round.

Starr: (smiling) Carlos! Carlos! Carlos! My old amigo Carlos. AHHHHHHH we meet again after all this time. It will be like old times when I beat you once again Carlos. (smiles) I've been waiting a long time for this day.

Commercial Break

Footage from Title Night is shown as Kevin Kelly clamps a full nelson on DJ Peterson and slams him down face first into a chair.

Nelson: Joining me now is the Vin Man and former AWA world tag team champion Kevin Kelly.

kelly.jpg.4af75abb8da9e4a54d67ca41ee8d56cc.jpgvin.jpg.2b77a1cd8bddd7998b4bc2452e5ed337.jpg

Kelly: Don't push my buttons Larry, or you're going to get worse than what Peterson got!

Vin: Larbo, you hit a sore spot. Come on, what's with you? I thought we were pals. We had it all! We were champions! And then that stupid dope of a dummy, DJ Peterson had to go and ruin everything! I bought the man a shirt and everything. Even after all that bad history, Kevbo and myself were willing to make this work. But NOOOOOOO, DJ just had to get all ethical on us. Look where that got him. Listen up Peterson! You blew it and we'll never ever forgive you! Once you heal up that ugly face of yours, come on back, so Kevbo can finish the job.

Kelly: Bring it on Peterson! I'm going to crush your face...again!

As Kelly and Vinnie walk off, Dream Machine runs out.

Commercial Break

Nelson: The Unhinged Outlaws better be on high alert because I know the Gunslingers will be looking for a showdown. Fans. at the top of the program you heard the major announcement by Gerry Morrow. On Memorial Day, Bad News Brown will be defending the AWA world title against Dick the Bruiser. I grew up watching Bruiser and I have to admit I'm ecstatic about this. Bruiser sent us some taped comments, let's hear them now.

Bruiser: It's been a long time since I had an opportunity like this. I may be a bit older and have a few more miles on me, but I promise you this Bad News Brown, I've got a fight left in me and you've got a fight coming! See you on Memorial Day!

Back live

Nelson: On that note, joining me now is the AWA world champion, Bad News Brown.

Brown looks like a million bucks as he comes out wearing his buttoned down shirt with gold chains and world title on his shoulder.

Nelson: Bad News, you recently defended that world title in Alaska against a game Rip Oliver. Now I'm sure you're as shocked as we all are, because from out of nowhere you'll be defending your title against Dick the Bruiser.

Brown: (pauses) Is this a joke? I can't believe this is even happening. Dick the Bruiser? Really? I mean maybe if this were 1968, I can see it being somewhat of a legit match. But come on! Is that old washed up has been delusional or something? Is everybody in on this joke except me? (pauses) Well, it looks like I'm going to have to make an example out of that poor old fool. It looks like I'm going to have to send a strong message to anybody else who wants to get in the ring with Bad News Brown. Dick the Bruiser, come Memorial Day, I'm going to give you the worst beating you've ever had. I'm going to pound, pummel and put a hurt'n on you like you've never imagined! You all wanna have fun? I'm sure as hell gonna have fun bloodying up Father Time. After I get done with him, everybody's gonna know why he's called Bruiser. And believe me, that's some serious bad news for him!

badnews.jpg.5c2af72d0398f8065b426fca47d2f2db.jpg

The show ends with Brown holding his fist and title in the air.

Morrow starts the show with a couple of big title match announcements. The Fortunate Ones get their promised tag title shot and Dick the Bruiser returns for one last shot at the world title. Nice angle having him win it at another show. Was Pro Wrestling America an actual promotion?

The first round of the Memorial Day tournament looks stacked. Canek is definitely a favorite.

Poffo switched gears real quick when he heard he already had a match with Idol.

A TV draw leads to a blow up between Synergy/Putski & Austin's crew.

Busick tries to stand up to Gagne for BJS but Kokina isn't done with him yet.

Chicky isn't sweating his first round match with Colon.

Kelly & Vin Man give a actually pretty intense promo....than Dream Machine runs in at the end to celebrate being in the tournament. Lol.

Los Guerrero's are ready for their first defense on Memorial Day.

Tanaka gets a TV title shot thanks to the Unhinged Outlaws.

The champ clearly isn't taking the legendary Bruiser seriously. Let's see how that works out for him.

Oliver & The Harris Brothers gets dominant showings.

Even two men can't stop the Ultimate Warrior.

Iaukea ensures Putski falls to the savage Kokina.

The Unhinged Outlaws couldn't wait for the match to start to get their hands on The Gunslingers.

Atlas & Gagne with tainted win over Rich.

A star studded main event allows you to progress several stories at once. Blackwell Gagne screw over Canek to win the first fall. Nikita pins the Mid-America champ to even the odds then things get crazy in the final fall leading to a tie.

Really fun TV show with a lot of twists and turns.

Morrow goes to Pro Wrestling America and finds Dick the Bruiser... very creative.

Really like the 1st round matchups for the Memorial Day Tournament.  I could see you going in a number of directions here.

Great booking with the Idol/Poffo situation.  The heel calls out Idol knowing he is not there but then when the match is signed, he does a quick reversal.  I wonder what Poffo's Plan B will be.

Synergy and the Original Midnight Express give us exactly what I loved as a kid--- a good ol' Pier Six Brawl!

Glad Bully is back but is this beginning of the HUGE build up of Kokina?  Again, another of your midcard masterpieces.

Dream Machine is good on the mic but maybe time to keep your mouth shut... Nikita seems ready for a big push.

I like your format for the TV title.  It gives you a constant angle.  I might steal this down the road.

As for the Brown County Arena... I think I might have been right before as Kokina continues his rise but I have been wrong so many times Bully might just put a stop to it.

Rich gets straight to the point, he's not done with Dream Machine.

The monster Haystacks is back and gunning for the Warrior.

Austin gives his boys a hand in route to trios victory.

Venomous is on point.

Tanaka doesn't get the TV title but it looks like he & Diamond win the Baby Doll tag team search.

Successful night for Gagne, his Fortune Ones get a win and his new muscle Atlas lays out his ex Duker.

The Unhinged Outlaws are out to prove to everyone they're the TRUE cowboys of the AWA.

Idol gets his hands on Poffo and the Lucious one is left in a bad way.

Nice win for Brian Adias over a tough competitor in Pat Tanaka. I thought Tanaka who be the one to dethrone Adias as the toughest competition he's had to face.

Not a good night for Scott Putski.

Equally tough night for Duke Myers. His return might be a short lived one with Tony Atlas on his case, doing Greg Gagne's dirty work.

AWA medics certainly earned their money having to tend to Canek, Fujinami, Colon, Los Guerreros & I'm guessing Bruiser.

His man may not have won the tournament but Gagne's Gang certainly left a mark.

Warrior & Kokina both get chances to flex.

Bad News gets major cred taking out the legend.

Nikita endures three tough opponents to earn himself a world title shot. Nikita vs Brown is gonna tear the house down.

The AWA continues to roll.  I love the introduction of all the new angles on the TV show.

Great way to push Ultimate Warrior... all he has to do is beat the largest wrester in the world.

Poor Duke Myers... I wouldn't want to see Atlas coming after me.

Awesome match between Adias and Tanaka.  This would have been the highlight of almost any TV show I saw as a kid.

Poffo and Idol... this is going to be a wild ride.

WOW... What a Memorial Day.... And the MVP of the event.... The Medics!!!

Can't wait to see BNB vs Nikita.  I was not sure which direction you were going to go with BNB vs Colon but for most of his title run, I thought I had an idea where you were headed.  For this one... I have no Idea!  It's going to be great.

Warrior storms the ring, pounds away on Thompson, presses him up, drops him and hits a body splash for the win!

Nelson: Ultimate Warrior, you've taken the AWA by storm and have beaten all in your path. Giant Haystacks issued the challenge and you accepted. That happens at WrestleRock. Are you prepared for a behemoth like Haystacks?

Warrior: The bigger they are, the harder they fall! At WrestleRock, Giant Haystacks will fall to the Ultimate Warriorrrrrrrrrr! (Shakes his head and arms) AAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHH!

Commercial Break

Sawyer tears Watkins to shreds before finishing him off with a powerslam!

Nelson: Buzz Sawyer, since you've arrived, you've been causing serious problems for Carlos Colon. Just what is your issue?

Sawyer: (Maniacal laugh) I'm just having fun.

Nelson: Well, we'll see how much fun you have at WrestleRock, when you face Colon in a Caribbean Death Match.

Sawyer: That sounds like a lot of fun! Colon! You think you got me on this, but you fell right into my trap. Now I can beat you up as bad as I want! I can hurt you as much as I want and there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it! Get your affairs in order Colon!

Commercial Break

Nick Busick and The Gunslingers vs. The Unhinged Outlaws and Kokina w/Abbuda Iaukea

We get a wild one here as all 6 men go at it. Busick is still hurting a bit from Kokina's attack a couple weeks ago, but he's going toe to toe with Kokina right now. The Gunslingers and Outlaws are having a serious slugfest. The Ref can't get control and signals for the Double DQ. The bell's ringing but the fists continue to fly into the commercial break.

Commercial Break

Badd Co. w/Baby Doll vs. Todd Rooney and Ray Glader

badcom.jpg.1e8a72679daca614fa082c29e3a5481e.jpg2105483320_babydoll.jpg.7988824becd399ba1f2ff833033414d5.jpg

Obviously Baby Doll has made a quick impact because Badd Co. looks refreshed and focused tonight. Tanaka superkicks Glader into a bridging back suplex by Diamond for the win.

Nelson: Well.....

Baby Doll: I don't have time for you Nelson. You just saw the resurgence of the very best team in wrestling, Badd Company. Everybody is talking about WrestleRock. Well, I promised my team big things and I always deliver. Next week Badd Co. will face the AWA National tag champs Venomous in a non title match. I have worked out a deal with Gerry Morrow and here it is. If my team loses, all three of us will leave the AWA. However, if we win and we will, my team will get a National tag title shot at WrestleRock. I have faith in Badd Company and therefore I have nothing to worry about. The stars are coming out for WrestleRock and it only makes sense that the biggest stars are there.

Commercial Break

The Harris Brothers vs. Seth Maxwell and Phil Elliot

They're attacked from behind by the Glamour Boys! The Glamour Boys swing Ron into the steel post and follow with a double dropkick on Don! The Glamour Boys jump down on the Harris Brothers and pound away. Prelim wrestlers run out to break this up.

Commercial Break

'The Man of Steel' Tony Atlas w/Greg Gagne vs. Hank Simpson

atlas.jpg.aeceb2b810ca79d7f91aa2a5858eded3.jpg

Atlas brutalizes his opponent before finishing him off with 3 consecutive Overhead Suplexes.

Crusher Blackwell and the Fortunate Ones join Gagne and Atlas at ringside.

Nelson: Well, looks like the gang's all here. I'm sure your all very proud of yourselves after what happened on Memorial Day.

Gagne: Watch the sarcasm nerd! First up, I understand Duke Myers has asked for a match with Tony Atlas next week. Tony, tell good old Duker what's in store for him.

Atlas: Duke Myers! You're going to pay for letting the great Greg Gagne down. You want me in the ring? Come and get some boy!

Gagne: (Smiles) Let's talk about Memorial Day. We finished off that masked freak El Canek and then we not only destroyed Chavo and Hector but we put Mando out of commission. I told you Gagne's Gang rules this place and I was right. Now, the way I see it, my Fortunate Ones should be the world tag team champs. Where's our belts? Go get them nerd, now!

Nelson: Funny you should mention the titles. It appears the Guerreros have talked with Gerry Morrow and a match has been signed for WrestleRock. Listen to this. The match will take place inside a steel cage! It will be El Canek teaming with Hector and Chavo Guerrero. Their opponents will be Crusher Blackwell and the Fortunate Ones. And, the world tag titles will be on the line.

Gagne: Ok, now you're talking. This is even better! After my boys are done, Canek and the Guerreros can share a hospital room with Mando.

Everybody laughs.

Nelson: Hold on Gregory, one more thing. YOU will be in the match as well!

The fans go wild.

Gagne is stunned and shocked and collapses into Blackwell's arms. The Fortunate Ones are yelling at a smirking Larry Nelson.

Commercial Break

AWA Mid-American Champ Larry Zbyszko vs. Henry Conway

1484051026_larryz.jpg.191b83bb9ed53893bacae554b010d3fc.jpg

Zbyszko irritates the fans with a pre match nun chucks display. Larry gets the win with a swinging neckbreaker.

Nelson: Larry, Tatsumi Fujinami wrestled you to a draw in the tournament and then you knocked him out with your nun chucks. Come on, there was no need for that. However, Tatsumi will get a shot at your title at WrestleRock.

Zbyszko: You know Nelson, I can't tell you how good it felt to crack Tatsumi's spud head. At WrestleRock, I'm walking in the match with nothing but confidence and I'm walking out with this Mid American title. It's so simple, even an idiot like you can understand.

Commercial Break

Winner gets an AWA TV Title Shot next week

'The Wild One' Johnny Rich vs. Chicky Starr

1100330928_johnnyrich.jpg.23d5654bd7a4fcb9cb884c13deed1099.jpgchicky.jpg.818c022291bbab632db36ce76c879c70.jpg

Starr made it to the finals of the Memorial Day Tournament and looks to carry that momentum to a TV title shot. However, standing in his way is a fired up Johnny Rich.

These two go back and forth for a few minutes. Rich goes on a tear with hip tosses, dropkicks and slams. Chicky rakes the eyes and comes back with rake burns, chokes, stomps and knee drops. Chicky delivers a hanging vertical suplex and follows with a standing leg drop 1..2..Kick Out. Chicky swings Johnny to the corner and charges in but Rich lunges forward with a clothesline.

Rich fires up and goes to town on Chicky. Rich back drops Chicky and follows with a neck snap 1..2..Kick Out. Rich swings Chicky to the corner but Chicky stumbles into the Ref and the Ref goes down. Rich slams Chicky, then goes to the top rope and crashes down with a flying elbow drop, but the Ref is still down.

Boooooos as DREAM MACHINE slides under the ropes with a wooden chair. Rich gets up to check on the Ref as Dream shatters the chair across Rich's back. Dream picks up Rich and drops him with a piledriver. Dream quickly exits.

The Ref slowly rises as does Chicky. Chicky swings off the ropes and hits the corkscrew elbow drop 1..2..3! Chicky gets a TV title shot next week.

As Nelson closes the show, Dream Machine runs over.

Dream: Johnny Boy! You couldn't leave this be. You had to shoot your mouth off last week. You want this to continue? Fine by me babay!

Morrow & Britton start the show with some big announcements. First a press conference between champion and challenger I'm sure will go swimmingly then he unveils four big matches. Zbyszko/Fujinami should be a masterclass while Colon/Sawyer should be a bloodbath. Throw in the WrestleRock rumble and celebrity performances and we're looking at a massive show.

Warrior prepares for the biggest challenge of his AWA career.

Sawyer saying he's "just having fun" was such a heel line.

Things break down in a wild trios match.

Baby Doll has her men back in shape and with a chance to earn a title shot.

The Glamour Boys give The Harris Brothers a taste of their own medicine.

Atlas has a match with Duker while the rest of Gagne's Gang step into a cage with the tag titles on the line. Loved Greg's reaction.

Larry Z isn't dreading the Dragon.

Thanks to Dream Machine, Chicky is going for the TV title.

AWA TV @ The Hammond Center 6-9-88

ring.jpg.243e52cd28f6e2a12890087b7b23c08d.jpg

The camera pans across a room in the Marriot Hotel in Minneapolis. The room is full of reporters. There's a huge WrestleRock banner hanging behind a long table, with a podium at the middle. Seated at the table are AWA owner Verne Gagne, AWA C.O.O. Gerry Morrow, Brenda Britton, various members of the AWA committee and sponsors. On one side of the podium sits Nikita Koloff wearing a nice white suit. On the other sits the AWA World Champ Bad News Brown. Brown's wearing a cool suit, unbuttoned with a couple gold chains showing. The world title sits in front of him.

Gagne: As you all know, WrestleRock 88 will take place on Saturday July 15th from the Metrodome in Minneapolis Minnesota. This tremendous event will also be shown live on pay per view. The main event will be Bad News Brown defending his title against the Memorial Day Tournament winner and number one contender Nikita Koloff. Each man will now have a chance to comment. Let's start with Nikita.

Nikita stands up and shakes Verne's hand, then steps to the podium.

Nikita: A few months ago Nikita come to the AWA with one goal in mind, to win AWA world title. It's been a hard and tough road but Nikita now has his shot. I am in the best shape of my life and have been training non stop. At WrestleRock Nikita will accomplish his goal and become world champion.

Nikita sits down.

Gagne: Thank you very much Nikita, now we'll hear from the world champ Bad News Brown.

Brown sits there a few seconds before standing up. He brushes by Verne and goes right to the podium.

Brown: Nikita Koloff talks a big game and thinks he's just going to walk into WrestleRock and beat me for my title. Well Nikita, I have some bad news for you. Not going to happen! I've held this title for a year and have beaten them all! Steamboat, Lawler, Colon, Dick the Bruiser, the list goes on and on and on. Nikita Koloff, you're just the next guy I beat. It's as simple as that. You don't have what it takes. You might have some muscles but I know you're soft and weak.

Brown goes and grabs his title.

Brown: This here is my title and there's no way in hell a chump like Nikita is going to take it.

Nikita stands up and walks up to Brown. They're face to face as cameras flash.

Brown is yelling and pointing in Nikita's face. Nikita pushes Brown's hand away. Brown sets his title down and pushes Nikita. Nikita shoves Brown back. The next thing you know, fists are flying! They grab each other and fall through the table! Security, Verne and Morrow are trying to break them up as they roll around on the ground punching each other.

Commercial Break

Back at the Hammond Center

'Dynamite' DJ Peterson vs. Gale Burgess

dj.jpg.d21b85baa6a0067301952f842af11acd.jpg

DJ is wearing a face guard thanks to Kevin Kelly. DJ pinballs his opponent all over the ring before finishing him off with a flying shoulder block from the top rope.

Nelson: It's great to have you back DJ. I'm sure you have some words for your former world tag team champ partner Kevin Kelly and of course his manager the Vin Man.

DJ: Everyday I look in the mirror I have to think of those two punks and what they did to me. I know a lot of people thought I was crazy to think our partnership would work but I thought holding the world titles would outweigh our rocky history. I thought wrong and now Kelly and Vinnie will feel twice the pain I felt!

Commercial Break

'The Man of Steel' Tony Atlas w/Greg Gagne vs. 'Big Guy' Duke Myers

atlas.jpg.aeceb2b810ca79d7f91aa2a5858eded3.jpgduke.jpg.ef9f1a36711de0499d5d59e4181ae2bf.jpg

Pretty much a back and forth slugfest with both men getting in some hard shots. After a few minutes, trouble starts as Crusher Blackwell and The Fortunate Ones surround the ring. Duke is obviously distracted until the fans are up and cheering when El Canek and The Guerreros storm out! All hell breaks loose as Canek and the Guerreros brawl with Blackwell and the Fortunate Ones. Atlas and Myers end up on the outside as well. The Ref throws the match out. Gagne sprints out of there. After some serious fighting, Blackwell, Atlas and the Fortunate Ones retreat.

Nelson: My goodness... wait a sec, Canek, Meyers and the AWA world tag champs Hector and Chavo Guerrero are coming over. Go ahead guys.

Chavo: You know Larry Nelson, this should be a happy time for the Guerreros. We have the world titles and should be focused on defending these great titles but instead, we've been in a hospital room with our brother Mando. He's hanging in there but it will be a long road to recovery.

Hector: You can rest assured that at WrestleRock, inside that steel cage, we're going to rip Gagne's Gang apart and that includes you too Greg! Yea, these tag titles are on the line and we're more than okay with that because there's no chance we're losing them, not with Canek on our side. Blackwell, Fortunate Ones and especially you Greg, we're doing this for Mando and you all will pay and pay dearly!

Commercial Break

'Crippler' Rip Oliver vs. Joe Czack

oliver.jpg.d2e9250547ed055503dda41da84cb1e2.jpg

Oliver hits the piledriver and it's all over.

Nelson: Great win Rip Oliver. So, what's next on your AWA agenda?

Before Rip can answer, RAY STEVENS walks out.

Stevens: Well, hello "Crippler" been awhile. What? Did you think I was just going to ride into the sunset? That I was going to just forget about you? Oh no, we're not done, not by a long shot.

Oliver: Ray, if you want another match, fine by me.

Stevens: I must admit that I am at the tail end of an illustrious career, but I am glad to hear you're up for a match. You see, I'm going to try my hand at managing and after doing some worldwide scouting, I've found someone who's not only a crippler but a bone crushing wrestling machine. If you've got the guts, if you're a real crippler, then you'll agree to face my client at WrestleRock.

Nelson: Wait a minute, who is your client?

Stevens: Now why would I want to spoil the surprise for all these great fans. What do you say Oliver? Do you have the guts?

Oliver: I do and you of all people know I live up to my crippler name. I'll take on your man at WrestleRock and you better be prepared for another defeat.

Stevens: (laughs) Oh we'll see about that.

Commercial Break

The celebrities are coming out for WrestleRock. Irene Cara will sing the National Anthem. Randall 'Tex' Cobb will present the trophy to the WrestleRock Rumble winner. REO Speedwagon will perform a concert after the event. Be There!

AWA National Tag Team Champs Venomous vs. Badd Co. w/Baby Doll

boone.jpg.f9b34496579d0c9c8de00397d9ce60e1.jpgcobra.jpg.62d019d2a8dbb40b7f20875c706adb0e.jpgbadcom.jpg.1e8a72679daca614fa082c29e3a5481e.jpg

If Badd Co. wins they get a National tag title shot at WrestleRock. If Venomous wins, Badd Co. and Baby Doll will leave the AWA.

Not a dull moment as these teams go at it with some high octane offense. Both teams are evenly matched and the chemistry is unreal. Venomous excite the crowd with some high flying aerial moves, while Badd Co. comes back with double team stereo maneuvers. Even Baby Doll is on the edge. After a few minutes of see saw action, Venomous takes control. Then something strange happens. Two men in yellow suits and yellow masks come out and stand with their arms folded in the corner of Venomous. Cobra is on the apron and keeps looking down at them. Kat is in the ring with Tanaka but keeps looking over at the mysterious men. Kat tries to stay focused as he hoists Tanaka up for a suplex but Diamond takes advantage of the distractions and clips Kat's knees from behind. Tanaka falls on top as the Ref counts 1..2..3! Thanks to this bizarre distraction, Cobra is a second too late.

The mysterious men simply walk to the back.

Baby Doll is jumping up and down. Badd Co. slide out of the ring and the 3 hug. They're heading to WrestleRock!

Commercial Break

Nelson: I can't believe it but I think those two men we just saw are the Killer Bees. I have no idea what they're motives or intentions are but I think they're presence just costed Venomous the match. Not sure what to make of that. Well, Badd Co. will now get a National tag title shot at WrestleRock. Switching gears, this weekend the AWA will be at the Treasure Island Casino in Red Wing Minnesota. You'll see such matches as Austin Idol vs. Lanny Poffo. The Glamour Boys vs. The Harris Brothers. Nick Busick vs. Kokina, Scott Putski vs. Cannonball Griz and plenty more. Let's get back to the ring, this should be a wild one.

The Gunslingers vs. The Unhinged Outlaws

casey.jpg.44b02c97f7262e542080d415c447723a.jpgmantell.jpg.850b196b9fe48ecf85d7a0f9efae3239.jpgdeaton.jpg.e73727f89e7e88f9054e0cb9c0e18993.jpgbarr2.jpg.06fbb53920250ae766756a410c7f09f0.jpg

This one never officially starts because the Ref never gets control. Both teams bring bull ropes to the ring and neither team is afraid to use them. It's chaos as both teams swing away at each other. After a quick exchange, the Outlaws slide out of the ring and grab a mic.

Barr: Hey Gunslingers! You boys like to fight do you? Well, so do we! Why don't we find out who the real cowboys are here. How about we go at it in a bunkhouse match at WrestleRock. Unless you two city slickers are afraid to get your hands dirty.

Casey grabs the ring announcer's mic.

Casey: You want a fight? Boys, you got one!

Commercial Break

Brian Adias (C) vs. Chicky Starr

Adias controls the opening moments with hip tosses, arm drags and dropkicks. The tide turns when Adias goes for a back drop but Chicky kicks him. Chicky controls the next few minutes with eye rakes, closed fists, slams and knee drops. Chicky goes for an elbow drop but Adias moves. Adias fires up and scores several near falls but can't put Chicky away. Chicky gets back into it with some old fashion rule breaking. The fans pump Adias up and these two start trading blows as the bell rings. The 10 minutes have expired. Both men pause and then start exchanging more punches.

Commercial Break

Carlos Colon vs. Trent Watkins

colon2.jpg.0b1809729f06a5a88182ec6ebdf57b33.jpg

Colon wins the match with a flying clothesline from the top rope.

Colon celebrates but BUZZ SAWYER hits the ring with a chain. Colon turns around as Sawyer goes for a clothesline but Colon ducks. Sawyer turns around as Colon kicks him low! Colon yanks the chain away and starts choking Sawyer with it! Colon wrenches away as Sawyer spits up. Prelim wrestlers hit the ring as Colon chokes Sawyer like a mad man.

trophy.jpg.c310b5f7b8effb9d76fc1da5fea8b205.jpg

Morrow: HAHAHAHA de WrestleRock Rumble Match will be very unique indeed. It will be a taped fist Battle Royal where pins, submissions and over the top rope eliminations will all count. Now, as you all are aware of, there is a lot of bad blood in de AWA. Well, I hope dis match will take care of a lot of it. I'm going to throw them all in there and let them fight. De winner will be presented dis grand trophy by legendary tough guy Randall 'Tex' Cobb. De winner will also receive an AWA world title shot at their convenience. De participants will be,

Nick Busick

Kokina

Johnny Rich

Dream Machine

Scott Putski

Cannonball Griz

Tony Atlas

Duke Myers

The Glamour Boys

The Harris Brothers

Kevin Kelly

DJ Peterson

REO Speedwagon will perform a special concert after the wrestling event.

An expectedly tense press conference.

Peterson is back and on the hunt for payback.

Atlas/Myer's first meeting descends into chaos.

Stevens has a new client to send after the man who took his place as Crippler.

The Killer Bees are here and seem to have a interest in Venomous.

WrestleRock just got bigger with the Gunslingers meeting the Unhinged Outlaws in a Bunkhouse match.

10 minutes isn't enough for Chicky & Adidas.

Sawyer tries to jump Colon again and pays for it.

Morrow's really turned the WrestleRock Rumble into a pressure cooker.
